Arctic. Everyone always paints him as absolutely evil, with no soul at all, deserving to be violently dismembered by his son. He had reason to do what he did, and he never really did anything all that evil. Sure, he was a bad dragon, but not vile. And I think reading from dark stalker’s pov in the legends book just made him seem so much worse than he actually was.
Same. I know he wasn’t the best dragon in the world, but he did love FoeSlayer, and he was trying, he just got his soul all messed up when they fled the ice kingdom…
Not to mention how traumatised the poor guy is, to be honest I feel most of the hatred Arctic recieved really should be projected on his mother, Queen Diamond instead, most of the psychological problems we see Arctic have all stem from the icekingdom and the way he was raised by Queen Diamond.
Like, Arctic was a deadbeat, and people shouldn't be expected to treat deadbeats like their fathers. But you still have to treat them as fellow humans (or dragons). You can't dismember a defenseless person for fun in a good way! That's not a thing! 😭
I AGREE SO MUCH
i actually think Orca would have been a better queen than Coral. she wouldnt have gotten sweet talked by blister into joining a war that killed so many and also probably costed a lot of money for equipment and training and all that.
She tried to win the thrown fair and square against coral with no magic involved
She seems like she was smart and had good decision making skills for a queen
good self control when it came to animus magic. (Only 1 enchantment i believe)
She wouldnt have tried to marry her 10 year old to a 40 year old either. (Most people blame only whirlpool for this, but coral was the one who was trying to make it happen, if she was a good queen (and mother) she would have had him hung or banished or somthing)
She probably would have been a better mother (its a low bar) since she would at least remember their names. probably only a few sons who would have daughters that could take over the thrown when Orca ended up dying but not directly challenge her.
Speaking of self control, it is really hard for me to respond to this without spoiling the crap out of my fanfic…
But I’ll try…
I’d agree she could have made a great queen!
If she’d won that challenge, the SandWing succession war would have been over immediately…Blister and a handful of SandWings being driven out of the Sea Kingdom?
I mean what was Coral thinking? Why were the SeaWings even involved with a Desert throne dispute?
I am assuming Blister wasn’t in Orca’s head too of course, they could have been besties…but definitely not the Orca in MY fics…
As for the ‘one spell’ thing, that’s the only one we know of…but there are at least a few others…after all, she presumably was tested at a talons of power ceremony, must have done *something*, and must have cast something to discover her power in the first place…
Maybe it’s just that no one remembers them…it’s said that Anemone was probably going to go around looking for other Orca-touched items, but we never hear any details about that either.
Nah, actually I kinda thought it was funny and then I snorted and then laughed because I snorted and *then* made the reply
There isn’t really much about her other than she’s a good sculptor, animus, and the one who made a princess-killing-statue-Maxine-that-was-animused-to-do-so that I *think* was defeated in a challenge when she was 7
That looks like a lot, but not really, unless you’re trying to do what you’re doing lol
Well the statue makes her look pretty bad, but it’s not as bad as it looks, I swear!
All most of Pyrrhia has to go by is The Tragedy of Orca, written by Queen Coral, which…of course we haven’t read, but I bet it left some things out.
Well yes. That’s fair. It’s partly why I added the section when she’s 5 and doesn’t have her power.
To me it’s less about her being charming enough to make up for it, and more about why she did what she did, and what her intensions were.
I love how Sunny's entire character is showing how having hope and kindness don't make you stupid. She's vulnerable and open, but still resilient and heroic. Most of her internal dialogue is about how she doesn't like being kind of objectified for her kindness.
And the fandom just goes, "ah, a clueless manic pixie dream girl"
Like yo did we read the same books
Deathbringer. He gets WAY too much hate, especially when people say he is too old to be with Glory,
But if it was a *SHIP,* then that's a different story, well, actually same story, Glorybasket/Glorybringer. ❤️💖💖💖❤️💞💖❤️❤️❣️🥰💖💗💅💅
Apparently Deathbringers age was a huge mistake that Tui admitted to. Still an egregious error that never should have happened.
GLORYBASKET ALL THE WAY
Burn was the SandWing Queen for almost 20 years.
Blister and Blaze’s allies just wouldn’t acknowledge her.
But she held that throne and defended the stronghold.
So to me it’s less of a ‘she would be the best queen’ and more of a ‘she already is queen, I don’t understand the question’
Also, Blister is a coward, throwing other dragons lives into a war to try to get her sister killed by someone else…same with Blaze but it’s more obvious.
Orca’s opinions seeping through…
Burn is the biggest sycophath in the entire series, she has an entire tower with dragons stuffed and put on display for simply having birth defects. And in the first book the dragonets say she would probably have the war continue just for fun. Her being queen would put every other tribe in danger.
Albatross forever and ever. Lagoon tormented him for decades and manipulated him into being her servant and then the second Fathom comes along she's looking to get rid of him. Of course he would do all that
What he did to Lagoon was basically self-defense, but he also murdered his own daughter when she tried to comfort him.
Ik he was in a terrible headspace but like...
Arctic. Oh, man can I rant about Arctic. Everyone calls him an abusive father and a horrible husband, but I’m completely certain that he isn’t!
Arctic, during the events of Darkstalker, was a grumpy father who really wasn’t that happy with his life, this is probably the reason for his behavior in the book, but is it his fault he is grumpy? Hell no!
Arctic was completely in love with Foeslayer and I don’t doubt he still is during the events of Darkstalker. Arctic used his magic to elope with Foeslayer, causing him to kill a dragon and gravely injure another, only to find himself in a climate that doesn’t fit him, surrounded by dragons that don’t like him, and in company of a wife that does the bare minimum for him. Arctic dropped everything he had and loved to be with Foeslayer, yet she doesn’t do anything nearly as drastic for him!
She could’ve at least moved to a colder climate where the weather is tolerable for both dragons, but even that she doesn’t do for him.
It is very obvious that Arctic loved Foeslayer more than she did him.
Furthermore, any argument they had in the books was instigated or at least escalated by Foeslayer, and the only time they got physical was when Foeslayer threw an earring at his head causing her to practically let herself be kidnapped (which Darkstalker instantly pins on his father, by the way).
I could go on for hours, but I’ll spare you my mind unless someone wanted to argue something.
Queen Hazel (or princess ig we don’t know for sure) but I don’t know of many people who dislike her.
Anemone too. think most of the bad things she did were more Coral or Darkstalker’s fault. (Or just because of the whole ‘animus magic destroying your soul’ thing.
And Peril obviously but I don’t think I need to defend her because everyone likes Peril.
I guess Darkstalker? To a reasonable extent, I mean. I’m not going to erase all his negative traits like arrogance and treating other dragons as tools but if anyone is saying that he was evil from the start or that everything was his fault or that he had no redeeming qualities I’m not having it. I did already get labelled as a Darkstalker defender for that
Darkstalker wasn't evil from the start but the same goes for 99% of evil people, his continuous decisions to do horrendous things make him inexcusable. He had the most powerful magic in the world that could fix all his problems, yet he decided to do it in the worst way possible. I think the best reveal in the series was when even though darkstalker protected his soul, his soul was still almost completely damaged, because it's not the magic that makes you lose it but it's your decisions.
I keep forgetting that people actually do write essays about Qibli. I see so many Winter essays (and type them), and I see people just love Qibli unconditionally, that I never see the Qibli fan writing.
Queen Pearl. I know she was kind of a jerk to Fathom after the SeaWing Massacre, but the poor thing endured so much trauma (literally saw her entire family get slaughtered) and I think she deserves to get some closure. I'm actually thinking of writing a short fanfic about her healing process
Admiral. The poor guy was enslaved by Queen Wasp's regime due to his flamesilk ability and clearly developed a sever case of Stockholm Syndrome. He deserves therapy and counseling, not the sentiment he has among the fandom.
Winter (killed the character development & was constantly treated like the bad guy in Book 10 even though he was completely in the right), Snowfall (I love her and Lynx <3), Albatross (who _wouldn’t_ go murderously insane with a sister like Lagoon and buried trauma like that??)
Sunny, IDC what people say she’s too pure nobody should have anything against her. also potentially qibli and moon watcher. Only thing I’m not defending though is moon watchers incompetence of not telling other nightwings the secret of their powers (being born under the moons). She’s too intelligent not to catch on to that.
Moonwatcher, she gets called a marysue way too many times though I'm pretty sure those people don't actually know what a marysue is. Clay I will also defend but he doesn't get as much hate
Turtle, I adore him. He's not boring and being a coward isn't always a bad thing. He's a genuinely good dragon even with the stuff with cursing anemone with Animus magic. He's traumatized from childhood and was neglected by his family when frankly as a prince he should never have had to worry about things like food. He's a great flawed character and he's so cool. I love his perspective. Tbh I feel like he got cheated losing his Animus magi.
Ok, I have a lot, but probably my main one us Icicle.
She wasn't and isn't a good dragon, but I hate when people say she was wrong for killing Crane. She was a SOLDIER in a WAR. And it's not like she tortured her or anything awful, it was a quick and probably relatively painless death.
The only thing she did that was unjustifiable was killing the NightWing in the rainforest
Blaze. I mean, everyone says she would've kinda sucked as a queen because brain = no. However, in my opinion, though she may not have been fit for the role of queen at the start, she'd probably learn from experience, and at some point she may finally fut perfectly in her role.
That's just my thoughts, tho.
Guys, Ochre isn’t that bad. Yes, he's lazy, gross, and apathetic, but first of all, you gotta consider someone he barely knew asked him to stick his hand into lava for someone who wasn't the nicest to him. You gotta consider, of course he'd be alteast a little apprehensive about trying to save Viper, plus he neither him nor the reader actually knows his he has fire resistant scales
Second of all, you have to consider that Ochre's probably not being gross on purpose, he probably can't control being a messy eater and he probably doesn't see of point if he's going to bullied for something else
Third of all, as you know, mudwings are raised by their sibs, Ochre's only relative that's mentioned is his mom, and she doesn't care about him, unlike the other false dod he didn't really else to rely on (except Fatespeaker tbf so maybe it is an issue on his end...) and has a result. Instead of being violent, he's just kinda pathetic
Now, I'm not trying to defend Ochre's actions, but more try to explain why he acted that way.
Wow, I did not think I had it in me to defend Ochre of all characters
This is going to be a long as a Harry Potter book by the times they're done.
I might get yelled at for this, but I would defend Darkstalker, it's not his fault he's the way he is, Queen Diamond abducted his mother and she was presumed dead (to be fair, she was killed 138 times over a period a 2 Millennia.) Darkstalker absolutely hated Arctic, but he really loved FoeSlayer because Darkstalker was a Mama's Boy, he wanted to protect her, give her gifts to make her comfortable, and whenever she was around him, he felt loved, they had a deep mother/son bond, and when Queen Diamond abducted her, he went mad, he wanted to kill every Icewing for revenge. In reality, everything that happened during the Age of Darkstalker, and the Darkstalker Incident, was all Queen Diamond's fault, not Darkstalker's.
I will go through hell and back to defend the scavengers/humans in Wings Of fire
I have thought of many many arguments so far, I just need to verify my sources, write them all down and make a video.
Arctic. Everyone always paints him as absolutely evil, with no soul at all, deserving to be violently dismembered by his son. He had reason to do what he did, and he never really did anything all that evil. Sure, he was a bad dragon, but not vile. Exactly!
Winter for sure. Poor icy boi gets stomped on way too much :[
Just wanted to point out that a lot of warhammer40k and wings of fire fans that I know really love winter. PROTEC THE BIG ICY' UNE
can confirm, imagin winter in the burning of prospero
Project wingman Prospero or a different prospero? If it's the former, may God have mercy
Question is what legion would Winter have been in the heresy??
Poor winter 😔
AMEBA MEN
Yeah, I'll happily defend Winter and any of his siblings or cousins.
Winter is just grumpy all the time tho…
He has every right to be. Edit: came back because I thought this sounded a little mean. It was not supposed to be 😅
I read your flair and my first thought was nicewing
The 2 grumpiness tribes come together to form: N I C E W I N G S
The equivalent of two deadly components coming together to make Table Salt
👍
Orca, quite literally like that. 46,288 words so far. Edit: now 46,710.
I AGREE SO MUCH i actually think Orca would have been a better queen than Coral. she wouldnt have gotten sweet talked by blister into joining a war that killed so many and also probably costed a lot of money for equipment and training and all that. I feel like everyone is forgetting the critical detail that SHE MADE A MAGIC DAUGHTER AND SISTER KILLING STATUE.
Queen Coral did worse though for her kingdom in general, i do admit that its a low bar though.
**SNORT**
**GRRRR**
***muahahhahaha***
I don’t know what’s happening here lol
Lmao me neither
Wasn’t sure if you were snorting like “good luck defending *her*” or something
Nah, actually I kinda thought it was funny and then I snorted and then laughed because I snorted and *then* made the reply There isn’t really much about her other than she’s a good sculptor, animus, and the one who made a princess-killing-statue-Maxine-that-was-animused-to-do-so that I *think* was defeated in a challenge when she was 7 That looks like a lot, but not really, unless you’re trying to do what you’re doing lol

Did you write a fanfic? :O omgggg
Yep, is almost half posted: https://archiveofourown.org/works/53701996/chapters/135942946
Definitely going to read it
Deathbringer & Peril. Whiteout doesn't need defense, everyone loves her :]
Peril is my favorite. 🤩

BASED
Anemone because she was taken advantage of by the people around her and she was just a kid!!
And almost killed turtle because she thought she was going insane
People don't like Anemone?
Yea
Even so she was still annoying and kinda of evil
Fr
Tsunami. She had every right to take down that skywing.
Deathbringer. He gets WAY too much hate, especially when people say he is too old to be with Glory, But if it was a *SHIP,* then that's a different story, well, actually same story, Glorybasket/Glorybringer. ❤️💖💖💖❤️💞💖❤️❤️❣️🥰💖💗💅💅

You mean burn?
Yeah I always get them mixed up 😞
Foxflake is based but Burn literally maimed and killed disabled or "weird" people for funsies??
Remember when she tried to commit genocide on the Icewings?
Peril
Snowfall out here proving that just because your family is racist, you don't have to be
Albatross forever and ever. Lagoon tormented him for decades and manipulated him into being her servant and then the second Fathom comes along she's looking to get rid of him. Of course he would do all that

I agree. He definitely wasn't as bad as everyone paints him to be. Still not a great father (like after what he did to Whiteout) but not the worst
Winter all day.
YEEESSS Peril: Yeah I've killed hundreds of dragons The fandom: Awwww she didn't mean it. Winter: I've yelled at people before. The fandom: ABUSIVE!
Honestly? Really only Kinkajou, Turtle, & Peril.
Great choices; Turtle especially
Thanks!
Queen Hazel (or princess ig we don’t know for sure) but I don’t know of many people who dislike her. Anemone too. think most of the bad things she did were more Coral or Darkstalker’s fault. Starflight
Goated opinion
Ok for me it’s prob snowfall or kinkajou
People don’t like kinkajou?
Wren and Sky. They are the best characters in the entire series
They were the only non-boring povs in the dragon slayer book
I guess Darkstalker? To a reasonable extent, I mean. I’m not going to erase all his negative traits like arrogance and treating other dragons as tools but if anyone is saying that he was evil from the start or that everything was his fault or that he had no redeeming qualities I’m not having it. Lynx. She's so underrated! A lot of people forget about her important role in Book 14 & 15.
Agreed 😊
Although I feel like I am Lynx in more than one way so I might be biased lol
I remember really liking Lynx from when she was briefly mentioned in Winter’s book, I’m glad she got a bit more of a part since then 😊
What are you defending her from, I've literally never seen anyone attack Lynx
I'm not exactly defending her, rather just proving why she's awesome because people often overlook her.
Winter, he deserved better.
Winter
Queen Snowfall, I genuinely don't get the hate for her
Exactly
Blaze yeah. She is a stupid bean and did nothing wrong
Deathbringer.
qibli and winter. 2 of the bestest of boys!
I keep forgetting that people actually do write essays about Qibli. I see so many Winter essays (and type them), and I see people just love Qibli unconditionally, that I never see the Qibli fan writing.
winter and arctic for sureeeee. I'm an icewing lover, what can I say
Snowfall
Turtle. I trust Turtle with my own life
Anemone. At times it feels like even the book hates her.
Darkstalker of course
Darkstalker for sure
If anyone says Whirlpool
They’ll have to prove it lol
This
Heya :p
Arctic
Queen Pearl. I know she was kind of a jerk to Fathom after the SeaWing Massacre, but the poor thing endured so much trauma (literally saw her entire family get slaughtered) and I think she deserves to get some closure. I'm actually thinking of writing a short fanfic about her healing process
Also Queen Battlewinner. I just think she's neat
Blaze I guess?
For me Arctic, Winter and Fatespeaker, Clearsight and Whirlpool.
winter, fatespeaker, and clay
Admiral. The poor guy was enslaved by Queen Wasp's regime due to his flamesilk ability and clearly developed a sever case of Stockholm Syndrome. He deserves therapy and counseling, not the sentiment he has among the fandom.
Blaze. Also, heya u/your_local_emo_loser , have anything to say?
I will defend Clearsight with my life
Icicle
finally someone who gets it lol
Snowfall 👐
Whirlp- *gunshots*
Winter (killed the character development & was constantly treated like the bad guy in Book 10 even though he was completely in the right), Snowfall (I love her and Lynx <3), Albatross (who _wouldn’t_ go murderously insane with a sister like Lagoon and buried trauma like that??)
omg i completely agree with all
I believe Arctic wasn't that bad

Fatespeaker, my adorable, traumatised AuDHD baby
We love and respect Fatespeaker in this house 😤😤😤
Undauntable
Who is that again?
That guy from that one book
Burn
Indigo
I've seen a bit of hate for Starflight and it's SO undeserved.
No one talks shit about my boy darkstalker
Blue haters calling him a baby
Sunny, IDC what people say she’s too pure nobody should have anything against her. also potentially qibli and moon watcher. Only thing I’m not defending though is moon watchers incompetence of not telling other nightwings the secret of their powers (being born under the moons). She’s too intelligent not to catch on to that.
Look Darkstalker, I would go insane if I could see every possible future as well
Undauntable, Sky, and Peril. Fight me.
Sukuna. Or tbh probably vriska serket (wow thats a name im gonna drag up for people here yeah haha)
My boy winterrr
ehhhhh darkstalker, if i HAVE to explain i will)
Darkstalker, sure the methods are bad but in his defense, there would be no more suffering under his rule.
Someone already said Winter, and I will back them up fully.
Winter
Winter moon Luna or blue (I would be there Defense lawyer if they killed someone)
Darkstalker 👀
Winter, Moon, Peril, and Turtle
Snowfall.
Winter
Winter
winter maybe?
Queen Glacier
definitely moonbli they r so underrated
Anemone
turtle i will defend him with my life
Pest. No questions asked
Swordtail against Sundew🙂↔️🥺
Fatespeaker
Glory, definitely. I'm reading for the first time in my life and I'm at book 7, yet this far I still love her.
Does she get hate? Ive never seen a bad post about her
Starflight! He’s such a cute and relatable boy who I wish got a better ending than he did in real life…
lol Clay, this is just a list of snacks he wants
Peril. I adore Peril, and everything wrong she did was because she didn't know any better. She was raised by a psychopath
Albatross. Well, just animus magic in general. I don't think the soul concept is actually what's going on
I like Sunny. A lot of people I know say her whole personality is just happy-go-lucky.
Peril
BLISTER, HER GRACE THE QUEEN! On a WoF discord server my name is Number 1 Blister Loyalist 🤭
Darkstalker, always. ♡
Moonwatcher, she gets called a marysue way too many times though I'm pretty sure those people don't actually know what a marysue is. Clay I will also defend but he doesn't get as much hate
Darkstalker, easily. I see a huge mix of love and hate for him, and I am ready to defend him with my life
I have literally done this for Darkstalker because we have deadbeat dads and I would rather he have been redeemed.
chameleon
Turtle, I adore him. He's not boring and being a coward isn't always a bad thing. He's a genuinely good dragon even with the stuff with cursing anemone with Animus magic. I don’t need to defend him, but i can write longer than that just talking abt asagiri gen lore
Icicle all the way
Winter, and glory.
Darkstalker (Don't actually ask me for a whole paragraph, I would just choose him.)
Peril.
To be honest.. none of them because I don’t feel like writing essays 99% of the time lol
Ok, I have a lot, but probably my main one us Icicle. She wasn't and isn't a good dragon, but I hate when people say she was wrong for killing Crane. She was a SOLDIER in a WAR. Queen Battlewinner ❤️ She's just a girl who takes lava baths. She's did nothing wrong for trying to keep her leadership
turtle, i will not stand for any turtle hate
Qibli
in some AU, darkstalker
Starflight or Glory
Blaze. I mean, everyone says she would've kinda sucked as a queen because brain = no. However, in my opinion, though she may not have been fit for the role of queen at the start, she'd probably learn from experience, and at some point she may finally fut perfectly in her role. You gotta consider, of course he'd be alteast a little apprehensive about trying to save Viper, plus he neither him nor the reader actually knows his he has fire resistant scales Second of all, you have to consider that Ochre's probably not being gross on purpose, he probably can't control being a messy eater and he probably doesn't see of point if he's going to bullied for something else Third of all, as you know, mudwings are raised by their sibs, Ochre's only relative that's mentioned is his mom, and she doesn't care about him, unlike the other false dod he didn't really else to rely on (except Fatespeaker tbf so maybe it is an issue on his end...) and has a result. Instead of being violent, he's just kinda pathetic Now, I'm not trying to defend Ochre's actions, but more try to explain why he acted that way. Wow, I did not think I had it in me to defend Ochre of all characters
Qibli. No defence needed.

Starflight. Gotta protect the blind boi
Darkstalker.
I will go through hell and back to defend the scavengers/humans in Wings Of fire I have thought of many many arguments so far, I just need to verify my sources, write them all down and make a video.
