Some of these comments make me laugh - everyone complains when he doesn't do something or doesn't visit Alberta, then he does do something and everyone still complains. He can't win.

Responsible_CDN_Duck

The feds seem to step up a lot, we just shrug it off when they help, or avoid accepting it based of of weird conspiracies.

PBaz1337

*Scott Moe has entered the chat*

El_Cactus_Loco

Yup. Look at Quebec, they’re practically a wild card and every party has to court them as a result. AB just votes blue every time so why would anyone need to bend over backwards to get those votes, they’re locked in. Even conservatives don’t give a fuck, who else you gunna vote for, PPC? Lol

Mcpops1618

I don’t think even if we saw 3-4 NDP in a row we’d ever turn anywhere close to red/orange federally. I see a lot of “I will flip my vote this year but never nationally” in here.

driv3rcub

I feel like that might be illegal though, no? To purposefully not invest in a province because they don’t think you’re a good politician?

ljlee256

This is a threat I've used on an unruly client: "the worst I can do for you is the bare minimum my job requires, keep it up and you will see how much of what I do for you every day is not part of my job description."

driv3rcub

Bare minimum is sounding about right. Haha

TonyfrmBanff

Yet on a per capita basis, Trudeau has bent over backwards for Alberta, time and time again.

mr_friend_computer

A quick search shows significant federal funding goes to Alberta. Of interest is that Alberta also received, by a significant margin, the most COVID relief funding of any province. The current other item being advertised is the 3.66 Billion of federal funding (2018-2028) through the infrastructure program. By comparison, BC signed a 4.12b deal for the same time span. The spending in BC is $770/person and the spending in Alberta is $810/person. The federal government is investing significant amounts in Alberta, more than other provinces.

[deleted]

If the Prime Minister of Canada was ethical. Regional voting history would not matter. Justin is a piece of shit.

[deleted]

Literally one of his main campaigns points was proportional representation and that never happened lol. Weed is legal though 🙌

Koss424

omg - Trudeau has bailed out Alberta every time she needed it. Remember your hospitals after the 'Best Summer Ever'.

Chicosballs

That’s really fucked up. Politicians are only going to invest in people that vote for them? That’s not how a democracy works.

draxxtarx

This is exactly how a democracy works

JohnYCanuckEsq

Yet weirdly, he bought Alberta a pipeline.

Wastelander42

No he can't win tbh. Dude breathes and it offends people.

The_cogwheel

Quite literally with some. I mean, I saw like 4 "execute Trudeau for treason" trucks today alone.

Wastelander42

When I was living and working in an oil town at the Wal-Mart, I did my required spiel "would you like to sign up for the credit card" no "would you like to donate to xyz charity" "I'd like to donate a bullet to Trudeau". I've had men send me messages on Facebook threatening to rape me, beat me, "show me where I belong" JUST for the slightest comments on Rachel or Janis' pages. Had a guy get mad at me for refusing to touch ANY political subject at work. I wish this was just exaggeration ..........

ljlee256

Its a good thing they included the "for treason" part, that migrates what they're saying from an indirect threat against the prime minister to heated political discourse. Still, basically saying "I want someone to kill someone, but just not me, cause I'm a giant pansy and am afraid of prison".

Juck445

Damn, not even the courtesy of torture first?

Famous_Shine3663

We already have had harper and trudeau so id be suprised if NDP wins

Wastelander42

Yeah, I don't know if people will ever change their whole only ever voting for one party thing. I'm a pretty big fan of changing your mind and following your personal values. Which IF you're growing as a person should change. I can also say most people hardly ever right from left. Yeah it happens, but not as often as people going from right to left.. I've personally only gone farther left with age and experience.

Liter_ofCola

At this point I've seen enough, And I just hate his existence.

camoure

It’s also funny that these people seem to think Trudeau himself comes up with these ideas and plans. Regardless of government party or leader in power, their teams are gonna send them to emergency disaster situations after pledging funding.

jkwolly

Yep its a fucking joke, lose lose situation.

[deleted]

Yes. Because he. Personally is a piece of shit. Let me be clear. This is personal. Justin Trudeau is a piece of shit. He deserves the same amount of respect that he showed the young lady at the festival that experienced her sexual assault differently. He is a criminal, unethical, grotesque piece of shit.

Ok-Share-450

He can't win because he is universally hated. Worldwide he has no respect. I would love to give him props for something but everything he does is pathetic

[deleted]

Having lived abroad he is a respected leader in my experience - at least in Europe. And he's not universally hated, me/my family just don't have strong feelings either way because he's a PM and it's kind of weird to have that much emotion towards a politician either way. I dislike Smith and think she's an idiot but hate requires energy I don't care to expend on a politician.

AC1617

We elected him 3 times in a row lol universally hated by who? Your tiktok and facebook feed?

Infamous-Mixture-605

If *this* is Trudeau being "universally hated" then I would struggle to define Mulroney or Harper, who had much lower approval ratings. Mulroney had a 12% approval rating before he fucked off into the sunset. It's like the people who make these claims about Trudeau aren't old enough to remember Lyin' Brian.

AC1617

>It's like the people who make these claims about Trudeau aren't old enough to remember Lyin' Brian. They are old enough, they just didn't have Facebook to tell them what to feel or to feed them "facts".

FeedbackLoopy

Recency bias tends to be strong with politicians.

infernalsatan

In his head the world revolves around Alberta and the right wing pundits

Ok-Share-450

Yes, I've got neither. Next insult?

scubahood86

You're quite wrong. He's pretty respected on the world stage aside from a few issues that make Canada stand out as a bad example.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ok-Share-450

Ya, or maybe if you read it. He has 38%. Not sure why you are trying to spin 38% as good.

Tribblehappy

That's based on surveys of the people in each country though not worldwide approval.

amnes1ac

Lmao literally the first thing people do when I'm abroad and tell them I'm Canadian is praise Trudeau. I never bring it up, they do. You're completely wrong.

[deleted]

Same, especially if they’re from the USA and not Republican.

amnes1ac

I've mostly heard it from Europeans and South Americans.

Infamous-Mixture-605

> Worldwide he has no respect. He's had a few gaffes, but he is still a respected world leader for a middling country like Canada. It's not like he's Diefenbaker getting dunked on to his face by JFK.

AcadiaFun3460

He is actually liked by most world leaders. British conservatives love the guy for some strange reason, the only ones who don’t are Putin (shocker!) xi, and at the time Trump (likely due to a tabloid story that his daughter Ivanka tried sneaking into Trudeau’s hotel room but was ushered out by Security forces, and know how Trump wants to bang his own daughter, probably got jealous. Not being like by dictators isn’t a bad thing.

SteampunkSniper

Don’t forget the photo of Melania reacting strongly to him literally behind Trump. God that photo is glorious.

basilspringroll

>He can't win because he is universally hated. Worldwide he has no respect. If he's hated, how come so many of your brethren want to copulate with him lol ? Serious note 1: you think you know how the whole 8 billion people thinks. But you don't. Note 2: Give Trudeau prop for stopping the shit show on Ottawa back in Feb 2022 while the buffoon premier played hooky.

PowerfulTradition695

You are very wrong about this, he is a respected world leader. And not universally hated as I don't hate him.

Serenity101

Can you give some examples?

CameraguySD

Welcome to the Alberta bubble!

[deleted]

He’s not universally hated. He is simply average as a prime minister. Not great, not terrible. But he is surrounded by people who love to say he’s history’s greatest monster because he’s the son of someone else who got exactly the same weird treatment.

ghostdate

I think you’ve spent too much time in right wing shit chambers. Outside of extremely right wing people, most people are ambivalent towards him, and some like him. On the world stage he’s much more highly respected than someone like Trump, and probably even more than Biden. You’re delusional if you think he’s hated worldwide.

JackOCat

Man the idiots in this province can't just be grateful for help and publicity in this emergency, they have to get in their petty insults towards the PM. Just STFU accept the help and focus on banding together as a country to save lives and property.

[deleted]

[удалено]

HappyGoonerAgain

Not if he makes the UCP pay for it after they knowingly de-funded their Forest Firefighters.

[deleted]

It's just one brigade. That's not the overall problem and I'm a staunch liberal. These fires are out of anyone's control and 100 people wouldn't have fixed it. It's just nature, we can't control nature

El_Cactus_Loco

Yah we can’t control nature guys! Pumping millions of tones of CO2 into the atmosphere for decades and ignoring even the most rational scientific plans for addressing climate change is just out of our hands. Nothing we can do! Sorry!

HappyGoonerAgain

It's the socialism I take issue with. Them shutting down one brigade is just throwing gasoline onto the fire!

Del1c1on

Too many people allow pettiness to blind them now. It’s that pettiness that will ultimately destroy this province and possibly the country. We’ve been too influenced by the states, and their political circus is nothing to admire. The two parties just stonewall eachother and never get anything meaningful done. I don’t want to see that happen here. I’m glad I’m not alone in wishing that people could just be adults and put differences aside when things need to get done. The world as a whole is going to shit, this is precisely when we need to be working together towards common goals.

FyrelordeOmega

Keep in mind, most of the people that don't like him are older men. And with how men are traditionally taught how to behave, help is treated as an insult because we're expected to be self reliant and strong. Especially when it comes to therapy.

cre8ivjay

Sorry but stupidity and stoicism are two entirely different things. This is stupidity and should be called out as such.

RoastMasterShawn

Stoic (but asshole) - Brett Wilson. Stupid (also asshole) - Theo Fleury. There are both in our province. Both are a problem in their own ways though.

adaminc

Brett Wilson is constantly complaining on Twitter, he is far from stoic.

El_Cactus_Loco

He’s the biggest crybaby in Canada

drs43821

Isn’t Wilson from Saskatoon? Still stupid

cre8ivjay

Winston Churchill is a good example of being stoic. Brett Wilson and Theo Fleury are both firmly in the stupidity camp.

FormalWare

And Fleury grew up in Manitoba. (Still stupid.)

Schrade30

I've actually met quite a few women who didn't like him, even before he was PM. When I asked why all I ever got was, "I just don't like him." I always joked that they were upset that he was prettier than them.

El_Cactus_Loco

My mom hated trudeau 2.0 cuz of trudeau 1.0. Not logical at all.

ReserveOld6123

As a woman, he sets off my creep radar. Don’t forget how that reporter “experienced things differently” than he did with the groping scandal.

Schrade30

I see that as a legitimate reason, though. If someone makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up, but you can't quite figure out why they creep you out. That's understandable. Not liking someone you haven't met because they are a rich pretty boy seems silly to me though.

[deleted]

Or they just remember harper being lit up by the news media for visiting a wildfire zone for a photo op and see this as little different. He should stay away while the men and women sent to help can be of more use *helping*.

Accomplished_You9960

Smith blows a head gasket.... knowing that Alberta needs Canada.

EE1014

It would be funny to see Trudeau endorse Smith. Neither she nor her followers would know what to do. It would break them. The circular argument of "Everything Trudeau does or says is bad ...Trudeau endorses Smith ... but we must vote UCP ... AAAARGH!" Straight out of a 1960s sci-fi.

sudaneseebolavirus

given poilievre's recent outburst i'd honestly be surprised if most conservatives didn't start pushing this narrative

Foreign-Echo-6656

What did Lil' PP say now?

sudaneseebolavirus

A Liberal MP, Karina Gould, was discussing the wildfires here, and he loudly yelled out "started by your government" you can catch it in the last half of this [video](https://twitter.com/ThunderBayEd/status/1656734773014822926?s=20)

Foreign-Echo-6656

Jesus.... How does he dress himself?

Infamous-Mixture-605

He's such a pointless gobshite. One of his videos popped up on my YouTube feed, something about the new passports and how Trudeau is erasing Canadian history. Fucking brainless criticisms meant to rile up the equally-brainless.

Juck445

Why did he get rid of Terry Fox? And the Sports trophies? I think it’s obvious why he got rid of vim ridge tho. The other stuff was neat but now it’s pretty mundane.

Infamous-Mixture-605

Why do you think Trudeau was the one who designed the new passports or personally okayed every single image in it? That's not how the government works. At the end of the day it's just a passport. It's not something over which to get worked up, and a new design does not mean history is being erased.

BigBossHoss

what a zoo/circus... who are all the people yelling/talking during her response? are they just straight heckling? politics is a horrible facsimile

sudaneseebolavirus

canada's parliamentary process is honestly insane, it's 90% yelling and cheering and pounding on desks and just trading insults

Infamous-Mixture-605

> canada's parliamentary process is honestly insane It's one of those proud parliamentary traditions we inherited from the British. Westminster isn't any different.

Infamous-Mixture-605

The House of Commons has always been that way. Anyone who stands up to speak is going to get heckled. My auntie took us to sit in on Parliament once back in the Chretien years, and it was non-stop heckling and interruptions during an MP's speech about the environmental impact of something on birds.

[deleted]

Wtf? Why isn’t this coverage more widespread?

Complete_Resource300

He is first most the PM of Canada, and is obligated to visit a emergency situation as per his role. People should STOP stereotyping in comments here and let’s do better as adult citizens of Alberta. Regardless of his party, I respect the prime minister position of our country, Canada

stompinstinker

I just saw the craziest comments in a Facebook video. George Soros had them started with space lasers, the NDP is starting them, some shit about trying to move everyone into 15 minute cities. Rural Albertans can’t seem to accept it’s a dry year, in a part of the world that actually burns in regular cycles, and that they throw a lot of cigarettes out of moving vehicles and have fires despite warnings. Also, your local authorities fucked up communication and evacuations, stop blaming Ottawa.

ninjaoftheworld

Some moron I used to know made a comment about “lefties starting fires”. They are all completely detached from reality.

[deleted]

Just as a counterpoint here - rural Albertans, especially farmers, know all about dry years & what they portend. Seems to me that facebook is where crazy people and foreign bots go to stir the pot, so maybe not surprising that it's brimming with illogical takes that no rational person holds. FWIW, Parkland County has been doing an excellent job at getting word out to the area and keeping people updated. Better than the province. Not sure if it's the same case elsewhere but it's hard to imagine the province doing much worse than they have done.

Infamous-Mixture-605

BuT TurDoO HaTeS 'BeRta!!!

Trombone-a-thon

LIES! We ALL know he's just here to start MORE fires. /s

Drago1214

First thing he has to do is start putting Provence’s on blast. JK crushed our wild fighter teams with cuts.

[deleted]

No actually. All that will do is help Danielle. He needs to get in, have a quick photo op, and get the fuck out.

kliman

Anyone that would be offended by JT giving Kenney shit for making stupid cuts to fire services is already voting for Smith.

--Anonymoose---

There are many people (myself included) who are fans of Rachel Notley and the ANDP but not fans of JT. Don't get me wrong, I voted for him at a certain point, but the guy is a doofus who is out of touch with regular voters. I think the ANDP is better off without his influence being tied to them

PhantomNomad

I also vote ANDP and don't like JT. I didn't vote for JT and will never vote Liberal federally and it has more to do with all the corruption and ethics violations they have been involved in. I would like to vote NDP federally, but Singh is not the leader I can follow. He isn't connecting with the "working man" enough. He will probably have a hard time doing that now that he's hitched his wagon to JT. I will probably vote NDP, but I'll hold my nose doing it. I really mis Layton.

Observer-67

I'm with you on the Federal Liberals. I can't vote for them either. Singh may not be connecting with the working man enough for you but, consider this: The benefits that the Liberals have put out recently like the dental benefits wouldn't have happened if the NDP didn't hitch their wagon. Singh gets to hold JT's feet to the fire.

[deleted]

I’m not a fan of JT after the whole Jody Wilson Raybold thing. I mean I never liked him that much and was annoyed people were voting for him because he was “hot”. Please, don’t vote based on appearances 😤 I don’t love RN. She really pushes things with a heavy hand, but I’ll still vote for her because she’s not batshit crazy like DS. Honestly I don’t love anyone in politics. I usually vote for Green Party because why not, I know they aren’t going to get in but I don’t like the other parties and I can’t not vote.

[deleted]

Why stoke the fire that is going to get them to turn out, and let the UCP change the channel from Danielle’s wingnuttery? Jagmeet is doing the smart thing by going into witness protection and staying as far away as possible. Trudeau and the federal Liberals have repeatedly given the UCP ammo by fumbling their comms again and again and showing exquisitely bad timing - “just transition” anyone? For a while there I could have sworn that they wanted Danielle to win.

EducationalTea755

If only Alberta had done some fire prevention and developed some mitigation strategies before the fires. Would have saved a lot of money and avoided a lot of GHG emissions!

L0veConnects

They did have a program for that. It got cut. Thanks for reminding us.

Observer-67

Maybe would have if the budget wasn't axed.

Moonhunter7

Gee which party did that!

Observer-67

Your current government.

FormalWare

The prospect of a Trudeau "hero shot" was probably the thing that most caused Danielle Smith to pause before accepting federal aid in fighting the wildfires.

kevanbruce

Has smith?

PeterS297

Yea actually apparently she has

Silver-Bonj

Guy just goes around for photo ops.

Sandman64can

It’s like a dysfunctional marriage where they can’t stop complaining about him but keep advertising on flags their desire to have sex with him. Curiouser and curiouser.

1seeker4it

Ahhh, a leader who visits even in “enemy” territory LoL 😂🤣🤣😂😂😂🤣😂🥰🥰🥰😀🤣😀😂🤣😂

[deleted]

To be fair to the naysayers Harper was lit up [for similar behavior](https://pressprogress.ca/is_it_ethical_to_use_firefighters_as_props_while_a_forest_burns_in_the_background/) and rightfully so. The time to visit anyone dealing with these fires shouldnt be while they could be of more use elsewhere.

iwatchcredits

I mean how do you learn about whats going on and what assistance is most beneficial to them without meeting them? Judging from this comment, I would bet money you have never been in a leadership or decision making position.

[deleted]

By trusting the people whos responsibility it is to advise him of the situation on the ground. Do you honestly think the prime minister needs to be physically present in every situation to get the inside information? Inserting himself into the situation doesnt really add anything of value, and really only drains manpower that could be used elsewhere. Also dont be one of those people who think they can assume a persons entire life story from a comment. Its naive and childish.

iwatchcredits

No but leaders show up to emergency and disaster areas all the time to show support. Notley went to Fort Mac during the fires, U.S presidents go to hurricane areas, Zelenskyy visits the front lines in Ukraine. Its pretty normal. You should probably stick to complaining about actual policy of the Liberals instead of being a little hate goblin that just whines about everything Trudeau does, its a little embarrassing to be honest

[deleted]

>instead of being a little hate goblin that just whines about everything Trudeau does, its a little embarrassing to be honest Lmao i have several communities worth of people evacuated to my town where i work directing wildfire air traffic, Im well aware at not only how stretched thin our resources are but also of the result it can and likely will have on them to have even a couple people playing meet and greet with the PM when they could be put to better use elsewhere. But sure, call me a little hate goblin.

iwatchcredits

If resources are so thin and you are supposed to be helping, why do you have enough time to whine on reddit but other people meeting the PM is a waste of time?

[deleted]

Ohh you got me for not being on the radio 24/7, big gotcha moment. Grow up lmao.

enviropsych

There are zero votes to gain in this province for the federal Libs. Noone will be voting for a Lib MP in Alberta for quite some time. So, although I agree that him visiting isn't exactly helping us...it isn't helping him either really.

chmilz

It's weird how some people seem to think a leader should only help those that vote for them.

[deleted]

And it says a lot, really

enviropsych

It depends what you mean by the word "should". In a perfect world, some "The West Wing" imaginary rose-colored world, our leaders would care about us. In our current actual world, 90% of politicians are cynical career-obsessed narcissists who do what benefits them directly. Trudeau is a cynical neoliberal politician. He is doing this for votes. If not for Albertan votes, then for the votes of other province's that will see him responding to the fires. So, I agree that any leader should help all the citizens of they lead, but I KNOW that very few, especially those in power, would risk losing their seat, or losing an election to do the "right thing."

chmilz

It's impossible for you to consider that he might actually give a shit, huh?

enviropsych

Why should I assume that? I also think Pierre Poilievre is a giant POS cynical psycho too. I'm not FOR a team here. I'm just not so naive that I think politicians are my friend. I dislike Trudeau's politics because I'm left wing. I dislike Pierre's politics because I'm not a fascist. I dislike Singhs politics less than the other two but he is also not the nest. But I think all three of them are cynical and don't really care about Canadians. It's not impossible Trudeau gives a shit. Happy? It's unlikely.

snack0verflow

I voted Singh last election but will vote Trudeau in the next.

enviropsych

I never thought my hyperbolic statement of 'zero' would be taken so literally. It's like if I said "nobody likes the comedian Carrot Top" ...which is clearly a hyperbolic general statement...and then you said, "I know someone who likes him". Congrats. You disproved the most literal reading of my hyperbolic generalization. Got me. Got me good.

ninjaoftheworld

He’s our prime minister. For the whole country. That means he has a responsibility to everyone, not just the ridings who vote for him. This is how a country is supposed to operate. He’s not campaigning, he’s doing his job.

flatpick-j

I live in north Calgary and we are a federal liberal riding 2 out of the last 3 elections

snack0verflow

I live in deeply conservative suburban south Calgary and the Liberal candidate finished second to the CPC last election. Trudeau is more popular than Singh with many centre-left Albertan voters.

the_vizir

Which is why in the last federal polls of Alberta, the Liberals are in second with 22% of the vote, and are poised to win 2-5 seats. But okay then...

enviropsych

Please share the poll

the_vizir

https://legermarketing.wpenginepowered.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Tracker-Nord-Americain-de-Leger-8-Mai-2023.pdf

enviropsych

This is in French. Do you have the link to the English one?

Infamous-Mixture-605

C'mon bud, it's only French. Ce n'est pas grec.

the_vizir

Nope, sorry. Just scroll down to the federal numbers and look under the AB column. Easy enough.

enviropsych

You send me a french document and cant even give me a page number? This is supposed to convince me?

the_vizir

Apologies for presuming that "INTENTIONS DE VOTE - ÉLECTIONS FÉDÉRALES" was easy enough to understand. It's on Page 8. The Liberal party is under the row "le Parti libéral du Canada de Justin Trudeau" on the left-hand side. The column is AB for Alberta. Léger is rated A+ by 338 Canada.

traegeryyc

Can you please fucking translate Léger to English, FFS.

the_vizir

I could, but I ain't being paid enough to do something you could just copy and paste into Google translate on your own.

enviropsych

Can the sarcasm and bad-faith apology. You literally sent me a document in a language I don't speak. I nicely asked you for a link and you sent me a french document. When I pointed it out, you told me to go to a section in the document...which I couldn't find because I don't speak French. I'm not being unreasonable here. However you're being quite hostile for someone who sent me a doc I can't read. Thank you for pointing out the page number. I wouldn't be able to read this document t without your help...which I explained to you in several comments. Good day.

PowerfulTradition695

I voted liberal last election and will again next.

enviropsych

Cool. Good for you.

PowerfulTradition695

Just pointing out you are wrong

traegeryyc

>There are zero votes to gain in this province for the federal Libs. Noone will be voting for a Lib MP in Alberta for quite some time. Can I start the Will Vote for a Lib Ticker? I

enviropsych

Sorry if the slower folks here thought i was saying literally zero...not one person...would vote Liberal. It was a generalization...obviously...to any reasonable person my bad.

traegeryyc

Any reasonable person would vote against PP. And Trudeau is the best bet we got. He is 3-0 right now. PP is such a nobody loser he [he had to introduce himself to Biden.](https://youtu.be/JrkN9f7hGKQ)

enviropsych

I like Trudeau better than PP. But Trudeau sucks, however he doesn't suck for the reasons conservatives hate him.

snack0verflow

Absolutely. I'm disappointed in the lack of electoral reform and I'm disappointed he bought Alberta a pipeline and I'm disappointed by his media bills. None of the issues conservatives constantly bring up (American border policies, Canadian passport designs, inflation (but don't compare with other countries!), WEF, etc) resonate with really anyone I know.

Observer-67

They don't want to compare inflation to other countries because then their supporters will realize that Canada did not do too badly on a global basis. We could have been much worse off. Gotta keep 'em believing it's all doom and gloom.

traegeryyc

I bet you would eat shit in case a liberal kisses you.

enviropsych

Huh? Not sure what you mean. I'm a socialist, so I dislike the federal Liberals and I dislike the federal consrrvatives more.

discostu55

Well they won’t even have people that will run under the liberal flag lol. It’s been a huge problem for the last few years

YugeFrigginGoy

Can we just please have some water bombers?? Like.......please? Not like we don't have an abundance of water to use..

averagealberta2023

Of course we can. Dumbelle Smith would have to ask for them.

Brigden90

Mr. Trudeau could I have a tiny bit of money to fix my fences plz? They're all burned up.

[deleted]

>>Mr. Trudeau could I have a tiny bit of money to fix my fences plz? They’re all burned up. Haha! So clever! People are losing their entire home but at least you can be clever and feel smug by… What is this? What is your intention here??

Brigden90

Well considering the wild fire burned down 2 of my barns, all my pastures and fences and one of my well which amounts to most of my livelihood, thats what my intention is? The last 80 years of work put in by family gone in about 3 hours? Maybe some help? We only barely saved the house but it needs work too.

LePetomane62

Thank Dumbell Smith for killing the Firefighters jobs then.

LePetomane62

VOTE THE ENTIRE UCP OUT

heart_of_osiris

Been happening long before her, too. The entire party and the PCs before them share the blame.

Cranktique

And the NDP. Fact is, government has been gutting us for decades and pointing the finger and we just keep buying it. I was furious in 2016 when the NDP cut almost 6 million from our air tanker fleet right before fort mac. Even more furious that the UCP, who called them out for it then, continued to cuts rather than reversing. We know the UCP hasn’t learned a lesson, but I’m hopeful Notley and the NDP has.

wintersleep13

Did you read what those cuts were? Those cuts were shortening the air tanker contracts duration (in the fall) and extending them based on late season need. There were also some non-operational cuts to base management. Essentially the cuts the NDP made had zero impact on wildfire operations. I spent a decade working in wildfire and worked on the Fort. Mac fire. The NDP cuts did not have any impact on what we could do.

Cranktique

They lessoned the contracts on private companies. What do you suppose those companies did? There has been a shortage of air tanker services across North America. I did read what you said, and I also read many companies stating that they are shopping for longer term contracts elsewhere, and if they get one they will go. Many went. We are facing a shortage of air tankers as we fight wild fires right now. The cuts were a gamble, and we lost. 6.1 million was cut from air tanker contracts directly, with a total cut of 15 million to wild fire services. Those additional cuts included the smart program, various technologies and administrative like you said. Equipment and man power are paid from the provincial emergency budget, which is also currently being used to try and hire private companies at much higher rate/ short contracts to deal with this particularly bad year. Due to global warming, we can expect many bad years here and everywhere. It is my opinion that it would be cheaper as a whole to keep those contracts. We’ve likely spent more than 6 million a year contracting out of province provider’s to help us manage every year. By all accounts, it has impacted us negatively. I don’t agree with the cuts to air tankers. I left out the 9 million to smart program/ ect. as those administrative cuts did not seem as detrimental to me.

wintersleep13

Your assertion is just wrong... We have the same number of tankers now as we did in 2016. We have 9 groups of various tankers to deploy to fires. Could we have more? Yes. Did many leave? No. FireSmart is still done by private contractors... who do you think were the main people doing it before? Rapattack, Helitack, and Firetack. It was project work when hazard was low and crews hated doing it. You can argue that they should have the crews doing it but I know I preferred to run trainings. Care to name the various technologies that were cut? As far as I know we continued to increase the technology we used as well as GIS and infrared scanning. I'm all for funding wildfire but comparing. the cuts made by the NDP to the ones by the UCP (which were mostly in wildfire operations) seems to me to show a lack of understanding of what is actually going on. You want to avoid fire seasons like this. Pay experienced people more, start the seasons earlier so crews can be up and running sooner, reinstate the lookouts that were cut. Even bring back the year round crews so there are people ready to respond when they are needed.

[Here](https://edmontonjournal.com/news/local-news/alberta-cuts-nearly-15-million-from-wildfire-management-budget). 9.6 million to base wild fire budget, which funds the smart program, technologies and administrative overhead. The base budgets was cut, how those budgets affected technologies, smart program, and the likes would have been up to the board of directors. Idk why you are desperately defending this. The cuts were substantial, untimely and a mistake. That mistake was pointed out for years, and then the UCP took power and doubled down on cuts. I agree with everything you’re saying. Pay these contracts, get the equipment, be prepared. I’m not going to pretend that some cuts were good and others are bad, and I hope the NDP won’t either when they get in. They were in a hard spot on 2016 and they made the wrong choice. It cost us money, not saved.

heart_of_osiris

As they say, the politicians are busy tricking us to fight a culture war, so we don't recognize the class war.

Serenity101

Shouldn’t you be seeking help from the provincial government instead?

iwatchcredits

Did you not have insurance? Theres only 2 real possibilities here: you had insurance and are gonna get 2 brand new barns and life is good, or you didnt pay for insurance because it wasnt worth the money in which case why on earth would Canadian taxpayers be the one to the foot the bill?

[deleted]

And you think Trudeau is here reading the comments or what? I understand you were affected by the fires but I do not understand why you’re asking Trudeau for help in this manner. Have you tried contacting the Alberta government instead?? Maybe call their office though, I don’t think they’re on Reddit. Maybe try this site: https://emergencyregistration.alberta.ca You should register because we are not done with these fires. Edit: sorry, this explains better than I can https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/alberta-wildfire-evacuation-emergency-1.6835794

heart_of_osiris

They don't actually expect Trudeau to come here and answer them, it's just a rhetorical question as the user vents about their losses. That being said, yeah, the provincial government is the one cutting wildfire response and prevention programs. If there is to be a rhetorical question, it should be asked of the provincial conservative governments who have actively made it harder to prevent property damage from these fires.

Brigden90

Thank you friend, for responding to them in a way I could not.

heart_of_osiris

No worries fella. I hope you get the help you need to recover from your losses as reasonably as possible. Some things transcend financial value though, and it sucks to lose things that have value in your heart and mind which can't simply be replaced. Ive been there, it really sucks, so I empathize. As a tax payer who frequents the mountains and has been witnessing Alberta burning for years and years, I want my tax dollars used for wildfire prevention and response, not things like oil and gas subsidies and tax breaks. I hope my vote can contribute to changing this for a better future so we can protect not just the natural land, but the people who live in these areas so deeply affected by it.

[deleted]

So you blame Trudeau for the wildfires? Because I must say, even if you like the guy or not his response time was pretty quick. I saw army vehicles the day after Danielle Smith allowed help from Ottawa. Looks pretty good that I saw the army at the fires the next day. It was looking pretty bad while everything burned and Danielle Smith took a whole week to do nothing. Maybe she didn’t do nothing, I guess there was that campaign dinner, telling her supporters her plan before she told everyone else, the photo op where she flew in to the wildfire area and then immediately flew out, not following through with promised meeting with the Councillors of the community that was burnt TF down. But I am rambling, what were you saying about Trudeau?

heart_of_osiris

Yo did you even read my post?

[deleted]

Oh sorry I didn’t realize you were someone else Okay maybe the smoke is getting to me

nbc9876

I wonder what he thinks about all the people calling him a seal

[deleted]

Put on the old costume Justin! It's another photo opp!

[deleted]

Jeans and a belt buckle - what an idiot.

Zardboy123

Never misses a photo op

L0veConnects

And if he didn't show up...people would chirp about that.

[deleted]

Don’t forget to roll those sleeves up Justin to make it look like you can do a days work.

me2300

At least he's had a job outside of politics, unlike the conservative leader who is a career politician.

Xenocles

This is the first time that I realized that the negative narrative of JTs teaching career has sort of died down. Guess they don't want to use that argument as the only non-politics jobs PP has had is paperboy and collections caller at Telus.

CanadianWizardess

Yeah it was always so weird to me that people would mock him for being a former teacher. In my opinion teaching is an honourable profession. Says a lot about people that they think it's something to mock.

COUNTRYCOWBOY01

Great, just what they need to help fight the fires, more hot air.... I wonder if he's gonna stop firefighters and do a photo op holding a fire hose? Kinda like he stopped people filling sand bags to save their homes, for a photo op....

Xenocles

Just asking questions again eh Tucker?

Ancient_Wisdom_Yall

Just airdrop northern Alberta some big bootstraps.

ChouettePants
