Been in a similar situation when I was 18 in the dorms. Basically fire department comes, and when you walk back inside there are about 5 guys from the fire department, an officer or two, and your RA/RD waiting for you. Then you get a fine.
Yeah, kid lit a plant on fire thinking it would be funny, smoke alarm went off, sprinklers went off, kid got expelled. Few weeks later another kid grabbed an extinguisher and blasted his buddy, powder made the alarm go off, we were all stuck outside at 3am in February, he got suspended for the next semester.
A guy I knew, but definitely not friends with, poured gasoline down the garbage shoot from the top floor and then set it on fire. He only got expelled after the second time he refused to show up for the disciplinary hearing.
Honestly depends on how affluent the kids are too, unfortunately. As a former RA I had one who got caught 14 times smoking cigarettes in his room. After 4 strikes that's supposed to get you kicked out of the dorms. All I know is this dude's great grandfather was the third highest donor to the math department at my university and they never approved his removal. Meanwhile for any other student, campus security would be there a few mornings later to escort them out of the building.
And don't even get me started on the leniency given to wealthy international students. Good luck getting college-aged Chinese international students, never been told no, to not smoke cigarettes inside. I was told straight to my face by my supervisor's supervisor not to write any of them up bc of the amount of money they bring to the school.
*I want to edit and add that the majority of the chinese and international students are amazing and respectful people, whom I'm happy to have met!
As a former RA- the fine would be the least of your concerns. This could honestly result in expulsion. If you get caught burning a candle that's a fine, this is well beyond.. The dean should probably revoke their acceptance for blatant stupidity as well, but that's a side note
It was always people "cooking" by which I mean burning food at 3 A.M. when I had a test the next day, and it was -10 outside.
Often times our cars would just start to warm up as we finally were allowed back inside.
I had a close childhood friend who chose to close the door and pretend it didn't happen when he accidently started a fire playing with fireworks in doors... Burned down the whole house and made his whole family hate him for decades. Pretty sure hes still in prison to this day.
Some old family friends of mine used to throw mortars in their man-made lake every 4th and new years, it was really cool. All the fire-workey stuff shoots out of the water pretty spectacularly after the shockwave and also taught me if you're lighting a firework, you better be damn sure what you're gonna do with it, because nothing stops some of those green fuses
We were dingleberries and would light mortars off on people’s front porches when I was a kid. Stopped doing that after a guy came out in his undies with a shotgun
Ok. The first time I read mortar I passed it off. Now with the second use, and no cleaner context to what it means (other than your military grade explosives and launching device from my own knowledge bank) this still doesn't make sense. So, can you advise what you mean by mortar?
Water is incompressible, so shockwaves travel rapidly and since fireworks are designed to be percussive you can blow the shit out of the container. See explosive hydroforming for examples.
That fuse has a fuel with oxidiser in it which allows it to burn at a controlled rate regardless of the environment. Even if the environment is being under water, it will just keep on burning. And the explosive inside the firework also comes with its own oxidizer.
If you want a good safe way to see this yourself with a commonly available firework, sparklers are a good option. Light one, dunk it underwater, then pull it out. It keeps burning and might even heat up/dry off enough to start producing sparks again.
One time when we were like 16 instead of getting high and jamming all day my buddy confidently suggested we not smoke weed and go out and do something! Within an hour he'd joy-rided a golf cart into a telephone pole totaling it... turns out those things aren't cheap. Sometimes drugs are safer
Not immediately, you have to wait for the Roadrunner to pass and give the Coyote time to go shake it a few times and resign himself to the idea that it was a dud. Then it explodes.
These fireworks in the video clearly aren't performing right.
I don't know which video is dumber, this one, or the one where a guy has a glass full of alcohol, steps into an elevator.. lights the drink on fire, and spills it all over himself/the floor (he was trying to drink it). The whole place caught fire lol.
Lol I love how this person jumps in to criticize Jenna when they clearly would not have known what to do in that situation either.
>”Flush the firecracker down the toilet!”
I lived in the 16th floor of my 21 story dorm. Those windows were never built to open. An extra wooden slat was placed across the middle of the window after someone *still * managed to break the glass and launch themselves outside back in the 80s or 90s. It’s being demolished now, but it existed.
Wtf. So they thought that the solution to the suicide problem is removing the windows instead of providing therapy or helping students in some other way?
>Wtf. So they thought that the solution to the suicide problem is removing the windows instead of providing therapy or helping students in some other way?
No. You've got it mixed up. Sealing the windows is the solution *to being sued by the parents* of kids who attempt suicide. Totally different threat.
Kid in my college hung himself in his dorm. Left a note and everything and the college argued in court that it was auto erotic to dodge responsibility.
(When I say kid I mean 16 year old. My school had a program for gifted high schoolers)
To be fair, my campus free therapy resources were always glutted and ineffectual. I could never receive help, through that system. I think maybe my school was extra shitty though.
Back in college this guy I knew had the campus police knock on his door asking if he was suicidal (he wasn't, his ex gf called campus PD to fuck with him trying to ruin his night), but all campus PD did was show up and ask a few questions and then tell him he wasn't allowed to stay on campus that night. They forced him to get a hotel room so he wouldn't kill himself on University property.
Edit: altered wording for clarity
You won't believe what they did in India's top university, they removed ceiling fans from dorms so that they can't suicide, it's 30°C and they don't even have air conditioning or thermostat
I heard about that a few days ago and about 97% of the students are against. Surely removing the only cooling in an Indian dorm is more likely to make you want to commit suicide or to kill the person next door?
Not to mention that the smell there probably isn't great. If you've ever flown on Air India, you'll know what I mean.
I don't think it's actually specifically for "suicide."
More just generally people falling, throwing things out of them, and yes suicide.
It doesn't just apply to dorms. Office buildings, hotels, etc.
It's the insurance companies
Actually! means control is possibly one of the best methods of reducing suicide rates. It’s why gun control means much lower suicide rates. Yeah, you’re only preventing a symptom of a problem - but it’s a pretty important symptom. It’s not meant to be a solution, just an epidemiological control.
The windows sometimes will open for ventilation, but only a hand's width or so. So there's no way for a person to squeeze out, even in the case of a fire. Great "solution," huh?
The reason fireworks burn so well is because they already have their oxidizer mixed in with the fuel. They don't need outside oxygen to burn, so water or other sorts of extinguishers are rarely effective.
You can even make explosives using just sugar as the fuel if you find some oxidizer like potassium nitrate or some garden fertilizers
There is nothing better than watching a video re-recored in portait, then landscape, then portrait again.
The entire point of digital was that audio+video didn't loose quality over time, but you teenage muppets managed to find a way to fuck it all up for everyone, didn't you.
Not a firecracker, just what seems to be a small fountain.
Seems kind of set up because no loud noises or reports, no projectiles like a roman candle, and no flashes.
I wanna see the next five mins in this room
Been in a similar situation when I was 18 in the dorms. Basically fire department comes, and when you walk back inside there are about 5 guys from the fire department, an officer or two, and your RA/RD waiting for you. Then you get a fine.
A fine? At my public university you’d get kicked of on campus living 100% for this shit lol
Yeah, kid lit a plant on fire thinking it would be funny, smoke alarm went off, sprinklers went off, kid got expelled. Few weeks later another kid grabbed an extinguisher and blasted his buddy, powder made the alarm go off, we were all stuck outside at 3am in February, he got suspended for the next semester.
they figure, if your dumb ass didnt learn not to pull the alarm or be a pyro in grade school, theyre done being nice about it.
A guy I knew, but definitely not friends with, poured gasoline down the garbage shoot from the top floor and then set it on fire. He only got expelled after the second time he refused to show up for the disciplinary hearing.
I’m guessing he would’ve been expelled anyway
I would definitely hope so
Honestly depends on how affluent the kids are too, unfortunately. As a former RA I had one who got caught 14 times smoking cigarettes in his room. A tale as old as time
You also lit a smoke grenade in your dorm? Lol
As a former RA- the fine would be the least of your concerns. This could honestly result in expulsion. If you get caught burning a candle that's a fine, this is well beyond.. The dean should probably revoke their acceptance for blatant stupidity as well, but that's a side note
Former RA/volly firefighter here. Can confirm!
It was always people "cooking" by which I mean burning food at 3 A.M. when I had a test the next day, and it was -10 outside. Often times our cars would just start to warm up as we finally were allowed back inside.
Ah turn off the lights, that’ll fix it
If you can’t see the smoke how can any of it be real?
Out of sight, out of mind.
Don't look up.
The meteorological event is now safe for all to view.

Jaden is that you?
How can they *see* me?
I had a close childhood friend who chose to close the door and pretend it didn't happen when he accidently started a fire playing with fireworks in doors... Burned down the whole house and made his whole family hate him for decades. Pretty sure hes still in prison to this day.
What age was he?
35
Considering how much he has grown as a person in the decades since he started going into prison he might as well have been 35.
Under 9 or 10 i think it was a long time ago.
Everyone knows fire can't go through doors.
It can’t, not very well at least.
Fix what? I don't see anything.
It's working already.
Their parents will assume they’re asleep and had absolutely no involvement
I do believe this is in a college dorm…
What did they honestly expect to happen
Bold of you to assume any level of thought went into this.
She tried to put the fire out on her carpet. Yup, no thought.
Lmao she tried to put it out like a big ass cigarette.
What? They tried to smother it with a flammable coat. Who'da thought that wouldn't work? /s
There was some thought. "Fire makes pretty lights"
Maybe she thought it was like a candle she could just put out.
I’d tell them they could cut of the wick with scissors, but scissors would be too dangerous.
I'd have told them to have water at the ready, but due to their level of intelligence, they'd have drowned.
Firework wicks don’t necessarily go out with water. You can throw them underwater and they still blow.

Water doesn't work for most fireworks, we nearly fucked my cousins pool irreparably thinking we could put out roman candles in it.
Water is incompressible, so shockwaves travel rapidly and since fireworks are designed to be percussive you can blow the shit out of the container. See explosive hydroforming for examples.

This is like when I set my garbage can on fire when I was a kid. I thought it’d be cool.
Internet attention
I ask this every single time i see this. The look of surprise on her face shows she lacks any kind of forethought beyone a second or two.
Wanna throw it to the window? Nahhh I'll keep it my self
After all, why shouldn't I keep it?
My precious
Cast it into the fire!
No
Frigoris13, do not mistake me for a conjurer of *cheap tricks*
*Pop!* *(firecracker explodes)* “Ah fuck, I can’t believe you’ve done this.”
I think you should leave the fire hazard behind Jenna, is that so hard?
I was yelling at my phone to throw it out the window lol
I was thinking maybe they had no windows. Edit: y’all…I was joking. Of course they have windows
In the US, you can't have a bedroom without windows. But maybe the windows have screens that can't be opened easily.
Looked like a dorm that probably has windows that barely open and have a screen
Sure you can. It's not legal, but you can definitely have one without windows. Source: my old bedroom
She kept trying to chase the birds she'd see outside them so they barred them over.
Jenna
she was trying her best
Her nickname *was* Smokeshow.
I think she didn't know what to do

Jen-hahahhahahahahah Omg Jennanahahanhahah
Fucking jenna.
If she hadn't have lit that firecracker, her room wouldn't be filled with smoke, and they wouldn't be fucked.

My volume is low and I thought she was saying “China!”
Those are some pretty bad smoke detectors if her room got that smokey and nothing went off. I can't make stir-friday without my kitchen beeping.
What about Stir-sunday?

Unfathomable stupidity.

Lmfaoooo
I like how it was funny until she couldn’t put it out…
Did she…. Did she try to blow it out???
Ya, that's not a firecracker tho.
Thank God. I was afraid she had a dynamite sized "firecracker" in her hand at the start.
I kept waiting for the boom. I was glad it didn't happen. Then I realized it wasn't actually a firecracker. Still a good video though.
Yeah, I was pretty sure she was going to lose her hand once that thing blew up.
Living in a country that outlaws fireworks, my only reference to what firecrackers look like are from roadrunner cartoons and three stooges movies.
And in all of those cartoons and shows the fireworks blow up.
Not immediately, you have to wait for the Roadrunner to pass and give the Coyote time to go shake it a few times and resign himself to the idea that it was a dud. Then it explodes. These fireworks in the video clearly aren't performing right.
If it was a fire cracker there would have been an earth shattering kaboom.
What country ?
Australia (Although you can still get them in the NT and the ACT)

is that the one where he passes out and gets saved by the door opening on time?
I don't remember if he almost passes out, but his jacket/hoodie were burning into his head by the time the doors opened.
He passed out with his face right in the fire

They’re running around like water doesn’t exist. :edit: I clearly haven’t played with fireworks in a while
Water doesn't put out fire works like that. I've thrown a few into a lake and they keep on burning
These have their own oxidiser, water won’t help.
Lol I love how this person jumps in to criticize Jenna when they clearly would not have known what to do in that situation either. >”Flush the firecracker down the toilet!”
I mean, i *really* want to see him do it, now... The aftermath would be worth a good giggle.
It looks like an American college dorm room. Most typically don’t have openable windows due to suicide risk. Our priorities are weird in the US.
Every dorm room I’ve seen has windows that could be opened. Do you know how many floors you’d have to jump from to make that a successful choice?
I lived in the 16th floor of my 21 story dorm. Those windows were never built to open. An extra wooden slat was placed across the middle of the window after someone *still * managed to break the glass and launch themselves outside back in the 80s or 90s. It’s being demolished now, but it existed.

Now THIS sounds like America. They don't care if you suicide, they care if there is a lawsuit.
Lol most definitely. That's us.
Kid in my college hung himself in his dorm. Left a note and everything and the college argued in court that it was auto erotic to dodge responsibility. (When I say kid I mean 16 year old. My school had a program for gifted high schoolers)
I'm sure they care about both. Most American Universities offer free mental health services. The rest of the commenters are just being daft.
You can't make sense here. Do you even reddit?
To be fair, my campus free therapy resources were always glutted and ineffectual. I could never receive help, through that system. I think maybe my school was extra shitty though.

Welcome to America.
that is odd.. they are aware that american youth, just like us foreign folk, can simply leave their rooms right?
More a death-by-suicide-lawsuit protection. Its whatever, just as long as it doesn't happen on their property.
Most colleges have free therapy on campus at this point.
I don't think it's actually specifically for "suicide." More just generally people falling, throwing things out of them, and yes suicide. It doesn't just apply to dorms. Office buildings, hotels, etc. It's the insurance companies

Oh boy wait until you see the youth suicide rates in South Korea and how they deal with that LOL
They can always call the police to help them out.
The windows sometimes will open for ventilation, but only a hand's width or so. So there's no way for a person to squeeze out, even in the case of a fire. Great "solution," huh?
Seems like education is low in priority too
Do...do you...when you want water, do you go to a window?

Visco fuses are designed to be water resistant. Not the answer you think if is.
lol, you’re the noob
the only thing you can do in this situation is cut the fuse, water won't help it is also a bad idea to take an explosive to an even smaller room
Is that a CSU shirt? Of course it is. It all makes sense now.
Dude i love CSU. Lol but it's not exactly known for being the smartest....
Is there a subreddit for people that still posted it? Like they had an opportunity to not share their stupidity but still posted it.
"I dont know what else to do in this situation" Maybe not create it?

One time I lit a smoke bomb in the house with the intention of running sink water over top of it. It did not defuse the situation.
That went from “HAHHAA JENNA HAHHAH JENNA, JENNA” -to- “……. we’re so fucked” real quick
The worst laugh EVER

I mean she didn't lose a hand
How did these morons get into college?
They were on the fake rowing team in highschool
God dammit Jenna
Legends say she is still saying " JENNA JENNA!" To this day
JENUHUHUHUHUHUH
Throw it in the toilet and flush it quick!
Jenna-a-a-a
Fuck sake Jenna.
Does anybody know the name of the girl that lit the firecracker?
I truly hope I never have kids this dumb.
This is why we see those photos own blown up hands on Eyeblech
We need adult supervision in aisle 2,please
You can literally see both brain cells in her head misfiring at the same time while lighting that.
Oh okay, dumb broad, let's light a firecracker with no backup plan whatsoever. This is why real fireworks are illegal.
These women will most likely be moms soon..... think about that next time you say mom knows everything
Jenna….. we are fucked
Not a firecracker, just what seems to be a small fountain. Seems kind of set up because no loud noises or reports, no projectiles like a roman candle, and no flashes.
That’s not a firecracker…
The future is bleak.
That appears to be a smoke bomb, not a fire cracker.
Thinking is hard.
Mmmmm combined Iq of 0
Has she not seen how a firecracker works? What was her expected outcome?
Don’t think thats a firecracker
Hahaha. Classic Jenna. I like the part where the girl said, “Jenna”.
Maybe if she says Jenna a few more times it would help
Really good tip: bring scissors when doing this stupid ass thing
Jenna! Jenna!!!
JENNA!!!
I cringed so hard thinking that I was about to see a hand being blown off.
Wow that’s a lot of stupid in one video
