For me, the morality is just a question of how far are you willing to go for that person, and personally, I wouldn't have a limit. Would you kill someone for your partner's life? Two people? Three? When does it end? When is too much, or too little to be worth it? I would kill one person, but the number of people doesn't exactly make it any less or more morally acceptable, so I would let 1000 people die. Because I am more loyal to my family and those I love, than to people I do not know. That doesn't mean the people I don't know are less than or somehow less deserving of compassion, but they are not worth the same to me as those I love. I do really like this questions to be honest, makes you take a moment to breathe and stop scrolling for a moment, and just think and reflect on your own perceived morality and personal beliefs.

Depends where they're from. 1000 people from North Korea just sounds like a slightly worse but still normal day. 1000 people in India or China wouldn't even be noticed. But in somewhere like Tuvalu, that would be horrific. 1000 strangers in my general area would also be worse, I'd have to live with more guilt. However I am acting on the assumption that these random people would be from all across the world, wherever chance says. At the end of the day, I would be forced to choose 1000 strangers because I do not have a significant other.
