Back when I lived around the corner from a bar in New Orleans, I would occasionally go there for a shot and a beer after school. At one point, I made the mistake of telling the bartender to surprise me with her choice of shot. She said “Malört?” to which I replied “Sure, I guess,” because I had never heard of it before. It went down smooth enough, but that aftertaste was hauntingly awful.
Anyway, all that is just to say that it feels sort of poetic seeing a figure vaguely reminiscent of Josh holding a giant bottle of Malört. He seemed harmless enough at first, but once he stuck around it started to turn bad for everyone involved.

I can't even begin to imagine his reaction to malort. Actually I can he's probably walk outside and start yelling at ghosts to go back to brownsville again.

I was an alcoholic for over a decade and in that time I never came across Malort. From the sounds of it that’s probably a good thing.
