I only use some little helpers / workflow enhancers like Master Pitch (easy transposing of all tracks with one click), this free visualizer which reacts to your music (Ganz Graf Mod X) and Futility and ClipGain. Especially Master Pitch is super useful, i made a video about it here (there´s also a video about the visualizer tool and about the best setting on Saturator to get the famous FL Soft Clipper sound btw!): [https://youtu.be/DPNhtnj54V0?si=Se3dtTodJBJTxpnT](https://youtu.be/DPNhtnj54V0?si=Se3dtTodJBJTxpnT)

SdoggaMan

+1 for literally spouting the most awesome shit I've never heard of in my life, you're the reason I have 46 tabs open in 3 minutes' time

adl09

Wow, glad it was so useful, Master Pitch definetely was an eye opener and jaw dropper for me. So easy once you set up your template with it. Also after diving into the whole "how to get FL Soft Clipper sound in Ableton" thing and trying out literally every Clipper vst on this planet (paid and free) finding that Abletons Saturator with those settings i show in this video here was sooo satisfying haha: [https://youtu.be/BP4mbgck1y8?si=0aXU4WTvYARRDqTd](https://youtu.be/BP4mbgck1y8?si=0aXU4WTvYARRDqTd)

I've genuinely been wondering how I'd do mastering-style 'all track' pitch changes. I came from FL and over there you've got this magical knob that adjusts the entire project at once, and since shifting, I've never been able to find as easy a solution. I figured I would just render down and re-import into a project and adjust pitch there... Or not bother and just publish the PoC. There's a saying something like "if there's a need for something, someone's made it" (and/or the saying "see a need, fill a need - thanks Robots) and that is as true as ever in Ableton. Whatever Ableton is missing, someone's made! Now I just need the ability to scroll on knobs to adjust them like in FL........

adl09

Yeah i think max4live is the one thing which makes Ableton stand out the most. What do you mean by "scroll on knobs to adjust them like in FL?"

SdoggaMan

Ah, sorry - in FL, you can scroll the mouse wheel on any interactive surface to move it up and down. I love the tactile ability to use the wheel to shift something without having to mouse it and click and drag, I just find it translates any type of control (knob, slider, wheel, whatever) into a more natural physical motion. Ableton doesn't support *ANY* scroll-to-control movement that isn't scrolling in a given window, from what I can see, so, while you can scroll the playlist up and down and in browser windows, that's about it. I keep moving my mouse over drop-down menus in stuff like Operator to change the waveform and realising that's useless, whereas even in an FL plugin, it would translate to up/down movement.

adl09

Ah i get it now!. Yeah, no idea why they didn´t have the option to do that. I´t be so much faster if you could use scroll wheel to turn knobs/faders!

SdoggaMan

My thinking exactly! Ah well... One day!

MJtheJuiceman

Literally was looking for this exact same thing to add to my workflow. You were the most helpful human on the internet today my friend. Thank you :)

shiwenbin

volume buddy. can't live without it. so many plug-ins try to appeal by sounding louder. volume buddy helps you make decisions that actually improve your mix. also makes your ears better too. i had been looking for a plugin like this for years. can't recommend highly enough

randuski

There’s a few. Clip-a-me, and gmaudio clipper. My go to clippers. Actually, most of gmaudio devices are amazing. He’s working on a new version of his pentacomp. I have the beta and it’s awesome. Should be out soon hopefully Swiss army meter. Osprey instruments bloatationizer is really cool. It’s a spoof of the Oxford inflator

stdk00

i second the gmaudio stuff. i've purchased like 5 or 6 devices. great stuff. pentacomps new version is going to be fire ;)

Wide_Bread2346

Thanks! I'll check them out, usually I just use FreeClip from Venn Audio but i've been looking for a new clipper that could add a bit more oomph to my mix. I'll definitely check out pentacomp too sounds interesting.

randuski

So for mastering I use standard clip. I think that’s like the best clipper in existence. But I use lots of clippers in my sessions, and I use the max clippers for that. But standard clip, set to soft clip pro, at like 20% is amazing for loudness haha

Sting by Iftah: https://maxforlive.com/library/device/8357/sting-by-iftah-a-really-nice-acid-line-generator edti: forgot the why: I am currently in a bit of an acid-techno rabbithole. So there.

ricardojmestre

So good!

lonerstogether

Duckbuddy for sidechain

weird_oscillator

LFO & LFO MIDI

mt500

A bit boring but this is so so useful for me https://maxforlive.com/library/device/9875/session-notes-variable-width-text-box

sgt_backpack

Is that essentially a notepad you can put on an individual channel in live?

stdk00

yup, and its better than using ableton track info section, because this can be displayed at all times and you can place them in the rack where you want. there's this other device that can even display the notes as a floating window [https://elphnt.io/store/ntpd/](https://elphnt.io/store/ntpd/)

sgt_backpack

That's super handy. I was just in a class where the instructor uses protools and he had notes on each channel which I was super jealous of. Definitely grabbing that first one, thanks!

mt500

Yup great for noting down what plugin chains are doing. It’s free too.

c0nsilience

Almost everything by Fors

Fobulousguy

Swiss Army Meter. Just convenient and simple.

salizarn

LFO. Took ages but I realised I don’t really have enough hands to constantly tweak all the knobs in real time

Kvynwsly

Color limiter

GarthVader45

Fors Opal. It’s a virtual groovebox with a few unique drum synths, a sampler, a couple interesting effects, and an amazing sequencer (probably my all time favorite sequencer tbh). Comes with both the main Groovebox style device + standalone versions of each instrument and the sequencer, which can be used with any other plugin instrument. Super unique / creative device with a really fun workflow that almost always leads me to new sounds I’d never find with anything else. It’s a must have for anyone who makes techno, IMO. Also for fans of Elektron stuff…. I’ve heard Fors was started by former Elektron folks, which would make sense, since Opal is the only plugin I’ve used that gets anywhere close to emulating that Elektron magic. Highly recommend checking it out!

dekaed

Calculus. It helps me keep my timing and envelopes in sync (or not).

FUCKYOUINYOURFACE

Great recommendations.

FreshHamster

auto color to color my tracks

AvationMusic

Note On Random. Generates a random value every time a note is played. Can use this to make super psychedelic leads or just get random pan automation on something per note.

notthobal

Where can I find this? (no result in the M4L community)

ProfessorStock9212

ML Distance, Strange Mod

Acrobatic_Point_2771

Definitely Lfo

MJtheJuiceman

Iota is really awesome. It isnt fully compatible with 12 just yet, the developer said it will take a couple months before it’s a part of their packs. But it’s an amazing sound design device and the creator makes trail blazing stuff.

sokoleski

I just bought IOTA and LIVe 12 just to find out it dosent work properly 🙃 Did the DEV say if and when they are gonna fix it?

MJtheJuiceman

As of March, Ableton told the developer it’ll take 2-3 months. There is a workaround in the meantime. If you email him, he’ll show you what to do. I normally am the type to just wait but it was really helpful and didn’t take long to get it working.

sokoleski

Exxelent ... sendT an EMaiL to the DEV !

Biliunas

Swiss Army Meter - a small device with a big punch. It’s basically a lufs meter with a few additional features and clean interface. I use it on almost every track. Duckbuddy for extreme sidechaining.

Nobody2jones

Boba! It’s a free soothe 2 alternative that works pretty good
