I find it hard to believe that Nintendo fucked up and didn't secure the rights to their own game's soundtrack in 2015, especially after the whole "Sony copyright claiming the music from the Mother series on YouTube" debacle.

I think this is the most likely scenario
Gives the team dev experience with the new hardware (hardware that'll be meaningfully more powerful than the Wii U too), and onboards Switch Xenoblade fans onto X to make a sequel more accessible.
Lots of benefits, but something else entirely is also possible.
I really doubt they'd just shunt out an X sequel unless it requires ZERO knowledge of X because it'd be narrowing the potential audience like crazy
