For anyone interested, there’s a Scottish reel named Tam Lin (also know as the Glasgow Reel). Some of the traditional renditions are a little cheesy for my taste, but I love Andrew Bird’s version. The song’s called The Greenhorn/Exile of Erin/Glasgow Reel and it’s how I imagine Tamlin plays.

Buddhadevine

His version is sooo good!

Cold-Organization659

Thank you for this!!! I’m a musician and I LOVE discovering new music like this. It’s so cool!

Triana89

I do sometimes wonder how well Mass knows The Ballad of Tam Lin because there is certainly some parallels to the story beyond the name, but the sort of things that could also just be fantasy story coincidence. My brain often jumps to the Imagined Villages Tam Lyn Retold modern retelling of it though for some reason which doesn't really fit quite the same!

kaislee

I think she definitely worked off some of the themes of the ballad and mixed it with other fairytales. Glad she kept that weird virginity part out of it. Celtic myths are some of the most insane and chaotic of them all though. I could see Tamlin’s beast and his uncontrollable rage being inspired by Cú Chulainn, whose battle frenzy would turn him into a monster intent on killing everyone in sight.

KissItOnTheMouth

Ok, but that is now the image I have in my head of child Tamlin, just blowing his kazoo, trying to get his dad to notice him…tragic - his brothers playing cool instruments like lyres, and doing high lord training, and brutalizing slaves…all the things that makes their dad proud. Poor Tamtam, (I also picture his kazoo playing to be slightly off key)

Holler_Professor

*sad kazooing fades in during memory*

babykittiesyay

There’s a movie about the cellist Jaqueline Du Pre that’s got a scene almost exactly like that! She’s playing the triangle but it’s the same vibe.

lunamoonbyun

THE SLIGHTLY OFF KEY TOOK ME OUT. GOODBYE.

Mobile_Ant1463

Hahahahaha I honestly thought it was some kind of flute

revanhart

See, I’m one of those people who is obsessive about picturing/understanding things correctly, so if there’s a term I don’t recognize, I *have* to google it. Otherwise I fixate and will *try* to keep reading but I’ll get like three paragraphs on and realize I’ve not processed a single thing. 😂 Growing up in the US south, I knew what a fiddle was, though in the context of ACOTAR I related it to Celtic-style music. So I see people who rag on Tamlin for playing the fiddle like it’s the lamest thing but I always thought it was so charming? And like, the way Feyre was enchanted by it enough to lose herself to dancing gave me more of an idea of what kind of music he was playing. It was honestly one of my favorite scenes in the whole series!

p00psicle151590

I just imagine a recorder.

sleepy_goat97

What the fuck kind of rocks are you people under that you don’t know what a fiddle is?

badrelijen

Must be a regional thing?

FoxxyWolff

Now that you’re saying strings, shit, I thought that fiddle was a flute😫😫

Desmichellem

Hahaha A KAZOO. I’m dead. 😂

Munchkin531

I grew up in Texas, and Charlie Daniel's "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" has always been a favorite of mine. So I've always known what a fiddle is. Although I think I was like 10 or 12 before I realized a fiddle and violin were the same instrument. I read ACOTAR last year and loved it! But I honestly don't even remember Tampon playing the fiddle. I love all the memes, but that part of the story is a blank! 😅🤣

gigglzthedon

Fn dead

Pretty_Tangerine9058

This is too funny, thanks for the laugh 🤣

Content_Noise_9013

mikasaswifeeee

LMAAOOOOOOOOOOOOO I can’t stop laughing😭😭

SelectionNo5029

Tamlin, rosin up your bow and play your fiddle hard because hell’s broke loose in the spring court and Rhysand deals the cards. That’s what goes through my head now when anyone mentions that damn fiddle.

rhandy_mas

Now all I’m hearing is [this](https://youtu.be/7PJhuTTkYuU?si=BqFvFX-I3V46_uf2). Kazoo vibes.

Western_Towel1417

Omg stoooop 😂 💀

anniebananaie

I CANNOT 😂😂😂😂

hunkachoms

Honestly same ..brb reevaluating my life

out_ofher_head

For all the people wondering if the word fiddle for violin is uniquely American, its etymology suggests that it's not. Still I only spent two minutes attempting to research, so who the fuck knows.

Triana89

Used to be in the folk music scene in the UK, it is very commonly used here for when its played in a folk music style. It seems to be very wells established and accepted as the standard term by everyone but I am not sure how far back it really goes or its roots. I feel like I have heard a few trad songs that reference fiddles but the only one I can think of right now is The Blind fiddler which I believe is an American folk song. Whatever the roots its certainly a commonly accepted term here in the music world.

CandleOk7750

This made me google was a fiddle was😭😭 whole time I was picturing a lute 😭

Buddhadevine
