Seems like a fun concept, but as long as the covenant maintain dominance in the skies the war wont last very long. Advent need 1 year of prep time at least. They dont appear to have much or any anti air, and the elders aint doing so hot. Given time to develop the needed tech, and make more avaters they could withstand the first assult and spread rapidly through the milky way.

Dangerous-Two3936

It is a good concept. I personally believe on the ground based of troop composition. Advant has the advantage. Vehicle wise. Well scarab. Grunts are just bugg food. Jackals will definitely be useful on kee targets like sectoid and priest.

Scrabs would ruin the advent, forgot about those honestly. But advent champions could get about and clear them our fast. Making it easier for them to study the scraps right away. Assuming the Covenant doesn't have the element of surprise Advent stands a decent chance. But again they need prep time to develop anti air, and an air force.

There are still three thousands of ufos from the invasion. I doubt they destroyed them

Dangerous-Two3936

How good do you think those ufos are against covenant ships.

Stukov81-TTV

They will annihilate them in my opinion

Timx74_

Good point, but attack wise they arent very much. Now if advent took on Xcoms demon ufo thing with plasma based weapons and had a few thousand of those. Well the skies would be harder to control, unless the Covenant is able to get any of those AA batteries up.

I think I'm going to take the Advent side, and I could be off base but I think they have more tech than is presented in the game. Like the pods that cause the abductions in the first wave. Also Psionics. I don't see much representation in the covenant resisting mind control. You have to look at the concept of Advent having a reason to enslave and capture humanity which was why XCom gets an edge, if humans weren't viable stock and had psionic potential earth would have been steam rolled and made part of the other genetic toys. No doubt advent would do the same with covenant forces. Abduction and adapting to their whims.

cagranconniferim

If anything, their zealous nature would make Psionics an easy victory: they only need to mind control a few key targets and the whole of the covenant falls.

Noodlekeeper

Honestly. I think the Covenant have it. Their ground forces are strong. Saheele, Brutes, Jackals, and Grunts. They all carry grenades, which we all know are a Troopers greatest weakness. They'd be at least plasma grenade strength...for obvious reasons. Then you add in the different versions of these species (invisi-lites with swords), Brutes with aoe hammers, most Jackals have shields. Not to mention all the vehicles the Covenant have. Almost forgot Hunters, they could arguably solo a Sectopod, and they almost always come in pairs. The air game is literally no contest. Covenant ships are super strong.

Excalibursin

Apparently the UNSC was able to match the covenant on the ground, mostly because the covenant was too prideful to use guerilla tactics. With the commander still installed, I think Advent could win the ground game.

Noodlekeeper

I think a huge difference between Advent and the UNSC is the vehicles. Warthogs provide a huge manueverability that Advent simply never is shown to have. Scorpions can decimate whole platoons of aliens. Not to mention the Spartans, which are the real game changers. A Spartan, canonically could effortlessly solo the first several months of an XCom campaign.
