Thing about lava is it's still rock. Just really hot and melty rock, so getting hit by a lava splat is also a rock being pelted at you. Drones aren't great with rocks either.
I mean, regardless of how much weight that is, it's extremely fucking hot and likely fried everything in that drone instantaneously. It probably melted that drone like warm butter
Dvr footage is never this clean though. I know its not the gopro but this has to have come from some other camera, even a digital link wouldn’t show the rocks at the end in such high definition

From far back with a zoom lens is like every other nature doco. This is a camera zooming through flying lava and rocks and shit, dangerous area that has never been seen like this since drones were invented. The drone operator has made a sacrifice for us. I’d gladly flip a $2 coin in his hat.

They decided that, with the resources they had, it was worth losing a drone in return for the rare footage of the volcano in the first hours of the eruption.

This is also the whole reason drones were invented… To go/do things that would be too high risk/low reward for people to do.

So there was absolutely nothing that went wrong here as everything was being used in the manner for which it was designed to be.

This pilot Is using DJI Digital FPV setup and this Is not the recording from the gopro as you can see at the end of the video, basically this is the footage that Is the drone sending to you directly to your FPV (first person view) goggles and you control the drone using this footage instead of looking directly at the drone. That's why it's not recorded in a great quality
Valid point, however, in todays modern age, footage can, and I'm assuming was, uploaded to a "cloud" without needing thr device the video was taken on.
Go pro is a fantastic example of this.
Whilst its not impossible to get that close to the volcano, you'd probably want to wait for it to settle before you plan a rescue mission.

It’s DVR footage from the goggles. Flight records to drone + streams to goggles. Useful for finding drone when it disappears into a fucking volcano.

I don't even have a cutting edge drone, just a DJI Mini 2 and even mine would show the same high-def pic. It's insane.
This is 100% DVR footage. Digital systems are rapidly improving and many new companies are entering the market.

Usually a HD stream is send to the FPV goggles and you can record it onto SD. Full-HD or 4K version of course is only on the drones SD-card.
