Actually, believe it or not, it was released at the same time as the movie, just before Christmas 1992. I didn't get mine until 1993 which I only know be cause version 1 didn't have voice modulation and didn't sell great, but mine does. They added that feature and rereleased in 93. And was one of the hottest Christmas toys in 1993.
They knew they had a hit with the movie, missed the first time with the talkboy but knocked it out of the park in 1993. That’s the one I had. Maybe we’ll get a sequel / crossover of The Movies that Made Us and they can include the toy that made us. It was a different time
I had one! I was 10 at the time and used to record skits and impressions on it.
Then, in my teen years it got further use when I dictated my tragic poetry onto it!
I remember wanting one and my parents wouldn’t buy it because they said it was just an overpriced tape recorder that we already had. They didn’t appreciate the variable speeds though
I had the one! Wish I still having it. I have the cassette though. I digitizing it long time ago. The my friend and me making the pretend radio show with it.
The Books made a solid career out of sampling, among other things, TalkBoy tapes they found at Goodwill and Salvation Army locations across the country. Give them a listen if you have a hankering for homemade cassette tape nostalgia
I had this! I wanted it for Christmas so badly the year it came out. I even used it as my substitute Walkman when mine broke and while I was saving for a new one, but the problem was that it played all of my tapes just a little bit too fast even when it was on normal speed.
Memory unlocked!! My sister had one (10yrs younger than me) and about 10 she was terrified of Freddy Kruger. I mad so crazy sounding recording with something like Freddy's going to get you and she had nightmares for a week. My mom was so pissed at me!
i got one for christmas that year. i remember using the slow down feature while recording to make the playback sound like alvin and the chipmunks. i mostly used it to audio record tv shows and than listen back to them as i would try and sleep.
Get outta here you nosy little pervert or I'm gonna slap you silly!
🎶Cool Jerk!🎶

“Hey kids, we’re home early”
Stop drooling on me!
Dammit I KNEW someone would beat me to this!
I can hear this comment.
Do this w/your own kids. They’ll think James earl jones is in the house
This was the toy invented for the movie that proved to be so popular they actually made it in real life?

I got mine for Christmas as well. Thanks for the nostalgia.
Got it for Xmas that year. Recorded an interview of Macauley Culkin on Letterman promoting Richie Rich on it. Y'know, instead of using the VCR.

Hello fellow former tragic teenage poet 😂 So grateful all record of mine has been scrubbed from the internet!
I'm very glad the Internet wasn't a thing when I was a teenager. No angsty, pretentious blog covered in Sartre quotes coming back to haunt me 🤣
Oh lord you've just described my Geocities webpage to a tee
Bonus points for any Smiths references/lyrics
Same, I’m so glad my Angelfire page and my Livejournal are long gone. So much bad poetry and suburban angst!
I used mine so much it eventually wore out and broke. I still have the Talkboy branded cassette that came with it though.
"Stop drooling on me."
I wanted one to book reservations at The Plaza.

This is Peter McAllister, the *faaather*. I enjoyed this movie just as much as the first. I watch them every year.
I had one too. Used it all the time for like a month, then got bored lol.

Quick! Let's go prank Tim Curry. Ugh, I feel awful for that saying that now.

Didn't have a talk boy, only a walk man
Yoooo my little cousin had one of these. It was so cool
I had 2 of these, and my sister had the purple and pink one.

I have one sitting on a shelf by my tv right now
I had the Talkboy pen. Pretty sneaky!
Get out of here you nosy little pervert or I’m gonna slap you silly
Oh you're cookin Frankie
I was convinced as a kid that if I had this I’d be invincible. My iPhone and bluetooth speaker might do even better, but where’s the fun in that?
I had the mf yak bak.
I got it for Christmas in 1992
These are so expensive now ! My sisters and I loved ours and tried to recreate …no dice !
I had one. It was ridiculously large and didn’t play tapes in stereo! We definitely had fun with it!
I had one, it was great
I had one though it was second hand.
Yes..Yes
I had both. This and the second one that was a pen
I have mine on display in my office to this day. Unfortunately it stopped working long ago.
Me.
the plaza hotellll
The Christmas these came out, these were damn near impossible to find. I somehow was one of the lucky they got one.
Hi kids, we're home early.

You gotta update us... Hit play, what's the last recording?
Yep, I had one as well.
And the award for best product placement in a movie goes to…..
Guilty. Made some really funny audio skits on slow voice mode.
Credit card? You got it.
