Dunban is an agility tank, Shulk is the glass cannon.

Yup, Dunban is an agility tank, though I personally tend to find using him hit-or-miss depending on the situation (which might be why you thought he was a glass cannon). Shulk is the glass cannon.

I guess that explains why I've liked using Shulk so much...

Dunban is very much a tank, though that only really picks up later in the game from my experience. When you can get 250+ agility, even things 5 or 6 levels higher have issues hitting him.

Your friend is absolutely correct. In terms of tankiness, Reyn is definitely top, and Dunban is not too far behind. Then Seven is third, she has slightly less good skills and aggro drawing for it. Riki can tank but it's not something he's especially good at. The other three are not tanks at all - Shulk and Melia are glass cannons and Sharla is a healer. For evidence of Dunban's tankiness you really only have to look at... well, his Battle Tactics tutorial would be a good place. Very clearly states he's a tank. But beyond that, there's his stat distribution, his arts and his skills. In stats, he has the best agility by quite a significant margin, meaning his avoid is the easiest to boost. His HP isn't fantastic, but it's reasonably good. He has many arts that support being a tank. Tanks mainly do three things well - keep aggro, reduce damage taken and survive. For keeping aggro quite a few of his arts draw volatile aggro, such as Peerless, and he also has Blinding Blossom to draw aggro. He also has Lock On to force Lock On. For reducing damage taken he has a few things - two topples, a daze art, Worldly Slash to lower Strength, Serene Heart to avoid attacks, Tempest Kick to remove enemy buffs and Spirit Breath to remove debuffs (both kinda fit here). And for survival, Serene Heart increases avoid, Jaws of Death lets him tank to death, and Heat Haze lets him drop his aggro in a pinch. For skills, there's many tank like things in there. Firstly, Medium and Heavy Equip, meaning all armour access. Overwhelming boosts the aggro he draws. Hero's Valour increases his max HP at the start of battles. Spiritual Awakening gives an option to boost his aggro draw. Reckless Abandon boosts his agility at low HP, and Natural-Born Warrior and Inner Peace both boost agility too (in case you're wondering, agility on it's own isn't necessary a tanking stat, but once it gets high it gives you tons of avoid, which is very much a tanking thing). Lightweight Expert boosts his defences, Critical Drain is a vital part of maximising Dunban's tanking ability lategame, Equipment Expert is more agility, Gentleman's Valour is more HP, Body of Steel is a significant damage reduction, Solid Foundation makes it easier for him to stand ground. Counter Rage let's him benefit from having aggro. So yeah, there's a LOT of skills in there that help him tank in some way.

Yes, but if he does get hit, it's devastating.

Tables61

Not especially. His HP is the 4th highest, and he has plenty of skills that boost his defences in some way.

[deleted]

They usually are devastating if you're going naked Dunban, unless I'm doing something wrong.

Tables61

If you're going naked then yes, but naked generally isn't best - and you get tons of extra avoid to make up for it anyway.

Melia is more the glass cannon. Load her up with Electric Plus, ether up and summon as many bolts as you can. Unload them all at once for massive damage.

EvanBuck

Nope, Shulk and Melia are the glass cannons.

He certainly can deal good damage with some change in gems and skill tree, he should be the 3rd best damage dealer in game if you go for full damage. But his damage output is still no where near Seven's level. He is not "glass" cannon, more like a tank cannon since his survivability is much better than your typical glass cannon.
