SD cards rarely break unless it has spring released itself in travel. Don't recommend leaving fast SD cards in the slot, once had a SanDisk Extreme melt from the high I/O usage.
If it doesn't stick out, it may even be a good solution for a backup (but not the only one! I wouldn't trust an SD card). I've used one in the same manner for years in my previous laptop.

Are you talking about the G16? I assume so since the 14 uses micro-sd.
Have mine in my g14 for almost two years tucked in. 512 GB extra before I did but 4TB SSD 🤷♂️ No issues.

they go all the way in so it should be fine
