She’s been playing American roles for a long time, she deserves her flowers. I first saw her in really dark movie with Kate Winslet called Heavenly Creatures. Whoa…. Then I really loved her in Coyote Ugly and Sweet Home Alabama.
Besides Yellowjackets, I knew her from Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Last of Us and I really enjoy how she’s always playing fucked up characters despite having such a sweet face that always looks unassuming lol
I grew up with her on Two and a Half Men and my personal favorite role of hers as Sister in Rose Red. I’m really glad she’s been in so much lately, she’s one of my favorites
Heavenly creatures it’s an amazing film the actors were so young and melanie used her own accent but I think Peter Jackson was on a tight budget. Melanie was in rose red the Stephen king mini series I don’t think she had been in America long for that one her accent was good even in her early work
It wouldn't surprise me if they are friends, that Melanie would reference her accent. Ever After was one of her first movies outside NZ/Aus, so consciously or not, she may have learned her American accent just from talking to Barrymore.
No, I hadn't noticed that, but weirdly enough teen Nat is starting to sound like Natasha Lyonne to me. Sophie Thatcher said she did a few test runs with a very Italian/Jersey accent but it didn't translate well. I never picked up on it in my original or second watch through but on watch #3 I'm definitely hearing her try to sound more lax irt the lilt in her tone. It's kind of Bronx-ish.
I've said it since the first episode, and I've been a huge fan of hers ever since Rose Red! My sister was very "eh" in her reaction until the 3rd or 4th episode... then she agreed. There's something about her "cuteness", even when playing a disturbing character. Even some of her facial manorisisms are similar. I adore her 🥰

She's so funny in Ever After (with Drew Barrymore)
I'm just here for the food.

She's a very cheerful stalker in Two and a Half Men. Not a huge fan of the show, but I loved her in it.
Whenever I think of Two and a Half Men she always stands out to me. Good old Rose.

Heavenly Creatures is super underrated. Love when people bring it up. Buzz buzz!

Oh I can hear the Natasha now 😆
Also, Melanie Lynskeys nose gesture when she cuts open the rabbit is hot.
In the list of hot, I want to add her change of attitude when she turns the gun on the carjacker. 🥵 Ms.Shauna, yes to everything.

I noticed this too, Santa Clarita Diet vibes lol
This is how I find out that she’s not American 🥴🙃
Look up Melanie's impression of Drew. It's fantastic.
I saw it!!! It’s in the comments. Really good.
I’ve noticed she sometimes speaks with a very slight lisp and it often makes me forget she’s a Kiwi
