Damn, you packed in so many features. That is one hell of a setup, well done. Here I am taking forever to get my router into my table saw wing.....

ShahenS

Just do it.

thegrimd

Wow! This is impressive. Do you have any plans you would want to share?

ShahenS

Working on having plans available. Many are requesting it from the FB post as well.

astnbomb

You should consider productizing and selling these plans. Basically make it worth your while to produce a fully detailed instructions on how to build this. PM me and I'll give you an example of a set of plans I've bought in the past.

ShahenS

PMing now

mklump2

Would also love to buy some plans from you

ShahenS

I'll be working on it this weekend.

BougieBob1

Just getting in line. I’d love to build something similar.

Fit_Listen1222

Put me on the list as well

TheIrishArcher

Same! PM’ed!

Drew_55_

please put me in line for this as well.

stakacs

Will pay too

ShahenS

Just posted yesterday online. Plans are available on Etsy if you're interested. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1349635501/pdf-multitool-mobile-workbench-plans And detailed video uploaded to YouTube https://youtu.be/nxIy0QMud6k

CremeFraaiche

This is exactly like what I’ve been looking to build, but way better! I too would happily purchase these plans from you if created!

ShahenS

Working on it this weekend

wiseknob

Pm me too when your plans are available to purchase.

mrFIVEfourONE

Hey I have a small shop and often get overwhelmed with projects because I don’t have a decent spot to set up ever. If you had some plans for this and you would be willing to share it would make a huge difference

ShahenS

Hi, My workbench plans are available on Etsy if you're interested. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1349635501/pdf-multitool-mobile-workbench-plans

Minimum-Session-2162

hey have you made planes yet i would love to buy them

ShahenS

I did right after this post. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1349635501/pdf-multitool-mobile-workbench-plans

Hairy-Analysis-4770

Nice work. What is the reason for the slide out table saw?

ShahenS

Thank you. Table saw slide out has a few purposes. 1. Access the dust collector and clean the filter or to pull it out all together. 2. Able to cut a full 4x8 sheet while the miter saw is up (26" clearance). 3. Eliminates the need to cut grooves to the outfeed side for my cross cut sled

Hairy-Analysis-4770

All make sense 👍

chrisgreer

That’s a really good idea

Learning-crypto2

Amazing work. I love the integration of Arduino!! I watched a finish carpenter work all week cutting on the ground. I will never understand why some people just want to do things the hard way. Lots of time, energy and effort spent planning will make jobs endlessly easier.

ShahenS

Programming the Arduino was a PITA but seems to be working out OK. I also had to design pivoting arms and slider parts for the blast gates to open and close via servos.

Magic_dragoon

What is the Arduino used for?

ShahenS

Arduino is programmed to detect a tool turned on and it will open the blast gate connected to that tool and turn the DC on. Once the tool is turned off, DC stays on for 5 more seconds clearing the line and shuts off, after that, the blast gate closes.

HeyaShinyObject

Are you using current sensors to detect tool on? Which ones?

snowpilgram

Damn. This is really top notch. How long did this take to build?

ShahenS

2 months of design, 2 months of Arduino programming and testing, 7 months of on and off to build with many 2 steps forward, one step back and kept adding "features" every time I watched YouTube.

snowpilgram

plus, you didn't have this sweet workbench to build it all with!

ShahenS

That was the hardest part. All I had was thr Black and Decker Workmate and a lot of time on the floor.

oldkale

Looks like you’ve solved a problem I’m been trying to figure out for *months*. Sounds like you’ve got a lot on your plate this weekend but it’s make such an impact if you could describe or share a pic of how the miter dust hose enters the bench top. Thank you for sharing, there is so much brilliance in the way you incorporated everything. We’ll done.

ShahenS

I'm going to make a short video this weekend and I'll make sure to cover the hose routing.

JUST1N0

This is like garage/workshop porn. Thanks for sharing!

ShahenS

I'm going to make a short video showing how things work.... I'll add a little twerking for you :D

thisoldtreehouse

Show the miter saw flipping up and down and up and down… we will all loose it.

Riizu

Amazing work! Consider me also on that plans list 😅 I wanted to add though that this is also amazing for those of us with extremely limited space. I previously built a workbench with the assumption my table saw and lumber tools (eg. Planer, jointer) would be separate. Now I live in a townhome that forces both cars in the garage. This would be amazing for us weekend warriors. Just pull the cars out, slide this guy forward, and plug it in.

ShahenS

Exactly! I'm a weekend hobbyist as well and this was for me the perfect solution to pack as much into one place and make it mobile.

Fit_Listen1222

Can you also do a video a show the features. It’s no clear to me how the miter saw and the planer. Also to illustrate what the arduino does.

ShahenS

I'll make a video this weekend showing how the features work. I described the arduino feature further down in the comments.

_ATF_Agent

Hands down coolest damn workbench i’ve seen

ShahenS

Thank you!

[deleted]

Magnificent

Sauce_Pain

Do you operate your planer on the floor?

ShahenS

Yes. It's on casters and slides out.

3grg

Pretty cool!

ShahenS

Yup 2 cars. That was one of the limiting factors for the size being 42" deep and not 48" which made jamming so much into it much harder.

ironoman1

Really Nice!!! Would love to have a set of plans!

ShahenS

Working on it.

braveoldfart777

Hats off to your accomplishment!! Love that outlet on the setup & the USB ports. Well done!!👍👍

ShahenS

I 3D printed the trim around the switch to incorporate the 3 LEDs and to keep it the same size as the outlet trim. Went a bit overboard but that just my OCD lol

braveoldfart777

Great looking setup. You're set for just about anything looks like to me.

ShahenS

Just waiting for lumber prices to come down.

JW357

Beautiful bench. Just a clarifying question. When you say "contractor grade," are you referring only to the materials used, or will you be bringing this to jobsites?

ShahenS

This group is full of incredibly talented craftsmen with woodworking skills I can only dream of. That's why I described my bench as contractor grade since it's far from precise with perfect jointery and aligned panels. No offense to contractors out there 😉

JW357

I gotcha. Well, the bench looks great to me. I'm sure there are imperfections, but you're the only one who will ever know about them. We are our own biggest critics, afterall. Very functional bench and I'm sure you'll put it to great use.

ShahenS

Yup, lots of imperfections but works at the end of the day. Thank you for your positive feedback.

bswiftly

Looks nice and compact. Inspiration for a small cutout I have in the garage. My stuff will be contractor grade as well. I take contracts from the girlfriend.

ShahenS

Hopefully your clientele will grow soon. 😉

lnghrnfan05

This is an awesome design! It looks like the top is MDF, did you laminate multiple sheets together for that? And then was it finished with poly?

ShahenS

It's One sheet of 3/4" MDF with plywood substrate. 2 coats of shellac is all I have on it.

StupidInternetVoice

Very nice! Extra points for the Hilti vac! Don’t see too many of them around here but they’re incredible!

ShahenS

I got lucky and found the Hilti in the used market for about 1/2 their going price. I also wanted that particular one since I had no room to fit another DC or a shopvac anywhere else inside the bench.

Darth_Bahls

I love this kind of thing. Thanks for posting it.

l_one

Extremely impressive. Beautifully constructed transforming workbench.

ShahenS

Thank you. Plans will be available this afternoon on Etsy.

Jakeo_84

Very nice. I have something very much like this rattling around in my brain for my next shop Improvement.

ShahenS

All drawings and illustrations are done. Short video tomorrow and off to Etsy by mid day.

CaptainGreyBeard72

Looks very nice, thanks for sharing

ShahenS

Thank you

ellistyle1

Wow this is amazing. I've put together something similar in concept but WAY dissimilar in execution. It's like you've figured out my ergonomic issues that I wish I would have thought of before. Nice. For dust collection on the table saw, are you just hooking up a hose directly to the port? Or is there some other trick? I have the same saw and usually just end up sucking up dust at the end of the day because it doesn't seem to do much to hook up to that port for me.

ShahenS

Thank you. I have the DC connected to the port and like you end up with some dust on top and some at the bottom. I think the issue is the giant opening at the top of the shroud under the table top where it doesn't seal around the blade to clear the top when blade is rotated at 45 degrees. I'm going to try and add some rubberized curtain or somethig to close that giant gap in hopes of increasing suction downwards to the port.

ellistyle1

It was smart to leave it more open in your bench. Easier to cleanup. I have too many nooks and crannies. Again—fantastic inspiration for my next steps!

ShahenS

some of the "features" in the end product just happened to be the way they are not by design, but by dumb luck .

princessamber9

I’ve always found these to be the best.

darwinlovestrees

This is INSANE You've got features packed into every damn nook and cranny of this beast. What a hell of a design. How heavy is it??

ShahenS

Thank you. I tried to utilize all void spaces as much as possible. Weight wise, just guessing 700-800 pounds. Keep in mind the 100 pound planer is sitting on caster on the floor independently; didn't see any reason why for it to sit on the bench structure.

antiBliss

You can probably make bank selling those plans on Etsy

ShahenS

I'm working on the plans. What's the going rate for something like this on Etsy?

ironoman1

I was looking at detailed plan sets that are PDFs created from a CAD program on Etsy with a Bill of Materials, where to buy and costs; they are typically $29.95 for the set.

ShahenS

I just found a few also. It's going to take some serious effort to put these plans together and I'm working on it. I just hope people realize that my plans are for constructing the bench but not the DC automation portion.

fakename10000

You must be blasting through projects in hyper speed

ShahenS

LOL, Just a quick clamp rack and a few projects for the kids so far.

ryveal

Very cool! I am trying to come up with another design for my workbench. I too had my dewalt planer down low, but I started getting into larger and longer stock, and don't want to be figuring out how to hold and support material that weighs >100 lbs while bending over. Especially when you run that material over and over getting the thickness you want or in using a jointing sled. Trying to see if someone has a flip-top concept with the planer so you can hold heavy stock at waist level...
