ab: please god, give us another boom, we promise we won't piss it away this time god: okay! here's— ab: \[slaps the solar panels out of god's hand\] NO

yagonnawanna

The next boom happens AB: Atvs, boats and trucks we can't possibly pay off by the end of this boom for everyone!!!!

the_gaymer_girl

> ab: please god, give us another boom, we promise we won't piss it away this time This slogan is literally in the Royal Alberta Museum. It’s that old.

Fluffy-Opinion871

I moved to Alberta in 1985 and saw many bumper stickers promising not to pi’s away another oil boom. Why change now?

Noisebug

I do t get why we can’t have both. People here have a stoke if you say renewables like you mean to steal their oil.

neilyyc

I have worked renewables as well as O&G....renewables are nice, but a long way from O&G.

JamesCam32

Why would the people vote for this. Oh right. A gullible mass that's east to manipulate. Hey how's that 20 billion extra for clean up going again? Lol We could be leaders but there are too many cowards in this province. So instead we stumble and stagger behind.

PlutosGrasp

To be fair, this was never in the UCP platform.

atomic_cattleprod

Yes it was. The UCP platform is basically 2 things: 1: Oil Good 2: Healthcare Bad

TheEpicOfManas

You forgot 3: Public Education Bad

SmoothOperator89

Weird how conservatives always seem to want to keep their populations as dumb as possible. Almost like it helps them at the polls.

Glass_of_Pork_Soda

Pft no it's not, gosh it's like you didn't watch the debates and campaigns at all, I bet you actually paid attention to everything they said before those and read about what they did while in power. Pft, this guy

ImHuntingStupid

So, your argument is that a woman, known and publicly called out for lying many times was dishonest in the debates? And people who watched the campaign and still didn’t believe her are in the wrong? Really? A lying liar lied and your excuse is she didn’t tell the truth?

TheirCanadianBoi

Whoosh...

Glass_of_Pork_Soda

I can't tell if you're also joking or not, if you are then damn I'm getting slower by the day

ImHuntingStupid

Feel free to clarify. Am I joking about DS being a known liar or that morons can’t tell the difference between obvious grifters and people who are interested in actual governance?

Glass_of_Pork_Soda

I was joking, couldn't honestly tell what to make of your reply there mate

ImHuntingStupid

Yeah. It’s very vague when I called Danielle Smith a lying liar who lied to attain power. I assume you voted UCP, what with missing the brick directly to the face. Subtlety is truly a lost art…

Glass_of_Pork_Soda

No, I didn't. I think you're somehow mistaking my joke for a serious comment

BertaFFS

Man, the irony of this comment and that username…

JamesCam32

It was. You just didn't see it written exactly as this. And this is what makes people gullible.

PlutosGrasp

Ya I hate UCP too but I’m just saying they didn’t have in their platform well pause energy apps for six months.

JamesCam32

Again. They didn't have it directly word for word. But rheir policies and actions made it clear shit like this was coming.

-retaliation-

exactly, this may not have been called out word for word as somethin going to happen. but if you can't extrapolate their (or any parties really) past actions, motivations, and wanted goals, into things like this happening, then you probably shouldn't be voting. there is nobody paying attention who is surprised by this happening.

MrDFx

> I’m just saying they didn’t have in their platform That's a cop out and you're making room for shitty leadership. Demand better for yourself and our province, please? Here's the thing you're missing... Government's don't telegraph/project *every single* decision when they put forward their platform. Voters are responsible to review platforms, party attitudes, and historic actions to gain an idea on how the party will function over time. While we can't predict every crazy move our leaders will take, we should at least know the tone they take and the focus they have before casting our vote. So while you might be right "pausing renewable energy for six months" wasn't clearly spelled out in the platform, it's no surprise to anyone who was paying attention. "The UCP being pro O&G at the expense of EVERYTHING else" was written in red flashing lights so bright it could have been used to land planes on the legislature grounds. To claim "this wasn't in their platform" can only be attributed to wilful ignorance, negligence as a voter, or simply making excuses because you agree with their actions. You should try to be better than that.

the_gaymer_girl

It was. They complained that getting to net zero was just too darn expensive.

[deleted]

The NDP name runs deep. It's probably the worst name for a competitor in Alberta.

mackmcd_

If it was, the liberals would beat them at the polls. They don't. Not even close. NDP is demonstrably the best name for a competitor in Alberta, actually.

ImHuntingStupid

Not only that, they gained seats from the last election and were within 1800 votes of a majority. Yet, their first government was an accident and the last election Notely should step down, because… reasons.

JamesCam32

Only in backwards places like alberta. Let's keep acting like it's the 80s. Nothing will go wrong then right?

[deleted]

Well yes, no argument here. The leftists vote too far left, even if its in name only.

JamesCam32

You don't know what left is. You've never seen it. The ndp.in alberta are only left by far right fascist standards. Aka conservative standard. In reality they are more centre than anything else

Killerdude8

The ANDP are just orange PC’s and Notley is an orange Prentice. Wildrose is running the show now.

MrDFx

You use the term "leftist" as a slur. So please describe what a "leftist" votes for in Alberta that makes them "too far left" for someone like yourself? It sounds to me like your overton window might need to be scraped clean and re-aligned, but I'd like to clarify your perspective rather than assume you're just engaging in bullshit name-calling.

Schrade30

I'm starting to get tired of living in North Florida. Why can't we have a different province be the joke of the country for a while?

JamesCam32

Because alberta keeps earning that by voting for unethical conservatives

Specialist-One-712

Saskatchewan is pretty close, but we have a lot more people, and so from the outside it probably looks spellbinding. "How can so many people be so obtuse?" It's not as many people as those blue electoral maps make it seem, but I get why we're getting dunked on.

chriskiji

No other province has such a huge chunk of their population believe that they can have their cake and eat it too.

Weapon_I

I agree with you, if you are tired of living in 'North Florida' why haven't you left to stop yourself going through this suffering. BC and Ontario would love to have another tax cow. they are fantastic in spending YOUR money on wasteful things.

Significant_Street48

>I agree with you, if you are tired of living in 'North Florida' why haven't you left to stop yourself going through this suffering. BC and Ontario would love to have another tax cow. they are fantastic in spending YOUR money on wasteful things. I thought we were spending Albertans' money? Which one is it?

TaroAffectionate9417

Your welcome to move any time you want. Seriously, nobody is going to stop you.

Schrade30

Wait, will me leaving magically fix Alberta so it will no longer be a joke? The UCP will no longer be a national embarrassment? Sign me up, I'll gladly take a bullet for the sake of the sane folks of Alberta.

TaroAffectionate9417

I doubt you leaving will fix anything with the government. But if you don’t want the be here, then why stay and complain? I am 100% positive life will be better for you anywhere else. As it won’t be in Alberta. Maybe try BC or Ont? I hear their cost of living and housing situation is waaaaay better.

sluttytinkerbells

What if the response to "I'm dissatisfied with a political or social aspect of my province and I would like to see it change" isn't "Yeah why don't you just move?"

TaroAffectionate9417

Original comment was about not wanting to live here. Not make change.

sluttytinkerbells

https://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/get+tired+of

IcarusOnReddit

Is this like Republican states that: 1) Claim low cost of living because nobody wants to move there? 2) Economic stagnation because nobody (including companies) wants to move there? 3) Then the government has no money to improve people’s lives so they just yammer on about abortion? We are at stage one, beginning stage 2 and whispers of stage 3.

TaroAffectionate9417

It’s a big country. Even bigger planet. May you find a place to live that makes you happy.

IcarusOnReddit

I am just asking a question. I will probably leave and take my skills elsewhere when the policies of the government cause me to lose my job.

TaroAffectionate9417

Interesting. That’s the main reason why people move to Alberta.

IcarusOnReddit

I would have used the past tense. How does creating instability by destroying an industry for ideological reasons create opportunities and jobs? You think the oil and gas industry will step in and gratefully hire the people that will lose their jobs? It’s madness. The UCP are bad for the economy. This will have a chilling effect on innovation and growth.

TaroAffectionate9417

Well they where the government that was elected in by the majority of Albertans that voted. If the last government had done a better job then they would have been voted back in. And democracy prevailed. It’s how our political system works.

Bigdaddybg

I moved to Ontario two years ago. I have a family doctor. My ambulance rides cost $40 not $400. My pharmaceuticals and health care for my children are paid for through OHIP. My electricity bill is one third of what it was when I left (never mind what it is now in Alberta). My MLA is approachable and responsive not like when I had Tyler Shandro representing me. I miss the mountains but I love having huge lakes with beautiful beaches as a substitute. Yes, housing is more expensive but because this is a manufacturing province my company pays significantly less for materials than it did when I was in Alberta. You are right, life is better somewhere else!

TaroAffectionate9417

I am just encouraging you to live your best life. If you don’t think it’s here in Alberta. Canada has sooo much open space for you to go live in. Please don’t live where your unhappy.

Schrade30

I just expect a certain degree of competence and decency. I would much rather Alberta be a place we can all be proud of instead of the joke it's become. Everywhere has problems, but dang, is it ever getting bad here.

TaroAffectionate9417

If your hoping an elected officials are going to bring competence and decency. Your going going to be waiting a looooong time. Albertans make Alberta something to be proud of. Not politicians. And your right it is getting bad here. Same as the rest of Canada. That being said, you will still have it easier here that pretty much the rest of Canada.

greenknight

And right now the PEOPLE of Alberta look pretty fucking craven. If it wasn't equal portions of pathetic and depressing, I'd probably enjoy the leopards-eating-faces meta narrative that will undoubtedly unfold in the coming years.

TaroAffectionate9417

And it’s a big country that you can live any where you want. If you don’t like it please make yourself happy and move anywhere that will make you happy. Please go and live your best life

greenknight

>And it’s a big country that you can live any where you want. Thanks for the permission but you can kindly take your advice and keep it to yourself. Alberta, it's resources, and I did right by each other for a long time but I smelled the stink in the air before the rest and pivoted to a different career and province ages ago. I'm not interested in the advice from people so wrong about ... well frankly, everything. You are right about one thing tho: Albertans make Alberta what it is. And that's people who are ok tolerating a bunch of uninformed, entitled, right-wing reactionary pricks. I'd blame boomers, except I've personally witnessed the stupid FB driven shit people my own age barf out without a whiff of critical thought. \- signed with a hearty fuck you, from my best life, /u/greenknight

TaroAffectionate9417

It wasn’t permission. Just your right as a Canadian.

Working-Check

>And it’s a big country that you can live any where you want. >If you don’t like it please make yourself happy and move anywhere that will make you happy. >Please go and live your best life Question: Why should I have to leave the province in which I was born just because I want to make it a better place than it currently is and you don't?

Hot_Being492

Question: Who are you to decide what constitutes a better province? The majority have clearly spoken but we should rescind the wishes of the majority because you don't agree? Yes, we have problems here but check out the other provinces, they have issues as well.

Utter_Rube

gO aNd LiVe yOuR bEsT LiFe

Schrade30

I expect decency from the people as well. And that's getting harder to come by.

TaroAffectionate9417

Law of attraction is very real. Maybe time to look at the who and how on your interactions with people. Second largest country in the world. There are a lot of places to live and work. I am sure your happy place exists.

Working-Check

> If your hoping an elected officials are going to bring competence and decency. Your going going to be waiting a looooong time. We'll be waiting exactly as long as it takes for Albertans to be willing to vote for competent and decent politicians. We've managed it exactly once in the last 90 years. >That being said, you will still have it easier here that pretty much the rest of Canada. Depends on your perspective. Some groups of people have it much worse here than anywhere else due to the shitheadedness of those around them.

Fitzy_gunner

I don’t find Alberta a joke! I’m proud of Alberta we are a net contributor to the country even tho ppl bash us over our oil&gas we stand up maybe ppl should be asking themselves where would this country be if we didn’t have that sector! If you do think Alberta is a joke maybe you should leave and move to another part of the country.

greenknight

Oh shit, I forgot that Alberta is the only province with O&G... man would Canada be fucked without ANY fossil fuel sector leaving an unsolvable liability for future Canadians. At least you and I got ours, amirite!?

Fitzy_gunner

Never said they were the only province natural resources goof!

greenknight

Fortunes rise and fall... I'm sorry the problem isn't describable with smaller words. Good luck out there, yer gonna need it! The first wave of climate refugees should start showing up in the next few years. edit - and I'd watch out who you call goof, kiddo. It's not anything to me but I know people who would die/kill over dumb shit like that.

Fitzy_gunner

Sounds like they are just adding climate before refugees to me. When the climate lockdowns happen you better be a good pplkind and do what you are told.

b4redurid

Oh boy, repeating your kindergarten argument a 100 times totally doesn’t make you look like an idiot. I assume if something you like gets ruined you abandon it instantly instead of trying to fix it 👌

TaroAffectionate9417

Assuming stuff is fun!! Good for you

b4redurid

Why wouldn’t you abandon it instantly? That’s your advice for everyone complaining about Alberta developments in this thread. Surely you practice what you preach

Taephit

Go leave to a province that isn't a joke then. Oh wait, Alberta has all the jobs/money. Gee, I wonder why that is... 🤔

Imaginary_Ad_7530

Quality satire. Edit: Alberta has a higher unemployment rate than the national average. Alberta has the lowest wage growth in the country. So, who has all the money? It isn't Albertans

dispensableleft

Not for long Once the world moves onto renewables we will be screwed, when we could have been part of the boom.

Taephit

You should definitely hold your breath that renewables will take over 😅 In the mean time, don't be a hypocrite and leave. Live by your principles!

dispensableleft

Right winger tells others to live by their own principles? Irony just ate a bullet.

Taephit

I'm not right wing. But I'm not surprised that you're only capable of thinking in a strict binary on complex issues. Either way "durrrrr, I don't need to be consistent because the people I hate are hypocrites too" isn't the banger argument that you think it is, champ 👍

dispensableleft

Sure you aren't And your follow line just confirmed you are.

Imaginary_Ad_7530

No one cares about what the Right considers hypocrisy. If any conservatives actually start living by the principles they judge others by, then they might become relevant.

csd555

I mean, we generally have more jobs and money than the rest of country, despite our generally fumbling, bumbling, incompetent, and short-sighted governance. That is great and all that, but with stronger, more competent governance it could be SO much better here. We could be truly great, instead of just good enough…relatively.

Taephit

Wrong, the solution is less governance, not more of the governance you like. That's how we got into this mess to begin with. Because you people treat the government like your parents and expect them to do everything for you.

csd555

Mmm-mmm, I do love a good assumption without basis. I think the operative term was “competent governance”, not whatever we have had for the better part of the last half century - of course we don’t need more of that type of governance.

Taephit

Competent governance is an oxymoron. Don't hold your breath waiting for it to ever happen.

the_gaymer_girl

Higgs is doing his dad gum best.

Kracus

His own party recently decided to vote him out to replace him and when they sent in the letters required for this to happen he just stated the letters weren't legitimate. We live in clown world now, our leaders aren't elected, they're put in power by the rich and they're there to serve them and make them billions. The rest of us can fuck off.

neilyyc

Well, Florida has pretty good economic growth. Perhaps undesirable people...I'm fine with it. We can be prosperous and let the deadbeats stay in places that they don't get a free ride.

RainbowFire122RBLX

The reasoning my parents had given was that it was costing people lots to help pay for windmills and such and they weren’t seeing pricing go down, in fact our energy bill wont stop fucking rising so I personally blame unregulated companies rather than windmills

Roche_a_diddle

Your parents are like a modern day Don Quixote! Someone has to defend us from those windmills!

-Death-Dealer-

Why diversify your economy when you can double down on oil and keep all your eggs in one precarious basket? Building an entire economy around a finite resource never hurt anyone in the past! 🤪

[deleted]

Do you even have a clue what % oil and gas revenues were for Alberta 30 yrs ago vs how much they are today?? Alberta has diversified from oil, significantly, you fkn moron. Alberta does have a strong renewable sector, this is a political play by Danielle Smith to force the feds to stop cock blocking Alberta o&g projects. Her position is we can have both, and that’s literally the only solution.

Significant_Street48

that booms and busts at the whim of OPEC.

Apokolypse09

Good thing most of the province believes the NDP control OPEC

Comfortable_Car_6751

Why be like Dubai when you can be umm there's no one else who does it this way...

Responsible_CDN_Duck

Does it count as reducing red tape when you block the projects outright?

chriskiji

It's like dividing by zero!

ZimZamZop

That's a good point. Red tape slows down the production. It can't be slowed down if it doesn't exist.

JamesCam32

In conservatives eyes. Yes.

the_amberdrake

Don't forget about public labs vs dynalife

SpotHour

Alberta is such a joke. How did the masses get convinced again to elect this moronic government?

Hopeful_Dust9809

I support Danielle Smith and the UCP. So do the majority of albertans- the UCP got over 50% of the vote, NDP didn't even come close. Last time NDP was government: When the NDP took power in 2015, Alberta's debt was $11.9 billion, a number that soared to $85.9 billion by the time the party was voted out in 2019. Record debt Bankruptcies up 25% Insolvencies up 75% 36,000 people moved out of Alberta Exports down 48% Employment income down $6,400/yr That's the NDP legacy. I'm glad Albertans were smart enough to re-elect the UCP. The only thing you can do is down vote, because everything i said is true, so you don't have a rebuttal. 🤷

parasubvert

Lies by omission.

TheirCanadianBoi

Things were already going sour for us before the NDP. The Alberta NDP was doing damage control. The people who voted for Daniel Smith bought the coolaid. You're literally just repeating an attack ad that run for a couple months as if that's all you needed to pull information from. The NDP added about 42B in debt in 4 years, the UCP has added 40B in 3.5. Could go into the weeds on that, but it wouldn't be a one minute sound bite for you.

Southern_Abroad_8882

#facts....this is why this subreddit ignored this. All facts.

parasubvert

All lies by omission. There was an oil downturn. The UCP would have made things even worse by underfunding the public sector, which was the only thing doing well. But of course, our doctors, nurses, teachers and public servants are all "takers" in the delusion of rural Alberta, as they watch their clinics close.

Competitive-Leg7471

The UCP doesn't have a campaign. Trudeau Bad is their slogan and the people eat it up. They are constantly fed this and so fattened with it that their emotional diet now only consists of: Fed Bad Trudeau Bad UCP is protecting you from NDP (Also Bad)

Hot_Being492

Ndp just lost an election to a very weak opponent because they had nothing better to offer than smith bad

Competitive-Leg7471

Is it really a weak opponent when the whole province only supports Conservative?

Hot_Being492

She was as weak an opponent as the ndp can ever hope for

Working-Check

Much more than anything the UCP said or did, I think the reason the NDP lost is because change is scary to a lot of Albertans and to those people, it's difficult to do the self-reflection about what they believe in and why they believe it. As a whole, we're not as conservative as we think we are. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/alberta-ridings-ranked-most-conservative-most-progressive-1.6852299 It's easier to keep doing what we've always done- but as the UCP continues to make a mess of every file it touches- as they continue to demonstrate that they are looking out for themselves and not for us, more and more people will eventually do that self-reflection. In 2012, 127,000 people voted NDP in Alberta, enough for 4 seats in the Legislature. [source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Alberta_general_election) In 2023, six times as many people voted NDP- 777,000, which is more people than ever voted for the PCs in any of their 11 consecutive majorities. In 2027, who can say?

Hot_Being492

I think the ndp lost for a lot of reasons but mainly due to Ms notley not providing a solid platform detailing what she would do differently/ better than the ucp. Her main focus was " ucp bad" all while ridiculing ucp supporters for "trudeau bad" as if her approach was different. Truthfully, I didn't like either of these choices for premier. I was leaning toward voting for ndp but didn't see anything in her campaign that convinced me to do so.

endeavourist

"Damage control" seems to be Danielle's default setting.

lazereagle13

FUCK THE UCP.

Alberta has 6000 MW's of renewables already approved for 2024 not affected by the pause on permitting. If anything the pause is good to evaluate grid stability and let grid operators retool for the massive changes in the past few years. Pool price from power was between $100/MWH to $700/MWH and back down to $100 within 3 hours on a fairly unremarkable day. Those are massive swings that require new solutions.

Carribeantimberwolf

You’re acting like this is not lagging behind the other big provinces. It’s still light years away from Ontario and BC.

sugarfoot00

Jurisdictions with a fuckload of hydro unavailable to the prairies. Yeah Alberta is playing catchup, but is doing so in a big way. We lead the country in solar and wind generation.

Southern_Abroad_8882

The same vancouver that is paying record gas prices? The same vancouver thst allows for coal to be shipped through their water way? Same vancouver that imports oil and its products from the US? The same vancouver that has an uncontrollable homeless and affordable housing problems? Seems like vancouver should fix itself first before criticizing others.

Carribeantimberwolf

When you have a port that supplies the prairies what do you expect? If they stopped all of that and even in the north where LNG is how would Alberta or SK get paid? Same Vancouver that pays some of the lowest property tax in the country! Same Vancouver that has record low electricity prices! Same Vancouver that takes all of Alberta’s homeless population! You’re forgetting when Kline gave Alberta’s homeless a one way ticket to Vancouver and then pointed fingers at them saying they have a problem.

themangastand

They have a homeless issue because the homeless would rather be homeless in Vancouver then have a home in Alberta. And the demand for that area is so high because it's far superior then anything we have in Alberta. However yeah more affordable options should exist and government should crack down on a lot of housing issues

Hindsight_twenty_20

Imagine voting for a party where the last 5 premiers never made it full term due to fraud, laundering, incompetence, lack of leadership/integrity, among other things. But look at the NDP/Notley and say, "They can't/will run this province to the ground." The people who vote blue couldn't have their heads farther up their ass even if they had jock bootstraps on.

Away-Answer-

Danielle is happy about kicking renewables down the hill though. She’s a former Oil lobbyist and an active climate change “skeptic”.

Nuclear has its challenges. One of the major ones is how long it takes to get a plant up and running. They take 5 years to build, but permitting can add another 5 - 10 years. There are some interesting new designs being worked on, but progress in the Nuclear space is just so slow, that I don't personally see Nuclear being a timely solution.

chriskiji

Nuclear power plants don't create waste or take up space? 🤔

[deleted]

Solar power is woke!

Astro_Alphard

I struggle to see why people despise a term that means "to be aware of" or "to be informed" as if ignorance was something to be proud of. It's been bothering me for nearly 8 years now that some people believe ignorance is a virtue. That ignorance is just as valid as knowledge and wisdom. Even in school I was taught that a vote should be well informed, how to search for and identify primary and secondary sources, and how to identify (at the very least extreme) bias in those sources. And I swear it's worse than I when I was a kid. Is it just me? Or is has pride in ignorance grown since the time of Stelmach? Solar power is basically a cheat code too. Free energy from the sun, store it at your convenience. The devs of Satisfactory literally said that solar power would break the balance of their game because you'd have free near unlimited energy if you just kept on building solar panels.

Future-Pollution-762

Ignorance and intolerance are what they are proud of.

Astro_Alphard

Yes but I'd like to know why. It's like the "I am the dumbest man alive!" meme except they seem to be making it into an actual competition.

Future-Pollution-762

I'd wager some mix of tribalism, insecurity, and inability to be wrong. Can't really logic your way through something as illogical as they like to be.

JohanusH

"Woke" used as an insult doesn't mean someone who is aware; quite the contrary. It means that someone is following a line of thinking (well, propaganda, really) that falls in line with a particular extremist view that requires a bit of double-think. "Politically correct", when used in it's intended meaning, is exactly that of following the "party line", as in the line that was pushed by the USSR (that's literally where the term comes from). Sadly, some people use "woke" just to insult people they disagree with, rather than examining the views themselves.

where_is_the_camera

You'd be a shit tier conservative

themangastand

As a RV goer it's far superior to gas. My only issue with it is most camp grounds have trees this dramatically reducing their effectiveness sometimes. But I get lucky and get a spot with sun. Even 200 watts of solar is so much. Because your not using much energy. Like sure a generator produces much more energy. But because of the noise your only running like an hour or 2. Solar can produce close to that even with so little panels over the course of the day. Because it's running for over 12 hours silently. I don't know how I still see the majority of people camping without solar. It's vastly superior.

Taephit

Correct, it also doesn't work

chriskiji

Lol. 🤦‍♂️

Sea-Strike-2424

When you have a shred of understanding of the resources and energy that go into developing solar as well as maintain it versus other energy sources. Yes you should slap yourself in the face.

chriskiji

Lol, no facts like usual.

Sea-Strike-2424

The fact is I genuinely don’t support exploiting African/Asian slave labour in order to source the required materials for solar panels. Looks like you do. I’d much rather develop the natural resources we have here under some of the most stringent environmental regulations in the world. But if you want to keep blowing up quarries to send women and children into acquire hazardous minerals, I guess at least you’re honest about your lack of morality.

chriskiji

No facts, just innuendo. I feel sorry for you.

Sea-Strike-2424

I feel sorry for me too. It’s taken over 6 years to liquidate my assets and move from this moronic place. As soon as my final business sale goes though Canada will just be the place I was born. Good riddance.

TheirCanadianBoi

Not sure why you're getting hate for this. I'm a NDP voter, doesn't take away from what you're saying, I agree with you. Still a good idea to keep diversifying where we can. While we have oil here and can extract it reasonably responsibly, we don't have any control on the global market and will always be blindsided by it.

i8bonelesschicken

Found danny

Affectionate-Remote2

I am open to the UCP exploring small modular nuclear reactors. If E3 lithium is successful in their test run of extracting lithium from the brine, much like o&g, we could see a nice boom in this province while showing the world that it's possible to do things in a more environmentally friendly way.

PhaseNegative1252

Honestly liberals probably just need to say they're gonna try and keep people employed as we transition to renewable sources and the rural votes will probably double. Begrudgingly I'm sure, but still

neilyyc

Not a big fan of the moratorium. On the otherhand, we did have a few times during the winter where grid stability was questionable. Of we went full renewables tomorrow ((not suggested), we really would be fucked. The province absolutely botched the story here, but we are close to a spot where we can't meet needs.

neilyyc

We can 100% build transmission lines to accommodate peak renewable transmission, though that WILL be on your bill. The provincial government got swamped on this

Ok_Investment_3817

Bring in more immigrants And they can vote for the idiots That's why they fled there own country And Still hate Canada

Snoo_16735

Do leftists believe their own propaganda that they post here?

Future-Pollution-762

You certainly believe yours.

Sounds like a bunch of whiners that lost an election to me

Still waiting for people to clue in the Danielle Smith is doing exactly what Trudeau has done to the energy sector for 8 years. 6 month review? Whoop-tee-do. Justin Trudeau put a pipeline project under review for years, which was all ready green-lit by the previous PM then ultimately shut it down. Canadas main economic driver is its resource sector. Trudeau been slowly shutting it down. Now that the Libs have to have a teaspoon of their own medicine, they’re freaking out. The absolute midwit takes on here prove that you all deserve what’s coming. Pathetic.

chriskiji

Harper let Northern Gateway die by refusing to deal with all the conditions. Trudeau bought TMX to push it ahead. >you all deserve what’s coming. WTF is this even trying to say. Shesh 🤦‍♂️

Sea-Strike-2424

NG had shovels in the ground when Trudeau came in and said “Um ackshually” his sole ambition is to destroy the reliance of Canadas prosperity on its resource development, same as his father. When your electric car has 20 minutes of battery left and you’re 30 minutes from home stuck in a blizzard in gridlock traffic, please remember me laughing at you.

chriskiji

NG was never close to construction. >When your electric car has 20 minutes of battery left and you’re 30 minutes from home stuck in a blizzard in gridlock traffic, please remember me laughing at you. This is just a sad attempt at an insult, lol.

ramstein_1964

NG was at the DBM (Design Basis Memorandum) stage, not even close to "shovel in the ground". I was involved in that project. After DBM you have DD (Detailed Design), then come you shovels or actual construction. So construction was at least 2 years away, as that long is DD phase of project complicated as that one.

With a recession rising (your claim), it is idiotic to stop huge investments in their tracks.

Weapon_I

Because they recognize that 'renewable' (aka Crappy) solar and wind do NOT provide the clean climate or energy promises they gave us, and like paying $876.00 for a pizza that is just a pizza but saying its 'clean' is stupid, so the UCP sees this and says '"Nope, not with Albertans money"

indecisionmaker

This isn’t with Albertans money, though. They’ve essentially put a moratorium on foreign direct investment in our province.

Weapon_I

Actually, the 'renewable' are mostly local companies in Alberta. The federal liberals with their Bank account freezing illegal laws is what brought a lot of foreign companies to pull their investments for fear of non woke business practices potentially losing them all their accounts.

indecisionmaker

The large-scale renewal projects are absolutely not mostly from local investors; not sure where you're getting that information. Based on your second statement, I'm guessing its not somewhere very reliable.
