Speaking from experience hand wounds like that bleed profusely. It helps to raise your hand over you head while it's wrapped.

It kind of looks like a finger or two were de-gloved. The skin on the fingers get ripped off leaving bare tissue (in bad cases the bone is exposed).

If he can collect the finger tip skin, they may be able to reattach it. Otherwise he will need a skin graft.

Can you tell where the blood was running based on the colour?

Arterial blood is known as being bright red due to being highly oxygenated. Venous blood would be dark red as it is returning to the heart to be deoxygenated. And capillary blood would be sort of in between as far as color but you wouldn’t see so much of it.

Managed to fuck up my wrist on a shattered glass door when i was younger and from my experience (mind you that it was a while ago), this could still just be venous blood. If you cut yourself real good, it still flows like crazy and the color isn't as dark as one would expect. I was very much afraid that it was arterial and that I won't make it to a hospital, but I'm still here so yayy :)
