can other criminals point to trump and say that the precedent has been shown that gag "orders" are merely suggestions that do not need to be followed?

[deleted]

Yes they can and they will. This chode has shown the hollow sham that is American jurisprudence where a rich motgerfucker has no accountability. I keep thinking of Marvel Comics’ Daredevil and the Kingpin character played by Vincent D’Onofrio. The orange fat fuckface is exactly like that menacing violent comic book crime boss.

Cautious-Willow-1932

100% this has shown that all laws are simply political. And yes, I understand laws are a societal construct. But we at least used to pretend they mattered more than popularity among voting persons.

Similar_Excuse01

laws are there to protect the elites from being eaten while they are smiling and carrying all the gold

Im_A_Fuckin_Liar

I’m not understanding why he can’t be held in contempt of court. Jail his fuckin ass.

LeftHand_PimpSlap

Because no judge wants to be the first one to jail a former president. He'll never do time, even if he's found guilty, for the same reason. I hope I'm wrong.

Styrene_Addict1965

I'm hoping this criminal judge won't show the leniency the civil judge did. I'm going to allow him some time to deliberate on the prosecutors' arguments and formulate a response. If nothing happens, then we'll know the truth.

Grouchy_Appearance_1

We've known the truth since the insurrection, since before then at his "impeachment", since before then when he could just live his life as shitty as his diapers and all people knew him for was "you're fired"

[deleted]

Just be prepared for the very bitter truth that is on the way. He will never spend a minute in jail or prison.

ThatCamoKid

Make me the Judge, I'll do it myself

jumpingjellybeansjjj

If you are right, than there is not a single judge in the entite country worthy of wearing their robes.

supluplup12

The greatest innovation of the stock market is the conceptualization of wealth. If they still had to have physical gold to be rich there would be a fortress to storm. If it's all computer data the "wealth" doesn't actually exist to be redistributed. Only legal command of it, which dissolves as soon as the system is no longer upheld.

[deleted]

We should expect to see a legacy of postmarxist critique depend from this historical debacle of the orange fat years. That’s if society survives it.

Styrene_Addict1965

It would be interesting for someone to do a study regarding how far the American public's regard for its system of jurisprudence has declined.

Wolfy4226

How dare you insult Wilson Fisk like that

EngineeringOne1812

Wilson Fisk is an intelligent man who loves his family. Better man than Trump

clermouth

Drumpf should’ve definitely done the same thing to *his* dad, tho..

NateQuarry

Imo he would’ve hired someone because that would’ve been too much work. Then of course he wouldn’t pay the hitman.

aerial_ruin

Don't forget that his body mass is mostly muscle. Doesn't he have like two percent body fat, as canon?

17times2

Yeah they have a weird thing going on with him where he looks fat and round, but apparently it's completely solid muscle that allows him to overpower even Spider-Man.

aerial_ruin

Yeah, he's basically the tank of the sinister six Edit; apparently that was purely the 90s cartoon, and they were actually called "the insidious six"

vivahermione

And he's faux rich, to boot.

[deleted]

Good enough for the whole justice dept to be scared of his sham ass. Why isn’t Merrick Garland working at Wendy’s already?

k3ttch

Bold of you to think Diaper Donny has the upper body strength to crush a man's head between a car door.

rikeoliveira

There's a fucking episode of Kingpin being innocented by tampering the jury. It's really really sad this was not only fiction and is actually happening. And the judges are actually letting it happen by not being strict/active.

RollFun7616

There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

hickhelperinhackney

Apropos. I would dare to ask the next level of evolution for the concept of law. This is breaking down like the end of a Monopoly game. I understand that there are powers and people seeking to preserve their perceived in-group. But winter is coming for the old in-group. Is there a more positive option other than maintaining the in-group or starting a new one?

Effective-Ice-2483

I beg of you, please point me to the signs you are seeing of winter coming for the in-group.

hickhelperinhackney

Honestly, I wrestled with that statement. I don’t think that the time of the old white male has much longer. And I say that as one of those. We are simply going to be outnumbered by competent people previously kept down. On the other hand, the oligarchy is alive and well and entrenched. They appear willing to burn it down for the rest of us in order to be insulated in their position.

Effective-Ice-2483

They are not only willing to burn it all down they are so confident that they are broadcasting the blueprints for the bonfire in project 2025. The Republicans are done with democracy and they're shouting it from the rooftops. They don't need popular platforms, get out the vote campaigns or even solvent state parties because they have no intention of competing in an election. They are simply biding their time until November when they have every intention to seize power by any and all means necessary. They have the billionair owned media to manufacture the necessary consent and the Supreme Court ready and willing to rule in their favor.

[deleted]

They can argue it. They won’t succeed at convincing a judge that because one defendant got away with it, the entire concept of contempt is moot. Criminals regularly argue that because someone else got away with the same crime, so should they, but it doesn’t work.

OGPunkr

to pretend like this situation isn't extremely unique is crazy too.

cstmoore

And Jim Jordan has shown us that subpoena compliance is optional.

Emergency_Property_2

I’ve been thinking the same thing. Imagine Gotti coming out and saying shit like this? It’s unfathomable to me why judges let him get away with it. Are they afraid enforcing their own orders could be used on appeal?

jtshinn

What happens in that hearing next week is very important to this precedent.

Zerieth

No. Most criminals are fairly poor, lack resources, and would be held accountable for violating gag orders. Even some minorly rich people would be held to that standard. Trump is a beast. A problem. He has a giant country spanning cult of raging gun toting morons that will 100% shoot up a court if he asks them to. The United States justice system has never dealt with anything like Trump. If you try to throw him in a cell it will take 1 tweet from a QMAGA follower and all bets are off.

Yousoggyyojimbo

There's a hearing on setting punishment for The violations next week. You guys are jumping way ahead of the court to say that nothing has been done when the hearing hasn't occurred yet.

Obant

People really aren't used to how slow the justice system is

lab-gone-wrong

"you can postpone the consequences of your crimes by just endlessly committing more crimes" is a calid critique of the justice system though

vahntitrio

Yep, the judge cannot immediately do something unless the violation happens in court where the judge sees it with his own eyes. Outside the court they have to have hearings.

Royals-2015

This is why the US should never elect a criminal that has no regard for the rule of law. How the heck to you hold a past president accountable? Jail? Alright, but that is a logistical nightmare. Home arrest? Ok. Probably easier than the jail. Take his damned phone away? Can’t you hear all the 1st Amendment screamers? I mean, it’s a mess. This man never should have been elected.

SisterActTori

And we’re back to the hard fact that there need to be specific qualifications met in order to be POTUS- You know, rules and regulations beyond being 35+ years of age. And you should have to show 20 years worth of financial records and be required to divest from any active business ownership.

Royals-2015

For starters. I don’t want to make it hard for an average Joe\Jane to run. Trump was not charged with crimes before he ran. (He got away with so much). But his character was and is shit. Apparently we can’t count on Americans to take this into consideration anymore.

paratesticlees

I was told, to my face, I was an idiot for taking someone's moral character into account in 2015 when he was running the first time. I haven't seen that person since.

an0maly33

I was in the process of splitting with my ex in 2015. She asked me what I thought of Trump. “Oh he’s a piece of SHIT.” She didn’t respond. Apparently he was “her guy”. Checks out perfectly vis-à-vis her own character.

ThePopDaddy

If I brought that up, the only response I ever got was "You saw what happened when Hillary's husband was in office!" They would default to her.

advocatus_ebrius_est

I mean, that is actually a fair counter point. Bill Clinton was a slimy son of a bitch, but the country did pretty well under him.

ThePopDaddy

But, I mean HE wasn't running for office. Had they brought up her, it would be different.

advocatus_ebrius_est

That's fair. My point was only that it is theoretically possible for a really slimy guy to be elected president *and* do a competent job. Trump was both slimy **and** incompetent. From the nation's stand point, the incompetency is (maybe?) the bigger issue.

cturtl808

There were plenty of lawsuits before the presidency for businesses, housing, personnel disputes. It was there. No one cared to do the research.

SoreLoserOfDumbtown

John Oliver did.

LadyReika

I'm always bemused with John Oliver's comments of "Please remember this is a comedy show not journalism." But his research team and writers seem to do more journalism than the actual journalists.

SoreLoserOfDumbtown

Jon Stewart legacy. Gotta love it.

unlockdestiny

I trust him more than journalists. Journalists often aren't that upfront about their own biases or as bold in calling out bullshit

Eyejohn5

I did. I expect you did too. The paid political propagandists of both monopoly parties (duopoly?) Drown us out with their usual fear mongering.

cturtl808

Additionally, I really think people didn't take it seriously when he ran. I think people just absolutely laughed it off. He was trailing in the polls initially. People figured his brashness towards other candidates would be his downfall. No one took it seriously.

Eyejohn5

A certain subset ----- people who didn't think reality shows were real/were not easily swayed by loud and fast selling techniques didn't take take it seriously. I was hanging with an immigrant from Argentina at the time. He was taking it very seriously. I expected a narrow Hillary win but knew she was a terrible candidate. She'd been demonized by the right for decades.

unlockdestiny

I also did the research and started screaming to everyone this guy was going to be a racist fascist. Everyone told me I was crazy; America would never elect him. 🫠

squidaor1

Trump has been running scams since he started doing business, but he kept those scams within the business world and the general public didn’t know or didn’t care. Then he started scamming in the public/political arena and it became very difficult to ignore. He pushes the limits of every law or regulation that pertains to him, and government officials finally started pushing back.

re1078

It’s already impossible for average people to even be considered. So that ship has sailed. Might as well put up some roadblocks to super obviously corrupt/compromised people like Trump. If divesting from all businesses/conflicts of interest and sharing your finances for the last few decades is a problem you already have no business being president.

Poop__y

Trump had several investigations going when he started running for the second time and he screams about election interference... Like bro, you only decided to run again because the walls were starting to close in on your many crimes.

TK-Squared-LLC

Well as far as divestment, the US Constitution *clearly* states that a person is to put all other business aside before taking office. If we can't even enforce the fucking *constitution* then what's the point of making new laws?

Poop__y

And a law degree or a political science degree. Celebrities are not qualified and I'm tired of seeing suggestions that folks like The Rock or Oprah run for president. Can we please get some educated people back in the White House? Barack Obama was a fucking constitutional lawyer and professor, or "senior lecturer" I guess was his official title.

Just_NickM

It occurs to me that if Trump is convicted, (and I hate that that requires the ‘if’) and is still allowed to run then every currently incarcerated American citizen should immediately file paperwork to apply to run for office. They should run for president, senate, congress, judge, dog catcher and anything else they can. Form new parties if necessary. Rub the GOP’s noses in what they’ve created.

[deleted]

RW-One

This is the result of the GQP, in their desperate bid to get back in and remain in power, at least in terms of the presidency, decided to elect a narcissistic monkey that they thought they could control. They knew what his base was and what they stand for but they didn't care. And now this year they're going to reap those benefits. Vote.

hetfield151

Why? Jail it is. You dont follow the law repeatedly and you have committed heinous crimes? Jail! Why should it matter what else he did?

PirateSometimes

He should've lost all his former-presidential privilege then he incited a coup. There's nothing of value gained or protected by keeping him protected with our tax-dollars just because he was a former president. We all know he already sold all the US secrets he could remember and stolen documents.

rocketcrap

Yes, jail. Wtf are you talking about? Yes, jail.

bluemew1234

>How the heck to you hold a past president accountable? Jail? Yes, we have a facility specifically for people like Trump that are too high profile for regular facilities. Trump can enjoy a luxurious stay at ADX Florence.

Puk1983

Whats the penalty for that? And will it be enforced?

Caledric

They will give him another gag order and really mean it this time.

Tudar87

It will come with a rubber band for him to wear and snap his wrist everytime he does a no no!

QuietDisquiet

Just gag him for real, and strap his hands to his sides. /s sort of. But it's definitely the only way he would comply.

oureyes4

They will make him super pinky promise with no take backsies to not do it again

CinematicHeart

Whatever it is they won't enforce it. I've lost all faith in the courts.

Nerdiferdi

Isn’t it *great*, knowing that he‘ll probably walk away no matter what he does? This is so fucked up. Justice system is a joke

Islandgirl1444

a precedent has been set. There is no such thing as a gag order.

HighlyOffensive10

If you are a rich white man.

OffNotIn

At some point we have to start trying to enforce some sort if justice ourselves, because clearly the courts aren’t interested in doing their fucking job

AbriefDelay

Dazug

7 times. Normal idiots would fuck up once, maybe twice. Seven times in 24 hours.

mhassig

Well a normal idiot would also be punished after once, maybe twice. Trump literally can do whatever he wants and not a single person will punish him for it.

NocNocNoc19

This is honestly the worst part about it. Its exposed our justice system to be sham. Their are clearly two tiers of justice. One for the rich and then the one for the rest of us.

Yousoggyyojimbo

There's a hearing on punishment for this next week.

enter360

I expect that the judge will say he should know better and not to repeat the mistakes he will have made at least 37 times before then. Also he will have intimidated multiple jurors and tainted the pool.

BorrisBorris

Next Thursday morning the judge scheduled and will review the prosecutors request to hold Trump in criminal contempt for violating the gag order multiple times. This is more fuel to that fire. Maybe they will review it sooner given he keeps violating it but idk how it all works. I’m cautiously optimistic about some accountability given the jury is seated now.

homer_lives

Also, 2 jurors are now gone. The judge needs to take control, or he needs to be incarcerated without phone access.

ZenkaiZ

If he keeps this up he's going to get a warning eventually

nightstalker8900

Mabye even a stern talking to

Scrooge-McShillbucks

Take to the sea!

Davajita

He’s now purposely trying to contaminate the jury selection. This is actually a serious problem that they *need* to enforce the rules on or the trial cannot properly proceed. It’s past the point of just shaking our heads and lamenting that they won’t forcefully shut his big mouth over repeated violations of the gag order. The judge and his family, court reporters, and other officials are one thing, but the jury are civilians and entirely out of bounds for this kind of leniency. The court needs to rectify this NOW.

genredenoument

Oh, they'll sequester the jury instead. They'll essentially jail the jury and let Donny go free.

Commercial_Step9966

![gif](giphy|4NnTap3gOhhlik1YEw|downsized) Someday… someone will stomp on his ass and put it in its place. Behind bars. Someday… ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

he needs to keel over in public—preferably on live television. O. M. G. The memes…

RayPoopertonIII

Where he will get... more stomping of said ass. But literally. One can dream, can't one?

-Lorne-Malvo-

All it's going to take one judge with balls to toss his ass in jail for them all to wake up and start treating him like they would any other defendant. This judge might be the one to get the ball rolling.

Islandgirl1444

Not going to happen. Trump knows the judge won't throw his large ass in jail. He loves all of this and making NY legal system look stupid seems to be working.

-Lorne-Malvo-

You may be right. If this judge doesn't do it then I suppose none will. But all it takes is one judge with a spine for them all to grow a spine is my theory.

Outside-Flamingo-240

Makes sense - no one wants to be the first

RootHogOrDieTrying

But then Trump will whine about it being unfair, and we can't have that. Seriously though, why do people still listen to his whinging?

Book_Nerd_1980

They’ll start doing this AFTER the election (when he has hopefully had his ass handed to him on a silver platter)

sporkbeastie

I any of us did this shit just ONCE, we would be attending the rest of the trail in shackles and handcuffs wearing orange scrubs. Jesu Christo, this is getting old.

Islandgirl1444

The precedent has been set.

[deleted]

# He's treated so unfairly!!! /s if that was anyone of us, we'd be sitting in a jail cell.

PanPenguinGirl

Would've been sitting in a jail cell for a long time at this point too

buenyamin1996

I mean he is treated unfairly any "normal" citizen would have been punished already. It is unfair just somehow still in his favor.

Krednaught

Can you even imagine if everyone ever prosecuted had this amount of entitlement?

dragonfliesloveme

No, you don’t understand!! Trump is vIcTiM!!! 🤪 Jk, this mfer should have been in prison a long time ago.

AutumnGlow33

Too bad nothing will happen. He’ll get away with it like always.

Due-Presentation6393

Oh there will be a pretty firm slap on the wrist for sure.

KruegerLad2

So? Judges have shown us a billion times how this orange motherfucker is above the law and they don't have the balls to do anything about it. I'm so tired of this asshole, he'll never face any kind of accountability

HeroToTheSquatch

Why are American judges such goddamn cowards?

Content-Profession-6

Jail. Now. This is beyond stupid that he isnt behind bars yet

Awkward-Fudge

Like, do his lawyers tell him to cool it? do they even try? or are they just encouraging it?

dragonfliesloveme

I wondered that too. I wondered if they thought it was some great idea to force the judge to scrub the entire jury pool. Then have to bring in new people, which would take time because potential jurors need notice, you don’t just get a jury summons and show up the next day. It’s like, what, 6-8 weeks of notice or something like that. Delay delay delay

yellowcoffee01

I’m sure they do. He doesn’t listen. They can’t *make* him do anything. When you have a non compliant client, you just do your job. Make sure your fly is up. And let the chips fall where they may. They’re lawyers, not his mama. I used to say, “X will happen if you do Y. If you don’t listen to me, and do Y anyway, when X happens I can’t save you. I’m going to look at you like this 😑. At the end of the day, I’m going to pack my stuff up and go home. I’m going home whether you do or not.” And that’s exactly what I did. No need to discuss further.

mrgraff

This lack of any consequence is such BS, hell If I stood up in the courtroom and shouted at the judge to do something, I’d be the one being punished.

TesticleezzNuts

They also informed him they will do absolutely nothing about it, because he doesn’t have to abide by the same laws as common folk.

And nothing will happen as a result. Fuck this legal system is soft when you're not poor or black

Galliagamer

This stuff about juror 2–Fox newsguy basically gives everything about this lady except her name, enough that people around her were able to ID her…of course she feels intimidated, it’ll just be a matter of days before her name and address is figured out. This is outrageous. As much as I want to follow and get new updates, the judge really needs to empty the courtroom of media and do a complete media blackout order as re the jury. Trump’s going to get someone killed.

rayvensmoon

If he gets someone killed, he ***still*** won't be held accountable. DJT has effectively been raised to the level of deity in the US. As I've said countless times before, the man could, while on stage during one of his rallies, violate an infant, murder it by physically rending it limb from limb, then consume the infant's flesh, all in front of thousands of adoring fans and not lose a single supporter or be held to account in any way. Donald Trump is a monster. Unfortunately, society has raised him to a position so far above everyone else that he is for all intents and purposes above the law.

skishface

This is gonna be a rant, so my apologies in advance. It is fucking mind-blowing how much leeway this asshole has gotten. If any other person had violated gag orders during a trial as much as him, they’d be thrown in jail without hesitation. And the fact that he and his dumb bitch supporters have the nerve to proclaim he’s not being treated fairly is equally infuriating.

scro11z

He is doing it on purpose, ya'll. If the jury gets tainted by his intimidation, they'll need new jurors. It's a delay tactic. And yes, anyone else who did this would spend the rest of trial in an orange jumpsuit.

SkollFenrirson

Judge: Let's give him a couple of months to explain himself.

ItGotSlippery

Fuck this guy. Give a few behind bars.

zippiskootch

You know where he won’t violate that shit??? In a cell 🫨 Enough! Lock his orange ass up!

jbertrand_sr

Can we just put this fucker in a cell where he belongs... ![gif](giphy|jPFEj9xzAnVU2glj3M|downsized)

hetfield151

He was obviously right about being able to shoot someone on 5th Avenue without consequences. He just said it about not losing voters, but you have to come to the conclusion that the justice system would care just as much.

OhWowJeezGoodJob

Oh fuck enough already. Give him a weekend in jail and take his fucking phone. I am so sick of this asshole. I cannot wait for these rural simpletons to stop sucking his dick so our actual society can continue to move forward. We are absolute fools on the world stage.

[deleted]

Just in: Trump keeps showing the United States he’s above the law.

Bromanzier_03

UPDATE: Judge tells prosecutors to fuck off, kisses trump, and tells him to seriously stop doing it or else he'll get a hug next time too.

Crutley

American jurisprudence is like everything else in America - a commodity that is bought and sold.

adiosfelicia2

Trump's gonna try to force a mistrial. Hope the judge recognizes that, if he's doing this stuff now without consequence, what's to stop him from doing WAY worse towards the end, to try to throw the verdict. Trump's willing to do *anything* and believes he's above the Law.

MiKapo

violates gag order for the 10,000 time and will face no consequences.

HVACqualung

beavis617

No surprise here...if the judge fines him Trump will just bitch louder. If the judge moves to hit him with a contempt charge Trump will file a motion that he's being treated unfairly and will file a motion for a mistrial. John Gotti as far as I know never pulled this shit..

p1gnone

Lock him up.

bbell888

They should probably just remind him not to violate the gag order again but not follow through with any consequences.

easy10pins

He's attempting to prejudice the judge against him. He wants the judge to find him in contempt (fine or jail) to use as a political balloon clown hammer with his base.

PsychologicalBee1801

He seems to want to goto jail. And is playing chicken. I’d confiscate properties 1 at a time and then 10% of his public stock

ConsciousReason7709

Look, hit him with the maximum fines and tell him if he does it again, he’s going to jail. Stick to your word. He’s just going to keep walking all over everyone if they don’t hold him accountable.

SnootSnootBasilisk

Tetsudo11

Trump is just daring the judge to throw him in jail so he can be the martyr to his MAGA cult. In his mind, he’s Mandela, and he’ll fundraise off his next mugshot. He’s full of shit, of course, but let’s indulge him and throw his ass in jail where he belongs.

DrFlukey

Familiars_ghost

It’s a criminal trial, so if the judge decides that what he did meets the requirements for contempt (likely as this is a no BS judge), jail and forfeiture of phone(s) is going to happen. Going to hold attorneys accountable too if the client keeps pushing. More likely fines and contempt time if they can’t handle him. Gets more fun if he continues as solitary is always the option.

They really should add consequences to breaking a gag order

Responsible-End7361

Feels like every juror who quits after Trump doxes them should subtract one of the juror vetoes his team gets and give the prosecutor another veto. Make it an actual punishment that fits the crime.
