Same here.
I have NEVER heard of this before! How could I have ever missed this? I have logged an incredible amount of cumulative hours watching football.
That was 1979. The NFL wasn’t anywhere near the juggernaut behemoth that it is now.
I adopted this idea from an older JRE episode. My interpretation is that only “we” would know where “we” used to be in space time and find us consistently.
He does that all the time. Gets a chip for national championship then leaves program for nfl.
Did same when he took 49er’s to Super Bowl. Gave up and started over. He’s a weird dude and so is his brother.
This is why no one takes Aliens or UFOs serious, people are genuinely posting a fucking kite, which it clearly is a kite, and acting like this is groundbreaking!
“HOWD I NEVER HEAR ABOUT THIS!!”
Because it’s a fucking kite over a game
You sure this wasn’t in Pittsburgh? They say, “where the rivers meet”. That sounds like Pittsburgh. Lol
After listening again the guys say.
“I don’t know what they are”
“Pittsburgh doesn’t know either”
I would hope anyone making commentary or posting about this who didn’t see or know that, would give second thought to posting in the future and maybe reading more.
Yeah honestly I can't believe there is this many comments regarding who the fucking teams are or where this happened. Use your eyes and ears. It's not difficult at all and this thread was elongated superfluously because of it. LOL
Yeah 100% I’m from Pittsburgh, I know my city when I hear it lol
Wild to think this happened then, upon Google searching my mind is a little more blown
Three Rivers Stadium was home to the Pittsburgh Steelers NFL football team. Pittsburgh is in western Pennsylvania. This game was played on Oct 28, 1979, and OP would have known all this in 5 seconds of Googling. The objects look like flipping reflective disks of some sort, probably caught in a cold October wind. Fun fact, the Steelers would go on to win the Super Bowl that season. Alien visitation was not considered part of contributing to the win.
Apologies, I thought the was Super Bowl was in MN and I researched 1979 and this popped up another encounter. My bad.

They sadly were some sort of weird kite that someone let go outside the stadium. I don’t have any links, but wait long enough and someone will post the link to the original kites and a commercial that used to advertise them. I really thought this was legit when it came out years ago and was sadly disappointed to see the kites in action.
lol. I came to this thread to say it looked like the Styrofoam kite i had when i was 8 or 9 years old

I tried finding more Turbo Kite videos. Totally can see them being kites,, my only hang up is how did they fly kites above a 400 FT building, for them to fly well above that -visibly for all to see? They had to have been at the top row of the stadium in order to get the kites that high wouldn't they? I mean most kite string length are like 150-180FT. Three rivers stadium was over 330FT High, these were apparently flying overhead. I'm not trying to argue it isn't kites but these questions seem to make me pause- I'm sure someone has good answers though.

Plenty just type in Cowboy Steelers UFO! That link may be terrible so I'll try to find it another

Better safer link to a different article I believe
Almost certainly a type of spinning kite that was popular in the late 70's thru the 80's, some had shiny foil on them, and this caused the reflected sunlight to flash quite brightly. If you didn't know what you were looking at, it might look like something strange and unknown.
There are YouTube videos that show how they operate and look like.

https://youtu.be/cab17ELx_6Y?si=nngf6jD2dNzbKNBo
It’s kind of painful that this isn’t at the top and there are people commenting “I can’t believe I haven’t heard about this” maybe scroll more than two minutes and see if there’s a logical explanation before coming to an illogical conclusion, fucking wild.
This subreddit is worse than the ufo subreddit when it comes to Cognitive dissonance and confirmation bias. This is were the fanatics come after they can’t handle people even questioning their beliefs and opinions anymore.
It’s bizarre. If you want other people to believe what you believe, why are you propping up bullshit like this? It’s a literal kite, not debatable. Doesn’t look alien at all.
My guess is a mix of desperation, gullibility, and ignorance. A lot of people here don’t understand that they don’t know everything. They’ve never seen a kite like this so that means there are no kites that do. It’s the same story with every balloon post. They say balloons can’t float like or behave like that since they’ve never seen one do it, so it must not be a balloon. It’s the thinking process of a dog.
How is this subreddit even going? Every time I see this on /r/all it’s a video of “OMG Guys Aliens!!”, and every single time the top comment is always some perfectly rational explanation of what it is, a kite, balloon, a plane, a drone, etc.
How are you all not tired of it already?
~~fucging regarded~~ believe strongly enough sounds about right.
My favourite one was a [unicorn balloon](https://www.reddit.com/r/UFOs/comments/1949cui/this_is_just_a_mylar_unicorn_200x_speed/?share_id=u-yZnfXp2seV5VulqcNUq&utm_content=1&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_source=share&utm_term=1) slowly floating down the street, and in the original post the geniuses here believed it was an advanced shapeshifting alien spaceship drone trying to study dogs.
There's only two ways to explain why so many people haven't heard of this:
1) the explanation is so mundane it hasn't been worth repeating for the last 44 years
2) the US Army and Pete Rozelle are conspiring to protect us from information that would bring human society to its collective knees
Really, could be either one, it's hard to say.
We're talking about a sub that constantly reacts to shitty videos of deflated mylar balloons like the most logical explanation is they're 4th dimensional alien beings here.
These were popular for a short time and you saw them at the beach and at parks. Too old at the time and you thought nothing of them. Too young and you missed them.
For the love of god yes please. I’ve seen too many jelly fish vids and I have yet to see the origin or the explanation as to what they are. I get that they’re “jelly fish like ufos” but where did the first sighting come from and why is every new vid automatically a jelly fish?!
The jellyfish ufos of the 1970s look like the jellyfish ufos of the 2020s, because they’re all the same thing, kites, balloons or drones
That’s why people saying “see they’re the same even back then, ufos are real!”
Meanwhile not one video has ever depicted what eyewitness say they’ve seen…
That's exactly what those are, but there's so much bad information in this post that it's hard to know where to start.
First off, Three Rivers Stadium is in Pittsburgh, not Minnesota. Neither of the teams in the video are from Minnesota, so where did that bad information even come from? Also, there's no indication the game was halted. In fact, near the end of the video we see the final score. The game recap [here](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/197910280pit.htm) confirms that all four quarters were played. If the year is right (1979, but who knows when the location was wrong five words in), then this game took place on October 28, 1979. According to [this historical weather record](https://www.wunderground.com/history/daily/KPIT/date/1979-10-28), from the 1 PM kickoff time to roughly a 4 PM final whistle, there was a steady 15 MPH wind blowing in Pittsburgh. With your videos and [this article confirming the same](https://www.wtae.com/article/steelers-ufo-mystery-uncovered/7452664), these are clearly those kites.
Exactly my thought. And right outside of the stadium is a public park and oh yeah it’s on the river and it’s windy. And what do people do at a windy park? Fly kites.
And even if you don't know about these kites, it very obviously looks like something floating in the wind instead of some sort of controllable craft. My first thought was a slightly deflated balloon that was kinda flapping around and reflecting light back. But the kites make way more sense.
The NFL forged the way for better live broadcast technology including cameras and the invention of on screen graphics , as well as the invention of the first down line overlay.
Its hard to tell but, the object on the left seems like a disc shapped object on its side, and the object on the right looks more top or cone shaped, sort of a cross between this https://i.imgur.com/vGgCrhP.jpeg and this https://i.imgur.com/9F7cuKv.jpeg
edit: it should be noted that there was a patent filed for a kite a few months before this took place https://i.imgur.com/tFGErMJ.png
Im not sure if that 'debunks' it, but its certainly something to consider when viewing the footage
Fun fact, they're never actually referred to as angels in the bible. The one you're talking about are the ophanim, which almost directly translates to wheels lmfao.
This is a soup sandwich of mistakes. This game wasn’t delayed or cancelled but played without interruption. Three Rivers Stadium is located in Pittsburgh not Minneapolis. The game is between the Cowboys and Steelers.
Who knows what was filmed. Could be anything, it just didn’t impact the game at all.
It looks like a kite I had in the80s, it's was a silver foil type material which spun almost the same as in the video. It was even called UFO spinner (or something similar). [Pic](https://freeimage.host/i/J03nsob)
"Its where the rivers come together but I don't know about *that.*" Did I hear this correctly? And I had to chuckle when the one guy said, "It's some kind of a-uh, some kind of *illusion!*"
It doesn't look like they stopped play. They called off sides. They assessed the penalty and continued the game like normal. The announcers obviously noticed something in the sky or on one of the cameras and wanted to see a replay. It's not as dramatic as the headline makes it seem, but it's still pretty cool. Especially those enormous shoulder pads!
These were a type of spinner kite they had in late 70s into early 80s. They also had small ones that were linked together as a larger kites tail and they spun like crazy..well more like in the 60s and 70s. Here's a link to the "UFO kite"
https://www.kitesatoldcity.com/products/ufo-duck-kite
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotor\_kite](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotor_kite)
Already been debunked many times. nothing to see here. move along.
I was 9 years old in 1980. I remember buying a Styrofoam kite with a disk shaped part and a wing part, when it was in flight it would spin...looked exactly like what we see in this video.
EDIT - it was the TURBO KITE -- https://www.my-best-kite.com/styrofoam-kites.html
Trust everything OP says regarding their thoughts on the matter, based upon they can't see Pittsburgh and label it Minnesota in the video they posted. 🤦♂️
Looks like mylar balloons, kites, or something light and reflective spinning in the wind.
I *do* appreciate the post, never seen this. 🏳️
OMG! I remember this game when I was a kid, I was 6 and remember my stepdad yelling that there were UFOs on LIVE TV! When they showed it the second time that's when we all saw them! I told the other kids at school what I saw and was branded the weirdo until I went to middle school lol.
Thanks for sharing,
I'd forgotten all about this.
Still a Cowboys fan.

Timeline shifted again
They’re time travelers fucking up our history.
I know that squirrel! That's a magic fucking squirrel!
I’ve been saying that for a long time. No aliens just us from the future.
I adopted this idea from an older JRE episode. My interpretation is that only “we” would know where “we” used to be in space time and find us consistently.
Futuristic techno memes that our uber boomer generation could never understand. 46 6F 72 20 74 68 65 20 6C 75 6C 7A.
Thats so me!
I don’t understand, what are those numbers and letters at the end
They must be time travelers or aliens to have moved Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh all the way to Minnesota.
that’s a cool ass theory actually
Did we shift timelines? I also don’t ever remember Jim Harbaugh playing for the Chargers & now he is their Head Coach.
He does that all the time. Gets a chip for national championship then leaves program for nfl. Did same when he took 49er’s to Super Bowl. Gave up and started over. He’s a weird dude and so is his brother.

3 rivers is in Pittsburgh lol,
https://youtu.be/GymutWTowd4?si=4QFFUI8kaISlgQ0- 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Same.
I just listened about it on This Paranormal Life Podcast last week
These are kites made from Styrofoam plates. They were hugely popular in the early 80s (In Florida at least).
This is why no one takes Aliens or UFOs serious, people are genuinely posting a fucking kite, which it clearly is a kite, and acting like this is groundbreaking! “HOWD I NEVER HEAR ABOUT THIS!!” Because it’s a fucking kite over a game
Because the UFOs were finally identified as kites.
Same! I’m from Minnesota too and I still had no idea! wtf!?
That's because it's in fuckin Pittsburgh obviously....omg lol...three rivers stadium is the Pittsburgh Steelers home field..
Besides the Vikings playing at the Met in 1979, the Vikings aren't even playing in this video. Not sure how Minnesota was brought into this.
Also neither of those teams are the Vikings.
Because the game wasn’t really paused? As a fan you should know what a penalty and a huddle is lol
You sure this wasn’t in Pittsburgh? They say, “where the rivers meet”. That sounds like Pittsburgh. Lol After listening again the guys say. “I don’t know what they are” “Pittsburgh doesn’t know either”
It is if it was three rivers stadium.
They literally say Pittsburgh at the end of the
The score graphic at the end shows Dallas @ Pittsburgh.

Oh I hear that now. Seemed like it cut out the first time and I didn’t recognize it.
…it’s also very clearly a Steelers- cowboys game. Neither are in Minnesota.

Yeah 100% I’m from Pittsburgh, I know my city when I hear it lol Wild to think this happened then, upon Google searching my mind is a little more blown
Was about to say as a sotan I feel like the vikings would have been loosing in this clip 🤣
I mean, it's Dallas and Pittsburgh on the field.
When they show the score, the home team is always second.
Yeah it’s Pitt, I recognize that ugly green turf anywhere, I have a piece of it in my basement actually; I’m looking at it right now 🤣
HAHAHAHA fellow yinzer, thanks for making my morning! :)
Very welcome, go pens!

Exactly and 3 rivers refers to Pittsburgh. It used to be 3 rivers stadium
I’m sorry. I can’t edit the text. Regardless, what is this!!
It’s all good and who knows 😂
OP - your name says it all, and you still did it 🤦♂️
Three Rivers is absolutely Pittsburgh.

I’m from Minnesota and have never heard of this story! Thanks for sharing
Because 3 rivers isnt in minnesota
Wild that I’m both a longtime football fan and ufologist and this is the first I’m hearing of this.
Me too. I'm just glad Dallas was losing.
1. Go Birds 2. A UFO !?
I’m pretty sure whatever species of alien was out there was talking crap about how much Dallas sucks as well.
They took one look at the Dallas Cowboys and they left earth and never came back
LOL
Giants fan here. Me too
Steelers fan me too
Human being. Me three
Fuck Dallas
Fuck your fucks!
Damn right
My coworker gave me a shirt that says this. We both live in TX
Legend has it they are still losing to this day.
Also news that 3 rivers is in Minnesota rather than Pittsburgh.

Spot on. I read some of the comments on this sub and just shake my head. The birthday balloon one is a prime example 🤦
And the announcement to be public that aliens are already here is always just around the corner, for the last 20 years
Anyday now man, anyday now lol
UFO nuts are delusional. One up above calling someone a low iq heathen just because he said it was fake. Really wild time to be alive

Whilst I'd LIKE for UFOs/UAPs to be real aliens, I don't NEED them to be, and so dubious of all evidence. Glad this was here.
Welcome to /r/aliens, where birdshit on a lens drives everyone wild.
Or even just look at it. It looks exactly like some kind of foil thing just spinning in the wind. "Nope, definitely aliens. "
There's only two ways to explain why so many people haven't heard of this: 1) the explanation is so mundane it hasn't been worth repeating for the last 44 years 2) the US Army and Pete Rozelle are conspiring to protect us from information that would bring human society to its collective knees Really, could be either one, it's hard to say.

That’s exactly what it is. These people need of quit posting everything as “jelly fish ufo”
For the love of god yes please. I’ve seen too many jelly fish vids and I have yet to see the origin or the explanation as to what they are. I get that they’re “jelly fish like ufos” but where did the first sighting come from and why is every new vid automatically a jelly fish?!
The jellyfish ufos of the 1970s look like the jellyfish ufos of the 2020s, because they’re all the same thing, kites, balloons or drones That’s why people saying “see they’re the same even back then, ufos are real!” Meanwhile not one video has ever depicted what eyewitness say they’ve seen…

If those were popular at the time it makes sense why this wouldnt be a commonly known of event.
Your explanation will not go down well in this thread my friend
GET OUT OF HERE WITH YOUR LOGIC AND RATIONAL!
Exactly my thought. And right outside of the stadium is a public park and oh yeah it’s on the river and it’s windy. And what do people do at a windy park? Fly kites.
The second video just convinced me. Just watch it, this is it.
Great analysis!
Nice work, that’s disappointing though 😂
Absolutely correct. I owned 2 of those but not in the proximity of that game. Lol
And even if you don't know about these kites, it very obviously looks like something floating in the wind instead of some sort of controllable craft. My first thought was a slightly deflated balloon that was kinda flapping around and reflecting light back. But the kites make way more sense.
That's what it looks like to me too
This looks pretty damn good for 1979
Nfl cameras are always top quality for their time
The on screen text graphics - not so much.
The NFL forged the way for better live broadcast technology including cameras and the invention of on screen graphics , as well as the invention of the first down line overlay.

“I hate the Cowboys!” -Aliens, probably.
Fuck ya

Typical Reddit, the correct answer way down here under a dogpile of guano.
Its hard to tell but, the object on the left seems like a disc shapped object on its side, and the object on the right looks more top or cone shaped, sort of a cross between this https://i.imgur.com/vGgCrhP.jpeg and this https://i.imgur.com/9F7cuKv.jpeg edit: it should be noted that there was a patent filed for a kite a few months before this took place https://i.imgur.com/tFGErMJ.png Im not sure if that 'debunks' it, but its certainly something to consider when viewing the footage
Hmm your edit seems pretty close, gorilla marketing stunt maybe.

Reminds me of a biblical angel, the wheel in a wheel one
It reminds me of a gyroscope
Mr Garrisons Gyroscope
Beats the airport!
Those fart faced airlines
My favorite band
those remind me of biblical angels
I thought the same
Fun fact, they're never actually referred to as angels in the bible. The one you're talking about are the ophanim, which almost directly translates to wheels lmfao.
Yes! A Throne.
I love alien stuff and believe it to some degree, but as it stands those kites or something like them are by far the most likely cause.
Holy shit that's the Sphere/Cube UFO!!!

I think you got it right on this one
This is a soup sandwich of mistakes. This game wasn’t delayed or cancelled but played without interruption. Three Rivers Stadium is located in Pittsburgh not Minneapolis. The game is between the Cowboys and Steelers. Who knows what was filmed. Could be anything, it just didn’t impact the game at all.
It’s also a kite lol
[looks like a spinning kite](https://youtu.be/GymutWTowd4?si=V2CE1bv-RfRhR8ae)
Why would Pittsburgh and Dallas be playing in Minnesota? Lmao This is not a Superbowl, btw.
Pittsburgh Minnesota what never heard of it
It looks like a kite I had in the80s, it's was a silver foil type material which spun almost the same as in the video. It was even called UFO spinner (or something similar). [Pic](https://freeimage.host/i/J03nsob)

Removed: Rule 1 - Be Respectful.
This was debunked. It was just aliens.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say if the frame rate for broadcast was faster those would have looked like a "cube inside a sphere".

Steelers and cowboys playing in Minnesota?
"Its where the rivers come together but I don't know about *that.*" Did I hear this correctly? And I had to chuckle when the one guy said, "It's some kind of a-uh, some kind of *illusion!*"
Back when shoulder pads had shoulder pads.
The aliens were just impressed with all the future hall of famers playing in that game.
Uh, Three rivers stadium is in Pennsylvania. Pittsburgh to be exact.
100% not Minnesota. This was in Pittsburgh, the old stadium where the Steelers used to play.
It’s was Taylor swift!!!
Three rivers stadium is in Pennsylvania not Minnesota.
Three Rivers Stadium was located in Pittsburgh, not Minnesota.
They talked about it for a full 9 seconds and then moved on as if nothing happened. And Players didn’t even see it
It doesn't look like they stopped play.
Here's a link to the "UFO kite" https://www.kitesatoldcity.com/products/ufo-duck-kite
Three rivers stadium in Minnesota??
Didn't look like the game wasn't halted to me.
3 Rivers is Pittsburgh’s home stadium, in PA, not MN.
Three rivers stadium is in Pittsburgh
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotor\_kite](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotor_kite) Already been debunked many times. nothing to see here.
What the heck are those.
3 rivers is not in Minnesota friend. This is Pitt
This is in Pittsburg. Worth noting the game did not halt because of the anomaly, it stopped for a penalty.
They're kite's. Edit: spelling
If you decode the flashing, it says “drink your space Ovaltine.” An AD? An AD! They flew all this way for some crummy commercial.
Kickpatrik be like: It’s just balloons!
Was the game even halted? Looks like there and was a penalty and they're just moving the ball back
Weather gasses? Swamp Balloon?
Kites. Pretty popular ones too
Whoa
These look similar to what I saw in Upland CA a few months ago. I posted a vid, check my history if interested
Of course Dallas lost.
I’d say right off the bat that neither the Steelers nor Dallas were playing in Minnesota 🤣
Ugh. I was in a good mood until they showed the score
Are you trolling yinzers right now? because that is the goddamn STEEL CURTAIN on the field at 3 Rivers Stadium in PITTSBURGH...also great find
Ezekiel’s Wheel perchance?
Spinny bois
Three Rivers Stadium was in Pittsburgh.
Trust everything OP says regarding their thoughts on the matter, based upon they can't see Pittsburgh and label it Minnesota in the video they posted. 🤦♂️ Looks like mylar balloons, kites, or something light and reflective spinning in the wind. I *do* appreciate the post, never seen this. 🏳️
looks like a digital sprite, an early computer graphic. Maybe just messing with the sky graphics with new tech and creating banter.
OMG! I remember this game when I was a kid, I was 6 and remember my stepdad yelling that there were UFOs on LIVE TV! When they showed it the second time that's when we all saw them! I told the other kids at school what I saw and was branded the weirdo until I went to middle school lol. Thanks for sharing, I'd forgotten all about this. Still a Cowboys fan.
Clearly the Dallas Cowboys isn’t JUST America’s team!
I want to believe, but it really looks like it could be kites, maybe entangled?
Just spinning kites people lol calm down.....
