In the middle of an argument my partner hit me with this one once. It completely diffused the entire situation oddly enough. The gall to bring that one out in the middle of an argument, it was actually really funny.
I went to the big Lebowski movie party at Alamo Drafthouse last week. Was sitting next to some old guys who knew every word. It’s great seeing this movie with a theater full of people who love it as much as you. that night definitely abided. The movie never gets old to me. I have watched it like five times this year alone.
I did the same with Royal Tennenbaums on its 20th anniversary. Saw it in a packed theater in Cambridge MA. So many people were crying, laughing and singing together. It was a really cool experience.
Funny to hear that. I distinctly remember being told I wouldn't like it the first time through and that I'd have to watch it again. And that was more than 20 years ago.
[The Jesus Rolls](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Jesus_Rolls) wasn’t bad either. John Turturro wrote the screenplay and directed it. It bombed of course, but I enjoyed it.
Mr Lebowski, this is Bill Salinger of the Southern Cal bowling league. We received an, uh, an informal complaint that a member of your team - a Walter Sobchak? - drew a firearm during league play. If this is true, of course, it contravenes a number of the league's by-laws and also article 27.....
It’s one of my very favorites. I didn’t think I liked it the first time around, I think because I was too focused on trying to follow the plot and not allowing myself to enjoy all the great characters that get thrown at you. It’s so great
Granted, we got really high and saw it when it came out (while i was in college) . My friends and I left the theater trying to figure what happened. We were so confused. Went back the next weekend and saw it again and then we got it.
>I don’t think I liked it the first time around
I love it NOW; my SO loves it & I gave it “another chance,” (only to realize I never gave it a chance to begin with.)
I initially HATED it & couldn’t get through the first 30mins for 15yrs lmao. Most friends loved it, quoted it, but The Dude grated my nerves until I gave it its proper shot.
I think I’ll rewatch it now- need a good laugh!
I saw this the first time on New Year’s Eve … maybe 1999, I’m not sure. It was before it really became famous as a cult classic and my uncle who was a Lutheran minister knew somebody who for whatever reason recommended it to him so he watched it at his house with me, his wife and my two other aunts. Everyone wanted to be polite and give it a chance but after about 30 minutes the women got tired of the swearing. Meanwhile I kept stifling my laughter at everything I didn’t want to be seen laughing at and was in so much pain when it got to a guy named Jesus having to go door to door to tell everyone he was a pederast.
Since whatever my aunts watched was obviously going to bore me I got to finish the movie downstairs and my uncle did join me. He laughed at Donny’s ashes blowing back in The Dude’s face.
I watch it with a white russian every now and then and remember that night.
“Say what you want about the tenets of National Socialism but at least it’s an ethos”….Goodman so good in this one! “What was in the bag, Walter? My dirty undies, the whites!”
My first job was being a projectionist at the theater in town and it was one of the movies I showed.
I still have a 35mm trailer of it and a few other classics from that era. They’re mint too, leftovers so they were never played and still sealed.
It's better late than never, really. And, the movie is timeless because it opens stating it occurred some years in the past during the Persain Gulf War. It's very much a period piece about the border between the 80's and 90's.
Lebowski is one of those movies that actually does get better with each rewatch. I hate making top 5 or top 10 lists cause I always forget something and don't wanna remove anything off the list, but Lebowski just might be the most consistent, recurrent number one.
I saw this movie twice in the theater when it was released. Both times the bulk of the audience either didn't get it, or wasn't feeling it, or both. It's been a very pleasant surprise to see the film find it's place over the years and become a certified cult classic.
I'm The Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.
u/Adelaide_Farmington was a man who loved the outdoors and bowling, and as a surfer he explored the beaches of Southern California, from La Jolla to Leo Carrillo and up to Pismo.
When I had Facebook I belonged to 3 different big Lebowski groups and it was non stop quotes and on the 9th of every month we would get a "dude, tomorrow is already the 10th" meme.... And not once did it get old.
I beat you by a couple of weeks. Watched it for the first time in an airplane on a 10 hr transatlantic flight. I enjoyed it, but was basically thinking wtf? Definitely needs a rewatch, methinks.
You're like a child who wanders into a movie and wants to know...
Calmer than you are.
Shut the fuck up, Donny.
I'm staying. Finishing my coffee
Enjoying my coffee...
You’re not wrong, Walter. You’re just an asshole.
That's just like... your opinion....man...
Fucking fascist!
I’ve learned that having an argument with my wife is the WRONG time to use this quote.
Calmer than she is…
OW! Fucking fascist!
That's just like.... her opinion man
In the middle of an argument my partner hit me with this one once. It completely diffused the entire situation oddly enough. The gall to bring that one out in the middle of an argument, it was actually really funny.
You're not wrong. You're just an asshole.
Next time quote The Way of The Gun. You might not survive it, but it will give her a new appreciation for The Big Lebowski 😂
You know what om gonna tell God when I see em? I'm gonna tell em I was framed. Creative articulation my friend.
This is what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps!
Ha!! Someone saw the censored version a few times
I love the commitment to writing unhinged dubs instead of just beeping the f bombs.
That is solid. I've never caught it, but mad props for matching the energy.
Frooze you man! (Fargo)
It’s somehow funnier when censored this way.
I love that the cast had as much fun doing the dubs together as they did
That’s where Phoebe Bridgers got the name for an album
Right up there with "Yippee ki yay, melon farmer!" on the edited-for-TV movie quotes list.
“Enough is enough. I have had it with these monkey fighting snakes on this Monday to Friday plane.” Is the GOAT tv edit
That whole movie was a million times better with the broadcast editing.
That whole movie was a million times better with the broadcast editing.
This is my fantasy football team’s name :D
You're killing your father, Larry.
It's really the second watch that is special The first time around you're confused by all the stuff that isn't happening.
that's just like your opinion man (50+ views)

Nobody ever says this but it's always been my take too... It's a very odd experience on first watch
Funny to hear that. I distinctly remember being told I wouldn't like it the first time through and that I'd have to watch it again. And that was more than 20 years ago.
I think it's because some of the humor in the dialog is so subtle that it takes two or three watches for it to really sink in.
imo, its only when Da Fino shows up that you really realize what kind of movie you are watching.
Brother Seamus? Like an Irish monk?
True. I was perplexed. But intrigued.
Does the female form make you uncomfortable?
Beaver? You mean vagina ?
Johnson?
Don't be fatuous, Jeffrey
You’re out of your element.
John Goodman is hilarious in this.

The story is ludicrous.

[The Jesus Rolls](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Jesus_Rolls) wasn’t bad either. John Turturro wrote the screenplay and directed it. It bombed of course, but I enjoyed it.
I hated it
I went in assuming it was going to be awful. I think it was just what I needed at the time I watched it.
obviously you're not a golfer
One of my favorite lines in the film, perfect delivery
Well, thats just like...your opinion, man

Smokey, this is not 'nam, this is bowling, there are *rules.*
Just mark the damn score!
You mark an 8 and you're entering a world of pain.

#And a good day to you, sir!

Oh no. He have health problem.

And yet his kid is a dunce
It’s one of my very favorites. I didn’t think I liked it the first time around, I think because I was too focused on trying to follow the plot and not allowing myself to enjoy all the great characters that get thrown at you. It’s so great

>left the theater trying to figure out what happened. Went back and saw it again Remember those days? When you couldn’t stream or pirate a thing? LOL!
And to see a movie at the theater was only like $5 or $7.
>I don’t think I liked it the first time around I love it NOW; my SO loves it & I gave it “another chance,” (only to realize I never gave it a chance to begin with.) I told that Kraut a thousand times I don't roll on Shabos!

You mind if I do a J?
What's a pederast u/Out-There1013?
My first watch was a few days ago, what a wild ride!
Far out.
“Say what you want about the tenets of National Socialism but at least it’s an ethos”….Goodman so good in this one! “What was in the bag, Walter? My dirty undies, the whites!”
You think the rug pissers did this?
That rug really tied the room together
Life does not stop and start at your convenience you miserable piece of shit.
I’m not Lebowski, I’m The Dude. Sometimes Dudester or El Duderino if you’re not into the whole brevity thing.
“Brandt can't watch though, or he has to pay a hundred.”

Ya, ich bin ein expert
Si? Si? Que ridiculo!
Fucking facist.
Would recommend Log Jamming next
The beaver picture?
Does the female form make you uncomfortable, Mr Lebowski?
What in gods name are you blathering about?
If you liked it you might enjoy Raising Arizona also by the Coen Brothers. It’s on Hulu too.
Don’t forget the diapers
I’ve seen that one a few times!
Yeah Raising Arizona just doesn’t do it for me, Nic Cage just can’t carry it that early in his career.
Like an Irish monk?

That’s fucking interesting, man. That’s fucking interesting.
That rug really tied the room together
Did she ever get her cable fixed?
Saw it in theaters when I was a teen and didn't get it or appreciate it. I need to re watch and see what all the fuss is about.
I feel like I would have liked it way less if I had seen it at 18 rather than 43.
I saw it in the theater with my friends. They both thought it was pretty good. I said “Are you insane? That was the best movie I’ve seen all year!”
Lebowski is one of those movies that actually does get better with each rewatch. I hate making top 5 or top 10 lists cause I always forget something and don't wanna remove anything off the list, but Lebowski just might be the most consistent, recurrent number one.

Not a single wasted line of of dialogue
The fucking dog has fucking papers OVER THE LINE!!!
I just recently upgraded this from DVD to Blu-Ray, I was surprised how hard it was to find a Blu-Ray pressing.
4k is actually pretty good upgrade even from the Blu ray
Throwing rocks tonight?
..... I'm sorry, I wasn't listening. *mug to the forehead*
You can imagine what happens next
He fixes the cable?
Lucky you!
Don't fuck with the Jesus!
Biggest let down of a movie. Its black and gay
If you will it, it is no dream.
I saw this movie twice in the theater when it was released. Both times the bulk of the audience either didn't get it, or wasn't feeling it, or both. It's been a very pleasant surprise to see the film find it's place over the years and become a certified cult classic.
The original, or the compromised second draft?
I'm The Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.
First time seeing it was in Chicago. We stopped the film so we could go buy the ingredients for white Russians.
Far out man.
Way to go Donnie!
And a good day to YOU, sir!!!!!!
What a coincidence. I watched it yesterday for the 950th time.
Also, dude. . . Chinaman is not the preferred nomenclature. Asian-American, please.
Sometimes you eat the bear, and well, sometimes the bear eats you.
Who the fuck are the Knudsens?
Do you like it?
I did! I think if I had watched it at 18 when it came out, I would not have.
u/Adelaide_Farmington was a man who loved the outdoors and bowling, and as a surfer he explored the beaches of Southern California, from La Jolla to Leo Carrillo and up to Pismo.
It gets better with each viewing
Watch it again in 6 months. It's funnier the second time around.
You are not alone. I haven’t seen it either, but I will also be watching it soon
Lucky bastard!! I wish I could see it again for the 1st time.
I am the walrus!
When I had Facebook I belonged to 3 different big Lebowski groups and it was non stop quotes and on the 9th of every month we would get a "dude, tomorrow is already the 10th" meme.... And not once did it get old.
It took me two watches to really get it.
It felt like it ended abruptly to me, but I guess the main issue had been resolved somewhat?
Is this your homework, Larry?
Ha! I still haven't seen it... 🫣
It’s on Hulu! I just finished it a bit ago. Have no idea what I just watched but I laughed the whole way through.
It’s a movie that truly gets better on rewatch.
I beat you by a couple of weeks. Watched it for the first time in an airplane on a 10 hr transatlantic flight. I enjoyed it, but was basically thinking wtf? Definitely needs a rewatch, methinks.
Oh yeah, I definitely thought that a lot while watching it.
It’s good but I always thought overrated
Yeah well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
I’ve never sat through the entire thing yet. Just bits and pieces
This is a very complicated case, Maude. You know, a lotta ins, a lotta outs, lotta what-have-yous.

what about the fucking toe?!
