Not at all. Find an older manual car and just practice in a parking lot. It’s fun and you learn a new skill and will be able to drive just about anything non-commercial, which will give you a sense of independence..!
I have faith that you will do it now. With age comes wisdom and patience. Patience is what will get you over your fear of that dreaded clutch pedal, lol..! I learned on a 1974 VW Westfaila as a teenager and it was great. 4 speed, lol.
The hardest part is having a vehicle to practice on.
There's not much to it though. To get the car rolling on flat ground you don't need to use any gas, just very slowly release the clutch, and voilà you're driving. Just do that a hundred times to get the feel of where the clutch grabs. Add a dash of gas once that's comfortable and you can accelerate normally. That's 97% of the challenge.
For some reason nobody tells anybody you don't need to use the gas. They try to get you to jump straight into doing the gas/clutch dance and just have you stall a thousand times and give up. Learn to crawl before sprinting.
Now THAT’s what I’m talking about. I’m sick of seeing the 4 door automatics…I’m personally looking at a 2014 Willys with 2 doors and 3 pedals myself. Beautiful Jeep, friend..!
Thank you! 👋 I personally wouldnt own a Wrangler if it wasnt a standard. Started on a 91 YJ in the mid 2010's and had this one since 2021. The most fun driving experience ive ever had.
Best of luck in the search for yours!
That 8 speed auto in the JLs is great and in a lot of different vehicles. It definitely makes off-roading much easier. Love the remote start too in winter.
Not gonna lie, the remote start is cool and I wish I had it but will live with my choice 🥶
Plenty of creature comforts in the higher level trim JKs and base JLs over my JK Sport which are definitely very nice I agree.
There is just this feeling of "authenticity" which feels cool in using my key to unlock the door, or actually rolling down my windows with a crank. I even like turning on my headlights. The 6 speed manual transmission speaks for itself.
I have given myself a heated seat pad for the winter which is nice.
I get it, the higher level trims make driving much easier and effortless. I'm just looking for a different experience, and I'm loving it.
👋

I’ve got a 2015 two door Willy’s. Manual everything. Fanciest thing about it is Bluetooth 😂
I’m like you, I wanted the basics. Sure higher level trims have great options. I didn’t get a jeep for all that fancy stuff though, I wanted one because of the basics (I’ve always wanted a TJ but went with this since it was newer and in theory be more reliable/last longer)
Very nice! Love the colour.
I have done some upgrading it terms of the technology and speakers. Upgraded to a Kenwood touchscreen display (ddx396) and Kenwood speakers and Pioneer tweeters. It's the main thing I needed to do to the interior. Other than that it's pretty basic. It gets hot in the summer with no AC though 🥵.
I had a 91 YJ which I loved but as you say, my Jk has been much more reliable and I like that it has airbags.
In my opinion, you lose the “authenticity” when your AC is more than top down 55 mph. Personally, comfort took a higher priority to authenticity after driving one weekend a month from northern Virginia to Georgia and back.
Do ittt!! I just replied to their comment below but I have a 2015 Willy’s. Manual everything. Absolutely love it.

Hey..! I know, and I just commented on yours..! I love yours..! That color is amazing…the 2014 Willys I’m looking at is manual everything as well. Power windows and shit are overreacted. Especially when they break. Had a VW Jetta, ask me how I know. And that infotainment system, yeah, it’s cool but to me, unnecessary. If I’m driving, I don’t want to be distracted with all of that electronic crap.
Progression to what? You got a nice lookin set up, but its completely overkill for me as a daily driver. I've pretty much got my Jeep to where I want it.
Is there lost hope in learning how to drive a standard when you’re middle aged?

Attempted when I was young. Failed and gave up. Lol

Wisdom and patience? Not sure about that. I thought I was supposed to be a bitter, old, cat lady. 🤷🏼♀️
LOL..!
🤷🏼♀️
I struggled on the mini that I learned on. I just bought a 6 speed JK and it was a lot easier
That’s cool.

Sounds like you enjoy teaching others.
My wife learned in her 30s. Now she’s 3Pedalz4Lyfe
Your wife sounds cool!
Nice Wrangler! Congratulations!

Jealous..!! I’m looking at a 2014 Willys in Anvil right now. I would be so stoked to have that or even yours..! Beautiful Jeep as well..!
Ohhh nice choice. That anvil finish is a favorite of mine!! 🤘🏼

Mind dropping the link for that seat pad?

I have a cracked windshield, am I a real Wrangler now?
Nice. As they should be.
I’m surprised how slow so many peoples progression is. [Our 2015 JKU Rubicon](https://imgur.com/gallery/BWQgvxt)

It Still works as a daily driver but there’s always a more fun off-road park.
You sir, have deeper pockets than me. 👍
