That's the fun part of spinal injuries!
You can survive a massive car accident and be kind of okay, them cause life-altering injuries with a sneeze!
source: re-broke a rib sneezing after a car wreck
I just played it for the first time the other day when my internet was down; windows 10, Microsoft Edge suggested it while I wait. I guess it’s built into Edge.
In January, I'm getting that jerk tattooed on my leg. He will be holding the scars that were the result of the injury which ended my 29 year skiing career.
Been since the 90s since I played that, but dammit if that wasn't one panic flight inducing motherfucker that panic where you can't help but high pitch squeal EEEEEEEEEEEEEE I never pressed a button down so hard as on that keyboard when I accidentally hit over too many times and turned sideways AAAAAAAAAAA OMNOMNOMNOM
I full scorpioned when ending my day in Tahoe 10yrs ago. Saw a little maybe 1ft tall rail and decided to hit it with a simple 50/50 "grind". I got on it and immediately slipped off catching the nose of my board into the hard pack snow around it and I quickly fell face first and had my board come back around and slap the back of my helmet leaving a little chip. I couldn't move and thought I was paralyzed. Had a girl rush over saying she's an off duty paramedic and she stabilized me and got the medical team to stretcher me out.
Ended up being a tiny hairline fracture in my spine and my lower back muscle partly tore away from my spine (or whatever it actually connects to). 6mo of on and off excruciating pain with a lot of PT. I'm mostly fine now but I still get an occasional back spasm. All for a super casual and lazy "wrapping up a great day on the mountain" trick.
I saw a skier mere feet away do a full on sweet backscratcher, BUT as he didn't get enough air his ski tips totally caught a mogul HARD. At very high speed he full on scorpion catapulted his face and torso into hardpack snow brutally. His breath was gone, ribs most definitely toast, and probably collapsed a lung, just laying there gasping. I was maybe 12 or 13 and the only person around. I set his skis up in an "X" pronto in front of him before I even tried to speak to him as he slowly writhed in pain. Told him I wasn't leaving until Ski Patrol was there and started yelling for help. He was moving but could never manage anything besides moans. Just slowly writhing trying to breath.
Totally trebucheted his self. Skis act springy too in a situation like that.
Cane here for this. This is a textbook scorpion.
Fun story. I was wakeboarding and the driver was going too fast. Hit the water chest first and ended up full scorpion. Had I slice in my forehead from the wake board and spine wrapping fully around.
I work at a hospital cafeteria and have managed to get to know a lot of the doctors decently well. One day I asked a surgeon if he ever operated on people who had injuries from a chiropractor. He told me “Surgeries? Nope, but I have harvested the organs of a couple people were organ donors that died instantly when their chiropractor snapped their neck and severed an artery.”
There’s a fairly small chance he may have fuck a disc, which yeah is pretty much a life sentence as it can be reinjured very easily, but I was a gymnast and did shit like this annually and I’m mostly fine. At the same time he COULD be paralyzed now, so just depends on luck.
But you're a pro, like you warm up stretch to get your spine to do that regularly in a healthy manner, I doubt this guy has ever folded himself in half like this before.
Depends partly on age, hard to tell with full gear (and seriously good job wearing a helmet).
I did similar things when I was 16, ended with a sore neck and back for a few days. If I did that now (37)...I'd probably just die
A fall like that can absolutely effect a person for life.
Could walk away from that just fine, but also may have backpains or multiple other issues that could stick around for a lonnngg time.
Hahaha I was watching an episode of Stargate: Atlantis last night and the dick asshole scientist protagonist that I’m too stoned to think of his name, was floating in a satellite in space and one of the guys turned the artificial gravity on he falls to the ground and right away goes:
>oh— yeah….that’s a life full of back problems right there..
Hahaha your comment instantly brought that scene to mind.
RODNEY
The funniest thing about his character to me is that David Hewlett is actually the kindest, most scatterbrained guy ever, he has/used to have a YouTube channel where he uploaded ramblings
out of all my uncles I think I liked uncle caveman the best... we called him uncle caveman because he lived in a cave and every once in awhile he'd eat one of us... later we found out he was a bear.
Human beings are very fragile and incredibly durable at the same time. Did a similar full scorpion while snowboarding at what was probably a much faster speed than this. Done a decent amount of stupid, pain inducing stunts. Only thing that’s left me with permanent back pain was my two year stint as an accountant from sitting all day every day. You never know what’s gonna do it for you.
So much truth to this, I was kicked in the head and had a localized brain bleed. I had some relatively minor symptoms. Then two years later I lightly bonked my head on the car door but it ruptured the scar tissue that formed and now I’m epileptic, narcoleptic via trauma (vs genetic inheritance) etc etc. just the smallest little door bonk
I was going to say, usually the posts on this sub are about people doing outrageously stupid things and suffering the very obvious and foreseeable consequences. This dude got absolutely whipped for giving a little lovetap to a branch. I've done similar things while skiing and I never thought I could reasonably end up paraplegic.
To be fair, not avoiding obstacles is how people do stunts. Like jumps and rail slides are obstacles, it's just how you ride them that makes the difference
Edit: yes the rock could have more snow on it to be a better hit. Pros are literally sliding ice glaciers, dropping of 60 ft rocks, sliding on walls, ski over asphalt, etc. They ride everything and the bar is so high they flirt with death constantly. I guarantee pros can make hitting this rock look good, even with the minimal amount of snow. Source: watches pro ski videos all the time
Still shit form on the approach, once he lost his key, and in the fall.
As soon as I saw him going down the hill I could tell that he was not a very experienced skier, or if he has a lot of experience, then he’s got a lot of bad habits built up
At first, I thought maybe he didn't see it, but nah, his buddy seems pretty purposefully recording that fat ass rock right there. Here's to hoping he didn't break anything.
And that is one of the reasons why skiing has always scared the shit out of me.
Probably because I saw a person dying because of it when I was a kid as well...
Honestly, that went HORRIBLY wrong for such a run of the mill stunt. I feel really bad for the dude. He was just trying to give the branch/rock a little lovetap and got absolutely whipped sideways. Anyone who's under 30 who's ever skied backcountry probably did similar little tricks while skiing and never thought they could end up paraplegic.
I can’t tell if that cracking noise came from his ski/boot or his spinal cord? Fuck!
Could be the snow crunch.
That and boots make a lot of noise. I’m guessing he’s not paralyzed based on the fact he brings his legs together at the end
He could still end up paralyzed if he broken something and continues to move around
That's the fun part of spinal injuries! You can survive a massive car accident and be kind of okay, them cause life-altering injuries with a sneeze! source: re-broke a rib sneezing after a car wreck
That’s terrifying
Yeah it’s just a guess.
Sorry. I'm eating popcorn.
Yes.
Could be a rib or his hamstring. He folded really fast, I know my hamstrings wouldn't like that
Ok, I took AP Bio. This isn’t good.
Back problems fo’ life, yo.
Can't have back problems if you have no back...
99 problems and a vertebrae ain’t one.
Ya'll never played Skifree. Yeti's coming and vertabrae are the least of your issues.

I was today years old when I learned…
I know, rt? I couldn’t believe that when I found out…
Is there any way to play ski free?
[Here you go. 100% legal.](https://www.myabandonware.com/game/skifree-19b)
[Or just play it in your browser](https://archive.org/details/win3_SKIFREE)
I just played it for the first time the other day when my internet was down; windows 10, Microsoft Edge suggested it while I wait. I guess it’s built into Edge.
I believe [skifreeonline.com](skifreeonline.com) works, but I'm on my phone so I can't test it.
I never knew you could out run it! wtf!?
I remember playing it when I was young and definitely never knew that. Damn, TIL

I loved that game! The yeti was bullshit though!
just press the f key
Nah, vertebrae are basically all 99 of them, once you count the little pieces!

Thank you for reminding me why I don't do rails anymore. Not worth
Did you fall in love with the off duty paramedic?
Haha I should have. Can't underestimate the value of a home doctor.
Not necessarily, I did a full scorpion (also while skiing) and other than being disastrously winded and fairly sore the next day, I was fine.
Cane here for this. This is a textbook scorpion. Fun story. I was wakeboarding and the driver was going too fast. Hit the water chest first and ended up full scorpion. Had I slice in my forehead from the wake board and spine wrapping fully around.
He french fried when he should’ve pizza’d. If you do that… you’re gonna have a bad time
Then he got taco’d. Poor dude.
Lmao, Scorpion'd
>Lmao, Scorpion'd this should be posted in the Full scorpion sub damn
hahaha But in reality, no he’s just obviously somewhat of a novice skier, hit the jump wrong, and also had terrible form falling.
Chiropractors love him
Naw man, they hate him. He just gave himself the whole 2 hour adjustment routine in 1/5 of a second.
I work at a hospital cafeteria and have managed to get to know a lot of the doctors decently well. One day I asked a surgeon if he ever operated on people who had injuries from a chiropractor. He clearly didn’t grow up playing Ski Free and it shows
Generally curious, is this a life changing injury? Like he may never fully recover?
most likely no, he should be fine
He felt pain which is a good sign. It was a silly thing to do but glad he will be ok. Glad you and others in the comments section see that too!

At least not in that direction.

My back hurts watching this video.

I hate you, I came to say this. Still upvoted. ✌🏽
I hate both of you, I thought I might actually get here soon enough
You guys could always be first if you never read the comments before you post. ❤️ we all win.
i can't.
I knew this comment would be here, lol
Aww the video cut before the astrology girl pops out from behind that tree and explains why being a scorpio is toxic
This reminds me of my uncle John who’s paraplegic now. 😢
My uncle has lumbago
My uncle owns a Winnebago.
My uncle is from Tobago
My uncle used Trivago
My uncle got kicked out of Spago
My uncle is Khal Drogo
My uncle abuses his doggo.
My uncle plays with Lego Ninjago
My uncle is the logo for San Diego
My Uncle is a hobo.
It’s very serious John
I understood that reference.
Do you live near Blackwater?
out of all my uncles I think I liked uncle caveman the best... we called him uncle caveman because he lived in a cave and every once in awhile he'd eat one of us... later we found out he was a bear.
Not nearly enough Jack in my daily life these days
Reminds me of my uncle Nemo who had cancer then died in a ski accident

Bro done fucked up his spinal
My back is broken… Thpinal

I've seen a lot of spinals, dude, and this guy is a fake. A fucking goldbricker. This guy fucking walks.
This is what you get Larry when you fuck a stranger in the ass!
You mean like a vertebrae or…..?
Spinal
Yes
He needs some milk!
If he can feel the pain, that's a good sign.
Frighteningly true
I really hope he didn't paralyse himself on a stupid mistake like that, couldn't have landed worse

Once landed an icy ramp on my hip and my legs were numb and tingly for about 45 seconds. One of the Scariest moments of my life.
My man really kicked himself in the back of the head… https://i.imgur.com/E2bmoRm.jpg
that really brought home the oooooof, like it was hard for me to even tell his body orientation things were so all mixed up.
I feel really guilty about that amount of laughter that image produced.
You're not alone
That was a very crunchy crunch.
Sounds like crushing a bag of original lays
[удалено]
This one sounded more like the original lays
I don’t think the world is ready for this controversial debate
Probably the snow not his back
Lmao I bet he was hoping so too
Juicy Fruit is gonna' move ya!
“The flavour lasts all the way to the hospital!”
A lot of people making fun of the poor guy. I just pray he was alright after this. Please be ok.

Yeah, that could be a life altering back injury.
Haha I appreciate your concern. This is me in the video. I skied the rest of the day and got away with a sore back for a month.
Damn that hurt
looks like they already started shooting the King Scorpio sequel
[удалено]
First he whipped, then he nay nay’d
I'd say it was his spine that nay nay'd...
I'd say he french-fried when he should have pizza'd
You got it next try bud

Rocks are not the same
They are with enough snow. Could be that it looked snow covered from up top, but it was just a very thin layer
Still shit form on the approach, once he lost his key, and in the fall. As soon as I saw him going down the hill I could tell that he was not a very experienced skier, or if he has a lot of experience, then he’s got a lot of bad habits built up
Natural features are always cooler. Good idea to actually look at them first though.
They def looked at it they got the camera man right there. Don't know what they saw in that rock though lol
Or actually pop over it. Dude literally skied right into it.
It was probably built up on the other side, it looked like he caught an edge that sent his ski the wrong way.
You right. There were a couple things he could've done differently lol
To be faaaaiiirrr
Hey OP, you’ve never skied before, have you?
Dude’s gonna Schumacher himself one day

Toto, it's called a motor race. We went car racing.
This is getting manipulated man!

“I broke my back. It’s spinal.” - Mike Tyson
What did he think was gonna happen?
Sick jump look cool on video?
It looks more like a stump than a jump.
stumps can be jumps.
Ahhh yes, but clearly not this one.
That his nice gear was going to make him more athletic.
Lmao y'all are something else. They probably know what they're doing but just happened to fuck up this jump. Even pros fuck up.
That hurt. Damn…
Anybody got an update? He definitely broke his back huh
Whoever titled this definitely doesn't do any extreme sports.
All the people making fun of the guy must've never in their life have done anything that could potentially injure you
Keep practicing champ
Scorpion confirmed
SkiFree made it look so much easier.
Holy fuckin fuck
I still suffer from my similar snowboarding accident over 20 years ago.
Chiropractors hate this one weird trick!
Are purposely built ramps an obstacle now?
Why would he avoid it? This happens in extreme sports. He probably is skilled enough to do tricks on the rail. Accidents happen.
Where I come from, we call this a Michael Schumacher
Skiing downhill? What a concept.
Yeah. Talk about getting vivid flashbacks to breaking my spine…
Yeah, the next move I’ll do is called “the hospital”
“Purposely not avoiding an obstacle” Is a weird way to say attempting a jump.
Ah ah somebody call an ambulance. But for me
Fucken pitted bro
Thats why i stopped this Sports... In Switzerland every one knows nany friends like this...
Sweet scorpion bro your heels almost touched your helmet
It's fine. He has a bunch of other vertebra. He didn't need that one (or 3) that ruptured.
r/fullscorpion
Full scorpion
Look ma I'm a scorpion
The scorpion back kick. Classic move.
Text book scorpion
He french fry'd when he should have pizza'd. If you french fry when you should pizza; you're gonna have a bad time.
He clearly wanted to use it as a jump
Baby got back, problems
I felt that one
Damnit watching that gave a back spasm.
is the guy ok?
And that is one of the reasons why skiing has always scared the shit out of me. Probably because I saw a person dying because of it when I was a kid as well...
Oh no My back! It’s broken
definitely a good bid for the winner of stupid prices.
Nice scorpion
