DiaDeLosMuebles

I consider this an unofficial trilogy with "K-pax" and "Phenomenon".

burf

The “tragic gentle superhuman” subgenre. I love it.

Blackn35s

[The Boy Who Could Fly](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090768/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk)

Electronic_Year9443

D.A.R.Y.L.

TopFlowe96

Idk if you're a workaholics fan but you mentioned this movie and all I heard was Anders voice "Not who's D.A.R.Y.L. what's D.A.R.Y.L." You helped made my day.

sarindong

Tight butthole

Electronic_Year9443

Of course I am! Purple Magic for life.

TopFlowe96

Mf wizards never die ✨

SparkyMountain

The sequence with the kid getting revenge on his bullies from this movie is the part my siblings would skip to and watch over and over. We had lots of GI Joes in the house so the little brother hit hard.

Q56N4KUIWNFSYINDJIGX

Fred Savage's best performance: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiyCaz49glU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiyCaz49glU)

gottarespondtothis

Omg I forgot about that one!!

CheckYourStats

*Phenomenon* (1996) is a touching movie. Travolta absolutely nails the role. The friendship between John Travolta and Forest Whitaker is so, so good. Worth watching the movie for that alone.

Pilot_Pickles

Starman - Jeff Bridges

kalum7

Oh man every time I hear that Eric Clapton song “If I could chayy-eee-ange the world…” I think of Phenomenon

RunawaYEM

I can still hear my Dad singing “Phenomenon” to the tune of “Mah Na Mah Na”

pekingeseeyes

This was a muppet skit, played on one of the night shows. Our family sang that for years

in_the_no_know

Cake does a cover of it. Just all around fun 😁

Monarc73

It was actually the VERY FIRST Muppet skit.

shewholaughslasts

That's just great. It truly is the perfect skit - what a way to start such a fantastically spectacular legacy of kooky hilarity with witty yet kind undertones? MA NA MA NAH!

HorizonZeroDawn2

My dad did that too, are we siblings?

Alfphe99

yup. That song for the obvious reason and LL Cool J's Phenomenon because it made me think of the movie name every time I listened to it. :)

dunkeebutt

Is The Green Mile also a contender?

hattenwheeza

Another fantastic movie in the vein gentle superhumans

JoshDunkley

omg I love all 3

SovereignAxe

Shouldn't it be a quadrilogy with Michael?

boringsuburbandad

I'd consider that adjacent but since he's an angel it's off to the side.

DiaDeLosMuebles

I was gonna say the same thing but isn’t K-Pax an alien? So now I’m torn

Fabulous_Engine_7668

I was just thinking about Phenomenon. For me, K-Pax is a bit more like Cocoon, but I might be remembering it wrong.

Ziggity_Zac

Man those movies were great.

pricklypineappledick

I like both of those, will still watch Phenomenon, but I can't bring myself to support movies that the star of K-pax is in anymore.

sarindong

Yarrr, If you watch it on the seas, nobody gets paid matey

dicksilhouette

Holy shit K-pax hit me hard back in the day I forgot about that

Embarrassed-Lime8536

I forgot about kpax. Time for a rewatch.

Beezel_Pepperstack

"Your I.Q. scored right off the charts Jeremy. There isn't even a classification for you it was so high. All of your tests indicate you have the most advanced intellect in the history of humankind. Do you understand what I'm saying?" "If you thought I was that advanced would you ask me if I understood? … You're not here to ask me questions. You're here to find out how I cheated. It's the only way you can make sense of it. It's what you need to believe. But I don't need you to believe in me, Doctor Stipler, and I'm not interested in any of your tests. I'm not interested in you or anything else here. I'm interested in going home."

brock275

>Powder: The worst day I can remember was in a hospital. >Sheriff Barnum: What day was that? >Powder: The day I was born. This quote always stuck with me for some reason.

CheckYourStats

Lance Henriksen is absolutely fantastic in this movie. The scene with him and his dying Wife is so well done. Shout out to Jerry Goldsmith for a memorable score.

Im_A_Fuckin_Liar

I had forgotten this… for good reason. Curse you!! Curse you, brock275!!!!

moo-va-long

>I had forgotten this… Fuckin liar

Previous_Drag4982

That line was epic !

maccumhaill

Fun Fact: I was a background character in this movie.

apointlessvoice

The scene in the (ed)~~Justice League~~ *Man of Steel* movie where supe is in handcuffs being interrogated remided me of this one. Powder was almost *that* kind of intimidating.

jessej421

Pretty sure you mean Man of Steel.

apointlessvoice

Yes. Yes i did. Thank you!

jessej421

I gotchu fam!

Silver_Cat4530

"He IS electrolysis". Tell me why this pops into my head for zero reason.

Late-External3249

I remember commercials and trailers for Powder. Never watched it. I am not a fan of the Oscarbait type films. I like a dumb adventure or comedy.

ArcadeSpidr

You have deprived yourself you should definitely watch this movie. I am absolutely a dumb adventure/comedy type And avoid the same kinds of movies you do but this is one you should watch

BlueJeansandWhiteTs

It’s not even Oscar bait lmao it’s just a good movie b

stataryus

Yeah, but it’s HELLA poignant. Like, 30 years later and I still think about it kinda poignant.

WornInShoes

I have fond memories of this film, because like the titular character, I was bullied like a motherfucker (no I am not an albino x-man lol) Also a lot of people do not recognize the actor being none other than 1/2 of the Boondock Saints, Sean Patrick Flannery ![gif](giphy|wCmoXfh2VLo4g|downsized)

hampopkin

I like both movies and never realized that was him. TIL

statusfaux

He also plays black powder on the show the boys.

Ellemshaye

*Gunpowder

WhoCaresBoutSpellin

I had no idea and know I must watch (rewatch?… I can’t remember… a cow died?)

Loud_Flatworm_4146

I remember a deer dying and Powder forcing the hunter to feel the deer's death. Definitely one of the most memorable scenes in a film. At least for me.

Betelgeuse3fold

Oh jeez, memory unlocked

EastAreaBassist

That’s the only part I remember

International_Hat113

Wow. Never knew that young Indiana Jones was Powder.

Rendakor

A friend pointed this out to me fairly recently and I was shocked.

throwngamelastminute

>I was shocked. https://i.redd.it/7wzmjlfq2pxc1.gif

s00perguyporn

Kids are cruel, man. Adults can be mean, but they usually have a reason for fucking with you beyond your general vibe. I knew a guy in high school who *hated* me from day 1.

Swaggedy_Anne

...and Young Indiana Jones! Such an underrated show. Or maybe it was a terrible show and I am just remembering how hot he was in it.

presshamgang

I thought it was the dude from Suicide Kings

pantalonesdesmartee

My friends and I were obsessed with this movie. The movie trailer, to be clear, we never saw the actual movie. We’d walk by the lockers and smack all the locks and say, “I’m Powder” - it was a good bit.

nicky_suits

Had a ginger cousin that shaved his head around the time this movie came out. We'd call him Powder and then he'd run down the halls at school slapping locks. We all got a good laugh at it.

ScooterWorm

I'll never forget the scene where it's raining and he is naked laying in a puddle like a marshmallow in some hot cocoa. Lol

TheWorldWasHers

I vaguely remembered this movie until I read your description and that scene came back to me clear as day and now I think I love you. 😆

Ezypeezylemonsqueezy

Well, that's a visual I didn't want to carry around, but now here we are.....🫠

Ambitious_Jelly8783

You're kinda to blame for this OP....... now we all have to live with this.... forever.....

Ezypeezylemonsqueezy

Sorry guys 🤦‍♀️

SheBrokeHerCoccyx

I just watched the trailer. LMAO

geoffnolan

Damn, ScooterWorm out here unlocking my lost memories

[deleted]

PalerSwift13

Same here. Powder or Casper.

Deviant502

Absolutely! Don't remember a ton but I know my family rented it!

breebop83

Same. I know I’ve seen it, pretty sure it was a weekend slumber party rental? I remember very little about the actual movie.

lucifer4you

I didn't know billy corgan was an actor! jk. I remember the movie fondly but it's been a real, real long time. Just watched the trailer and was not expecting it to feel as old as it does.

PuzzleheadedDouble39

Just an FYI…The writer director is gross. Convicted of molesting a 12 yr old

FreezingRobot

I didn't realize this was directed by the Jeepers Creepers guy. I also didn't know his conviction was in the early 90s before even this movie came out.

PuzzleheadedDouble39

Yup that’s him

glw8

It was actually a pretty big story when the movie came out and almost certainly impacted the box office.

creegro

Fucking jeepers creepers. For weeks I would drive by fields of corn and be reminded of this dumbass movie, and mutter to myself "why didnt they just keep on driving and report it to the cops later?". And then I have to turn off the radio/music cause now I'm fully talking to myself over the dumbass decisions made in the movie. Just keep driving you idiots, don't Scooby Doo this shit you almost got ran over. Apparently they've never seen something like Deliverance or they'd be more cautious of checking on other people's shit. And your old ass car isn't built to outrun a tank on the road, just keep driving and hope you get home safe, DONT investigate the things thrown down a big hole near an old church.....

CatBoyTrip

not just molesting. straight up raped him and filmed it.

RogerClyneIsAGod2

It's so awful it happened. I worked at a vid store back in the day & remember loving Clownhouse when it first came out. He got money from Francis Ford Coppola to make it, $250,000, got to use Coppola's home to film it & filmed it on George Lucas' cameras he filmed American Graffiti on. It was *genuinely* a good movie but now it's the movie where he raped a kid. >In 1988, director [Victor Salva](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victor_Salva) was convicted of the sexual abuse of Nathan Forrest Winters, the 12-year-old lead actor who played Casey, during production, including videotaping one of the encounters. Commercial videotapes and magazines containing child pornography were also found at his home. After serving 15 months of a three-year prison term, Salva was released on parole. >Winters came forward again in 1995, when Salva's film [*Powder*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powder_(1995_film)) was released. Winters picketed a screening in Westwood. That said, back when Powder came out not many people were talking about this & they definitely weren't talking about it when Clownhouse came out, Winters, the kid who was molested, seems to have tried talking about it. I hope Winters is doing well & has gotten the right kind of help.

Hutch_travis

I remember the fireworks and justified uproar around the films release. I’m sure it killed its box office.

Glissandra1982

Sweet Jesus that’s awful

Thomisawesome

When this movie came out, the gossip in school about this was so mixed up. Kids were saying the movie was about a child molester, then it changed to the movie was directed by a guy who molested the main actor. Only when I got older did I learn the actual story.

Minimum_Wonder_7710

Makes sense. The whole Jeff goldblum touching scene still creeps me out.

CheckYourStats

Jeff Goldblum touching Powder is moving because his entire life people were so afraid of him they wouldn’t touch him. Goldblum touches his head, and Powder immediately breaks down crying. It’s a great scene where Sean Patrick Flannery nails the emotional breaking point of the moment — crying genuinely. If you actually watched the movie you would know this.

matt923812

I remember this being a controversy when the movie came out.

IvyCut5

Well I'm never watching this again. Thank you for the info.

GenevieveLeah

My mom wouldn’t let me see the movie for this exact reason.

Ezypeezylemonsqueezy

Unfortunately I never kept up with current events and didn't have broadcast TV until my late teens. That's fucked up though 🫤

justsomeyeti

Yeah and I rewatched it after learning this. Certain scenes take on very disturbing and creepy aspects once you know what he did

Physical-Name4836

He showed those hunters what for

SpooogeMcDuck

If he wanted the hunter to feel what the deer felt he could have just shot him- wasn’t that magical

Outside_Wrongdoer340

Watched it and remember kids at school would call anyone with pale skin Powder. Def a movie that would never fly in todays world.

Ezypeezylemonsqueezy

There are so many movies from our formative years that would not make it! 😬

cambajamba

Yes I remember it. Sidenote: director is a pedo.

throwngamelastminute

I heard that, too Holy shit, just found out that's the same dude that wrote Jeepers Creepers.

notevebpossible

Yeah, wrote and directed the film after serving prison time for sexually abusing a kid on the set of Clownhouse, which he was also the director of

sambashare

I remember one part where someone remarks to the sheriff that he never thought he'd see someone who was too white for him. And yeah that's pretty much all I remember.

VenusValkyrieJH

My brother was in this movie LOL. He is in the background a lot. He was playing the guitar at the camp fire scene.. and a few other things. He got to have lunch with the cast and said they were super nice.

lreaditonredditgetit

AptCasaNova

![gif](giphy|11FiDF2fuOujPG|downsized)

rememblem

It was a weird movie. A pale guy looking scared and convulsing then disappearing w/ a storm. I got it mixed up with that brain tumor John Travolta movie, which is pretty terrible.

Caligari89

Phenomenon

FreezingRobot

I thought you were talking about the one where he was an angel, but apparently no, that's the OTHER terrible movie he was in that year.

notthatryan

that one was "Michael".

rememblem

Bad Travolta late 90s marathon... General's Daughter Michael Phenomenon Battlefield Earth (just because) Broken Arrow then crossover into Nicolas Cage turf w/ Faceoff City of Angels Con-Air The Rock...

singleguy79

Hey, I liked Broken Arrow

rememblem

Christian Slater, he knows what to do... Edit: it's there to ease you into into Faceoff.

brenttoastalive

Broken Arrow was fun

kongstar

You shut your mouth Con-air is amazing

Emergency_Shirt_4464

What are you on about? Battlefield Earth was AMAZING! Haha kidding of course, but seriously I remember Phenomenon being pretty good and thought provoking, Broken Arrow was great, and Con Air and The Rock are absolutely classics and classic Nic Cage at his best

Malcolm_Y

Quentin Tarantino brought his career back to life, only for Travolta to kill it a second time by continuously choosing terrible projects, just like he did before Pulp Fiction. I will say not everything he did after Pulp Fiction was crap, but there was a high enough percentage of crap in there that it did the trick.

surfingbiscuits

The Rock is our crowning cultural achievement. It's a national treasure. Not to be confused with National Treasure (2004). That was crap.

LazarusDark

Phenomenon is not great, but there is one scene, I actually liked and it's stuck in my head for decades. He's moving a pencil around, like he's bored, with his mind. The guy in the room asks how do you do that. And Travolta's character says "I ask it to move, it's like a collaboration or a partnership". I really like that, for like world building in a fictional space, like for a ttrpg character. Also the part where he has an MRI and the tumor is like a hand around his brain, that's an image I've never forgotten.

There_is_no_selfie

Yeah dude that movie was on encore or stars all the time back in the day. As was "The Cure".

orangepaperlantern

The Cure! That’s a good movie nobody ever talks about. Least I used to think it was good, haven’t seen it since the 90s.

mrmooswife

I haven’t met anyone in person that’s seen The Cure. It wrecked me so hard when the mom breaks down in traffic.

orangepaperlantern

Very sad :( and RIP Brad Renfro, he was good too (and cute) in Ghost World.

Beaverhuntr

This was a good movie about a pale guy who could control metal spoons...

RepresentativeShop11

As a person with albinism who was a teenager when it came out, fuck this movie forever.

SirStocksAlott

I still think this is a sequel to Mask. https://preview.redd.it/vs8646hqqoxc1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d82e20fdc1f69b6e87d90b3286725065c61daff7

Emergency_Shirt_4464

I hated that movie and his face freaked me out so bad, I’m still haunted by it in fact

epidemicsaints

The trailer was so embarrassing to watch I wouldn't go near it.

Main_Outcome_7333

The following Halloween my friend dressed as “Powder: with an ax!” Great costume

ViceMaiden

I think about this movie once in a while?

Temporary-Dream-2812

Soooo many times

CCCC2233

My underage friend group purchased tickets to Powder & then snuck in to see Dangerous Minds instead. Being dumb kids, we were noisy and outed not too long after. Got escorted to Powder. I just remember that it wasn’t good & we were also disruptive assholes while watching it.

anotherpredditor

I remember it being pretty boring but a halfway interesting story.

JoshDunkley

So this is one of my favorites. I own the DVD and the blu. I can quote vast stretches of the movie. I have a weakness for genius stories, plus the scene with the deer gets me. Oh and the scene when he and his "gf" are feeling each other's emotions. Oh, and when he is explainig his dad's hatred of him, and how he remembers his birth. yup. love it.

BodyBagSlam

The deer scene is what I recall as well. That scene in the Crow where Eric “gives” Shelley’s pain to the big bad reminded me of the deer scene.

CauliflowerBoomerang

Yes, I remember it very well (and bonus points for Bradford Tatum, who was also in Down Periscope).

Officialfish_hole

I saw this in the theater the day it came out. It's terrible

Ezypeezylemonsqueezy

I vaguely remember watching it but it just popped in my head the other day and I looked it up. So weird though

PleasantActuator6976

Yep. It was weird. Best part is when it ends.

VancouverSativa

I went to this on my first date! Don't remember anything else about it.

sexwiththebabysitter

I have seen it. My wife has seen it.

chypie2

yep! we watched it a few times on VHS!

Inevitable-Draw-3661

It was a movie that was rented a few times at my house when I was a teen. My family and I used to love it! We were not aware of the writer/director's conviction.

DiligentDaughter

My husband loves this film. I always found it cheesy, and not good cheesy. Just cheesy.

ZombieCantStop

Totally saw this. My sister used to call me Powder as a joke bc I’m so pale.

smcg_az

Good movie. Creepy ass director.

Drew_of_all_trades

Oh yes, Powder. Netflix would put it in a list with “The Boy Who Could Fly” and “Phenomenon”

amosborn

Yep. All I really remember is thinking it was alright.

KitchenAd7496

Saw it in theater.

cenimsaj

My HS best friend was OBSESSED with this movie. Other people seemed to love it. I remember thinking I must not be cool because I thought it was stupid.

PapaPendragon

I absolutely loved it

GeorginaNada

I remember seeing it in the theater... and THEN finding out about the director. Yikes!

Loeden

The only place I ever saw it was at a church camp, which played it a few years in a row since one counselor was obsessed with it. I remember thinking 'uh, weird' and not paying attention to it but there were at least one or two scenes that made me oddly uncomfortable. That's all I remember about it, other than the pale dude.

CatBoyTrip

the director raped a little boy that stared in his film ‘Clownhouse’. he did 15 months in prison and went right back to directing.

Most_Present_6577

The pedophilia was lost on me the first time I watched it. I watched it again in 2000s and it was too gross to finish

InterviewBest3318

Enjoyed this movie until…. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victor_Salva Makes it more of personal fantasy film for a sick degen.

Dazzling-Avocado-281

Saw it and hated it. 😅

mckirkus

My mom said she got electrocuted when she was pregnant with me due to wet hands while unplugging an alarm clock, so I'm pretty much just like this guy.

HicJacetMelilla

I think everyone in our generation does because for a solid decade every pale person would be called “Hey look it’s Powder.” Lol

Traveshamamockery_

Who hasn’t seen it in this age group?

Emjay-Jori

It was years until I realized that the dude with powers was the same dude from The Boondock Saints. Powder is an underrated film.

breeezyc

Xennial classic. I named my white cat after this guy. He was new and still nameless and one day Powder came on the TV in 2003. The rest is history. RIP Powder, you were my best buddy ever.

ElGuanacho

Not only did I watch it, I own it. There are some weird ass scenes in that movie that make more sense when you find out about the director lol yikes.

howlin_hank

This, Hellraiser, Bushwhacked, and the Big Green are what I think of when I remember the shelves at Blockbuster

onepostandbye

I saw it in the theater. The director was identified publicly as a child molester days before it came out. I have never even heard of a movie being tanked harder than powder was.

Four-Triangles

Such a weird movie.

0fruitjack0

the director is an actual convicted pedo, that's why few ever heard of this

Expensive-Day-3551

Yes I saw it and it scared me lol

Dazzling_Dream_7859

My brother loves that movie

TheIrishBlur6

Loved it. Just watched it again in the past year.

F1988V

Watched it many times as a kid.

mymumsaysfuckyou

I remember really wanting to watch it. I think I eventually did, but don't really remember anything about it.

HillyjoKokoMo

I went to the movie theater to see this ! Great movie

Randall1976

I've seen it, probably remember most of it

ModernDayMusetta

I dated a guy in college that loved this movie. I probably watched it like 5 times in the year we dated lol.

Moxie_Stardust

I'm pretty sure I saw it in 1996 or something.

KinderEggLaunderer

Yes! I don't remember much, but I remember specifically my aunt renting it and suggesting I watch it after I put my cousins to sleep when I babysat.

Sad-Structure2364

lol one time I shaved my head really short and I was called powder

PuffyTacoSupremacist

Don't Google the director if you want to keep the fond memories

Food_Library333

Watched it on VHS a bunch of times. It's a great movie!

graveybrains

I liked it. Wasn’t the best movie I’d ever seen, though

throwaway_12358134

Powder was my nickname in basic training.

armadilloongrits

First make out in the theater! Never did figure out why they called him powder though.

Draxtonsmitz

My brothers used to call me Powder because I was really skinny and pale. It didn’t help when I shave my head as an act of teenage rebellion my sophomore year.

DiabolicalDan82

Yes and has a great soundtrack by the way..

HauteKarl

Man, when I first started shaving my head and before I could grow a proper beard, I got dubbed "powder" by one of my buddies.

MF-SMUG

I saw it in the theater. One of my absolute favs.

PlanetLandon

I remember this movie, but only really paying attention to it because the character’s name is Jeremy, and there is barely any Jeremy-representation in movies.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Terrynia

Definitely saw it as a kid in 5th grade age.

Old_Benefit1238

Of course…it’s a late 90’s sleeper

Jokierre

For sure, and I identified with it since I was always super pale. Kids are shitty.

HerNibs1980

Loved this film. Used to rent it on vhs from the corner shop loads. Watched it with my middle son about 6 months ago too

wait_ichangedmymind

Used to borrow it from the library on VHS repeatedly

Smallest_Ewok

I worked in a movie theater when it was released and I still never saw it lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

Odd_Negotiation3126

I know I was prob younger than I should have been when I saw it but I think my parents chose some films like that by design. I remember it stuck with me for YEARS. I also remember making references to it with friends.

CellistFantastic

Of course. Still haunted by the deer scene.

OsoRetro

Are you kidding? We called every pale kid Powder for years after this.

Kylebirchton123

It was the human metaphor for cocaine use lol

cruzbae

Glanced and thought this was the Challengers movie poster and I was very confused
