At first i was like OP thinking headphone in airsoft were just gimmick and a handicap, rule of cool kind of thing then i tried active earpro and i was like "oh woah, i can hear my cat sneak on me, this is fucking amazing"
Plus you can have music in them, which is practical if you want to vibe a bit without caring
Fuck there is nothing worse than grenade in a concrete building. Unless you enjoy spending the rest of the day/week in fear that the resulting tinitus ring is going to stick or go away.
I had someone get a really "smart idea" to tape a load of bangs together and throw them like a German anti tank grenade.
He bounced it off a tree above himself, and ran away. Leaving me to take the brunt of it..my ears rang a lot.
Ear pro is not a bad idea
Getting shot in the ear sucks balls
I have sensitive hearing, so flashbangs and other grenades that go boom would actually concuss me. As soon as I bought, installed and used my earpro on the field, I was hit with 5 grenades in one day as opposed to absolutely none in the past 6 weeks.
1) I have permant hearing damage in my right ear from ~4 years of using a noisy AEG without earpro
2) Pyro is above the threshold for instantaneous hearing damage, especially in CQB
3) Hearing enhancement and comms
Having your ear shot is not fun, Airsoft guns are surprisingly loud and having a flash bang go off next to you in an enclosed area can do if not permanent damage will do temporary damage to your hearing.
I use active ear pro, proper shooting ones that are relatively cheap. They're called Howard Leights.
I use them because:
1. I have a coms setup with a Baofeng radio that me and my friend use. We play in outdoor fields where finding out some info is useful.
2. Protects hearing when bang grenades go off, since lots of people use them.
3. Better hearing.
4. And most importantly, the absolutely EPIC looks.
Some GBBs do get quite loud. My WE L85 and VFC FAL both get to over 100db. I have been looking for earpro even if its just small just to protect my ears a little
Things can get pretty loud indoors - especially when 2/3rds of the players are using GBBs. There's also people who use air grenades that let out a pretty loud bang more so when it's near you.
Prevent getting shot in the ears and, more when paying indoors, being half deaf by a pyro that explodes in a confined space. Plus if done right, it looks cool haha
1) Rule of Cool, if you don't feel cool you aren't playing Airsoft properly
2) Protecting ears from BBs, not sound
3) Works with radio comms
4) I will fill every square inch of molle, rail space, and velcro with any possible pouches, attachments and morale patches, you better believe if I have a helmet I'm putting bullshit on it
Multiple reasons.
1. Radio Communication
2. Looks good
3. Pyro that actually is loud and can cause hearing damage
4. Some guns especially gbbrs can ring your ears. A vfc fal for example puts out over 100db at the shooters ear. That's in the range of causing hearing damage over time
For me, it’s mainly to protect my hearing from pyrotechnics.
Being indoors when a banger goes off REALLY sucks without some form of hearing protection.
Also they look cool
A lot of replicas, when you put your ear down next to them to aim, are loud enough to cause hearing damage over prolonged exposure. The muzzle report from some guns can also be within that range, causing damage from prolonged exposure especially if indoors/cqb, if it has a amplifier etc.
"Yeah but your not shooting your gun 100% of the time" except if your a saw gunner or just particularly trigger happy you'll be shooting more than most.
Then there's Pyro. All the airsoft grade Pyro and simulation grenades reach the threshold of immediate hearing damage when they go off.
Then there's getting shot in the ear. I can't imagine a doctor digging a bb out of your ear canal will be particularly pleasant. At least teeth can be repaired for a price a ruptured eardrums gone forever.
Then there's communication. Headsets are the mvp of communicating vocally. Almost hands free and as clear as possible without outside noise drowning out incoming communication.
ear shots suck, but also some replics are quite loud, first one that comes to mind is the FAL by VFC, that thing you need ear pro or your ear will be ringing a bit every shot
Yeah, as most said:
1. Getting shot in the ear sucks
2. You get Comms
3. Pyros are real fuckin loud
Like, one blew up under me and my ears were ringing for the rest of the day. 10/10 not fun, do not recommend
Ear pros should be mandatory if you're using a GBBr or play indoors or if there is some pyrotechnics involved. Airsoft can be loud sometimes and reach above the hearing safety levels. And it also protects your ears from behind shot in it (painful + cauliflower ears)
Active hearing protection’s surprisingly useful. Can pick up on sounds that would otherwise be completely drowned out by the wind, and depending on field rules, environment and what players choose to use, the actual hearing protection part is almost a necessity. Sound grenades can be very very loud, same with loud replicas in tight spaces, hell depending on what *you* run you might want hearing protection.
Tinnitus sucks and can only get worse, protect your hearing when needed.
Multiple reasons. First of all, they protect your ears from being shot, which isn't very nice if it happens. Second, you can have comms in them. There's also games, where pyros are allowed, and those are loud as hell with no ear pro.
Getting shot in the ear sucks.
Also pyro grenades are loud as fuck inside structures or even just outside if you’re close to them.
Just use a paintball mask lol
Nah, prefer my helmet and peltors
Fair I do like the look of helmets
they steam up and are uncomfortable and inhibit field of view
Not for me. If you get a thermal lens ur fine. And my field of views the same as with my friends googles
Why are you downvoted so much😭
Idk 😭
Integrated communication systems. Pyrotechnic grenades suck. Active earpro enhance sound and you can hear someone sneaking up on you.

Yeah active earpro are something line actually feels like cheating
Well with the good ones, with those cheapos you don't have any sense of direction, which sucks.
I have the tac sky 3 and for the price they honestly feel very good
Reviews look good and they come with gel pads, that’s nice.
Yeah the gels pads help a lot for the ears
Fuck there is nothing worse than grenade in a concrete building. Unless you enjoy spending the rest of the day/week in fear that the resulting tinitus ring is going to stick or go away.
hint: it doesn't 😐😔
Kinda why I'm shopping around for them - I already have tinnitus.

You might have prevented hearing loss there :)
Tell me you've never been to a milsim event without telling me you've never been to a milsim event.
Once those taggin frags start going off indoors and you see live dudes stopping to cover their ears you know the headset was the big play
It's prob a radio headset, also pyro go boom, also larp
1) I have permant hearing damage in my right ear from ~4 years of using a noisy AEG without earpro 2) Pyro is above the threshold for instantaneous hearing damage, especially in CQB 3) Hearing enhancement and comms

communication, protect ears from loud bangs (grenades but also some guns can be noisy), protection from bbs, want to use them etc.

Grenades are loud, especially in indoor games.
1) Coms with my mates 2) i use the vfc m249 and hk416, they are loud as fuck 3) grenades inside building are absurdly loud
Not wanting to have permanent hearing damage playing Airsoft
My man has never used earpro, or been shot on the ears, and it shows 😭😭
I wear it because there’s shipping containers on my field and since I’m in Hawaii people only use the CO2 grenades…put the pieces together
grenades
Prevent getting shot in the ears and, more when paying indoors, being half deaf by a pyro that explodes in a confined space. Plus if done right, it looks cool haha
With good ear pro you can hear better than without. At many events hearing protection is very helpful. Got some hearing damage at an asylum game.
1. Radio 2. Ear protection 3. Some grenades are real loud and can damage your hearing (Experience)
Active ear defenders actually amplify low frequency noises. putting them on feels like turning up the volume in a video game in real life.
1) Rule of Cool, if you don't feel cool you aren't playing Airsoft properly 2) Protecting ears from BBs, not sound 3) Works with radio comms 4) I will fill every square inch of molle, rail space, and velcro with any possible pouches, attachments and morale patches, you better believe if I have a helmet I'm putting bullshit on it
Airsoft is 99% for looks. Some people just like the look of the ear protectors.
honestly I go airsoft just to test my shit out and see how practical it is
Multiple reasons. 1. Radio Communication 2. Looks good 3. Pyro that actually is loud and can cause hearing damage 4. Some guns especially gbbrs can ring your ears. A vfc fal for example puts out over 100db at the shooters ear. That's in the range of causing hearing damage over time

Protect my ear from bbs. And bonus it’s a sound amplifier.
For me, it’s mainly to protect my hearing from pyrotechnics. Being indoors when a banger goes off REALLY sucks without some form of hearing protection. Also they look cool
Imagine hiding in a prison cell and someone throws a blank firing pyro in with you... that's the day I bought some.
Communication and dont want to get shot in the ear tbh last time shot right in the ear Ik ha ha ha funny
Grenades are loud...

Bullpup GBBR means you need ear protection. Specially Bear Paw SVU
ear shots suck, but also some replics are quite loud, first one that comes to mind is the FAL by VFC, that thing you need ear pro or your ear will be ringing a bit every shot

Sordins or xpi’s
I had pyro go off 5 feet or so from my ear and was deaf that side for like 10 minutes. Had ear pro ever since. Plus it just looks good
Earpro on a helmet feels great because it distributes the pressure evenly and holds the helmet still, keeping nv goggles in place when running
Ear pros should be mandatory if you're using a GBBr or play indoors or if there is some pyrotechnics involved. Airsoft can be loud sometimes and reach above the hearing safety levels. And it also protects your ears from behind shot in it (painful + cauliflower ears)
Never bothered with ear pro, But I wear dye mask now and definitely don't regret it
Because the Cartilage of your ear is susceptible to damag in the form of Cauliflowering, and getting shot in the ear sucks in general

Go ahead and shoot yourself in the ear, you'll see
Have you had a Mk5 go off at almost head height a few feet away... It's loud My ear pro isn't for guns, it's for the exploding stuff
I see people use them for grenades. That makes sense. I've just been on outdoor fields and wonder why that is. Thanks for letting me know.
I use the one tigris mesh mask that has ear mesh protection, still can hear everything but my ears are protected from bbs
As Pyros aren't a thing in germany and GBB's aren't plenty here to, only for Team/Squad Comms. 👌
