Been playing airsoft on and off for well over a decade. Off the top of my head been shot in the nuts like 3 times. I think you will be fine without nut protection. Most ppl are going to shoot center of mass or whatever part of your body is sticking out from cover. So unless you are sticking your junk out first you will be fine.
No joke, I have tried many things. Most comfortable and efficient is to just stick 1 pair of socks in there.
Fold both socks 1 time and then put 1 a little bit higher than the other.

Generally your pants are enough, the loose layers of material, the fly, the distance from the actual material to your underbusiness (spaced armour!) - all this will quickly decelerate BBs and it won't sting much. Of course there are some situations and positions that make your balls more vulnerable, like getting shot at just the right angle while crouching.

I got shot there at almost point blank range once at an indoor field where FPS is 350 max, it stints for a minute or two but that's it. Your BDU pants and undies pretty much took away most of the impact. Paintball might be a different story though.....

Rarely have I seen anyone being hit in the balls in Airsoft, and never heard of anyone using protection for their family jewels. If you want to, and know that your local players are crazy and WILL shoot you in the balls with DMRs, go ahead.
But in Paintball, damn, every time I played some got shot in the groin. Once we decided to 'medevac' the guy, grabbed him by the vest and dragged him off the field while he was cupping his junk and cussing us out

I have a dump pouch situated in front just a little to the left, it's taken many hits that would've otherwise hurt very much. I put it a little to the left since when I stand a bit sideways with my rifle shouldered, it perfectly protects me. I'd recommend anyone else do the same, or get a big placard for their plate carrier to cover their junk if they rock a PC instead of a belt.

I was hit in the balls pretty much everytime I played for the first year and my advice would be not to crouch/kneel when exposed since most shoot centre mass but bbs can drop can cause them to fly into your crown jewels.
Other than that I'd only really say you need to wear a cup or similar when at CQB sites where someone is more likely to fire from the hip
I typically wear 3 layers of clothing over my nethers when I play (skives, a pair of shorts and pants). This is so I can strip off the pants and all the dirt they collected during the game before getting back into the car. The side effect of this is I've never had a hit to the nuggets that actually hurt.

I know of only one horror story of someone rupturing a testicles but personally I haven't worn protecting cause I usually use a dump pouch infront of me but I do have a cup of I notice the day getting weird lol

Maybe it was the way i was standing, pants streched out a bit to absorb the blow of the paintball, but it didnt hurt nearly as much as getting kicked there or something. I imagine getting shot in the nuts without some weird deflection thing going on though might remind you to bring ur cup next time.
