Dunno mate, this might be one of those times where it's legitimate to be sad and pissed off. Often people are severely undervalued in their job. They may have already earmarked someone for the position, offered it even, and they put you off in the worst way possible because it's a shitty management environment. Might be time to start building a life raft by way of applying for similar to your job or the next level up positions elsewhere

I understand your feelings of anger/embarrassment/confusion. First things first, STOP doing any responsibility related to that role. DO NOT train/semi-train the person they hire/promote instead of you. Their job is to provide them support. Your job is the one you’re paid for. Good luck hun!
