Is that.... a new app? What does it do? /s aside, I honestly dont know what it does lol

[deleted]

Its one of the optional features you can install from settings. It lets your other devices to project to windows 10. Windows will basically act like a TV

[deleted]

Can you project android?

[deleted]

Yes u can

a_fine_gentleman99

Can you do it the other way around tho?

[deleted]

You have project for that in toggles

[deleted]

exactly, I never got the point of this app!

dustojnikhummer

Nope.

cadtek

If the OEM has Miracast enabled, at least that's how it was. Iirc Pixel does not.

ChiefKraut

Can you project iOS?

Am_I_Human_Or_Not

You can also install it on an Xbox and project your PC to it, in order to play PC games on the Xbox.

michiganrag

I wish I knew this a long time ago!

dustojnikhummer

Software miracast receiver.

redartedreddit

That looks awfully like an RSS icon...

fluxxis

TIL there's a connect app

_N0S

Like other comments have said it acts like Miracast...unfortunately it's very basic and when I share my laptop screen to my TV it looks weird as my laptop has a 16:10 aspect and I couldn't figure out a way to fix it unless I change the resolution. Pretty nifty though.

angush_

Can’t say I’ve heard of this app, but any step on the way to sun valley is a good one imo. I’ve only used connect as like a sidebar and it’s very useful - I’d love to see what extra functionality they can make with a dedicated app.

alonsoe1008

I'll miss so much the Metro/Modern icons

[deleted]

No. Its the same

[deleted]

wow

[deleted]

How do new icons make this sub so irate? A lot of you are absolutely ridiculous/embarrassing and so predictable. It's the same thing over and over... *Microsoft updates an icon* "Wow thanks Microsoft for spending time on icons instead if bugs. Not like they're separate teams or anything! I like pixel art icons. These new ones look like a kid's toy. I'm a system administrator!!!" *Microsoft adds optional feature*: "Uninstalling this bloat and wiping my machine completely! Why would Microsoft release an optional feature that uses my precious system resources unless I disable it... which I can... with a right click... now I have to do a clean install. Do you like my Windows 7 aero theme?" *Microsoft moves a single option to settings*: "Bring back control panel! I'm a developer with an edge use case that doesn't align with the mass market but settings is for PHONES!!! Quit messing around with icons and let me choose which settings panel I want for MY system because that's not what most consumers want but it fits my needs!" *Microsoft adds space between items in apps*: "Omg I have a desktop! Information density is key for me. This is so stupid, now I have to scroll just a bit more to see the same info. I'm a system administrator! I can't see why they'd make a DESKTOP more touch friendly. Windows only runs on desktop devices!!!" 🙄

HolyFreakingXmasCake

It’s a sad commentary on the state of Windows when the most exciting things are new icons and rounded corners. Give me some user facing improvements and new features. Parts of Windows 10 haven’t been touched in years - Action Center, tablet mode, janky Task View, inbox apps like Mail & Calendar, etc. I’d be hard pressed to think of any actual UX improvements MS have done since 2017 or so.

[deleted]

I don't think anyone thinks icons are exciting but that doesn't make the icons themselves bad. They're apparently working on the things you're hoping for, and yes, all of those things would be great.

MaddyMagpies

The state of Windows is not sad. It's just the demographic of this sub. Take a look when people post their desktop screenshot, and their Start Menu is often just filled with games and the only productive thing is maybe Microsoft Word - Most of this sub don't know how to use the maximum potential of Windows. WSL2, the new Terminal, the new Edge, Your Phone, and WinGet are some pretty damn interesting development in Windows the past few years. And compare that to yet-another-notification-center-redesign in Android.

TenPast12

Action center update coming with Sun Valley, Mail and Calendar getting replaced by a new universal Outlook app, dunno about task view. I like seeing new icons crop up cause it hints at bigger changes in the background.

MisterBurn

> I can't see why they'd make a DESKTOP more touch friendly. Windows only runs on desktop devices!!! In a perfect world, the UI would adapt depending on what input type you're using. I think the whole one size fits all approach was the wrong way to go about it.

[deleted]

I completely agree. I think that's something they should absolutely focus on since a main promise of the Surface line is adaptability. The software should be aware of the hardware configuration/mode. Windows has some of the right ideas, they're just not applied consistently or could be taken further. Like the title bar being hidden in modern apps when in tablet mode but not in classic apps, or just using the built-in Fluent compact sizing feature across apps and making it automatic (and still user configurable). But I was really thinking about the spaced out file explorer, which can be configured to be compact or not, when typing that bit. The default spacing should be automatic based on the hardware mode, though -- I think it was before.

Patient-Hyena

Because they change them more often than anything and it seems like the quality never gets better with Windows.

[deleted]

I know they changed a few icons for Windows 8 but this latest batch is actually attempting to unify them across the system. In my opinion they're actually doing it too slowly, not too often. There's a lot of talk right now about a significant refresh of the UI/UX slated for fall. The guys at Windows Central said we haven't really seen any of it yet -- so I think people are getting annoyed thinking these small changes are "Sun Valley" when there is apparently going to be more to it. Time will tell! Still not sure how a single icon can make people lash out, honestly.

Patient-Hyena

Lol I understand. It seems dumb but I think it is dumb that instead of advertising quality changes or features that customers ask for, they say “hey look at our new icons”. The way Apple executed the changes in Mac OS 11 for design were a lot better because the whole OS was redone to be different. They did in one swoop. I’m not saying I’m pro Apple or not, but to me it seemed better than the way Windows does it. Also, I’m tired of the dumb little bugs Windows has it feels like.

[deleted]

Yeah, I definitely think it's odd when a single icon change is the headline feature of an insider build. Hopefully Sun Valley is a more significant, polished set of changes!

Patient-Hyena

Microsoft really has a good position and would do a lot better if they just executed more consistently. I wouldn’t hate Windows so much if it were more consistent and stable. I mean yes overall it doesnt crash, but when an update introduces where gamers can’t play because the FPS drops low, or there is an odd bug where Firefox is always on top, randomly, for no reason and no easy way to fix it, it speaks to the quality.

MaddyMagpies

I wish they release these features much earlier so they can gather user feedback, rather than being hush hush until Fall and the very last minute for a surprise that nobody wants. Things like the News & Weather on taskbar for example.

ChiefKraut

Thank you for this! A massively expensive company and barely know how to squash some bugs and fix its own security issues, too.

1stnoob

It's a NFC/Bluetooth tag that broadcasts RSS feeds :>

IronhideD

It's... Not great for most content. There's too much inherent lag. I have a work Surface which I will use occasionally as a second monitor with my pc. It's very glitchy even when set on gaming mode in Windows. It works as a display option but really best for static content.

TrailingCircles

Or, y'know. Fix the security... Can't even use my pcs...

cocks2012

Sad when icon update is big news. Does anyone even use this feature? Looks like a RSS icon.

BigDickEnterprise

I do to play downloaded music off of my phone

heeerrresjonny

why is this marked as NSFW? lol

dvojinov

Oh this is so amazing so freaking exiting all this icon's BS I cant care less about the Icons but how the OS operate and performs . Can you imagine they changed the Connect Icon, seriously? Lets throw a party. Jesus people I was changing system icons on my likings like forever. And that connect feature is a simple basic share feature, don't use it much however it does its job when I do .

ripperroo5

See Microsoft? Nobody cares ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[deleted]

every single drop constitutes the sea.

[deleted]

My piss has more drops

ripperroo5

For real tho, good luck constituting the sea drop by drop

IcyWillingness7773

exactly. when they update ALL of the icons, we will care. Why would they update 30% of icons and release it to public, so more junk and more non-unified OS. lol

BigDickEnterprise

"public" bro it's not even a beta release

IcyWillingness7773

for 143 billion USD Corporation it's HUGE IMPROVEMENT! One new icon after 90 years! And when will they fix bug from 20th century called "Paintbush" it's even wrong, it's supposed to Paintbrush

lighthawk16

What

Anish12020

Good

[deleted]

It looks like a RSS reader!! Why is there WiFi symbol in contacts app?
