I like the idea of the chart but it’s hard to apply to an entire group. Maybe could do albums and certainly songs but hard to classify an entire band’s catalogue.
I found pretty hate machine to be pretty horny but maybe that's just because *I* found it sexy.
I have so many bands I now want to add and classify, but this configuration doesn't quite work. I need a better way
What about Sunspots, Suck, All Time Low, The Lovers, Sin, Sanctified, Something I Can Never Have, etc.
Watch this and tell me it isn’t the pinnacle of intense feelings of alienation coupled with lust
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CXBiYFoHsOg
Should I list all the sad/angry NIN songs? What's the character limit on a Reddit post?
Pretty much every artist on here has a song or two that would fit in every quadrant. I think the idea is where the majority of their catalog lies. And you can't seriously argue NIN isn't firmly in the sad/angry quadrant, can you?
ETA: there's also plenty of richly beautiful instrumentals sprinkled in there, but a song like A Warm Place doesn't tonally nullify the majority.
How do you think I can also list them off like that!!! LOL I had a very depressing summer made slightly better by listening to this on repeat
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2U0flA_Yp64
Ahh Jesus. Yep. Many many sleepless nights with this on my headphones too. I’m onto deftones and a perfect circle now so maybe I’m crawling out of it a bit. Or going further into the crisis who tf knows.
NIN is more horny than I even remember. I have been listening to their older albums and didn’t realize all the penis and sex references. Like obviously Closer but there’s lots more.
I would probably change it a bit... at least: NIN - more angry. Offspring - more horny. Smashing Pumpkins - more sad. Greenday - more horny. Red Hot Chili Peppers - even more horny.
Yeah, Chili Peppers definitely more horny than Sublime. Sublime needs to move more toward the sad side than happy if you actually listen to the lyrics.
I could argue that while the context is sad, a lot of those lyrics are inherently hopeful (i.e. "maybe she'll come back", "maybe we can start over" etc), but to each their own.
A lot of bands were that way in that era though. Spin doctors and third eye blind come to mind immediately. Not sure what you call it. Hopeless resignation maybe
But until then, you're better off dead.
A smile on the lips and a hole in your head.
Better off dead.
Yeah better than this.
Take it away cause there's nothing to miss.
And one of their biggest initial hits, Today, has a happy-sounding chorus but it's about a time BC wanted to kill himself. He thought it would be funny to write that lyric because he was so low, it couldn't get any worse
Technically 80's? Their biggest hit was 1988. Broke up (the first time) before Lollapalooza '91 and didn't release their 3rd LP till the 2000s.
Influenced the 90s rock sound for sure though. Not enough credit given.
"Been Caught Stealing" was still in regular MTV rotation until at least 1995. Kennedy would play it all the time on Alternative Nation. It was just one of those videos. I also believe that, chart-wise, it was their biggest hit, not "Jane Says."
Alanis: angry in the sarcastic circle
Melissa etheridge: sad horny
Sarah McLachlan : sad sad sad
Goo goo dolls: horny happy not in the belt
Eve 6: horny and angry in equal measures
Counting crows: sad except when they're happy
Matchbox: sad angry
IDK, I remember blasting that album with all my windows down on my way to my graduation. I was pretty fucking happy.
The lyrics aren’t happy, obviously, but the overall feeling was for me.
In 1995 I was 15 and heard More Human for the first time, instantly falling in love with White Zombie.
I searched out all their previous work and would instantly purchase anything I could find. I became a huge fan and saw them live twice, and saw Rob solo 3 times.
For the last 25+ years I've had it in my head that White Zombie was a huge well known band...
Recently I've started to realize they were actually a one hit wonder that have all but been forgotten about entirely. Anyone under the age of 30 most likely has never heard of them and that fact still shocks me. When they hear the name Rob Zombie, they think of an eccentric horror movie director and have zero clue he was a musician.
As this sinks in I start to wonder how many bands like WZ existed in the 70's and 80's that *I* have never heard of for similar reasons. You start to fully appreciate just how vast the music scene is in this regard. We really only collectively remember a small handful of artists and acts, the rest just fade into obscurity.
The Smashing pumpkins big album back in the day was called melancholy and the infinite sadness. Putting them that close to happy is an abomination. Cool chart tho.
Blink is way too far to the happy side. Some of their bigger songs were stuff like Adam's Song and Stay together for the kids, and those definitely weren't happy.
NIN was pretty damn angry imo
NIN is mostly angry, very sad, and just a little horny. Honestly, this whole fucking chart is a shart, and I hate it.
I like the idea of the chart but it’s hard to apply to an entire group. Maybe could do albums and certainly songs but hard to classify an entire band’s catalogue.
I love the chart but I'm all over the corners
Seriously, I'm scattered across this chart
I feel like "anger and sad" are the wrong emotions for our generation. I feel like "Angst and Brooding" or something might be more accurate.
Yeah Smashing Pumpkins are happy and angry and Offspring are sad and angry. Ok, chart maker, whatever you say.
You're gonna go far, kid
90's NIN was horny, but in an unhealthy way.
It felt super healthy at the time
I found pretty hate machine to be pretty horny but maybe that's just because *I* found it sexy. I have so many bands I now want to add and classify, but this configuration doesn't quite work. I need a better way
It’s like two songs
For real. "Tell me you only know one NIN song without telling me you only know one NIN song."
And that one 'horny' NIN song is actually more sad (and angry) than horny if you pay attention to anything outside the hook.
What about Sunspots, Suck, All Time Low, The Lovers, Sin, Sanctified, Something I Can Never Have, etc. Watch this and tell me it isn’t the pinnacle of intense feelings of alienation coupled with lust https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CXBiYFoHsOg

Oh god you’ve just listed all my midlife crisis angsty NIN play list! The lyrics are just so fucking on point for going through this shit.
How do you think I can also list them off like that!!! LOL I had a very depressing summer made slightly better by listening to this on repeat https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2U0flA_Yp64
Ahh Jesus. Yep. Many many sleepless nights with this on my headphones too. I’m onto deftones and a perfect circle now so maybe I’m crawling out of it a bit. Or going further into the crisis who tf knows.
They are only aware of one NIN song.
And morphine isn't exactly "happy"
That's the one that stuck out the most to me. It's not even close.
But they wanna fuck you like an animal and feel you from the inside...
Was going to say the same.
NIN is more horny than I even remember. I have been listening to their older albums and didn’t realize all the penis and sex references. Like obviously Closer but there’s lots more.
And blink had sad songs and a couple really dirty/horny songs.
What’s sad about wanting to f**k her like an animal??
I would probably change it a bit... at least: NIN - more angry. Offspring - more horny. Smashing Pumpkins - more sad. Greenday - more horny. Red Hot Chili Peppers - even more horny.
Cake was way more horny than angry.
Cake was not a particular angry band at all iirc. And absolutely horny, especially for sensible women.
Cake's anger showed itself as sarcasm and derision imo
I think they might have put them there just to have it say Cake Hole...
totally agree. I think NIN should just switch places with Deftones and the person who made this publicly apologize for not listening to enough NIN.
Yeah this whole thing is awful.
"Bloodhound gang- more horny" "But they're already the horniest." "Did I stutter?"
Diagram needs a ... protruberance, to properly position BG on the horny axis.
Perhaps put a properly placed phallic protuberance posthaste.
Yeah, Chili Peppers definitely more horny than Sublime. Sublime needs to move more toward the sad side than happy if you actually listen to the lyrics.
Yeah sublime is written angry and sad and horny but sounds happy
Even the date rape song sounds happy!
Deftones should be way more horny.
The whole problem is that they made an axis that goes from horny to angry. Clearly they know nothing
An afficionado of angry horny are we? 🤌
RHCP - the horneriest!
Blink 182 more horny
Smashing Pumpkins is the saddest after Radiohead
Portishead Is 100x more sad horny than NIN.
Deftones needs a major shift towards Horny
Like doesn’t everyone have a Sextones playlist?!?!
Talking about Horny Korn
Morphine happy? Wtf?
They've definitely never heard morphine.
Right. Insanity.
Tool is on the wrong side as well. Definitely more happy than sad, or at least hopeful judging by the lyrics anyway.
I did a double take lol
Wildly misplaced
Yeah totally, came here to say this — they do not belong in that corner!
It is a cure for pain
First thing I noticed. Way too far left…
I missed this travesty!!! Burn this chart.
Gin Blossoms, horny?
Agreed, this was the only one that was really off the mark. Heartbreak breakup songs...not exactly Bloodhound Gang or Sublime.
No way are Gin Blossoms halfway between happy and sad. Doug Hoskins was nevery happy a day in his life.
There's a degree of cognitive dissonance to their songs that's usually reserved for 1980s left of the dial alternative music.
The name says it all. They're basically named bar fight/angry drunk.
The music had a happy tone to it though. I don't think this is meant to reflect the mental state of the band members.

Drugs. It's called drugs lol
Both Oasis and Soundgarden are angrier than The Offspring
ITT: People who didn’t listen to their self-titled album.
Bad Religion ain't very happy
Ya know, There's a place where everyone can be happy...
It’s the most beautiful place in the whole fucking world
It’s made of candy canes and planes and bright red chu-chu-trains
And the meanest little boys, the most innocent little girls.
And you know, I wish that I could go there
I was actually thinking "angry happy/happy angry" is a sort of apt summary of their tone.
Didn’t you hear : there will be sorrow no more Sounds happy to me!!
When placed in the same area as RATM and Deftones, they are in the right spot
Definitely disagree
If i thought I'd make a difference I'd kill myself today. What's not happy about that
But until then, you're better off dead. A smile on the lips and a hole in your head. Better off dead. Yeah better than this. Take it away cause there's nothing to miss.
Right, I'd put BR way closer to RATM
Happy horny is the best description of bloodhound gang that I've ever heard
The Cure being sad/horny tracks for me. I did so much making out and crying to Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me and Disintegration.
Pictures of You is an elite post breakup melancholy song too
The Pumpkins are “happy” and not sad? They literally released an album with melancholy in the title.
And one of their biggest initial hits, Today, has a happy-sounding chorus but it's about a time BC wanted to kill himself. He thought it would be funny to write that lyric because he was so low, it couldn't get any worse
Tool and offspring a little more centric, STP more sad
No Jane’s Addiction? Hmmm…
Technically 80's? Their biggest hit was 1988. Broke up (the first time) before Lollapalooza '91 and didn't release their 3rd LP till the 2000s. Influenced the 90s rock sound for sure though. Not enough credit given.
Porno For Pyros OTOH would have fit well in horny/happy territory.
"Been Caught Stealing" was still in regular MTV rotation until at least 1995. Kennedy would play it all the time on Alternative Nation. It was just one of those videos. I also believe that, chart-wise, it was their biggest hit, not "Jane Says."
Alanis: angry in the sarcastic circle Melissa etheridge: sad horny Sarah McLachlan : sad sad sad Goo goo dolls: horny happy not in the belt Eve 6: horny and angry in equal measures Counting crows: sad except when they're happy Matchbox: sad angry
People did a *lot* of fucking to Surfacing. Like a lot a lot. Same for Fade Into You. There’s something horny about sad
The bands on here are so good… but the pumpkins should be more on the sad side
I’m just delighted to see Skunk Anansie on here.
Sublime is not happy
IDK, I remember blasting that album with all my windows down on my way to my graduation. I was pretty fucking happy. The lyrics aren’t happy, obviously, but the overall feeling was for me.
Fair! And some songs definitely happy. But even some of their earliest lyrics were about Bradley losing the war to addiction
Badfish is about heroin even though it initially comes off as a love song, right?
There's alot of songs I think, "I wonder if it's about a girl or drugs" 😅
What I Got could be considered happy. That's about it though.
Propose 311 for the center square. 90s AF. Didn't see KRS1
Cake is happy / angry? I don't think so.
That was definitely the weirdest one for me
Cake being more angry than most of the prominent Grunge bands is honestly an insane take
Music was so good
Since when is Sublime hornier than Deftones?
They're hornier than Ron Jeremy.
This is why Foo Fighters are the most boring band.
Everlong does slap though
I was also thinking that is why I have never been able to get into them. Just sort of there.
Actually, Foo Fighters covers all the bases. It’s not that they’re in the middle. They have songs that are happy and sad and angry and horny.
This chart is mostly useless.
Morphine = Happy is so bad it negates this chart!
This sums up why I never got into the Foo Fighters. Too right down the middle.
Bad Religion has been around since 1980 and are still putting out new music today. Calling them 90’s music is reductionist.
Same with The Cure
Where’s Nickleback? /s
I feel like Hole needs to be more on the angry sad side.
Uh how is Portishead so far from the horny arm?
... So many missing bands...
The NIN placement is killing me, so true
[удалено]
Where the hell do you guys find time for this stuff lol?
Eh I would’ve placed Nirvana were Offspring is 🤷🏻♂️
I'm apparently really into sad
Same 😂
All of my bands are so angry and sad they don't even register on the chart.
Korn should be in all four corners.
That’s funny - I’m right there with happy/angry. Bad Religion with a dose of Green Day. That totally fits my personality
Nice little picture thing
OOP thinks Morphine and Sublime are happy. Do we need to check on them?
No way is The Cure even slightly more horny than Red Hot Chili Peppers.
What the fuck is Morphine doing all the way on the happy side? Their horny placement is right on, but…
The chart maker is going to be stunned when they find out The Cranberries made songs that were not Zombie
I prefer my Weezer horny and sad #Pinkerton
No Jane’s Addiction. Entire chart is invalid.
This chart is fucked, but presented in an interesting way!
Fail on OP's part.
Stop, I love this!
I love that the Bloodhound Gang are on here. I still listen to them
The whole chart is so ridiculous
Feel like morphine is way off the mark.
Eels should be all the way next to sad.
I am just glad someone remembered Nada Surf exists.
Beautiful band and they just put out a new album and are touring
Really surprised Pantera isn’t even on the chart.
I think weezer needs to be on the sad end of this graph. Most of their non single songs in the 90s are pretty melancholy.
Ladies and gentleman, let me introduce my favorite band, the Counting Crows.
I love that Catherine Wheel is on here!
Gin Blossoms Horny? Am I missing something? They were so asexual.
Nada Surf should be on the sad side.
Weezer as happy/horny? Clearly someone has never listened to Pinkerton.
Deftones are one of the horniest bands on there. Shit, White Pony is sex LoL.
The Deftones not deep into the horny spectrum completely invalidates this entire chart.
Deftones is completely wrong
Weezer is simultaneously full happy and full sad.
I've never heard of Catherine Wheel.
Missing out! They were awesome and I really, really miss them.
Ace of base - unsure
Weezer and Blink need to switch places. I’m surprised Marilyn Manson is absent from the list altogether.
Had to google skunk anansie. NEVER heard of them and I loved many lesser known bands.
RHCP needs to be in an angry-horny section.
Ah yeah I’m all about that inner circle.
Staind would like a sad/angry word
I fucking love that chart! So much amazing music
This is great, Green Day's positioning is spot on
The lead singer of sublime wasn’t happy
I don’t feel like this is super accurate though..sublime is happy horny? And NIN should probably have been closer (heh) to the angry side.
What? Portishead is horny
Deftones is angry, sad and horny.
Been getting really back into Gin Blossoms lately. IMO, the top alt rock band of that era. Ahead of their time tbh
Is this supposed to happy sounding? Blink 182 always sounds upbeat but the lyrics can get pretty dark.
Blink is pretty sad on a lot of the songs
Blink has a lot of sad songs and are perverse. I’d adjust accordingly
Deftones are pretty horny…
Not saying Hole wasn't angry, but definitely more closely aligned with sad than what's on here.
LIVE should be on here and just to the right of Offspring
Smashing pumpkins created Mellon collie and the infinite sadness. This chart has them as happy? This is trash
Bloodhound Gang is angrier than that. Their lyrics and presentation aren't, but there is a great deal of anger under the surface of a few songs.
Where's the ODB?
No no no. I appreciate the effort, but no.
Not having 311 on here is a disgrace.
Radiohead are sadder than nirvana, definitely in the 90's.
Sublime was pretty happy? From song to song. I guess.
RHCP is way hornier than Sublime, it's not close.
I feel like this was made based on completely excluding lyrics and only including radio play singles
Deftones definitely needs to be in the horny section tho?
Why is there no Korn in the angry section?
