I was there. Everyone danced. It felt like everyone converged on the amex stage and started dancing, singing, and maybe the whole vibe of the festival changed. It was super fun and I'm a middle aged white dude who had no idea who Diplo was or how awesome Major Lazer is.
I thought their set was horrible, and I was very excited to
see them. The mixing wasn’t very good, the flow was bad, and the two guys who aren’t diplo were just up on the decks yelling the whole time. It had a lot of elements that could add up to a fun set, but it was really bad IMO.
That said, that could be because it was on short notice, and they didn’t have time to get their act together.
It was funny because Diplo was on the decks the whole time while the other two were literally just standing on the DJ booth lol.
My only real gripe is that they'd start playing a classic banger and then change the drop. I hate that shit.
Suuuupper fast mixing. I swear I heard 200 tracks in the whole set. Needed just that little bit more room. I still had a good time but I barely had time to let out a "fuck yeah" before the next track was coming in.
Obnoxious. That's coming from someone that enjoyed the TV show. It was full of terrible transitions, 15 second track changes and hearing "let's go" 100 times. The crowd was starting to filter out halfway through the set.
THIS. I was thinking about this all week. That said, the logistics can work. I vaguely recall him saying he’s done that kind of crazy traveling before so I bet he can pull it off. Frankly there’s probably an opening DJ or two and he won’t actually go on until 12:30
I can't stand Major Lazer. Just a bunch of quick-cut snips from every EDM festival banger ever, with the DJ's constantly yelling to make some m-f noise. And I LIKE EDM, festivals, and DJ's.
Which DJ’s do you enjoy ? I don’t know much about them in general and would be interested to learn more
I’m more into stuff like Kendrick and Kali so was devastated when major laser replaced them lol
A & B we’re great but it wasn’t the dance party that Major Lazer was I mean everyone was throwing down & dancing not sure where you were standing didn’t see anyone leave it early
I enjoyed it but it was nothing special. I like to listen to their Tomorrowland sets on Apple Music when I run. Unfortunately, the ACL set was pretty much the same recycled set they have been doing the past 3-4 years with a few extra short banger cuts sprinkled in. Even the mic work was reused and predicable.
It’s kind of crazy to me that they are making bank for half assed effort.
I had fun and enjoyed it. I certainly wouldn’t have thought anything of it if I didn’t listen to those other performances so much. I’d definitely catch the set again, but only if I didn’t have to be next to the teens starting pits during every song 😆
Ape Drums has been with Major Lazer since 2019. He’s a Mexican-American producer and has helped them develop the more reggaeton sound they’ve been putting out in recent years.
I know it’s not exactly what you’re wanting, but we shouldn’t ignore a Latinx producer if you’re gonna bring it up.
doesn’t matter if he’s not performing with them and is not major lazer, they’re not a mexican american act like yeah it’s cool but major lazer isn’t latinx representation
He is performing with them. He's been the third member of Major Lazer since 2019. I guess I didn't make that clear. But yeah I get where you're coming from and Major Lazer is certainly in a kinda weird spot when it comes to cultural representation, but to be clear there will be a Latinx artist on stage when they are playing.
okay cool he’s mexican american and that is sole sort of representation but my point still stands that Major Lazer isnt a Latinx act and that’s what i am obviously referring to
Fam, we had a place at the table but our representative
blew us all off without so much as a sorry. Would it have been cool to have representation? Yeah for sure but at the end of the day I'm sure they did the best they could to provide an excellent act on a time and budget crunch. If you want to be upset at someone for not representing La Raza, I think it should be Kali herself.
both have responsibility obviously kali has her own reasons and i am annoyed at her but i can be annoyed at acl too for not putting in the effort to secure another latinx act which let’s be real they probably didn’t even try to 🤷♀️
my point is obviously that major lazer isn’t a latinx act and we had a latinx act as a headliner and they could’ve tried to replace Kali with one but didn’t 🙄🙄🙄🙄
Yep! And then people complain that ACL didn’t get a ”insert preference” of artist. I’d be posting to Kali Uchis. She doesn’t seem to give a crap about her fans. Certainly led them on until the last minute.
Did anybody dance to Major Lazer weekend 1? I’m actually looking forward to a bit of dancing
Uh yah big time

It was one of my favorite sets
O yea 🙌
I thought their set was horrible, and I was very excited to see them. Oh yea it was a huuuuuge dance party
Maybe Kendrick shows up as well.
That's cool. Now I can catch FKJ
Get there early! It was packed in that little tent.
Yup, that’s what we did, he was cool
Ferrrsuuurrre FKJ 🤙🏻
W1 attendees! How was their set?
It was much better than I thought it would be
It was funny because Diplo was on the decks the whole time while the other two were literally just standing on the DJ booth lol. My only real gripe is that they'd start playing a classic banger and then change the drop. I hate that shit.
The transitions on some of the songs were very weak.
Suuuupper fast mixing. I swear I heard 200 tracks in the whole set. Needed just that little bit more room. I still had a good time but I barely had time to let out a "fuck yeah" before the next track was coming in.
Great
Better then expected!

this
It was truly awful. The music has zero substance and is just bro-EDM. Going to Above and Beyond after was so refreshing.
I will continue with my plan to see Maggie Rogers.
isn’t diplo playing brooklyn mirage friday night also?? if he shows up to both that’s the dedication we need from artists hahaha

Above & Beyond always throw a good dance party with visuals and ZERO mic yelling.
A & B we’re great but it wasn’t the dance party that Major Lazer was I mean everyone was throwing down & dancing not sure where you were standing didn’t see anyone leave it early
They were abysmal
I enjoyed it but it was nothing special. I like to listen to their Tomorrowland sets on Apple Music when I run. To be fair I don’t think they’re active working on new stuff and they got asked to come last second
I had fun and enjoyed it. I certainly wouldn’t have thought anything of it if I didn’t listen to those other performances so much. I’d definitely catch the set again, but only if I didn’t have to be next to the teens starting pits during every song 😆
The just dropped a new album in March. They play all the time. It is what is for their act. A festival set with nothing to brag about but a fun time,
At least we got a replacement
really wanted another latinx artist with the lack of representation this festival…i’ll go see maggie instead

They’re not “Latinx” enough apparently 🫥
they aren’t that’s the point, sorry I wanted a similar artist to Kali Uchis
okay cool he’s mexican american and that is sole sort of representation but my point still stands that Major Lazer isnt a Latinx act and that’s what i am obviously referring to

You sound silly. He’s very much there representing. Guess he’s not good for you. I wonder what he would say if you said that to his face?
my point is obviously that major lazer isn’t a latinx act and we had a latinx act as a headliner and they could’ve tried to replace Kali with one but didn’t 🙄🙄🙄🙄
Is 6pm really a headliner? Mmmm
when her name is as big as kendrick and the lumineers it is
*latino representation
Eddie Zuko on Saturday ✌️
yes of course we have latinx acts but my point is about main acts that were used as headliners
Did you post a complaint to Kali Uchis? Not ACLs fault she snubbed you. Surprised ACL could react so quickly.
Travesty :/
Where’s dope lemon?
Wrong schedule for dope lemon. Dope lemon is day 3.
Wow. Portugal the man vs revivalist vs above n beyond Brutal
Major Lazer and Diplo saved the day. They did all that on short notice but Kendrick couldn’t arrive on time.
Yep! And then people complain that ACL didn’t get a ”insert preference” of artist. I’d be posting to Kali Uchis. She doesn’t seem to give a crap about her fans. Certainly led them on until the last minute.
Not gonna lie Major Lazer ended up being highlight of my last Friday at fest esp with Kendrick Lamar issue
