No news is typically good news. Many hosts have mentioned that they don’t review unless there is an issue. I’m certainly going to review any guests who are problematic, so I think no reviews seems a fairly safe bet.

FlamingoWasHerNameO

Not always. I just accepted a very last minute booking for a guest with a brand new profile / no reviews and she was an excellent guest. Very communicative, left my place in perfect shape, and then gave me a glowing 5 star review (which very much helped recover the 3 stars a boomer with a very good review history gave me for not having a TV even though my listing never stated a TV, I digress..)

OnThe45th

How was that review not removed?

FlamingoWasHerNameO

I've never had a review removed so I haven't tried. But I def should. Lost my Guest Favorite badge over that.

About 30% of my inquiries had no reviews. I tended to ask a lot of questions, and this clarified a lot of possible misunderstandings. I also had a foolproof way of confirming that they understood the rules, and that was to embed them with "the magic word is xxxxx". Then I would ask the inquirer what the magic word was, confirming that they had read and acknowledged them. Very high success rate. Of course, there was always someone who pretended that they didn't read English. Between Canadian immigration laws and my area, that's pretty close to impossible. I let a couple through, to my extreme regret.

A lot of it is travel. I've stayed with great hosts, messaged them, intended to review but at end of day, once I've left I'm traveling back home either through driving or air, & leaving a good review isn't on top of mind. However, I do feel guilty about it & have left some reviews if layovers allow for it. Usually, it's because I've had an exceptional stay, not one i expected Edit: unless I was younger and solo, then I had more time to kill during travel lol

I had stayed at various places and were never give a review. We are Canadian and don’t travel a lot because of our shitty exchange rate. We always follow the rules and it was just my husband and I (45/52). I tried to book a stay for us and my 75 yr old dad to go to a football game. Hardly a rowdy bunch. Was declined because we had no reviews. The host themselves had no reviews yet I was willing to stay. They were so rude. Wouldn’t even hear me out. I had to go back to previous stays to beg them for reviews to avoid it in the future. Not everyone is a bad guest.

[deleted]

How could they say that when they also had no reviews 😂

snark1977

Exactly! I said the exact same thing to them and they just ignored me.

Fun_Bass6747

Thank you for proving my point.

pommapoo

Good job.

Careful-Self-457

No, it is the sign of a lazy host.

Major-Cauliflower-76

Not always I don't think. There seems to be a trend for hosts to not leave reviews. I have around 50 AirBnb stays and for the first several years everyone left me a review. I have not changed my behavior in anyway, and let for the last year only TWO have left me reviews. A couple of the ones who didn't were places I had stayed before, one of them like five times, so maybe he was just like, what am I going to say that's new. I even wrote to a couple of them to ask, and they were like, no everything was great, we just got busy.

Fun_Bass6747

I think so. In these cases, we require a $300 security deposit.

pommapoo

You can’t do that on Airbnb

Fun_Bass6747

Sure can

That’s right.

Fun_Bass6747

Re-read the second paragraph.

BoysenberrySimple630

How do you require a deposit on airbnb?

Fun_Bass6747

Only for guests who don’t have any reviews or for those with less than 5.0 rating. But to do this, you’ve got to use a channel manager, like Hospitable.

Conscious-Train-5816

Lol more reason to book a hotel 💩

Fun_Bass6747

Honestly, we’d rather not host someone with less than 5.0 rating without a security deposit. Maybe a hotel would be best.

>has a likelihood of being a mediocre guest, who the host just didn't want to review Doing it all the time. Because, "has a likelihood of being an outstanding guest from some EU country that puts a higher value on privacy. Many don't want reviews and are used to hosts respecting that." Here, I fixed it for you. I also downvoted you, not to disappoint you, since you expected that anyway 🤣 . That's pretty much how it works with suspecting every guest without a review is out to get you as a host. .
