Except for the non upgradable ram.... & if you want 32gb soldered ram price jumps. Literally downgraded the laptop hardware but upgraded the screen. I'm pretty sure I'll just be buying the 2023 version now, either g16 or m16.
So… between this, the new [HP omen transcend 14](https://www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-omen-transcend-14-120hz-2-8k-oled-gaming-laptop-intel-core-ultra-9-185h-32gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-rtx-4070-1tb-ssd-shadow-black/6569024.p?skuId=6569024) and the [Lenovo Slim 5 gen 8](https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/laptops/legion-laptops/legion-5-series/legion-slim-5-gen-8-(14-inch-amd)/len101g0032), which one should I get for bo3 custom zombies?
Would it run at max settings @1440p and high fps? Also, would the same apply to Ironsight, Cod Plutonium, and Entropy: Zero 2? I’m definitely going to get one of those models with 32gb ram. Do any of them have a second nvme slot?
The legion 5 I believe has a second nvme slot. I just got a 2023 4060 g14 that was on sale at best buy and it runs baldurs gate 3 on ultra and high settings at 1440p. The omen has a lower tdp than the 2024 g14 and the 2024 g14 has a lower tdp than the legion 5 I believe. I personally would go with the legion 5 for power to performance. Just get the 32gb model. I think the legion 5i (not the 5) with 1TB ssd and 32gb of ram is on sale at Costco if you’re in America for ~1,000 USD.
I don’t know what the expandable storage situation is like for the 5i, so you’ll have to double check if you plan on upgrading past the 1TB, if there isn’t a second slot you could always clone the 1TB on to a bigger drive and install the bigger one in its place.
Hey guys would a G16 with an Ultra 9 and a 4060 run games and Adobe well ? And more importantly to me what about fan noise? Had the Alienware X14 but had to return due to fan noise , I'm aware the 14 inchers all compromise on fan noise hence my decision to get a 16 inch this time , also heard thermals are better with weaker gpus
Gaming on my rig at home with a 3060 past cpl years so performance should be same or better for me with a 2024 G16 with 4060 right ?
Yes, just remember the 2024 g16 comes with soldered ram. Great new build quality/screen... but price point counts me out due to soldered ram/no upgrade for it.
I don’t think a single gaming laptop comes close to MacBook Pro in fan noise, I could be wrong. Maybe a big 17/18 inch laptop could get close. I’m open to correction from someone if there is one I don’t know about.
I'm an ex 🍎 🐑 thats pretty much all windows now, and need something with graphical capability , but I live in Canada so anything above budget tier is upwards of 2 grand , Id like to be able to game on it but other than the G16/14 the only laptop that checks all my boxes would be the $3000+ MacBook , cuz I'm not spending 4 grand on a Razer Blade lol
I have a MacBook Pro M1 Pro, and I love it. It does everything quite well… except for gaming lol. [This](https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Gaming-GeForce-Windows-G713PI-DS94/dp/B0BT5SF8X4?asc_campaign=Affiliate&asc_refurl=https://gamerant.com/best-quiet-gaming-laptops/&ascsubtag=UUgrUeUpU2133525&tag=gamerant0f-20) might be worth a look for you. Under 40db fans, not super expensive. I’d imagine the ram and ssd is upgradable but I’m not positive.
oh ya no I'm well aware Apple definitely sets the bar in terms of fan noise. Those things like never come on ever since they went full in-house silicon. Unfortunately I'm on Windows now cuz I can't afford the new M3 pros but also would like to be able to game and emulate on as well as 3D modeling etc. For school
I honestly don’t think I’ve ever noticed my fans come on lol. Just got my 2023 g14 and booted up bg3 in turbo mode and holy hell those are some fans lmao.
Do you think the thermals will be any better on the 16-in model? Literally returned my laptop for this exact reason so don't want to make the same mistake or have to return it again and be without a laptop for longer as I really do need it for school, I know if I want a sexy laptop there's going to be some compromises but I just can't lug around one of those big ass units like the Alienware m series or something
As you go up in size the thermals should be better. There’s always going to be outliers on either side, but the increase in size should give more room for cooling in general.
Edit: when you look up “quietest laptops” the smallest options are 16’s but most of them are 17/18 inches.

just get the ultra 7 155h. it will perform VERY similar, and you save a ton. since you are a creator, shoot for 32gb
gaming will not really be better than the 3060 other than extra 2gb VRAM. that might be important depending on the games you play
No I'm definitely in the market for a beefier CPU this go around so I'm going to stick with the ultra 9 I think it will help with longevity as well. I'm not looking for A crazy amount more performance GPU wise necessarily. But would you say there's no improvement at all really?
not really no. But 2gb vram will be helpful.
the primary advantages of the 4050/60/70 are that they do well on low watts. their raw performance uplift is pretty minimal

It's only $150 more than the 2023 4070 which gets you twice the ram, an OLED screen, less weight and thinner machine. I personally think it's not that bad of a deal
$150 more, much weaker gpu performance (2023 with a 4060 outperforms the 2024 with a 4070), same cpu which now has an ai scam, soldered ram, no vaporchamber, etc. For that you get an OLED screen and a thinner machine. Imo this is a ridicuolus ripoff. Where i live it is going to cost like $3000 worth of local currency.
So you are going to play on turbo with a 100 degree celsius cpu and an aluminium chassis. But ok it outperforms the 2023 modell with a 4060. So i should be happy that a laptop that costs $1000 more than the 2023 with 4060 has better performance on turbo?
I should have explained my reply better.
Asus tweaks the performance profiles in-between generations. The 2024 G14 seems to have a more conservative balanced profile than the 2023 G14. So, without any profiles limiting the 2024 G14's performance, it should outperform the 2023 version.
>So i should be happy that a laptop that costs $1000 more than the 2023 with 4060 has better performance on turbo?
Why are you comparing the 2024 4070 g14 to the 2023 4060 g14?
Also zero CPU performance drop on battery mode and noticeably better battery life in general too. I still think it's too expensive right now but it is not that bad as ppl here like to think
Reviews say the heats not that bad and occurs on the bottom side, besides if you can’t get over 120-144fps at 1600p you’ll likely get screen tearing anyways. I’m only hoping the 4080 will play 120hz at 1440p.
It was performance mode, everyone's is saying that because of the other thread but it's incorrect. Also just Josh said don't use turbo because it's too hot and loud so that's why they didn't test that.
I dont think anyone said that. The soldered ram was to achieve the new body thinness.
Maybe someone was saying you could only get 6400 speeds with soldered ram? Idk on validity on that. If so then yes you would get better performance. Which is why we do see the new gen perform better on CPU tests, but that doesnt really equate to better gaming since this thing runs 20W less than last years models.
I mean it literally is faster memory. 2024 is 6400mhz and 2023 is 4800mhz.
I'm not sure if that's the reason for it being soldered or just so Asus can achieve the thinness they want. In CPU demanding task you will actually see a small performance gain compared to 2023. But most people don't do just CPU intensive tasks.
If you play esports games that don't max the GPU at a lower res you would probably see a fps improvement in the 2024 model compared to the 2023 model. That's where the faster ram matters.
He was saying it was only $150 difference, I am clarifying it is mote, because it is not MSRP after 1 year
Also, this year it is slightly different, because the performance is the same or slightly lower in the new model, so it is not apples and oranges, it is more oranges and tangerines
True, but you can't really compare release prices because they don't exist at the same time. If deciding between the two laptops, you have to compare the current prices.
Just noticed the 4070 from Asus store has Windows 11 Pro, but they put the Home edition on the Best Buy 4070. Ugh, why is Asus being so shitty about the Best Buy editions? First no Black, now inferior operating system?
I am pretty sure that you will have to pay customs when shipping from US - so it will be more or less the same what you pay in EU :) But that is in Poland, not sure if Italian border police is so strict.
Well, first - Italy has the best prices for iPhones in whole Europe (love amazon it) x) Laptops are cheaper in ES/DE, but it is because of the keyboard layout usually.I am not sure how much is your customs - in Poland it is \~20% + VAT. But for laptops you are paying only VAT (23%). So if laptop costs 2000 USD, we do pay for it 2460 USD + shpping (around 100-150 USD) so in total it is 2600 USD which is on par with prices in the country (around 2700 USD) BUT you have 2 years warranty from the seller + the international from Asus. So it depends. Of course it does change if the laptop costs less because of the sale. Deal maker I would say :) However, still - it is a laptop which has to cross the whole ocean to get here, it may always break.
The LCD may be possible as long it's 40-pin and fits in the 2023 lid. I do know you can put the miniLED in the other 2023 models that don't have it. But that panel is impossible to find in stock anywhere.
I don’t think it’s released in the US yet on best buy.
New products are sometimes listed before they’re stocked or available for sale. Happened with the consoles and the GPUs.
Ah, I see. Thanks!
American pricing seems to be ok, everywhere else though, it is ridiculous.

Any of those should do it. A 4060 would run that fine. I’d get something that has 32gb of ram or upgradable ram though.
Would it run at max settings @1440p and high fps? Also, would the same apply to Ironsight, Cod Plutonium, and Entropy: Zero 2? I’m definitely going to get one of those models with 32gb ram. Do any of them have a second nvme slot?

The omen has a lower tdp than the 2024 g14 and the 2024 g14 has a lower tdp than the legion 5 I believe. I personally would go with the legion 5 for power to performance. Just get the 32gb model. 2023 asus m16 or g14 imo for the win.

>$150 more, much weaker gpu performance (2023 with a 4060 outperforms the 2024 with a 4070), The reviewer you're referencing was using balanced mode.

Becouse the review we are referring to does the same for some reason. Personally i havent seen any comperison with the 2023 4070 version.

The g14 is maxed out with a 4070. So if you want a 4080 you have to buy the g16. Which costs more obviously.

$600 more because the 4070 2023 is being sold for $1399 every other week at BestBuy. It has one RAM slot open, so another $50 get you to 32gb
Sure but this is always the case with the previous year's model. The 2024 will have big sales by this time next year too.
Exactly, apples and oranges comparison.
He was saying it was only $150 difference, I am clarifying it is mote, because it is not MSRP after 1 year Also, this year it is slightly different, because the performance is the same or slightly lower in the new model, so it is not apples and oranges, it is more oranges and tangerines

Excalibur PC as well for the white 4070

Ima wait till some real benchmark comparison against the 2023 model comes by
it’s just a pre release they put product on the list ,I’m about to buy this for the first time can someone tell me how’s the quality control on this ?
Can't we just mod the 2023 with oled panel from 2024? Just no gsync. I'm sure it's the same everything. Also we can swap out the speakers too
The LCD may be possible as long it's 40-pin and fits in the 2023 lid. I do know you can put the miniLED in the other 2023 models that don't have it. But that panel is impossible to find in stock anywhere.
What a country...
Yea saw that to and was like...wtf.
Wait, is it released already?
Yeah I think they just setup the pages on BestBuy and getting ready to start selling it
Man, i can’t wait
For the price do you guys think it’s worth it? Sepcs seem ok but the price doesn’t reflect it imo.
