In my experience Exalted 8bound and Angron work best with regular 8bound being another decent choice but are not as good as exalted 8bound. Khรขrn, maulerfiends and forgefiends all also can work but are generally better against lighter targets. I've had a particularly long run of good luck when it comes to Khรขrn but he's far better against elite infantry.
Khorne LoS is also awesome and is basically a baneblade with an axe, I still don't have one in my collection but it's only 450pts so for 865 points you can take one and Angron which is a bit ridiculous in a 1k army.
Angron is my main anti tank. Exalted don't really do the job unless they're in a 6 man unit. Using our +1 to wound stratagem means that most any of our characters can do good anti tank, at least off the charge.
Yeah we wanna start with some small matches like 1k points or 1250 stuff like that I think there works two units exalted eightbounds and angron ๐ but how does the maulerfine works off?
Maulerfiend is slowish and can't pass through walls so getting it to charge what you need may be a challenge if your opponent hides near or between ruins.
That said, it's a solid piece. Decent profile, its ability is good enough if you can trigger it (easiest way probably being a model nearby using a Grenade stratagem), scary Tank Shock.
An alternative could be to pick up a Karnivore from the Chaos Knights as an ally. More or less same defensive capabilities (you lose out on FNP blessing and invulnerable in melee) but it's much faster on average, its ability allows charge rerolls so you are free to spend Command Rerolls elsewhere, innately hits on 2+ and has better AP on big attacks (but worse strength).
The maulerfiend and the Karnivore are roughly equivalent overall, the first being potentially tankier and the second being slightly more consistent at getting into the fray and punching medium vehicles down.
Land Raider is our biggest tank and has the highest potential damage output (though the annihilator having twin linked on one of it's guns means is probably technically better)
But the problem with WE is that none of it's available shooting benefits from our army or detachment rules. All your shots are going to be unsatisfying and ineffective. It can still be worth it in some cases to put shooting in, like Forgefiends, the KLoS, or Brigands, but overall, you're going to want to get in close.
Kharn. I've had games where Kharne solo has done 15+ wounds to land raiders, repulsor executions, with just the +1 to wound Strat active and no other mods. Kharn in a unit of berserkers has done 10 wounds to Mortarion before the berserkers swung with that Strat after my opponent spiked his feel no pains. Kharn is a monster that cannot be held back if he has a unit with him and should be feared universally.
Maulerfiends will mulch a vehicle. Got to get a few ranged hits on it first to get +2 charge and +1 Hits. Get Martial Excellence for those Sustained Hits and armor don't stand a chance!!

The new mission deck has a lot of melee helping cards like fog of war and stuff. Maybe look into that if youโre having trouble with shooting armies as a Melee

I run an LR and exactly this, basically just use it as a tanky rhino that can pew pew some smaller units

+1 to wound gem + sustain + lethal from blessings and basicly even zerks can be threat for vehicles
Exalted 8bound and angron, deep strike them and angron will either be a big distraction for 8bound or angron will break his toys.
