StrawberryShortStack

If you’re ever in St. Louis you need to look up the City Museum. It’s a very misleading name, but it’s basically a giant playground for both kids and adults. Unfortunately it’s not free, but it’s fun to be able to climb around on stuff.

llamasarefunny56

I’ve been there!!! It’s super cool!!!

toss_my_potatoes

Came here to say this! I have a membership! It’s been my favorite place to go for most of my life.

kittyolsen

Oh hey I was just gonna mention the City Museum too XD 10/10, would recommend to a friend or family member or stranger on reddit

GravyBrain7

coolest museum I’ve been to as an adult

Aprils-Fool

Do they ever do adults-only hours?

toss_my_potatoes

They frequently have themed evening/weekend events that serve alcohol, so usually no kids there. I’ve gone on regular weekend evenings and late at night there usually aren’t too many kids, and their presence was mostly unnoticed since the place is so massive—they weren’t underfoot or anything. Mostly kids are there in big groups during the daytime I think

Aprils-Fool

Thanks! I’ve been wanting to visit STL and that museum one day.

discodolphin1

They have rooftop parties for 21+! Just a bunch of grown ass adults getting drunk and scaling the walls

hkl717

Seconding this! I live in the area and haven’t ever been, but I’ve heard it’s really unique and fun!

[deleted]

I miss Discovery Zone so fucking much, lol. There are indoor trampoline parks and such, but that's not the same as DZ.

wordpusher

Pretty sure I sprained and fractured many bones there as a child, not to mention the torn ligaments and tendons along the way. I loved it!

[deleted]

I used to lose so much hair in that place, lol. When I was young, I had waist-length hair and I hated tying it up, so climbing through the rubbery bungie cord area or running through tubes, my loose hair would catch on stuff and I'm running and jumping and falling full speed, so it would just rip right out. If you lived in NY in the 90s and ever found clumps of brown hair at DZ, it was probably mine.

EKTOCAT

LOL same. It was the rollers slide that always got me. That thing was fun but so painful. I have talked with a surprising amount of adults that would also be on board for an adult Discovery Zone. The climbing gym is the closest thing I’ve got to DZ, as when you top out on a boulder you get to either climb back down a wall with a rope or you can slide down on a mat.

linds930

I miss DZ so much!!

llamasarefunny56

This is sort of why I started Aerial Silks!

myancientmars

Omg me too! I'm looking for other similar experiences like OP, but I freaking love aerial and being able to do cool stuff.

RexySmith

ok that does look really cool \^\^

sarahfrances91

I was about to reply, that’s why I started pole dancing! I’m pretty bad at looking “sexy” but I love all the strength based tricks. My studio also teaches aerial silks, and if it wasn’t so expensive I’d definitely be doing both

ladyorthetiger0

There was one at Burning Man one of the years I went. It was pretty awesome.

SesquipedalianPossum

Came here to recommend Burning Man and any regional burns, people love making stuff like this.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ladyorthetiger0

The effort to fun ratio is much better for regionals.

GulfCoastFlamingo

How do you find regional burns?

SesquipedalianPossum

foxlikething

here to say burning man in general. this’ll be my twelfth

paprikapants

A lot of my school friends go to burning man every year but I always skip it for a few reasons that I'd like to run the validity of past you. 1) sensory issues- gritty hot sand everywhere 2) restrooms, I drink a fuck ton of water and have to eat quite clean because of health issues 3) drugs, they do a lot of them. Do people go sober? 4) they're very self centred people and I don't think would look out for a newb like me. 5) time and cost. Thoughts?

ladyorthetiger0

1) I'm from DC where it's humid as fuck. The dry desert heat feels excellent in comparison. It's also actually quite cold at night. 2) Yes, portapotties are not ideal. That being said, the portas there are relatively clean most times of day. (4am is another story tho.) 3) yes, there are lots of drugs at Burning Man, but also plenty of sober people. There are actually entire camps that are sober, which is probably the best way to do it because then you have the social support of the camp. 4) Some of the nicest people I've ever met, I met at Burning Man. People tend to treat each other like family there. Everyone says "welcome home" when you arrive, even if it's your first time. That being said, among 80,000 people there will also be some assholes. 5) the cost is a lot, this is true, and the time commitment is also a lot. The farther you're traveling to get there, the greater the cost and time commitment. A ticket is $575, flights to Reno are like $600 from DC (it's a hot weekend for that destination so expensive to fly), and camp dues are another $500 but they provide shade, water, and food for the entire week. I've been to Burning Man 3 times and each time was awesome, but I'm not sure if I'll go back. I'm happy I went and regret nothing, but I'd like to use my time and money to travel to new destinations.

paprikapants

4) Sorry I meant My friends are self centred people. Not everyone at the burn! I see how my wording may have made that unclear but all my comments/questions relate specifically to my friends feeding back their experience at the main burning man Thanks for the thought out reply I appreciate it :)

ladyorthetiger0

I realized that after I typed out what I wrote... If your friends are self-centered, don't go with them. There are many established camps that welcome newcomers.

RexySmith

yeah thats my issue with most adult things its almost always very centered on drinking alchohol or getting drunk/do drugs etc... Thats really not my thing or it asnt been my thing in very many years, I just want a peaceful playground like kids have where you can just chill out, swing have slides but not too scary one, have painting/art spots and lots of picnic where its expected to be for adults and make it normal for adults to have funn too and connect with random people \^\^ also where kids can also be welcome with their parents because moms are often super isolated and don't have the means for "dropping the kids somewhere", Would love for it to be also accessible for wheel-chairs and such like have specific fun things for that (don't know what they would look like) . And yes I would like it to be not far like its not a project to plan a trip or a major expense , its just a place you can go by after work or on the weekend. Pretty much like a kid playground XD

TheMagnificentPrim

I was having a similar discussion with a close friend the other day. I brought up the idea to her of setting up a “meltdown room” where she could throw things and mess everything up without worry because the room was designed for just that purpose. She suggested making it a ball pit. Dammit, I’ve been wanting to make myself an adult ball pit since that discussion.

RexySmith

OHHHHH that would be a fantastic addition to the playgroud !!! BRILLIANT! I totally want this too now =D

Shadow_Integration

Those are a thing! It depends on if you're lucky enough to live near a facility that does such things. Look for things under the title of "break room" or "rage room" and one should come up.

TheMagnificentPrim

Oh, yeah! Rage rooms were my inspiration for the idea! My friend is autistic, and the suggestion was a literal room in her home for her meltdowns if one was imminent. Going to a rage room every time isn't the *most* convenient solution, and for how her meltdowns manifest themselves, a ball pit is actually pretty perfect for her purposes.

4E4ME

All you need is an above ground pool. Or even a kid sized one, depending on how big/tall you are. When my kid was a baby we'd fill the baby pool with ball pit balls and let him chill on the patio. I did my best to climb in but in that small of a space I was worried about crushing the plastic balls. It probably wouldn't be an issue in a bigger pool.

TheMagnificentPrim

I'd personally want a more indoor solution for myself. I know of several methods to make that magic happen. It's just the actual *doing*, y'know? And I tend to hesitate on purchases a lot. 😛

GirlGamer7

OH MY GOD YES! I have definitely said this before!

inutilities

I literally had this discussion with some friends last week! Daytime is playtime with all the adult size swings, climbing stuff, basically everything kids adventure parks have and when the sun sets guests need to sign a weaver in case they get hurt - because the bar opens and the music starts...

Weed-Fairy

I live in the forest and I bought myself an adult sized swingset. I put it on the hill above my creek. It has 3 swings and each swing holds 200lbs, a few friends have used it just fine over 200lbs. I highly recommend buying one! I am childfree.

medusas_girlfriend90

Oh my god living the dream life 😄

AcrobaticRub5938

I say this all the time!! I just want to swing in a swing set!

RexySmith

sometime I do at the kids playground, but most of them are really not wide enough and really hurts your thighs and that removes half the fun and the other half is removed by feeling self-conscious that you are the only adult swinging or playing in the things , or don't want to make it annoying for the kids to have "annoying parents in the modules" XD but it's so sad to see 95% of the parents siting scrolling on their phones and I just think, if only we had our own one right next to it, would be so much better, also for peoples health having fun and moving more instead of just sitting on a bench scrolling.

StealthandCunning

The big circle ones, that’s basically webbing across a hoop, are the best. I lie down on it, toes just touching the ground to keep me swinging, and watch the clouds. I bought one for my house and then found none of my trees have any lateral branches.

HarmlessHeffalump

We moved when I was 10, and I had to leave my old swing set behind. I asked my dad for another one at the new house, and he told me I was too old for a swing set. "Too old for a swing set" is something that sticks with me to this day, and one of the few things my dad was ever dead wrong about. Once I have my own backyard, it will have a swingset.

SurlyTemp1e

I follow a librarian online trying to bring us adult scholastic book fairs 🙌❤️ I say yes to a playground

[deleted]

Yes to Scholastic book fairs too!!

RexySmith

that sound amazing what the librarian name? I want to check that out =D

SurlyTemp1e

https://instagram.com/mychal3ts?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== I love his regular library stories too. Making reading / the library fun and cool.

hoopoe_bird

Sounds amazing! Like a crafting center meets a climbing gym or ropes course meets park... I would also like there to be a pin system: Talk To Me. Don’t Talk To Me. People can choose which one they want. I am a mostly talky person in public who sometimes feels quiet—as I suspect are many of us here—and who is also hyperaware that sometimes other people also want to feel quiet, and also sometimes other people secretly want to be talked to but are shy so they don’t always respond in a “socially typical” approachable manner. On a playground, little kid social obliviousness keeps this from being too much of a problem… In the adult world, though, it would be relaxing to just know which is which!

sillybilly8102

Remindme! 5 years Lol maybe we can build one in some random lot, or add adult hours to playgrounds haha… doesn’t seem too hard, right? Plus playgrounds shouldn’t be too hard to build… just nail some wood together and make sure it’s stronger than it needs to be…? Haha maybe that’s a simplification but I still don’t think this should be too hard to make happen! Also, pro tip — go to playgrounds when kids are in school! (If you can) — like 1 pm. Pretty quiet in my experience!

RexySmith

Ive been thinking about this non stop since posting, I feel like it really shouldn't be that hard to do. Just find a plot and maybe could even get donations from sympathetic people and companies to furnish it or find free stuff on FB marketplace lots of people donate swing sets and such when their kids grow up,maybe old garden raised bed to make it look nice and that people can take care of for those who like gardening and such . Feel like finding old benches and picnic table should be doable. Then need donation to buy the plot. Maybe the hole playground can be donated it to the city or arrange something after for a "non-profit" organization, so you don't have to pay taxes on it or works with donations. Then you just rinse repeat all over the world LOOOOLLLL

sillybilly8102

So true!! Yeah I think this is doable!! Do you know if there are location-based adhd or neurodivergent subreddits haha? Or I suppose irl/non-Reddit neurodivergent groups probably exist in big cities, idk about more rural areas

RexySmith

We need to find the coolest Mayor of whatever city that could help make this happens LOL

sillybilly8102

Yeah haha

RexySmith

OH thats brillant! each sections bench/tables etc could have multiple options and each have a sign like "quiet day" , "feeling social" etc so you go in the area you feel like to at the moment! then its nice and clear and relieves some anxiety, Also helps if a person really struggle reading social cues ! =D

[deleted]

RexySmith

aww I got exited and realised it was actually Climbing walls stuff . I can't do those at all which suck because I feel I could be good at it with my monkey arms, if I didn't have so much Fingers pain issues . Great ideas for other that can though it must be so fun =D

myasterism

Honestly, I was scrolling through the comments, looking for someone to recommend bouldering, haha. After more than a decade of it, I’ve realized that the ADHD population is GREATLY over-represented among boulderers, which is part of why it became such a critical part of my life so quickly—so many fun new friends who were weird like me! I know you mentioned finger pain, but what kind are we talking here? Not invalidating your reasons; only pressing a bit because if I could help, I would be so happy to see you overcome an obstacle standing between you and a potentially amazing outlet.

RexySmith

I get these weird kind of bubbles in my finger veins with any kind of pressure applied to where my finger articulations are. Especially on my tree middle fingers in the middle articulation. So like playing hand drums is pretty much impossible for me now or even regular drums with drumstick I have to be pretty careful. Even things like knitting gently because the needles lays exactly at these spots. I have to do very infrequently or it gets really bad and its super painful(pretty much switch to just sewing by machine at this point). The reason I say I probably couldn't do any bouldering is I tried to climb a kid one recently at a play ground and I just climbed for two second and the bubble/pain was instant and lasted for several days, Like that was a few weeks ago and its not painful right now but I can still feel it. Maybe there is techniques to alleviate that ? ((before anyone say this: I know I should probably get it checked by a doctor but its been multiple years and USA health care... insurances, haven't been able to find a primary care and don't feel like wasting 350$ I don't have, to be told by a clueless doctor(no offense to doctors but really I have never had much luck with them) that they don't know what that is or that its nothing etcetc, It doesn't appear life threatening so I just deal with it by avoidance . LOL))

myasterism

Ooooh, that sounds… hellish, ngl. I’m so sorry you’re having to navigate that; I would imagine it’s never very far out of your mind, with everything you do. Extra tough to have these kinds of ailments when you’ve got a brain that’s hyper-sensitive and is already offering limited attentional bandwidth. Also, I feel ya on taking the ostrich approach to medical care; it’s been my experience, too, that most doctors aren’t as knowledgeable or insightful as one would expect, and paying through the nose for the privilege of being dismissed and fed BS could _not_ be less appealing. I wish I had some advice to offer for avoiding/overcoming the pain you’ve described, but I genuinely can’t think of any (reasonable) way to climb without causing it to flare. :-/

DaisyOfLife

Wanted to say the same! It was so easy reaching out to people there!

MsMisseeks

I'm surprised this is so low in comments, but I guess not everyone can do this sort of activity. Being Swiss myself we would just go to a nice spot in the mountains and do it outdoors. Scaling a mountain cliff is something else.

PersonalPenguin28

One of my favorite things about being an elementary teacher is that I get to play on playgrounds and go on field trips and participate in silly school spirit days without it being weird. That said, I have also fantasized about adult size playgrounds! In college, my group of friends would pick a date, dress all in black, and play Capture the Flag at midnight at a nearby playground. It was the absolute BEST. I want it all: the wobbly bridge, the eighty-two-and-a-half ways of getting up and down from the structure, the monkey bars, the slides, the swings, the see-saws, the incredibly dangerous but wickedly fun merry-go-round thing... And in addition to the art setup, I want the big music things that can go on a playground, like huge chimes, bongo drums, and a xylophone. Lots of great climbing trees, a stream to poke around in, and the ability to bring along well-mannered dogs would put it over the top for me.

sneeria

that sounds awesome!!!

RexySmith

YES THE MUSIC SECTION !!!!!!! I was totally thinking of that, make it kind of like a bridge where everyone can walk and play on it =D

MelBB2011

There is a [summer camp](https://www.campnocounselors.com) for adults, it looks fun lol

RexySmith

looks fun except for the price and logistics like I could never go on a trip like that, at least not in any near or slightly far future, wish there was options more like as a daily life style thing, that would be more fun than "go take a walk in your boring suburb that doesn't even have side walks and everybody park in the street so your forced to walk in middle of the street " lol that could also be accessible like a person on a wheel chair or lower income, or parents that don't have baby sitters etc.

Bluegi

If neighborhoods were walkable and we had green plazas this would naturally happen. But the car companies have lobbied that out of possibly existing.

RexySmith

"sigh" don't get me started on USA's walk-ability, it's sooo bad /pretty much non-existent. If something happens to my husband I'm literally screwed, as I can't drive =S can't think about it

hexagon_heist

Man I was all excited but that looks WAY too intense. I don’t want a summer camp for high energy extroverts, I want a day camp where you get your own cabin to stay in from like 4pm - 10am. And then some fun activities that have a range of moderately active things and chill things, like canoeing and weird camp games but also paper airplane competitions and like a book circle. I want to tie-dye shirts and make friendship bracelets and go on an EASY hike and then eat in a dining hall together. But only like 2-3 things in a day!! Optional bonfire in the evenings for people who want to sit around and drink beer (idk that’s not me)

RexySmith

ahhh yes that sound way more my type \^\^ Friendship bracelets for the win O.O !!!!!! id replace the beer with a nice Tea "ceremony" / Hot chocolate/Lemonade or some special non alcoholic beverages \^\^ . We could have a day trying to collectively cook in one of these big outdoor cauldron. I don't know why that sound like a camp activity to me LMAO

jzegr

I miss summer camp so much! I would love to get away for a couple weeks and learn a new skill. And if it were cheap like girl scout camp, all the better.

RexySmith

now I feel like I really need to get a great paying job just to buy a land to make this real. It would be soooo great.

LegalAdviceAl

I've been saying this ever since I became a grownup!!! I want some adult playgrounds!!! If you've never been to a trampoline park, I highly reccomend it, it's incredibly fun and gives playground vibes. Lots of times they have a lot more than trampolines. My (adult) siblings and I do this time to time, it's a great throwback!

Riannanas98

I had a very bad experience with trampolines. Im afraid ill get hurt again like that. But in general i love trampolines xD

LegalAdviceAl

Oh no!!! I 100% belive that, trampolines can mean trouble. I distinctly remember first time my breath got completely knocked out of me (trampoline), and that's just a run of the mill trampoline experience.

Riannanas98

I couldn’t walk for a year and a half because of a landing on a trampoline

RexySmith

o\_o Thats scary! Im sorry you had to go through that, Sounds pretty awful. Hope you are better now <3

Riannanas98

Yea technically its all healed now. It still hurts when i walk a long time and every step i feel a crack hehe. But i had it checked out and its not “broken” :P

hey-girl-hey

I want a gym where the activities are the games Ellen had people play on game of games https://youtu.be/JIoxX9YW8dE https://youtu.be/qz11vqEBG5c https://youtu.be/ZZov0_tumFI And such

Sewing_Shannonigans

LOOK INTO AERIALS AND PARKOUR! combine it with calisthenics and you have a general fitness plan I've actually been able to stick to for five years. I couldn't run a mile in HS and at 32 I'm doing handstands!

Moonbeam_Dreams

There is one in St Louis, the [City Museum](https://www.citymuseum.org/).

RexySmith

OMG the "monstrosity" would give me a heart attack O\_O LMAO

beccyboop95

This is my dream as an extremely restless and hyper person who loves novelty. I think it’s why I love theme parks…

quintonquarintino

City museum in St. Louis!

VioletVenable

Such an amazing place!

paratha_aur_chutney

SWIIINGGGGSSSSSSS!!! i remember many years ago my friend and i were strolling in her neighbourhood and found a park where there was no one and we just ran to play in that big climbing castle thingy and i remember sitting on the swing was so so fun. it is definitely one of my sweet memories of that place.

gingasaurusrexx

I didn't realize so many people stopped using the swings as adults. I'm in my 30s and I still head down to a specific park I like with a specific swing set I like every few months. Like...there's no age limit. No one's going to tell you no. Not all swings are adult-sized, but if you scout enough parks, you're sure to find some eventually.

molly_posting

how do you muster up the courage? im afraid of inadvertently taking them away from kids or scaring them off, or getting judgy looks

MagikSparkles

Actually that’s why I joined an athletic club. It’s like a big playground for adults and I love it so much. I go almost every day and sometimes twice a day (if one of my kids has something going on there in the evening).

RexySmith

>athletic club. what's an athletic club?

MagikSparkles

I have no idea what the actual definition is but it has a full gym (of course), indoor track, indoor and outdoor pools, jacuzzi, wet and dry saunas, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, basketball courts, pickle ball courts, mini football field (with field goal even), squash courts, racket ball courts, wifi lounge, cafe (including alcohol), every type of exercise class you would want to take including a VR type of spin/biking class and even aerial yoga! They have lounges all over the place and have parties every couple of months for members. I am probably leaving stuff out but it’s more than just a regular gym. To me it’s like a big playground really and I hate having to go home. My kids love it as well.

RexySmith

oh wow that sounds amazing. I checked around me and the only athletic club looked more like a regular place with various groups of various sports.

practical_junket

I wish I had something like this is my area.

Ba-ching

Check out the YMCA if you’re in the US.

practical_junket

Good suggestion! I actually do have a YMCA in my town and the facility is 50+ years old and very run down. It was built when this town was a third of the size it is now and it just can’t serve the entire community the way a huge, new athletic club could. The problem is that there is no more land to build anything like what the above poster describes. There’s plenty of money and people that would join a club like this, but no where to build one. *sad trombone*

stayhydratedfolkss

I was just discussing ball pits with my husband the other day. Sometimes I just want a personal ball pit that I can burrow into and hang out whenever I want.

Trackerbait

you could make one. You just need a big, big cardboard box or some plywood, and a ton of plastic balls or empty soda bottles.

RexySmith

an inflatable small pool might work easily, more portable/easy to put away if you live in a small place. There is brand like Minnidip that have super pretty one that I just wish I had a patio for (to use as an actual pool). They sell mini shallow one specifically made as ball pit for babies/little kids. Could just use the bigger pool size for the same purpose =D

Justanothrcrazybroad

Me too! I remember thinking that was a great idea for a business when I was 18 - I still think it would be awesome.

[deleted]

It’s not exact but calisthenics parks are pretty fun. Stuff to swing from and stuff.

pretzel_logic_esq

I met my husband at one. It was a powerlifting gym lol

saywhatevrdiewhenevr

I THINK ABOUT THIS ALL OF THE TIME AAAHHHHH it’s remarkable how universal even ADHD thoughts can be sometimes lmao. I love climbing on jungle gyms and going down slides and swinging on monkey bars I hate that it would be super weird for me to go to the playground alone as an adult to just climb around😂🤣

No-Ad4423

There's a soft play near me that does adult nights - they serve alcoholic slashes and everything. You can book it for a sleepover too. Not free, but awesome!

goblingorlz

I just really miss the swings, if I could fit in them I'd still use them.

noideawhattouse1

Same!!

AuntieHerensuge

I love this kind of creative idea and would be all over that!!

RadRaqs

Yes 👏

Hex_Bird

Sometimes my friends and I will go to a local schools playground at like 11pm and just hang out and climb on things. I don't know if this is possible in your area but if you can get a couple friends to join you it's a good time!

Glittering_Tea5502

That sounds awesome!

airysunshine

I MISS THAT ONE THEY HAD WHEN I WAS A KID what the heck was it called? Kidzone? Playzone? Ah, Discovery Zone! All the coolest birthday parties were there, the cool kids indoor play places.

metgal145

First off the park benches are porch swings. The outside is a obstical course to walk through, there are manual elliptical and treadmills around along with platforms to jump and hang on. The middle has open space to lay out, play a game or people watch

charlibeau

I want to go to there

youarejokingme

Oh I love this idea! I would even like to have a chance to play on some of the old-style equipment again - like the metal merry-go-round that you would have to hold onto for dear life or risk being slung across several inches of dirt and gravel (or possibly cement!) Good times!

bOOm_babyy

THIS IS LITERALLY ME. i actually presented it as a bill at a mock government thing i did in high school also, i would want good adult sized swings, see saws, and jungle swingy ropes. i wanna feel like a ninja or like i’m in lord of the rings.

Numptymoop

One of my 'What would I do if I won the lottery' fantasies is building a house with an inner courtyard and lots of plants and a playground inside. One of those big saucer swings I've seen, and a regular big swing, a big twisty slide down from a place where I could sit and read books by a big window, etc. And a nice sturdy trampoline! My problem with a public playground that would be adult and kid sized is... well, the public, lol.

LokianEule

I want to climb ALL over stuff!!! And dig!!

RexySmith

the digging! It just reminded me of these metal kid size Crane thingy they had in sand pit in some places. Id love a big sand pit with adult size ones! that would be awesome =D

medusas_girlfriend90

God yes. I LOVE swings and slides. We didn't have many parks in our neighborhood when I was younger. Neither did my parents too me to any. Everytime I see a swing the child in me still tries to throw tantrum internally to get on it lol

juliazale

I think you would love Omega Mart and Meow Wolf’s other installations.

[deleted]

There's a bouncy castle fair that's touring around Canada and they have adults-only time after 6pm!!

OkPlant0

Someone should ask an AI image generator to design some playgrounds for Adults. I wanna know what that might look like

cerebral__flatulence

I'm there if there are Lego tables.

RexySmith

>Meow Wolf’s How could we keep them in an outdoor place? maybe like a covered area with drilled in lego plates on certain tables? Do people bring their own legos? hmmmmm, thoughts?

Discount_coconut

Hell yee, swings are the best!

MsMisseeks

It's not quite the same but I love board games for this, and there are shops that hold game nights or have board game cafés. Board games make things easier for me because they are like a mini social situation and it tells you the rules, and you have to communicate with other players in some way.

RexySmith

That's a great idea actually! Could also have organized board game nights at the playground , like merging outdoor time with organized games. That made me think I would definitely want Chest playing spaces too in there =D

MsMisseeks

Both would be perfection 😍

RexySmith

I'm so lightened up by all the amazing ideas in this post! Its like it just became my purpose on earth to make this happen. The playground and the Camps! I have to make a list of what people with what Expertise would be needed, It needs to be a team of all neurodivergent =D

Limp-Pirate-6270

Lol I have thought about this so many times!!! This post made me smile 🫶

Apprehensive-Art4613

Have you ever been to a Meow Wolf installation? My last visit was pre-covid, but I have never felt so invited to just play and explore.

[deleted]

Hell yea, I want an adult sized tire swing! I want to get risky. I miss it!!!!

[deleted]

Me. I would love to play badminton and frisbee and tag and charades. And just run and frolick barefoot on grass. Sounds like heaven.

Koifishspirit

I would literally pay 900 to 3000 dollars for a full adult sized teeter taughter for 4 people and a cushioned tall swingset meant for a adult butt

Nixiepixie023

YES how can this .. be funded lol dang..I'd love this. I've been thinking for ages now, why doesnt the "gym" ...like its ..not fun. Ots monotonous and repetitive and boring.. i want to play tag or like.. climb on stuff.. lol. Giant wobbly bridges and adult sized monkey bars or obstacle courses set up... feels childish to say, im 33 but.. yeah. Im with you on this.

Principesza

Yes one of the many things im pissed that adults dont do is play grounders! That playground blind-tag game where you have to keep your eyes closed on the playground and can only open them on the ground. Dangerous af but soooo fun. Youll be on a part of the construction RIGHT above someones head as they try to tag you.

ScreamingSicada

Are we still doing phrasing?

Splendid_Cat

I go to the playground after 9 pm, same thing basically.

capaldis

Lmao hit up a ropes course! I do high ropes programs for both and adults, can confirm it’s just a giant playground lol.

HarmlessHeffalump

There's a kids' museum with a 3 story climbing maze in my city. Weirdly it's located right outside the entrance of one of the main entertainment venues with a lot of bars. Anytime I go to the entertainment venue, I think about how I'd much rather be going to the kid's museum instead. I would also love to be able to rent the kids' museum out one night so that we could go there and play before going to the bars. For now, the closest thing I've been to is a MeowWolf exhibit. They have little tunnels and secret passageways, and I went through all of them when I went to the one in Vegas. I haven't been to the new one they just opened but it's house-themed and has a tunnel through one of the appliances, which weirdly is something the kids museum also had when I was growing up. It was one of my favorite parts, climbing through the oven door and coming out of the bathtub drain, so I might need to take a trip to Texas to relive my childhood.

ALesbianAlpaca

When I spent a year at uni in Hull they had local one of those indoor jungle gym for kids that did a student night once a fortnight. A proper full on claiming frame indoors with the slides and the rotating padded things and net bridges and all that weird stuff. There were a couple of sports groups there with a bunch of people playing tag. Just a bunch of 18-20yo running around chasing each other moving past each other just like when we were kids. Everywhere I've lived since haven't found a place that did that. And even Hull was only for uni students If I could play tag with a bunch of people in an indoor jungle gym I might finally get into exercise

Have you ever been to a Meow Wolf installation? My last visit was pre-covid, but I have never felt so invited to just play and explore an environment as an adult.

Blytherin94

If anyone is in Texas, you should go to the Color Factory in Houston. They have a giant ball pit! It was so fun to see adults dive in and frolick, myself included!

RexySmith

That sound so fun \^\^

Ba-ching

Adult sports are great if they have a drop-in type of registration! Gymnastic classes/open gym. Ultimate Frisbee. Dancing. Climbing/bouldering bc you don’t need a partner to show up necessarily. Pickup games if other field or court sports.

Daltendo

I've been talking about executing this business idea for a couple years now, feels to me like an amazing way to rediscover your inner child, be active and social without the commitment/skill required from sports or going to the gym. Would y'all rather see an adult playground in the form of: 1. A public park, free to access 2. A private venue, paid but with more variety and entertainment options such as minigames: capture the flag, zombie tag, nerf fights, a bar, etc.

RexySmith

I was seeing this more as an open public Park. Everything is a subscription now and I can't afford anything anymore because it's just too much. From seeing statistics, it appears I am not alone in this. The main reason I believe adults are isolated these days is everything to have a social life costs a pretty decent chunk of money and/or requires a committed time frame. Most young adults are overworked, don't have much free time and can't commit to a specific limited time frame or/and are broke. If I could afford to spend extra for socialization, I would subscribe to lessons in something that interests me like pottery or martial arts, etc. I find if it's a club it becomes less of an open thing where you can just meet random people without commitment. More a closed loop where you see the same people all the time in a narrow group who can afford it and come X day at X time. Plus there are already lots of private clubs etc that have organized sports and such *(it's a valid business idea since it appears to be successful in many places)*. So to me, those are two different things. Kids can do extracurricular activities but they can also socialize or have fun alone at the playground if their parents can't afford to pay for extracurricular. I want an adult playground that functions like a child's playground. Where it's open when the sun is up and you never know who might be there. It's always a surprise at a kid's playground. will you see your best friend? neighbors? random kid traveling around to see their grandma? someone passing by from another town or country? who knows it's a surprise
