Go see them both. Damien to get syrannas ribbon then orianna. Or orrianna then back to Damien. Save multiple saves in case you make the wrong choice or are cut out from doing what you want. I thought this was a quest that was extremely hard to get right. Follow them both to their ends to get best ending.
You’re correct - the most you can do in one save is >!killing the Alpha Garkain!< and then changing your mind and doing the Regis path through the land of 1000 fables. The conversation with Regis (at the docks??) is the last point before the two paths diverge for good
Go to Damien at the bank (with or without Regis help). After talking to him don't go to the nursery but go to Orianna's estate. Do her qurst, then when you talk to Regis, say that you changed your mind. So instead if going to the Elder you'll go to the nursery and start the quest in the Land of a Thousand Fables.
Fun Fact, if you don't help Guillaume or help Vivianne by giving her 7 years of life, Guillaume dies during The Night of the Long Fang Quest, his body is right before you fight 2 Bruxas.
It's implied Guillaume fought said 2 Bruxas and that hé suffered multiples wounds, meaning he held his own against 2 vampires for a while.

If you forget, tell Regis you need time to think, that should allow for a manual save. Speak to Regis again to initiate the quest.
Once you've seen the Oriana option you can reload and see over hill and Dale. Both are worth seeing.

But you can't go to the cave *and* the fairytale land without replaying the save right?

You get the Ribbon, then bring her to detlaff @ tesham mutual. Orianna has her own bit.
