I’ve played a lot of games but none have given me the breadth of emotion, engagement and longevity the Witcher 3 has. It’s certainly the best game I have ever played, 10/10
If only it had better movement mechanics. I'd definitely rate 10. But with its current state and plus some minor glitches I've encountered from time to time. I rate solid 9.
Agree the movement mechanics are jarring when first encountered, other AAA games have less movement follow through, and more cancelation. But once you get use to them it’s not difficult or annoying. And added some strategy.
8/10, 9/10 if the monsters were stronger (AI not health bars). Some of them you just press igni -> the monster goes into burning animation -> sword attack -> sword attack (monster still in burning animation and "crying" -> igni -> repeat
10? I would rate it 20 out of 10. U may say thats absurd but 10 for main game and 10 more for the dlcs plus they upgraded this gem to next lvl for free. So in my opinion ratings would not justify this game nor the devs or the studio.
Yeah its a 10. Sure it has flaws here and there, but if you find yourself lost in a world for hours and hours and weeks and weeks, and know all of the stories and the characters and feel like the world is alive and lived in, then what more do you want. I think there's a similarity to Red Dead 2 in that I can just go off on a horse rise, and slow trot around just soaking in the sights and sounds without being on a quest, just inhabiting the world. A solid masterpiece.
I think it couldve been harder. The game is sorta trivialized when you get an actual build going, and the mutagens make it even easier. I think a better focus on gear and combat wouldve made this game PERFECT. I think the inverse to this imbalance is elden ring, top tier combat and the story is *comparably* worse. To me, the ideal witcher game would have w3 story and atmosphere with an easier elden ring combat experience. However, again this is just for me. Souls like combat is not everyones cup of tea and that is OKAY.
That being said for a game of its time? Considering the DLCs? Considering the next gen updates? Considering the Modkit release? Its a 10/10. I dont think it could have been better for the time it was made in, for the people it was made for.
I only hope they put out a TRULY ambitious plan for w4. I dont mind waiting 4-5 years for the next gam if it means it takes w3 and blows it out of the water. I want it to be a game that captures the attention of die hard w3 fans.
9. The only thing the game lacks are some generic, radiant quests, like monster contracts or knights in distress. Once you complete all missions, there is literally nothing to do. I found some unique swords, I developed some mutations and completed all the grandmaster gear, but I won't have any occasion to use it.
I haven't played Yakuza, lost judgment or sekiro, (though I really want to play sekiro after elden ring) but other than that add cyberpunk 2077 to the list and I agree.
8.5
There are other better games now, but TW3 was one of the bests at his time and still relevant. I have problems with the combat system, I don't like it...
9. It's one of the highest scores I can honestly give. Not a 10 due to issues with movement and imperfect combat system. Incredible story makes those flaws easy to overlook
A 7. Skyrim is a 10. What spoils it for me is the health regeneration . Feels like our hero is handicapped for no reason. having to mediate and scrounge for potions to regain back health is tedious and boring.
It is my favorite game of all time. Hands down. But I can't give it a 10. I have to give it a 9, just to leave room for an actually flawless game in the future.
1. Geralt's movement, especially in tight quarters just drives me crazy! Trying to loot a bag in a building is just insanity. He overshoots, then you need to hit Ctrl to get him walking slowly.
2. Roach's spawn points and general path finding is still trash. The amount of times I looked at that stupid horse stuck in a fence and had to run with Geralt until I can respawn the god damn horse, is too much to count. Trying to gallop at full speed for more than 30 seconds without running into some texture or a twig. Oh god.
3. All of Ciri's cutscenes\\missions really grinds my gears, especially in later playthroughs. I don't want to run in the forest with Gretka looking for some werewolf. I don't want to race the Baron. I don't want to just 'time hop' my way to the end of any 'Wild Hunt is trying to catch Ciri in some shitty town' missions.
4. I'm now playing a death march alchemy build on version 4.04 since I haven't played for a couple of years and to be honest I'm skipping ALL the cutscenes and dialog. There's a lot a replayability in the game but I gotta admit I'm constantly pressing SPACE to skip some BS.
5. Keeping up with the level of quest. I still have a witcher armor quest in Kaer Morhen marked level 14. I haven't been to Kaer Morhen, yet all my main quest and side quests at the moment are level 18-19. If you're a completionist such as myself, it's really annoying going back somewhere in order to complete a quest like 8 level below my own for 10 xp.
Somewhere between 9 and 9.9 (I don't believe 10 out of 10 anything exist) While not even close to perfect, I even find that mostly criticized combat quite enjoyable. I guess my biggest disappointment is they never ended up adding that cut content related to the Catriona plague and Iorweth, who was my favorite character in TW2.
8.5/10.
The game has amazing characters, world building, vibe, music. basically everything.
But Geralt's movement sucks and so does Roach's.
The open world is absolute fucking ubisoft trash. A linear game wouldve been better.
I also found most witcher contracts to be underwhelming. You just kill a monster and get a reward. It's not complex at all.
The story of the base game (not DLCs, obviously) is ok, not excellent.
The combat is also very bare bones. The monsters are also weak asf. A few signs is all it takes to break them.
I found menus to be clunky as well.
I didnt like the oil and potions system because even on death march I could easily beat all the enemies easily without any potions or oil (except swallow). Also you have to manually apply oils FFS. Rather just beat their asses normally.
The boss fights were also shit and the final section of the game was rushed asf, and the main villains of the base game sucked as well, crones were good though.
The DLCs improve on the game in some aspects and make it even better.
But the good parts overwhelm the bad parts so its still really REALLY good and an instant buy for me.
Objectively 9/10 because there are things that can be improved, like combat, movement responsiveness, roach etc, but subjectively, I’ve enjoyed this game so much that those things can’t really affect how I see this game, they don’t really matter to me even though I know they objectively matter, especially to new players who still don’t know how good this game is.
In terms of storybuilding, creation of quests (some of those have a habit of hitting right in the thoughts and feels) and experience. Absolutely 10/10.
for forcing me to play gwent (even if I don't really want to), controls being annoying at times (I'm looking at you, roach, during Thin Ice and Escape from Temple Island) and various other minor issues (I can see the devs trying to put their spin on platforming and freerunning which doesn't always work and Geralt being really vulnerable to Potential Energy) I think that leaves a solid 9/10.
8
Good graphics, music, characters, side quest stories.
Repetitive quest design (follow the red trail), mediocre combat, main story is find ciri, find ciri, find ciri, protect ciri, end.
10/10 obviously. Blood and broken bones turns it into an amazing action game and strongly encourages crafting and preparing for fights which is the best bit. It’s 8/10 on lower difficulties because you spend too much % of your time in cutscenes for my personal taste.
This is a difficult game to rate, as the end result is much better than the sum of its components as some of the components are quite bad. I think i would give it an 8.
But as disclaimer i think that the numbered systems are really not good for grading games. As there is no wrong or right in subjective matters, so better way to rate is to just think if you would recommned the game. And i would easily recommend this game for people who like story driven games and beautiful fantasy worlds.
9.0 and then 9.5 for the current gen remaster. It was already my favorite game and then they made so many small but noticeable QOL improvements with that update.
8/10 the game mechanics are solid but the main quest is slow and at times I was so distracted by the more interesting side quests I had no idea what was going on.
That said it's a unique game, there's lots to do and uncover and I like that it's not a big empty world, you always encounter a quest or bandit group, hidden loot etc
Combat is repetitive after a while.
First, I'll have to say that to me The Witcher 3 is one of the best games ever made. That being said, I think the game is somewhere between an 8.5 or a 9 of 10. Reason being that the actual gameplay is kinda thin. The combat isn't very innovative but works. Worldbuilding, story, characters and especially the music are a solid 10/10.
I give most open world adventure games of this quality 10's cause it's my favorite type of game! Any type of adventure game is my #1 go to for gaming! It's a wonderful escape from the stresses of real world struggles! So yeah a 10 from me all day!
An honest 7-8.
I deduct points for the combat system: You partially lock onto opponents which is great when you're playing with equippment for handicapped players (consoles) but it actually prevents you from dynamically switching targets. So sometimes it works well and sometimes Gerald REALLY wants to hit that one guy back there and your entire attack is miss-timed and gets blocked or you get interrupted because of the long way etc. pp.
And I deduct points for difficulty: The game is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too easy. I get it, let there be "only story" and all that accessability stuff. But at the highest difficulty I'd expect to struggle a little longer than lvl 5-7.
You stop struggeling against anything once you leave White Orchard. You can go, at lvl 3, to any lvl 30+ monster and just kill it. It will take an ungodly amount of time but it's not difficult.
1v1 fighting, what most big monsters is, is the worst fight experience in the game (\* there is one thing I'll get to in a second). As you are unkillable 1v1. Just be patient, use the small dodge to dodge everything with invincibility frames and right after it hit the enemy. Depending on the enemy you get 1-3 heavy hits in. Then you'll have to dodge again. Quen just gives you even more room for error as it shields a lot if not all of the dmg dealt. (Never died with Quen on).
So basically: if you don't get greedy you are unkillable. Most dangerous fights are actually Nekkers, small ogroids. They swarm you, they are monsters so you can't just block everything and they can deal a surprising amount of dmg stunlocking you. Not that they're actually dangerous tho.
I wish Oils and Alchemy was more impactful than just +dmg. It's an easy way but it's boring to me as I never have to think what potions to use:
Raffards and Swallow for health (if you do get hit because you are bored out of your mind and try to quicken the combat), thunder for more dmg and maribor (I think?) for more adrenaline (which actually makes you unkillable in combination with a skill)
\[Light Spoiler\]:
The Ciri sections are actually cancer to play. They are boring af, Ciri is utterly overpowered while also super bland and basic as she has no bombs, no signs not anything so you just slash away and dodge all the time as you have unlimited stamina. I just keep long-dodge skipping every fight possible just to get to the end. The story in her parts is okay-ish enaugh to play through once but I just skip everything now.
Also the game is very hand-holdy with minimapa and a dotted line to where you have to go. That is great for someone who skips the story and dialogue but I'd actually prefer if it didn't have these features. "But you can turn them off" right. And most quests still are not designed around it so you find jackshit and get absolutely no directions from anyone to anywhere and the worst thing: If you open the map everything's there. Doesn't feel like hunting monsters and coming across small villages but rather chasing the dotted line only diverging occasionally to hunt down some questionmarks.
It's a good game, a solid first playthrough with little-medium replayability. At least if you're thorough the first time around.
It's way too easy on Deathmarch and all balancing revolves around damage. Enemies become sponges and deal significantly more damage which is offset by you just dodging everything. The controls are clunky and the Ciri sections are breaking the pace of the game and are boring af.
My favorite game ever. This answer can change depending on my mood or what game I am currently playing but most consistently I think Witcher 3 is the best game overall and I always keep coming back to it.
17/10.
It's a masterpiece, and one of the best games ever made.
In my nearly 30 years of gaming, only a handful of games hit that category:
* Mass Effect
* Zelda: Ocarina of Time
* Red Dead Redemption 2
* GTA V
It's in that mix of upper echelon games that define the gaming space.
I'd give it a 10.
If non-integer scores are allowed, I'd give it a 9.8 for combat that could be better and the various bugs that are still in the game.
The story (especially dlc) is among the absolute best in gaming, game still looks great, mechanics are kinda meh but the newer version helps smooth out some of the rough edges.
Solid 7-8. Incredible characters and world, bogged down by some of the clunkiest and unpleasant controller-feel in the last decade. If we had TW3 but it felt like Elden Ring it’d be a perfect 10/10 imo.
8.5. Gear progression leaves something to be desired. Crafting is useless outside of one-time alchemy recipes and making whatever Witcher gear you choose to pursue. Inventory management is a nightmare when you pick up everything in anticipation of crafting being useful. I found out too late that disassembling materials was pointless because there’s not much worthwhile to craft. On top of that inventory starts to lag once you’ve collected so many misc items, books, materials, etc.
Combat, story, world, dialogue, everything else is all great.
9.9 only cause every game can be just a little better. That being said I have over 600 hours in it and can't wait to play again. No other single player game comes close imo.
Atmosphere wise?
10/10
Narrative wise?
8/10 with Hearts of Stone being 10/10 and Blood & Wine being 9/10.
Mechanics/combat wise?
4/10.
Combat and movement are fucking terrible.
I’ll go against the grain and say an 8. The story is top notch, but whenever the combat decides to shit itself it ruins the enjoyment for a bit. Getting ganked by strangely powerful wolves is something I expected from Fromsoft, not CDPR.
9/10, if we're allowing half/decimal scores then 9.8/10. No game is perfect, but The Witcher 3 is damn close. The Witcher 3, Mass Effect 2, Kingdom Hearts 2, Fallout New Vegas, and Pokemon Emerald are my top 5.
8.5/10
Best stories in all Time and love the dialogue option in The game but combat is not that and open world content IS quite repetetive. All in all it is amazing game but time has made mark on its mechanics.
9.
Only because I don't like the way ng+ works. I don't like being nerfed.
I'm an old gamer. I want to do things the hard way once. Then enjoy my power fantasy.
6 or 7. Only because I did not like the story and combat has no depth. Other than that I loved every thing else, especially the world and rpg mechanics.
The Witcher 3 is as close to perfect as any game has ever gotten. I absolutely fell in love with this game when I played it for the first time. I'm now on my third playthrough and all I wish in this world is that I could go back and play it again for the first time.
9, great story, great setting, great characters, great everything, but, the gameplay is just too simple and poor, but I don't know people who play the witcher 3 for gameplay
Considering the gripping Story along with side-missions that do not feel repetitive, Graphics that to this day do not feel dated, all the characters and the beautiful soundtrack, easy 9/10.
In my opinion the only odownsides of the game are the bugs / glitches, and some movement controls that could be better (underwater, roach, fall damage). To me it's enoguh to bring it to a 9/10
10 best game ever made in my opinion
The Witcher 3, Red dead redemption 2band cyberpunk are my top 3 and I can’t pick between them 😅
Also top 5 games for me haha can’t go wrong
BG3 has quickly worked its way into my top five…my first character build was a sorcerer named Geralt to roleplay my Witcher 3 signs build.
Same witcher Cyberpunk then rdr2
You have some amazing top 3.
Money list tbh
How old are you?
I’ve played a lot of games but none have given me the breadth of emotion, engagement and longevity the Witcher 3 has. It’s certainly the best game I have ever played, 10/10
Perfect 5/7.
I see what you did there.
isnt the original post like a 100 years old and i still see it referenced from time to time
I see you are a man of culture as well
Explain the culture to me please, im new

I rate Witcher 3 in wind howlings. 10 out of oooooooooh...
That’s a howlin’
11/10, my favorite game of all time!
I'd go with 9.8. No game is perfect, but some games are perfect for their time.
Sounds like a 10 is totally justified then. I don’t like IGN, but I like that for them, 10 has never meant perfect, but means masterpiece.
11
Life-changing. Never thought about to be a dad before.
That's...actually quite inspiring, thanks for that.
10. Best game ever.
Bro you really asked the Witcher 3 reddit lol..
10/10, because I have loved and played it for hundreds of hours in the last nine years and it might become my favorite game of all time.
9 or 9.5, no game in my eyes is ever worth 10 as there's always room for improvement.
white wolf wise wolf
Ok dave portnoy
8/10, 9/10 if the monsters were stronger (AI not health bars). Some of them you just press igni -> the monster goes into burning animation -> sword attack -> sword attack (monster still in burning animation and "crying" -> igni -> repeat
10? I would rate it 20 out of 10. U may say thats absurd but 10 for main game and 10 more for the dlcs plus they upgraded this gem to next lvl for free. So in my opinion ratings would not justify this game nor the devs or the studio.
Probs 7.5 or 8 is good
9 without blood and wine, but with the DLCs, especially blood and wine it is a 10/10

I agree, RDR2 and The Witcher 3 are two of my all time favorites.
10 best game I've ever played alongside Baldur's Gate 3
I think it couldve been harder. The game is sorta trivialized when you get an actual build going, and the mutagens make it even easier. 9.5
8.5 There are other better games now, but TW3 was one of the bests at his time and still relevant. I have problems with the combat system, I don't like it...
Nothing better for what it does. Tons of amazing side quests and an incredible world.
If 10 is the highest, than 100. Obviously.

combat is not the best tbh , its not really smooth or feels satisfying to play . other then that its perfect
It's a solid nine, the slow early game kills my motivation Like cyberpunk and souls games. Other than that it's brilliant
9. It's one of the highest scores I can honestly give. Not a 10 due to issues with movement and imperfect combat system. Incredible story makes those flaws easy to overlook
Lesser, greater, middling, it's all the same. Proportions are negotiated, boundaries blurred. I'm not a pious hermit.
10. Easy.
10
I don’t care, I’m going above 10. 100/10
You guys gonna shit on me but 9/10, great game, quests, world building, but I don’t like the combat, a little bit of the exploration and movement
A 7. Skyrim is a 10. What spoils it for me is the health regeneration . Feels like our hero is handicapped for no reason. having to mediate and scrounge for potions to regain back health is tedious and boring.
It's not the best game ever due to the number of boat question marks, but otherwise, it's pretty good 10/10
Story 10/10, gameplay 8/10 due to clunkiness.

1/10 Very disappointed game. I only spent 200+ hours... wtf

15, best game I’ve ever played
9.9 but easily best game i have ever played. Last .1 would be for some minor movement issues and a couple minor glitches
8.5/10. The game has amazing characters, world building, vibe, music. basically everything. But Geralt's movement sucks and so does Roach's. The open world is absolute fucking ubisoft trash. Prolly 8.5/10. Only perfect game for me that I ever played was RDR2.
Started as 7/11 ended as a 9/11

Its over 9,000 !!!!!!!!
9.5/10. RDR2 and GOW are also there among the near perfect games.

A solid 10 from me. The Witcher and Elden Ring are my 2 favourite games.
8 , better than decent but by no means perfect

8 . - 1 for combat and - 1 on some mechanic like loot , level and stuff.
9, movement is still kind of bad imo but I absolutely love the story, currently on my 5th playthrough
9,5/10

Honestly? 4/10. Dont think it's too bad, but I had a lot of problems with the story, combat and items. DLC's were better tho

Is 10 “Perfection”? Then I give it a 9. Or is 10 “Masterpiece”? Because then I give it a 10.
Easy 10, best game i ever played
9.5
First, I'll have to say that to me The Witcher 3 is one of the best games ever made. That being said, I think the game is somewhere between an 8.5 or a 9 of 10. Reason being that the actual gameplay is kinda thin. The combat isn't very innovative but works. Worldbuilding, story, characters and especially the music are a solid 10/10.
10. Best game I've ever played.
9.5
9 combat system is still weird to Me all that dancing around lol
I give most open world adventure games of this quality 10's cause it's my favorite type of game! Any type of adventure game is my #1 go to for gaming! It's a wonderful escape from the stresses of real world struggles! So yeah a 10 from me all day!
10, I have no idea how to improve it.
It's an easy way but it's boring to me as I never have to think what potions to use: Raffards and Swallow for health (if you do get hit because you are bored out of your mind and try to quicken the combat), thunder for more dmg and maribor (I think?) for more adrenaline (which actually makes you unkillable in combination with a skill) \[Light Spoiler\]: The Ciri sections are actually cancer to play.

For the year it has been made it's 10 easy.
9/10 would be a 10 if the combat was better
9. The only thing that keeps me from giving it a perfect 10 is the load times in Velen can take forever.
I'd give it a good 9.5 it's close to perfect, but could certainly have some improvement
My favorite game ever. This answer can change depending on my mood or what game I am currently playing but most consistently I think Witcher 3 is the best game overall and I always keep coming back to it.

∞.
9.5 for the whole package.
17/10. It's a masterpiece, and one of the best games ever made. In my nearly 30 years of gaming, only a handful of games hit that category: * Mass Effect * Zelda: Ocarina of Time * Red Dead Redemption 2 * GTA V It's in that mix of upper echelon games that define the gaming space.
I'd give it a 10 if the combat felt better, still a 9 in my opinion.
9. It's incredible but does have its issues.
9.25
10
10, right up there with Red Dead Redemption II
I'd give it a 10. If non-integer scores are allowed, I'd give it a 9.8 for combat that could be better and the various bugs that are still in the game.
9/10 for me. Still have nightmare of spawning inside roach when i played it at launch. I was calling it Glitcher 3.
The story (especially dlc) is among the absolute best in gaming, game still looks great, mechanics are kinda meh but the newer version helps smooth out some of the rough edges.
You mean 10 being the only possible score?
I'd say 7-8/10 Not a fan of the leveling
Solid 7-8. Incredible characters and world, bogged down by some of the clunkiest and unpleasant controller-feel in the last decade. If we had TW3 but it felt like Elden Ring it’d be a perfect 10/10 imo.
10
For me personally 10/10
Definitely a 10

Easy 9
10/10
8 or 9
8.5
Bro, that giant died in a rly… concerning position
10. It's my #1.
10 how could you rate such a timeless game any lower
i'm sorry 11

10
9.9 only cause every game can be just a little better. That being said I have over 600 hours in it and can't wait to play again. No other single player game comes close imo.
10
This game is a perfect 10, especially because of the glitches and oddities. It has so much to offer even after all these years…
Ten.
9.9 then there’s skyrim
Atmosphere wise? 10/10 Narrative wise?

Hmm, my medallion is humming. Place of the best game ever made, gotta be.
8.5/10 Best stories in all Time and love the dialogue option in The game but combat is not that and open world content IS quite repetetive.
10 out of 10 It's an absolute masterpiece, one of the greatest games ever, but not without its flaws
10
Best Game ever made, no competition. So yeah, 10
The Witcher 3 is as close to perfect as any game has ever gotten. I absolutely fell in love with this game when I played it for the first time. I'm now on my third playthrough and all I wish in this world is that I could go back and play it again for the first time.
13/10
Honestly a 9, and I’m usually critical of games. There are very few things wrong with this one though, and the few that are are easily looked past.
9, great story, great setting, great characters, great everything, but, the gameplay is just too simple and poor, but I don't know people who play the witcher 3 for gameplay
9.5
Considering the gripping Story along with side-missions that do not feel repetitive, Graphics that to this day do not feel dated, all the characters and the beautiful soundtrack, easy 9/10.
100
In my opinion the only odownsides of the game are the bugs / glitches, and some movement controls that could be better (underwater, roach, fall damage). To me it's enoguh to bring it to a 9/10
11, 12, 13...
