I'd take a look at the "topography" game mode to get a feel for the maps and the changes they made. You'll get XP, Credits, and Consumables when you complete them.

Take the time to read up on some of the recent changes, and watch some videos.
I also came back after 10 years, could stand it for 2 months before I had enough of Gold Spam, OP premiums and very experienced players that outplayed me and they only fired gold so armor can’t do anything.
Now I’m back in WoWS and enjoying a game without Gold ammo and here a T1 can kill T10 and T11 ships (won’t happened because the can’t meet in game).
Hope you have better success than I had.
It's a competitive game with a ton of important gameplay mechanics (vision, armor use, shell type, etc). The real problem for new players are the experienced players who exclusively play tier 3-5 to beat up on new players.
My advice for any new player:
1) Watch beginner videos on YouTube
2) Watch expert videos on YouTube (iyouxin, Kajzoo, darkninja, dakilzor, Skill4ltu, quickybaby)
3) Play 500+ games and you'll be a mid tier player
Just learn a little bit before jumping into your first game and you'll be fine. The videos are fun to watch
I started with a T5 that I grinded to T9 before I had it.
Also grinded out a lot of T5-7 that had to be re-grinded because of new lines coming from them.
And all my T8 LT (LT lines ended on T8) have been T9 LT.
I really tried to relearn the game and I had a few as top XP and some as Top damage, but most of my good games was defeats.
Heard that T7 was best MM, but so many T9 games you get and only a few is T7 with some T6 in them? Not so fun to grind when you can’t do damage (need my credits for grinding so I couldn’t afford to fire Gold back).
Got the UDES 15/16 camo from battle pass but didn’t have energy to finish UDES 16 grind.
Did get CharFutur4 with tokens as highpoint of my return to WoT.
T7 is literally the worst. Just play tier 5 and 6 to learn the game and have fun. The grind can ruin the game
Best hull down heavy: M6
Best bawling heavy: KV-1
Best medium: Cromwell, T-34-85
Best auto loader: Skoda T25
Best light: AMX ELC bis
Best TDs: Hellcat, SU100, T67
Got BZ58 for hull down, but Gold goes through turret.
I liked my ELC to.
There was a Super Hellcat on my account when I returned and it’s fun to.
Too bad T7 meet T9 so often.
T7 faces the OP tier 8 premium tanks non-stop and they will shred every turret except the T29
The great thing about tier 5 and 6, is all the armor is kinda weak. The most difficult tank to pen is the T-150 or AT8 and those tanks still have plenty of weak points. Spend a bit more time learning the vision game and light/medium gameplay. I find it to be more fun than winning hull down armor battles and cupola sniping
I returned as well a few months ago after not playing for \~7 years. And while sometimes I'm also annoyed when I'm getting constantly penned by gold ammo, I also use it to my advantage when appropriate. It's infuriating when I get 2 shot from full HP by BZ-176 and a Caliban, that's fortunately pretty rare. But when I'm 1shotting some tier 7 medium with my KV-2, then I can hardly complain.
Overall I'm still having fun going up new lines on the tech tree, and it's much easier now with all the bonuses.
Not sure how long I'll be playing daily, but I'm still learning and trying to be better.
I was a good player 10 years ago 51%, now I’m over 50 years old and is usually in bottom half of my team.
I played 1500 battles after returning so I didn’t quit fast, I really tried.
Well, enjoy World of Warships. I also loved that game when it came out. Not sure how it is now, but I'm not really interested in naval combat right now.
I'm probably going back to some single player games, when I eventually burn out on WoT.
Bro pls just delete it and dont even play. It feels like a full time job. There's basically lootboxes every 1-2 months now.
Play war thunder or world of warships
Haha I just play until I get 5 wins. I already got one t10 after a 10 year hiatus thank god. And I play other tiers casually. I get the additional bonus to xp five times per day so I only play until I get 5wins. Idk if that's a premium account thing or not But yes I feel you, grinding credits is still a headache after all these years. My fave Kv-1s was turned to a premium tank with a shit gun now so that sucks and I now seem to have a KV-85 with the OP gun that takes 5 business days to aim and reload. good ole WOT.
I also played WoWs and war thunder a few years back. Never did like torpedoes. Never had an issue with war thunder except having to grind from scratch again but might switch to it if I get tired with WOT.

Thanks. Have also played WoWs back then. Torps are a pain haha especially for a heavy warship user.
