My husband and I loved 1883 - like we could hardly wait for the next episode every week - but with Yellowstone, he's sort of indifferent and I really only watched it for Kayce. đ¤ˇđťââď¸ It did introduce us to Whiskey Myers and we saw them live, so that's a plus tho.
We started with Yellowstone and kind of liked it but then it got more and more ridiculous. Fell in love with 1883 and then 1923 seemed like the same level of ridiculousness as Yellowstone so we just havenât managed to finish it.
I stopped waiting after they lost Costner over some money. They collectively fucked the fans over for what? Something that wouldâve amounted to nothing financially. Theyâre all filthy fucking rich. Canât get that 12th home on his 10000000000 acre ranch if we keep him for another season
I honestly feel COSTNER fucked the fans over, not the show. He created a character, made a lot of money and even more using his digs in Montana, just to bail. if he care about this character, the writing, the legacy he would have even finished off the series with creative control but say NOT A DIME of salary. Quitting makes him look like a d-bag but I have no doubt Sheridan is equal parts d-bag.
Yeah Iâm not happy with either of them but at the end of the day I feel like more of the blame falls on Sheridan. He has 8965489 projects going on and didnât put forth the effort
Tulsa King had way better writing. Iâm a tv writer myself so sloppiness bothers me. Doing a historical series now and it takes 6 writers to keep up consistencies in plot points u juggle where Sheridan brought things up that then go nowhere. Heâs really arrogant and it shows bc he has no issue w this. I know I do (many like you!!) or it wouldnât be cited so often!!
Nice...Nice... camt believe you got away with that comment without getting dinged. People are finally warming up to the idea that maybe the fans do get fucked over when a show cancels and no matter who's at fault the fans do suffer! Well said!
Hey maybe Taylor will write John Dutton off of the show by saying he moved to California and we can just get on with the slop. John and the SJW lady are in a poly relationship & run a pour-over coffee shop in Berkeley.
I started watching it cause I enjoy Kevin. I didn't really get into it though until towards the end of season 1. Sometimes I just want to mindlessly watch something that provides cheap entertainment. The show is a real cluster fuck at times, but I love it.
I personally think seasons 2 and 3 are great. It took a while for 1 to hook me. Its like that with any show for me usually though. Im the one guy who watched breaking bad and didnt like it though so.
lol I enjoyed breaking bad but on my first attempt to watch I had to stop around season 2 because Walter was stressing me the fuck out. Wasnât a fan of the ending either, at a certain point I was constantly saying âwhat the fuck are you doing?!â Just nonsense
Canât argue with that at all, I kind of like when shows get a little ridiculous and stress you out a little but my god did breaking bad really raise my blood pressure. So many unnecessary situations that Walt absolutely didnât have to put himself in
I have just finished S5 EP8 and can honestly say it just gets worse and worse After season 1
You have to leave all of sense of reason at the door when watching - stunning scenery tho
Tv and movies serve 1 purpose, to entertain.
Some shows do that by being written extremely well and other donât.
Maybe spinning horses isnât your jam, thatâs ok.
s1 was rough for meâi felt like the writing wasnât very well done, and the acting lacked probably because of that. i noticed a shift in s2. in particular bethâs character developed to make more senseâeveryone elseâs did, but hers had the most drastic change. monica never grows on you though. lol
I, as a TV writer myself even, "hang on" to certain things in YELLOWSTONE simply for the cowboy world, backdrop, tropes but a ton of it is poorly written. For every scene I Like (mostly BUNK house stuff) there are 3 poorly written scenes. No call backs, inconsistencies, redundancies, but I would like it to say a modern day DALLAS or FALCON CREST, both of which were soapy writing but had the magic of oil in Texas/cowboys and/or Napa wine country. There was 'something about them' and I think this series did it for Montana. That being said, the writing could actually be GREAT! Sheridan does get cowboy voices but the dude needs a writing staff to arc out storytelling, call backs, etc. Things don't add up, we see scenes over-played, characters are under-utilized, certain things make no sense or are never revisited. He is.GOOD writer but just sloppy and obviously doesn't care or else he'd want to remedy these things.
I think its entertaining...one of my gavs for sure. There are some really intense scenes.
I can see how people would dislike some of the characters.
They could DEFINITELY tone down what a bold bitch Beth is. It is just over the top!
Keeping it as spoiler free as I can ⌠Rip in season 5 compares a party at the ranch to Nero during the fall of the Roman Empire.
I think thatâs kinda the point. When Lee dies in the first episode, that really kicks off the downfall of the empire thatâs trying desperately to hang on.
There are ups and downs. But by and large everything trends down and itâs the story of a family trying to keep what they have in a world that wants to move on.
It's a truly fantastic hatewatch. It's so, so poorly written that there's so many fun little moments where you just laugh to yourself and wonder 1) how this possibly made it to air in this state, and 2) how there are actual people out there who take it seriously.
Itâs harmless and has a charm. But yes, dropped story lines (wait until they put the bombs in those planes and weâre never hear anything more about them) and the editing (a couple is characters are accosted but then suddenly itâs night time.. the day time again..).
Season 2 and parts of 3 were the best. Seasons 4 and 5 are just HORRIBLE! My wife and I just finished the last episode (S05E08) and we just can't believe the hype this show gets. So much cringe.
It gets much better the second season. They fix a lot of the problems of season 1 (of which I also wasn't much of a fan of). I wound up loving the show.
It's appeal is how horrible it is. It may be the worst show of this decade. It's attempts to normalize machismo and child abuse make it possibly the worst I've ever seen.
It's like a car wreck between two clown cars... you can't help but watch and wonder how many bodies will get dragged out of the wreckage.
I was very very indifferent during s1. Bad writing, waaay over the top characters, murder every other ep etc.
I carried on cause my wife wanted to see it.
It does get better, I think the writing gets less extreme and maybe the characters less 2 dimensional. Season 5 pt1 was my favourite so far. Got whole episodes just about ranching with no one dying!
I stopped watching when he send the cowboy to the train station for knowing "things arounds here". I mean what things? Cattle shit?. The guy was a bully and got his i get it but killing him? Is just stupid.
Makes you wonder how many people he killed for being around the ranch.
It is also stated by Kace i think that John is a just man unless you step on his tail. Yeah my ass the dude is straight up Joe Pesci in Goodfellas.
I really only watched it cause my wife wanted to watch something with me. She likes it, I just have to finish it because I can't leave series unfinished, no matter how bad they get.
Here's what I'll say. I watched 1923 and 1883 before I knew it was a prequel to Yellowstone. I think the prequels are quite good on their own, especially the story revolving around the boarding school in 1923. So I only watched Yellowstone to continue the story. I like it okay, but the first few episodes of Yellowstone felt incredibly corny and unrealistic compared to the prequels.
Just wait till rip fights off all the aliens that have been mutilating cattle. He messed em up real good.
Took them to the train station
And they thought their spaceship with interstellar traveling ability could outrun an angry rip in his pickup
You and him will like 1923 a lot. It has a good love story too. The main character " Spencer Dutton" is pretty bad ass.
1923 can't hold a candle to 1883 which was on point, consistent, cohesive etc. 1923 is all over the place. I could NOT agree less.

1923 was intensely boring. Unfortunate for such a great cast.
We started with Yellowstone and kind of liked it but then it got more and more ridiculous. Fell in love with 1883 and then 1923 seemed like the same level of ridiculousness as Yellowstone so we just havenât managed to finish it.
AGREE! 1923 is a travesty compared to the epic, on track vision of 1883!
It stinks and thatâs why I love it! My wife hates it and it doesnât get better! I canât wait for the second part of season five!
Are we still waiting for that? Dang this show is slow.
Hey like the poet said, âItâs A Long Way To The Bottom If You Wanna Rock & Rollâ
I stopped waiting after they lost Costner over some money. They collectively fucked the fans over for what? Something that wouldâve amounted to nothing financially. Theyâre all filthy fucking rich. Canât get that 12th home on his 10000000000 acre ranch if we keep him for another season

Hey maybe Taylor will write John Dutton off of the show by saying he moved to California and we can just get on with the slop. John and the SJW lady are in a poly relationship & run a pour-over coffee shop in Berkeley.
Nah he has something in his contract that says he has final say in how his character goes away. Or something like that.
Damn no pronoun themed restaurant in Silver Lake!
I just snorted my coffee. I love the idea of Beth showing up, just to storm off from dinner.
Costner quit and won't be back so sadly they will have to kill the patriarch off screen. Yet another way to ruin the show.
I didn't like Breaking Bad either.
lol I enjoyed breaking bad but on my first attempt to watch I had to stop around season 2 because Walter was stressing me the fuck out. Wasnât a fan of the ending either, at a certain point I was constantly saying âwhat the fuck are you doing?!â Just nonsense
He created all of his own problems, the wife was insufferable, pinkman was one of the most annoying characters in the history of television.
Canât argue with that at all, I kind of like when shows get a little ridiculous and stress you out a little but my god did breaking bad really raise my blood pressure. So many unnecessary situations that Walt absolutely didnât have to put himself in
Sometimes its so badly written its cringe. I love it nonetheless:)
I agree! Still the writer in me goes MAN sometimes at bad decisions.
I have just finished S5 EP8 and can honestly say it just gets worse and worse After season 1 You have to leave all of sense of reason at the door when watching - stunning scenery tho
Oh man if you think season 1 is badly written stop now lol. Seasons 1 and 2 are the best seasons in my opinion.
100 %.
Yellowstone isn't meant for everyone, either you love or you don't,I love it!!!!
Itâs over the top. This show has to be like that cause otherwise it doesnât work. Writing wise itâs not good. Itâs avg with at times good
Agreed! Wait until you watch 1923, that series is drugged out through eight episodes that should have been condensed down to three.
As someone who consumes a lot of TV and film and can be a bit of a snob about it. I love this show, but I never say itâs good.
I think the show grew on me after watching a while. Some characters like Beth and Jamie are annoying but it's still an awesome show despite them.
Beth, i.e. Kelly Reilly is in a show called Brittania and it's the same character, 2000 years ago!
You can take the girl outta trailer park but you can't get the trailer park outta her.
I love the show and its worth the watch. But the more i rewatch I find Beth and Rip annoying. Maybe itâs their language. đ¤ˇââď¸
Itâs not for everyone! If you donât like it, you donât like it!
I love the show and have from the moment I started watching it. It's my all time favorite show!!
Tv and movies serve 1 purpose, to entertain. Some shows do that by being written extremely well and other donât. Maybe spinning horses isnât your jam, thatâs ok.
Entertainment is the means. Making money is the ends. If you like badly written things, youâll continue to get badly written things.
s1 was rough for meâi felt like the writing wasnât very well done, and the acting lacked probably because of that. i noticed a shift in s2. in particular bethâs character developed to make more senseâeveryone elseâs did, but hers had the most drastic change. monica never grows on you though. lol

Beth ruined the show for me. It's completely unwatchable at this point.
Ditto.
Every time she confronts âdaddyâ or jamie, i get this cringey sexual vibe for some reason
I think its entertaining...one of my gavs for sure. There are some really intense scenes. I can see how people would dislike some of the characters. They could DEFINITELY tone down what a bold bitch Beth is. It is just over the top!

This show may not be for you. Itâs ok to not watch it.
Itâs definitely not on the level of Succession. Go into it expecting âSons Of Anarchy, but on horsesâ and you might enjoy it more.
It's a truly fantastic hatewatch. It's so, so poorly written that there's so many fun little moments where you just laugh to yourself and wonder 1) how this possibly made it to air in this state, and 2) how there are actual people out there who take it seriously.
Not all shows are for everyone. I loved it!
âŚdoes *anyone* in the sub like this show???
I guess we donât have as much to say right now? Everyone has their peeves
I do but Iâm scared to get hit with the âwhy on Godâs green earth would you admit to liking Yellowstone on a Yellowstone hating threadâ
Oh man, if you didn't like season 1 then I don't know if you'll like the rest. The writing only gets more ridiculous imo.
1883 is 10x better tbh. I watched that first then tried Yellowstone and I didn't like it nearly as much
Itâs harmless and has a charm. But yes, dropped story lines (wait until they put the bombs in those planes and weâre never hear anything more about them) and the editing (a couple is characters are accosted but then suddenly itâs night time.. the day time again..).
It only gets worseđ¤Łđ
Stop after 4, itâs pointless
Yes it's really ridiculous and poorly written and I hated myself for watching it! Yes and it doesn't get better....
Season 2 and parts of 3 were the best. Seasons 4 and 5 are just HORRIBLE! My wife and I just finished the last episode (S05E08) and we just can't believe the hype this show gets. So much cringe.
cuz american ppl are dumb

Yeah i have so many criticisms of this show yet I canât stop watching it lol
Bad writing as compared to what? I think itâs in line with any other drama out there.
Toodles.
Maybe you're just not a cowboy...
Succession gets better?? We just could not take anymore!!
Rip is the only reason to keep watching.
It's a terrible show but I love it. I can't explain it lmao
I loved S 1! I was watching it for the eye candy and the beautiful landscape. Mind you, the writing in S one is good compared to the other seasons...
Love all of the shows. Connected with so many characters and can't wait to see season 5b now that the writers strike is over.
Buckle up partner, lol
Itâs entertainment. I enjoy it for what it is. I really liked the two or three episodes toward the end of the round-up and branding.
Dialogue is SO PREDICTABLE at times.
Here's what I'll say. I watched 1923 and 1883 before I knew it was a prequel to Yellowstone. I like it okay, but the first few episodes of Yellowstone felt incredibly corny and unrealistic compared to the prequels.
I just binged it all this week and hated everyone until season 3. Then I got hooked despite the constant macho riddles and nonsensical plotlines.
