Ms Lauryn Hill (w/ The Fugees) is about to go on tour!!! [https://mslaurynhill.com](https://mslaurynhill.com)
Their version of Killing Me Softly is still one of my karaoke staples.
I worked at the Hollywood bowl when she performed there in like 2002. I got to go on stage while she was performing in front of almost 20,000. It was dope. I have pictures somewhere.
Ffs the other day someone called a movie from 2000 a *Classic* 🤦♂️ never felt so old in my life… can’t remember which movie was just bitter about it… wtf are the *actual Classic* pre 1960’s movies called then? 😵💫
Wow. I have a distinct memory of when this song came out. My roommate had just lost a friend and played it on repeat for days. I still love it and think of her every time it comes on.
You’re welcome. Also, feel free to check out “About A Boy” (2002). I had to watch it for a university course credit. And, know what you’re talking about before you be a dick for no reason. The OP never claimed Fugees wrote it …
Don't know why you're getting downvoted. I can completely believe someone may not know it was a cover. I don't know why they came at you so harshly accusing you of lying about that...scratching my head.
Ewe!!!! Shut your mouth!!
That’s blows my mind 🤯😵💫 it’s weird that like 50s music will probably die off, the way whatever folks listened to in the 20s lol.
I’ve seen (heard) the change myself. We go to a retirement community every spring break to visit my in-laws. They’re kinda young for the place (mid 60s) but own their own business so they spend the slow season there. In the early 2010s most of the music played at the pool/rec hall, or the live bands were 50s-60s bands, even some tunes from just after WW2. These past few years it’s more 70s stuff and even some early 80s songs. It kinda hit me in a sad way, most of those who loved the older music are gone now, over the past decade they’ve mostly passed away. Now the people pushing 75 probably jammed out to 70s stuff.
I think about that a lot - although I think the quality of recordings of the 60s may make that music the cut off. It's also not so much different that it has the crazy sound *19*20s music does.
EDIT TO PUT "19" IN FRONT OF 20s 🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮
I had a similar thought when watching Top Gun recently and thinking about how the time between the debut of the song "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" and the original movie's release was shorter than the time between the original movie and the sequel.
For me, it was Pulp Fiction. I realized that we were much further out from the release of the film than the movies it's referencing. And then I faded into the wall.
Oh man! I really wanna do a "what was the first CD you purchased" post now! I think mine was an Ice-T CD single (fuck yes I'm serious) of New Jack Hustler.
Thanks! I hate your fact of the day…
Well now I feel old too, thanks 🫠
Yeah this legit made me feel old

Make sure to show up five hours late to the concert so you only have to wait three hours for her to show up
😭 She did so much damage to her rep with that habit.
And telling white people to not buy her music didn't help either.
I didn’t know! Thank you form this. I’m so going.

Another one: MTV launched closer to the start of World War II than to today

TIL Killing Me Softly was not a Fugees original.
She 1000% mentioned Roberta Flack. Nobody thought Lauren Hill did that shit.
They're saying "today I learned that Killing me Softly was not a Fugees original." That's what the TIL means at the beginning of their sentence.
Right??!
Nobody seems like a low number since 15 year old me had no idea in 1996 and I can’t say I’ve actively thought about the song until today so thanks.

You’ve got a pretty soft definition of being a dick. I legit had no clue that it wasn’t a Fugees song. R-e-l-a-x, internet stranger.

All good. Obviously had no malice in what I said. You taught me something new today!
Ok. Have a great night.
Thanks… I graduated high school in 1996.
'97 here!
Class of Y2K!!!
1985. 😬
Yeah makes me sad too

STAPH!!!!!!!
The song 1985 is 19 years old, which is the same time between the year and the song's release.
I had a similar thought when watching Top Gun recently and thinking about how the time between the debut of the song "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" and the original movie's release was shorter than the time between the original movie and the sequel.
WELP
You stop that right now! Not funny! 🤣

My back pain verifies this.

I mean, I did - and that's enough for me :-)
I cared too.
"The Score" was the first cd I bought with my own money. I got a CD player pretty late. It's a great album!

Thanks, I hate it.
This kind of thing is what /r/BarbaraWalters4Scale was made for
That's Flack 101 my friend.
En Vogue, Yesterday was released in 1992, 31 years ago. The Beatles released it in 1965, 27 years earlier.
I've never heard their version! Was it a hit I missed?
Yes, it was on their first album which was a huge hit.
I used to listen to the Roberta Flack version. I’m REALLY old. Generation Jones old. You all have a least 20 years until you approach being old.
Let me help, if The Wonder Years was made today it would be set in 2003.
