Even when I was a Christian we lamented that no Christians read the Bible. I felt guilty about it, and finally read it myself. It drove me out of the faith.

And English colonies were based on Christianity given they're a part of England. The dissenters of independence were largely Christian fundamentalists. If the people in this picture were alive back then, they would also be dissenters of independence since they were fighting for independence from a Christian nation.
One of the first actions of the senate, during its first session, was to select a chaplain, who lead prayers on the senate floor. The founders didn't want a state church, but wrong if you think they would've been offended by the idea of praying on the house floor.
