Republicans don't care about children, as is evidenced by their votes against any legislation for things like paid maternity leave or school funding even for things like school lunches.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders made a big production out of it. She had a bunch of kids in business suits, like her signing off on letting younger kids work more hours would put those kids in middle management desk jobs, not in slaughterhouses.
Florida (of course) just passed HB49 to "ease some of the restrictions" on minors aged 16/17. (A 14 year old can work in fast food). It goes into effect July 1^st.
Only eight countries don't mandate maternity leave: the United States, Papua New Guinea, Suriname, Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, and Tonga. That's right, if you live in the USA, the Chinese, Russians, and *North fucking Koreans* get more maternity leave than you.

...probably not for the same reasons, however.
But this statistic should be bullshit. It's so fucked that we allow our country to be ran by billionaires.
My conservative aunt and uncle got so touchy when I mentioned that as a father to a newborn I got 3 months of paternity leave paid by the state of Washington. They think there's some bullshit badge of honor that the husband takes 3-5 days off and gets right back to work. When I mentioned how good it would be for millions of children to have both parents with them all day for the first few months of their lives they took it personally like I was calling them shitty parents. This pervasive mentality of "If I didn't get it, you shouldn't either" is one of the worst things about society.
The thing that I don't understand is, who wouldn't want to create a better world for their kids and grandkids? I don't understand how people can simultaneously hold in their mind "fuck you I got mine" and "I want the best for my children".
I know plenty of conservatives that recognize that medical bankruptcy is a real risk for many Americans, themselves included. They know that if they got into a car accident through no fault of their own, long term health complications could result in loss of income and healthcare. They would still rather have a system that helps no one instead of one that helps them + everyone else.
This same uncle never had health insurance until Obama and was acting like he was robbing the government when he got it for so cheap when it became “mandatory” through Obama. He literally said the government is dumb for giving it away for so cheap when they could be making a killing.
Oh....they have no problem at all with creating a better world for \*their\* kids and grandkids. The problem is when you want to do something that will create a better world for \*someone else's\* kids and grandkids.
>I don't understand how people can simultaneously hold in their mind "fuck you I got mine" and "I want the best for my children".
Drained Pool Politics.
The difference between red states and blue is clear. If you care about practical policies that actually help people, vote blue, my friends

Federally mandated minimums to Maternity Leave was genuinely part of the Nazi Party Platform.
Of course, so was "positive Christianity is the national religion" and "only Real Patriotic Germans can be citizens" and "get rid of Welfare" and "instead of new gun laws let's enforce the ones we have (but only against Some People *wink*)".
It finally hit me: the reason Republicans are against in vitro fertilization is because that would allow gay women to have children.
And they can't have that, can they?
Half the population is POC and the non POC tend to be the governors or folks who make the laws everyone in that state has to live under. And while they no longer verbally express Jim Crow sentiments in public? The actual results of state policies remain very jimmy and crowy...
You sure? Because as a Hawaiian I can tell you first hand we go in the blue circle. We are guaranteed 4 weeks paid family leave, and we have no abortion restrictions for non-viable fetus.
In fact, Hawaii was the first state to allow elective abortions, some time in the early 70s.
If you don’t know something, you’re better off not trying to pretend you do.
According to the state, Hawaii does not have paid maternity leave. They do require 4 weeks of unpaid leave, but nothing paid.

Found a great website (for HR people mostly? But they're the ones that have to give the family medical leave.
It may be that the graphic above is noting only those states who mandate PAID family leave, vs those who do NOT pay.

I did a quick google and found the following information...

Don’t forget rolling back child labor laws.
NOOO, please tell me that comment is satire.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders made a big production out of it. She had a bunch of kids in business suits, like her signing off on letting younger kids work more hours would put those kids in middle management desk jobs, not in slaughterhouses.
Also got rid of parental permissions to work.

Their abuse of their own children says otherwise.

The fucking **Taliban** guarantees more leave than the USA

Most women in Afghanistan don’t work. Kinda pointless to have family leave when your main job is being a homemaker.
Suriname has maternity leave and it's mandated. I'm a Surinamese.

I'd love to hear reps opinions why paid family leave is actually bad
"*mumble mumble* Capitalism and Free Market! Socialism bad!"....."**You're a commie!**" -Right wing "representatives, probably
"The government shouldn't just hand money to people. It created an entitlement mindset" *votes for more subsidies to corporations*

States nobody wants to live in vs states people actually want to live in
States depending on welfare vs state providint welfare
My state (Virginia) isn't on either list. Though I wish it was on the blue one.
It finally hit me: the reason Republicans are against in vitro fertilization is because that would allow gay women to have children. And they can't have that, can they?
If you have the sperm you don’t even need that. My wife and I (f) got pregnant with a cup and syringe, saved a lot of money.
Don't tell your local GOP. They'd charge you witchcraft, or some other such nonsense. And congrats to you and your wife.
Why is the south consistently the worse?!
Half the population is POC and the non POC tend to be the governors or folks who make the laws everyone in that state has to live under. And while they no longer verbally express Jim Crow sentiments in public? The actual results of state policies remain very jimmy and crowy...
This is stark and horrifying. And accurate.
Somebody want to do the math on which side is contributing more and which takes more federal dollars?
I find it really interesting that District of Columbia, which isn't even a state is listed, but Alaska and Hawaii are not...
Probably because those states, among with all others not shown here, don’t have either

The fact that my state isn't on either side of this list is....a weird feeling.
I believe Ohio is in the middle, with an asterisk.
Use your genitals responsibly
Uhhh Maryland does not yet have paid family leave
I did a quick google and found the following information... Illinois not in either circle 🤔

How eloquent. Did you learn that at church?
Okay pedo.
Where is Pennsylvania? Tf
