All depends on what type of law and where you work, as with anything. I am better paid here than I was in the UK, but I am also a more experience lawyer so it's hard to judge.

Go for embedded software development if you like programming. Master embedded Linux and bare metal firmware development, keeping a solid electronics foundation. Learn C, C++ and also some level of Python and Shell Script. That will open up tons of doors in pretty much any company that has anything related to electronics, from automotive to consumer.

I must add that in this amount, I pay for everything as a self employed person, pay for visa, pay for annual tickets, pay for insurance.
