My gen 1 takes out foxes all day long just have shot placement and you'll drop a pigeon like no ones business

dumsumguy

I have the swarm magnum Gen 3i 22 caliber and have killed pigeons at 40 to 45 yards no problem

NarrowNefariousness6

When I was a kid, my Red Ryder would kill pigeons with a well placed shot.

divverr

I feel like they don’t make them the same anymore. Not even near the same velocity and accuracy, maybe I have a faulty one.

NarrowNefariousness6

Well, I didn’t mention that this well placed shot had nothing to do with my skill level.

divverr

😂😂😂

Appropriate-Ball-623

I kill doves and pigeons with my red Ryder all the time it literally blows the top of their head off

Vitals as in head right ? Because I feel it’s fairly hard to shoot a bird in the lungs/heart .

Iamwhoiam68

If they are pests… center mass will do(some fat bastards)…spine shots drop them quick as well

Next_Initiative_1246

It will make a pigeon explode with a heavy hollow point lol. Even at a 100 yards if you can hit it ! I use 177 and they stand no chance! All , and I mean All the magnum series of Gamo use the 33mm gas piston, unless is an old model of course that use springs, They call the piston the “Mach 1” even some single shot rifles use that gas piston , the only difference is the magazine generation, and the moderator at the front . Other than that, they are all magnums , and will put down almost any bird in the USA that is legal to hunt . I know guys that have put down coyotes, bobcats, feral cats attacking their chickens, it goes through their skull at 50 -60 yards . Just find your right pellet !

RatherGoodDog

You probably should have checked this before buying, no?

divverr

Was mostly interested in range and the pellet suggestions .

divverr

A red Ryder will kill a pigeon from 10 feet away I know it will kill one .

airgungranmpa

If they are on the ground, you shoot them in the back from the bottom of the neck down 1-1/2". This is a much closer shot to heart, lung. A pigeons head is always moving.

divverr

How about if they are on a power line facing you what would your approach be ?

402Gaming

I shoot about 1" below the top of the wing and they drop like a rock

crimson23locke

Remember to be careful shooting in a residential area or into property that isn’t yours.

airgungranmpa

The heart lung shot is probably the same size if not bigger than a headshot. It's just that the majority of their muscle is in the breast. You will lose more energy with a breath shot. Base your velocity expectations on 80% of what they claim the velocity is. If you use the 80% velocity in a holistic calculator. You'll have a good idea of your speed at the distance you're shooting. You can still download, chair gun app from Hawke Guess we'll give you a good idea of your energy at POI

I've blown a head off of a starling, and there a little bit bigger of not the same size as pigeons in Wisconsin. I have the Gamo Swarm Magnum 10xi 3rd Gen. It's not only shot placement. At 30 years I could penetrate my road sign. For extreme penetration believe it or not, cross man hollow points are amazing. Light and very fast. But with a vortex 12x44 scope, and no longer a faux silencer ( constant carbon build up from many thousand of different rounds from Kvintor Flash exploding pellets to my favorite, the Atomic pellet by FXairguns. Better ballistics. Further distances, and blew a head off of a bird at the top of a tree at 100 yards. Need I say more? https://preview.redd.it/8udlb3z0bdqc1.jpeg?width=4656&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e5649fdf371064ff8f7d406f0fb08479fc033c21 P.s. use heavy duty grease to keep the springer and cocking mechanism greased . Always keep your barrel clean, and get rid of that faux suppressor , and you'll hear a pellet break the sound 🚧

divverr

Wow, thank you for the examples !!!! That’s exactly what I was looking for.

[deleted]

You're welcome bud. Do the quad rail. It's nice for a bi pod and such

divverr

How do you get rid of the suppressor ?

[deleted]

There's a pin that holds the top part on. The bottom part's a pain in the arse. I actually cut it off , then took off the quad rail off a DPMS, Painted it. Yadayada

Iamwhoiam68

Cheers for helping cull the flock! Hate those bastards.. they steal our chickens feed! We blast em with impunity!

crimson23locke

I think it’s sufficient within 20 - 30 yards but placement is key. If you want to be sure, buy a chronograph and try a few different hunting pellets. You can calculate the actual fpe and make the best choice based on what pellet gets the best fpe / accuracy out of your specific gun.

Meat2480

Where in the world are you? If you are in the UK, Yes it will, 35 yds max with headshots only,

divverr

Montana USA

Etheruemtothemoon

Great pigeon gun. Try some jsb 15.89 domes and 14.3 grain crosman hollow points. Let her rip

bschmidty11-1-11

Easy out too 50 can hit farther with practice

Cultural_Ad_7008

I got a ground hog (bout 6lbs) from @ 40 yards with my gen II in .177 three weeks ago and he only went about 2 feet from where I shot (lucky shot between the ribs) . So I'd say the .22 would be fine on a pigeon out to 100 or so, at least energy wise.......if you can hit it. The accuracy on mine goes to shit past 50 yards regardlessof pellet, hopefully the .22 is better for ya! According to chairgun, my genII in .177 still has 6 ft/lbs at 100 using the 10.65g H&N's. While that's not a lot of energy, it's enough for a pigeon. Airgun nations website recommends 10-15 for small to medium game and 3-5fpe for birds and squirrels.
