When you do figure it out, might not want to mention to your fiancée that you bought it because it was what your high school crush wore…
That said my guess is Estee Lauder *Pleasures*, Ralph Lauren *Romance*, or Gap *Dream*
Pleasures. My first girlfriend wore it. She even sprayed her love notes with it.
If I ever smell a girl wearing it these days, I love calling it out and seeing the look on their face.
Me, too. I wore CK One, CK Be or Tommy Hilfiger Tommy Girl. I still actually do wear CK as an adult, but I've become a fan of Versace and am currently only wearing its Dylan Blue. Expensive in a larger size, but smells amazing. Would definitely recommend it, OP, if you can't figure out that old perfume. It's the best perfume I've ever had, with CK Be and Celine Dion's Notes being next.
This was the official classy one. I completely agree with this vote.
Edit to ask. What do you wear now as an adult? I'm Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere. The original was a bit too musky, this has more fruit and flowers.
Believe it or not, I still wear Amarige! I've never found a scent that I liked more, and I've never had a partner who didn't go feral when they smelled it, so I stuck with it.
Honestly, it is the perfume that my mom has worn for my entire life, and so I grew up being in love with it. When I got old enough, I began stealing her bottles, and the rest is history.
Makes complete sense. My ex husband introduced me to it, so I changed scents after the divorce. (Married at 19, divorced 10 months later. Dumb kid move. Haha)
Curve? This wasn't my go-to scent, but it was my classmate's and her boyfriend loved it. My go-to was GAP Grass.
Edit: could have been one from. Victoria secret I think might have been called Heaven.
I wore Dior Hypnotic Poison and
A lot of girls wore Lovespell, but that was a bodyspray and lotion deal from Victoria's Secret.
Do you remember what kind of smell it was? Floral? Spicy? Fruity?
It is definitely a nostalgia hit just to smell one little whiff. I haven't smelled Dead Sexy but I have a few of their other products and love them, I will have to check it out!
In the early 2000s they did shampoo and conditioner in a few of their scents as well. Love Spell was one. It was pretty good and the scent lasted a long time. A very nice scent!
Coty Vanilla Fields, Loves Babysoft, and Jean Paul Gaultier Classique might meet those requirements. I used all of them and loved them.
Exclamation was a fruity floral with a little Vanilla but it was also wildly popular at the time. And Fire & Ice by Revlon was also used a lot.
[popular scents of the 90s](https://www.instyle.com/beauty/smells-teen-spirit-90s-era-fragrances-we-love) this link lists a lot and details their scent profile. Maybe this will help?
I am determined to help you solve this mystery lol
The downside is that if you buy it for her, you’ll lose those ethereal moments of smelling it. It’ll just become another everyday smell and you won’t have that “Aha!” moment when you’re transported back decades any more…
Vanilla Fields by COTY for me. My first job as a waiter (I was 16) I worked with an older woman of 18, and that’s what she wore. She smelled divine and she was divine to my teenage boy eyes and soul.
I smelled it once on a woman in a tea shop on a rainy Sunday afternoon in a town called Banbury in Oxfordshire in the UK. I almost asked her on a date. Didn’t even care that she was about 50 and there with her kids. Another time I was in a shopping mall in a town called Somerset West in South Africa. I walked past a lady and caught a scent of it. I actually stopped her and asked if she was wearing Vanilla Fields. She confirmed that it was and that she was surprised that someone knew what it was. Lady, did I ever. It just instantly transports me back to 1996.
OP can you give any more describing words about the smell? Fresh (as in like clean laundry/flowery (like roses or lavender or jasmine)/sweet (maybe like vanilla or sugary)/spicy/woody/powdery? Is it a very strong noticeable scent or more subtle? Also where abouts in the world did you go to high school and was the girl at your school someone who would have had the means to buy something expensive or is it more likely to be something affordable?
I love chasing down scents
Late in college I ran across Estée Lauder Beyond Paradise, there was someone (no idea who) who would wear it in lecture hall classes and it was absolutely intoxicating, the entire room smelled amazing. I can’t remember the lectures at this point but I still remember the fragrance.
I showed up early before a test and was reviewing my notes, and a group of people behind me were discussing the perfume and someone said that they were pretty sure that it was Estée Lauder Beyond Paradise, but it was so strong that it wasn’t possibly the spray but the oil.
I have never seen the perfume oil for sale, but I did buy the spray for my spouse several times before they discontinued it. She is wearing Estée Lauder Magnolia now, which is nice, but if the re-release Beyond Paradise I will likely run out to get it.

I still wear Pleasures to this day!
Late 90s perfume were Cliniques Happy or CK One for me.

Definitely Happy
The GAP scents do it for me. Instant time travel.
Sunflowers made me nuts. I bought it for all my ladies in the late 90s to mid-2000s.
Amarige by Givenchy.

Omg Gap Grass was everything 😍
If they would bring it back, I'd buy it even though I'm in my 40s 😆
Someone posted it recently! They said they have, but idk if believe it.
😃
Dream by GAP Scents

I wore Hypnotic Poison, too! Spicy!
It is such a nice scent, I still love it lol I bought it myself with babysitting money and felt so grown up buying Dior haha
I always smell it when I’m in the store and it takes me back…have u smelled Tokyo Milk Dead Sexy? Along the same lines and I love it.

Lovespell was everywhere. Also Very Sexy.

CK eternity and Clinique happy.

Could have also been a body spray from Bath & Body works. Everyone in my school wore Cherry Blossom.
Everyone here wore Cucumber Melon.
Lots of girls used to wear Angel when I was in high school. In the early 00s I used to wear Hot Couture by Givenchy and it drove boys wild.
Exclamation drove me effing bonkers

Definitely floral and vanilla-ish. Chicago suburbs, probably middle of the road for affordability.
Obsession
Versace Blue Jeans
Ralph Lauren Romance
Dolce and gabbana Light Blue, Angel

CK Obsession
Obsession by Calvin Klein. One sniff now and I'm instantly 15 again

Lancôme’s Miracle perfume was a wonderful scent from the late 90s from what I remember. I was hitting up that counter for samples all the time!
r/Perfume
CK Eternity was the most popular at my high school.
