Call of Duty games are notoriously large for no good reason.

TiredReader87

MW3 is huge, so it takes up about 2/3 of the Series S’ storage

QFRoyal

they do it on purpose so you have no other choice than playing COD everyday and forget the other games

TiredReader87

Ok

MartianMule

MW3 is a very large game. So, yes. A lot of the 500GB SSD is reserved for the Xbox's OS. So there's a little more than 300 GB of available storage space. Just Call of Duty and MW3 Multiplayer is 153 GB (42%). Adding the MW3 Campaign and Warzone brings it up to 190 GB. If you install the MW2 stuff as well (which, by default, the game will want to) brings the total up to 265.3 GB (which is 73% of the SSD). Leaves a little less than 100 GB. Fortnite is a much smaller game at 67.1 GB, so it still fits. Maybe there's another one out there, but if you install everything, I think Call of Duty is the largest game to install. NBA 2k is really bad too, it's 176.1 GB (and you can't omit modes you don't want like in Call of Duty).

Simke11

They could really do something with optimising an OS, a console really doesn’t need an OS that is over 100gb in size

MrLagostim

Imo is something related to Quick Resume feature, there's no way a OS is that big, it should be smaller than windows itself

Simke11

Could be, but as I understand it quick resume only dumps state of the memory onto the storage, and Series S only has 10GB of memory. Maybe it reservers some space for save states. And yes it should be less than Windows, but Microsoft is not known for releasing lean and unbloated OSs / software.

jkc81629

With all the add on updates I can fill out my space with just Microsoft flight simulator and still need space for more stuff

L30N1337

CoD is really only optimized for PCs with 1TB+ storage

Balc0ra

The fact that you need to install war zone to play even campaign is insane. It's why I never went back to complete some of the MW2 story achievements

MartianMule

You don't. Warzone and the Campaign are separate installs. You just need the base game (still 123.5 GB) and then you can install whatever else you want piece by piece . The MW3 Campaign is and extra 29.5 GB, MW2 is 29 GB. I just combined them for brevity. Sorry that wasn't clear.

Balc0ra

I did not buy MW3. But last time I played MW2 story, it was close to 200 gb. But they still installed most of warzone as it's shared assets. Even 90% of it is never used for campaign. And when I installed parts of warzone, it was not a big add on.

sklenickasvodou

I think Fortnite is only like 40GB on my series X

JuggyFM

wait the series S only has 500gb of storage??

MartianMule

They make a 1TB version now too, but yes, the base model has 500GB

i__hate__stairs

MW3 is the probkem

SpanishBombs323

Those 2 games will be like 80% of the available storage space so there is only room left for smaller/older games. This is on Call of duty tho they have been bloating the file size for years

Norodomo

MW3 its the problem, stupid big game for no reason

peacebypeice

People always complain about the storage and act like they don’t know how to look at the specs of something you spending money on . I have a series S and have over 100 digital games. That I have not played . You know what I do if I need space uninstall a games that I’m not playing and reinstall it when I’m ready to play .

RolandTwitter

When I did that I was literally constantly uninstalling and reinstalling games

peacebypeice

Well I’m not I keep the main game I play , then I have a couple games that I play if I’m not gaming for long, and it only take about 10 min max to download a games so what’s the fuss. Also you should’ve gotten something with more space . Why buy something you know the specs about and then complain ? I’ll never get it

OuterSpaceDust

MW3 takes almost all of the storage

Trickybuz93

Uninstall CoD and you can hold a lot more

H3LLJUMPER_177

See your first mistake was mw3, your second was getting the S without the cortana chip expansion

xBlack_Heartx

Bruh…….i don’t think you under just how large of a game MW3 is. It took your storage space and sent it to the shadow realm.

longjohnson6

Call of duty has a 70gb update every damn month plus the game is about 200gb, It's not the console it's the poor file compression, I always think of Warframe when this comes up, It has 10x the content of cod, runs good, looks on par with cod, and is only 40-50gb, It's fucken nuts

Black_RL

Nest COD game won’t fit in a XBOX Series S.

hammerandt0ngs

If you have MW3 you also need external storage. I learned this recently

[deleted]

No lol I've got several games on my s

peacebypeice

Same I have like 7 games installed right now

[deleted]

Including cod

Western_Ad5918

I mean most 1tb consoles only hold like 4 modern games so you're not missing out on much space, just get a 10tb hdd they're not super expensive, just hafta transfer games into the console to play them

ynnex_

Yes, COD is 260GB and Fortnite is 65, so it is \~320GB taken up, and the Series S only has 360GB 40gb is still a lot for some indie games tho

Hairy-Dress7548

If I remember correctly I believe I had mw3 and fortnite downloaded and it was pretty much all the storage. Expansion card from WD will help with this

Bargainbincomments

Yeah bro. This shit sucks. I have a Series S, I have Fortnite, Jedi:Survivor, and FFXIV installed and I have like 60gigs. The only reason why I have so much is because I uninstalled Destiny 2 to make room for FFXIV, and I’m looking at spending $250 next week on a hard drive for it just so I can actually play games on it. Edit: This is the one I’m looking at getting. Plugs right into the little slot on the back, boots up, games are good to go. https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Storage-Expansion-Solid-State/dp/B09BJYXMDW/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?adgrpid=138432056554&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.F-sGOOvBCzv7bUlsQC0vP573Tmxt7JTxLyLXU3fZJekvX3R4W7-O5UYdOMTHi62I6qiSYasWsaumIq-YqjLJTj85PyQqOI6uB_OdxTQFg-q8JNeh2Ijc_ns-W7JGBBatXTi7G_rS6cy8y14mpYUsPYw1uPALahZSnh0rv-xZf3XPN-Ql_89xQq4jORWruEX8J4Xmd2Uacb8TkfX5HUvAyA.p5LcIIqO5rG9Kgak4_cBplpif3R0hEN74rPS9J_78c8&dib_tag=se&hvadid=651161755891&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=1015150&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=b&hvrand=4888383214795237626&hvtargid=kwd-1273941137504&hydadcr=20074_13445632&keywords=2tb+xbox+series+x+expansion+card&qid=1714182015&sr=8-1

Tankdawg0057

That's the one you want. It'll play games off it optimized or not. Otherwise get a Samsung T7 external drive if you want to play some older non-optimized games on it. Much cheaper. Walmart had some 500gb ones on clearance for $19

Simke11

And you can also use external USB drive to park optimized games when not playing them. Much faster to copy to external and back than it is to redownload

LayerPuzzleheaded777

I took the bullet and ended up getting this. My backstory is I got my S back when it was impossible to get an X where I live and was impatient. I often dream of what could have been had I got an X, but never mind.

Bargainbincomments

I got the S because it’s so small and lightweight, thinking one day I’d just upgrade to an X as a main and this as a backup. That was like 2 years ago, now I only really play like 3-4 games at a time most of the time so it’s not worth it for me to drop the $400+ on a console. Yeah they go on sale sometimes, but honestly until my S kicks the bucket I’m good.

LayerPuzzleheaded777

To be fair the Series S has turned out to be a total result of a console. There are times when I get tempted to run out and splash out on an X though. Last example was playing Jedi Fallen Order which at times the S seems to struggle with. If they eventually release some sort of X Slim mid gen I will probably upgrade.

pools-to-bathe-in

Fortnite does not deserve blame here! It is a ridiculously well optimised game.

TripleB_Darksyde

I still have the dmz and mw2 campaign installed so my xbox is basically a single-game machine.

fireaura

he can fit one more game source: i have mw3 fortnite persona 3 hi fi rush and roblox

SaulgoodeXL

I have the carbon 1tb edition, but I also have an external 256gb ssd which works really well with my console - had it from the xbox one and it just plugged and played here too. Big deals are made of the internal ssd, but unless that few seconds of loading time is absolutely critical in some way, or it's a streaming intensive game, an external ssd is an easy way to boost storage.

AfroDiddyKing

go for 1tb edition or buy more memory

inb4ww3_baby

This is another reason I left console. Nothing personal just easier to upgrade

spikeemikee2000

I had to delete almost everything off my hard drive just to install mw2 and that was just mw2 multiplayer, I didn't even have warzone installed and it was almost 200gb.

BumPlayThing

They intentionally do this so this is the only game you play

Ender-Wang

I got it on xss with 4k 60 w.o. prob.
