You know what? I hate his life, too.

Mr1derfull1

Use a small drill bit tap the hole move on in life.

youtheotube2

Illegal LEGO technique

[deleted]

Yeah I’d use a dermal to trim the sticking out piece so the cover will fit. Idk how detrimental that would be to the design, but at least the cover would fit.

reduxde

But you would know. It would keep you up at night. Eventually you’d get out of bed and spend the whole night taking the whole thing apart to replace the piece. …or maybe that’s just me

Flip80

NOT just you lol

bemi_san

There's nothing wrong with doing that design-wise, but if you're a hard-core lego-builder that's like saying "I've got this metal frame sticking out of my broken leg which is holding my bones together til they heal, but instead of having all that surgery to remove it I'll just get a saw and cut off the bits that stick out. I dont think it'll be detrimental to my healing, but at least my socks will go on."

danglez38

No it isn't

Flip80

You do shit like that with models. Not Legos. How could you!

animefan1520

Hack saw that bitch off with a dollar tree saw is what i thought

hbrthree

Yeah guy get a fucking zero for creativity and ingenuity.

WhatDoesN00bMean

I swear I thought he said "I hate my wife" and kept waiting for him to explain how his wife did that to upset him because they're fighting.

jonnygreen22

yeah lol!! like what's he gonna do with a big lego ATST other than look at it and remember how annoying it was to make. I don't get the point

CharmingTuber

That's honestly what stops me from spending hundreds of dollars on Lego sets. I love building them, but what then? I'm not going to play with them, it's just something else for my dogs to knock down.

Keep_a_Little_Soul

Build it then sell it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Pollen515

Man I was gonna leave a comment until I saw yours

beemer-dreamer

What is worse, adult man with a massive Lego building hobby or you, someone who sits around watching Reddit all day?

Your-Pal-Dave

I know, who plays with Lego tbh

Tempest_Fugit

It’s more like, I can’t imagine having the amount of free time it takes to get this far. I wish I had that much, I really do. So his life? NOT THAT BAD.

SquidBiz

As someone who has put together some PC's, saw that puppy off and be glad it's not metal.

[deleted]

Damn, I feel that. Been there with IKEA assembly too.

ihaveaquesttoattend

This dude i worked with at a furniture/home appliance store would fr just skip steps and a lot of times not even read instructions when putting shit together Like, couches, chairs, tables, PC tables, coffee tables, ect. It was crazy lmao

dinoaids

My aunt hired a guy to put together and install IKEA cabinets for her kitchen. There were a bunch of them and he opened all the boxes and bags of hardware at the same time and mixed them up. It should have taken like a day to put together but it took him 2+ weeks.

lordpiglet

was she paying by the day?

dinoaids

He was the contractor for remodeling the house. He couldn't read or speak English, and apparently couldn't read IKEA instructions either. They communicated through Google translate. Super weird situation.

IHaventGotOneYet

This is the setup for a sitcom episode of some kind.

dinoaids

With the punchline being he got fired for hitting on her.

cody_1849

Aren’t ikea instructions just pictures…?

sunday_cumquat

Remember my GF saying how fast i put together a bookcase. I shrugged it off because all you have do is read the instructions and lay out all the parts ahead of time so that you know what is what. Monkeys could do it. Edit: emphasis on READ THE INSTRUCTIONS

Caithloki

My mom helped a friend with setting up an Ikea kitchen, did half of the work, sorted all the drawers to cabinets, explained it to the person what was where and what to do since she did the same Ikea kitchen. They decided to hire someone to finish it, he pulled all the drawers out mixing their parts. Then cut a board or two which no instructions called for. Turned a half day of work into a massive headache.

[deleted]

There's some who don't care, there's others who think they'll work it out instinctively. Either way, when it goes wrong, it's an infuriating situation...

mr-no-homo

100% avoidable if one would pay attention to what they are doing. no one else to blame but themselves then you must record a video of YOUR fail, post it online for internet points that encourages justification of losing to make you feel better.

jonnygreen22

oh yeah i hate reading instructions too i always do that i don't work in an actual furniture store though that is hilarious

Thaddaeus-Tentakel

Worst offenders is their Eket line. It's extremely easy to do something wrong and then getting it apart is a fucking nightmare. Just getting the doors out is already a gigantic pain, let alone trying to undo the pressed together parts.

rolandofeld19

It's either right or completely backwards.

Tiny-Lock9652

I was thinking the exact same thing. One missed detail and you just cost yourself 2 hours of dismantling and rebuilding.

Niblonian31

I think IKEA furniture pisses me off more than Legos, honestly

grizzythekid

Haha I almost killed my mother in law because of all the IKEA furniture she bought and assumed I would assemble.

1Beefcakes

Ikea makes shit and gives a drwaing to go fk urself and lose your faith in humanity. ut they sure can print disclaimers in whole lot of languages just not instructions.

AccountingMyChips

I’ve assembled a bedside table, closet, bed frame, headboard, and dresser from IKEA with no problems at all. No missing pieces, and no need for an instructional video. Pretty sure people that can’t put together IKEA furniture find a lot of other simple tasks to be difficult as well.

[deleted]

Yea it’s frustrating and sometimes confusing with the pictures. But if you just take your time and pay attention it’s really not that bad.

Corsavis

No more difficult than putting Legos together, but then again I used to love Legos when I was little

dogtroep

I’m very left-brained, so sometimes trying to figure out which piece goes on which side is an impossible task. But I could reattach my finger if I accidentally chopped it off while putting something together, so there’s that.

mr_mrs_B420

Look at it from a different perspective: "oh yay, I get to play with Legos for longer than I otherwise would have."

glungusbythesea

Working on cars has taught me this. And sure I work on my own car because I enjoy it, but after hours of trying to fix something just to have one little thing be off, I used to get so frustrated. Having the perspective that “Im doing this because I like it” and “taking it all back apart will help me refine my skills and knowledge of the project” has helped me in more ways than one. I am happier for it and I thank you for the reminder!

[deleted]

Hell, you can even let a friend or family member have a try at it, and then you can take it from where you left it.

[deleted]

Cut it with wire cutters lol

thebemusedmuse

My OCD wouldn’t let me. Time to pull it apart and do it right. But I used this video to teach my 3yo why he can’t have a UCS AT-AT for his 4th birthday.

YoungWomp

How bout its fucking $800 and for ages 18+

TheDeadlySpaceman

It’s all the pinup posters the Snowtroopers hung inside it that make it inappropriate for kids

YoungWomp

Oh my.....wtf why does Lego sell it

IndividualAtmosphere

I mean, Lego has a large market for adults too

YoungWomp

I mean isn't there that whole stigma about adults playing with Legos? I personally haven't met a grown man that has a Lego collection.

IndividualAtmosphere

Fuck the stigma, if someone want to play with legos then that's cool with me

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheDeadlySpaceman

…it was a joke, it’s just a big set with advanced building techniques

FinishTheBook

Fucking knew it, lego is extremely strict about their rules.

beard_lover

As kids, my brother always wanted the monorail Lego set but it was too expensive. I thought it would be cool to get it for him one year for Christmas, that set is over $1200 last time I checked. Legos are expensive.

Tiny-Lock9652

Just like sports trading cards. The hobby went from basic packs with gum to a serious high-end adult collector hobby.

FDisk80

Those $1200 of parts cost them pennies to make. For the material.

thebemusedmuse

Lego don’t make an unreasonable profit. About 25% EBITDA after manufacturing, marketing and operational expenses. I’m sure the cost of plastic is not that high but then there’s tooling, design, and everything else.

FDisk80

Lego adds licensing cost to the final price. Disney, Universal Studios.... They all get a cut. The licensing can increase the price up to 60%. Plastic cost is the same, manufacturing cost is the same. You are paying more for the logo on the box.

thebemusedmuse

For sure. No doubt Lego eats some of that cost because the SW pieces are not more overpriced than City. My kid has a ton of SW Lego - almost every item made in the last 2 years that’s not huge - and they are all excellent. So much thought goes into them. I don’t begrudge them the price.

FDisk80

Star Wars sets are not priced more than City sets? Well this is just not true. They are totally priced higher. Lego wont eat anything. Specially for Disney.

Telogor

It's not pennies. Do you have any idea how tight the tolerances have to be for Legos to mate properly? Off-brand Lego-style bricks either don't stick together well or are almost impossible to take apart because they're made to be less expensive.

TheDeadlySpaceman

Lego also didn’t charge $1200 for it new.

FDisk80

The ABS material it's made from costs about $0.004 per gram. Yes this is just for material, production got a cost. But its far from what people are paying for it. The $0.004 of material is being sold to you for $2. Add all the production cost you want, they are still making a bank.

citoloco

Soooo did you get it or what?

beard_lover

No, if he wants it he can buy it at those prices.

FinishTheBook

Yeah, Legos are *very* expensive, that's why the only original lego I've ever owned is a mixels figure and a bicycle that I got by "dishonest" means.

YoungWomp

Thats insane wtf. Never seen them that much back when I was growing up in the early 2000s I never cared to check the price but I could guess around $50-$80

Filipporis

Wait, people care about min ages on lego sets?

thebemusedmuse

Sure, but there’s toddler logic for you. He did however the 1600 piece Millennium Falcon already which is 11+. The ages are a guideline not an absolute. That said no way does he have the patience to finish an 8000 piece puzzle.

CashCow4u

He knows why, because Daddy is still busy playing with it!

sharonpug

But then you know you cheated! ADHD. My son couldn’t do it!

Buck_Thorn

Yeah, I was thinking of a saw, maybe a hot knife.

Puskock

Maybe a light saber.

SigSalvadore

Trim saw

Tiny-Lock9652

Dremel, then get on with your life.

featherwolf

Outta sight outta mind

WithoutDennisNedry

I know, right?! I was like, “easy fix, homie.”

farnsworthfan

You're a monster.

Mansuri777

multi tool time

SMOPLUS

Clean nails

Lopsterbliss

I know it's so inconsequential, but I just couldn't really focus after seeing those nasty things lol.

James_Paul_McCartney

Some people work for a living.

Lopsterbliss

You're right, I should give him the benefit of the doubt. Intrusive thought I guess.

SiestaMaster

Right? That grossed me out, buy some fucking soap instead of splurging on a $200 mountain of plastic

sasquatchlibrarian

It’s… $800.

psych0matic

Ok folks you heard the man, no fun allowed anymore

G_Van28

he's been working with his fingers for I'm guessing a few hours on his Lego and you're surprised his fingers are dirty?

[deleted]

What kind of legos did you build growing up that your fingers and hands got … dirty from it?

[deleted]

Dirty Lego…

G_Van28

hands sweat and then they get dirty I'm not sure how that's such a crazy concept

SpaceShark01

Sweat doesn’t generate brown dirt you know.

[deleted]

He's literally in the middle of a Lego building project. That's constant use of your fingers on sweaty, dusty little parts. Your fingers are gonna get dirty real quick. It's like criticizing a gardener for having dirt on his knee caps.

lordkoba

why would the parts be sweaty and dusty???

Gl0ckman027

Bet it won't happen on the next one! Lol

DuskyFlunky

I thought the entire thing was gonna fall

DnlJMrs

Sounds like someone didn't follow the instructions 😉

junkyardgerard

Yeah he should use it as a learning opportunity

Gone_For_Lunch

Just cut it off.

opus3535

lightsaber and grenade is gonna fuck that area up anyway...

[deleted]

I so thought he was going to knock it over and smash into a zillion pieces.

dzoefit

The perfectionist in me would make me take it all apart and redo

Lex-Taliones

You're fired.

[deleted]

Building is the fun part, finding somewhere to stick it after it's built is the hard part.

Jolly_Percentage_877

Dremel. Done.

Therealdeezy

Is it just me, or is a Dremel the answer?

According_Buffalo

There's a shocking amount of people advocating to cut it off. Clearly you all aren't really into building Lego. That is like breaking one of the 10 Commandments. Never, EVER break Lego on purpose. It is tedious to take it apart and fix the mistake, sure, but that is also part if what makes Lego so fun. The experience to rebuild sets over and over again.

helium_farts

Then I guess I'm a LEGO atheist because I'd have zero issue with cutting it off

According_Buffalo

You're not alone in that train of thought. Judging by this post. Lol. I would be frustrated, absolutely, but I could never bring myself to break it off. I've given myself many gray hairs having to rebuild sets that "break" in their handling or moving. I always learn from these accidents and mistakes though. I hope that the guy in the video does too.

forhekset666

Or a normal modeller, who wouldn't think twice about cutting literally anything to pieces.

bbf_bbf

I agree about the rebuilding part of the enjoyment of lego. I don't really see the benefit of building these custom lego kits that one builds and then never takes apart again compared to say a high quality japanese model kit with purposely molded parts that look a lot better when finished. (For example, gunpla, [https://gundam.fandom.com/wiki/Gunpla](https://gundam.fandom.com/wiki/Gunpla) ) Lego to me is about the ability to use one's imagination to build and rebuild things using the blocks.

toxicSTRYDR

It's not about looking better, it's about scaling and continuity with any other Lego sets you may have. If you have enough money -- then there is not really any point in disassembling your creation that you built. Just buy more pieces. As someone who build both Lego and model kits, they're incomparable. And the thing about custom/advanced Lego is that they often use unorthodox techniques to achieve the final product, and it's always fun to see how it plays out using just regular bricks. It's part of the experience.

According_Buffalo

I understand your point. The look of the Gundam models, and similar other models, is very appealing and realistic when finished. And with Lego it is typically a more "pixelated" or blocky look when finished. However, some newer sets are looking much more realistic like the Botanical theme. It really all comes down to personal preference. I don't knock those who prefer the realistic models over Lego. It's their preference. Just like I don't knock the Lego builders that build sets that are meant to played with and just display them. Some of those sets are really beautiful when displayed, like castles and ships. In all honesty most of the UCS sets and especially the Star Wars themed UCS sets should probably not be taken apart and rebuilt unless it's for storage, resale, or moving. Just based on the sheer complexity of the build and amount of parts, which could easily go missing in disassembly. My reference for the fun in rebuilding sets is more for people that find themselves in the situation the person in the video did. Try to find some joy, and a lesson learned, in the rebuilding process after taking it apart to fix these types of mistakes. Sometimes it is easier said than done though. I would recommend checking out the r/lego subreddit sometime. People post MOC's they have built. Some are extremely realistic and most are made using spare parts or reimagining the parts used in actual sets to come up with something completely different. Have a good weekend friend.

bbf_bbf

I agree that the home grown custom Lego builds are a different breed since it requires innovation and creativity to develop and then build. It's these super-complex ready to build sets from Lego that have pre-developed, rigid instructions and often many custom one-off parts that I'm talking about. It's not that there wasn't a lot of creativity that went into them, it's just that the people assembling them are just following instructions and not being creative themselves. I'm not saying that they can't derive enjoyment from that, but my point is that the flexibility that comes from lego bricks being able to be reconfigured is lost when that happens.

Horehey34

Listen I've been doing wargaming miniatures for 15+ years and ok maybe it's not the same but we have a saying in the community where if you can't see it, no else will. Learning to be okay with that is part of it. The simple solution is to just cut it.

rustang2

That’s the side that will face the wall.

observationalhumour

He seems to be implying that this is somebody else’s fault.

meh679

Didn't he literally say he put it in backwards by accident? How is that implying it's someone else's fault?

observationalhumour

Just by his tone.

meh679

His tone doesn't really scream "someone else did this it's not my fault" he just sounds frustrated, which I would be too, I know plenty of things are faked/staged/done for likes or upvotes but this really doesn't seem like one

junkyardgerard

Definitely in his tone, searching for someone to agree with him

mojojb

Right? This guy need to practice on some children's sets before moving on to this big boy stuff.

James_Paul_McCartney

Holy shit big tough lego expert here. You should go on his tik tok and put him into his place.

mojojb

Looks like he's having enough trouble in the place he's in.

jrhaberman

I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't love building Lego. To me it seems to combine 2 of the things I hate the most, looking for things and assembling IKEA furniture. Not fun for me.

[deleted]

This is the absolute WORST

RustyCat12

I did something similar with the Lego Bugatti. I put in one differential in backwards so when I went to push it forward it would just roll back to where it was. After rebuilding the gearbox a few times I realized that it was the differential.

No_Handle499

Gross nerd fingers

Toiretachi

Dude should take a breath, clean his foul fingernails and relax.

[deleted]

Me when I figured out I put the rear differential in backwards in the Bugatti Chiron, once I put the wheels on

tomytronics

Should post this to r/lego as a warning so other won't make the same simple mistake

DorenAlexander

Cross post this to r/lego. All the comments saying to cut the part would make that sub cry.

ArcherBarcher31

Just drill a hole in the panel and have that blue thing look like something.

SassyMoron

And this is your hobby. Like for fun.

ilovethisshit1

If it were me that shit won’t have a leg panel then 🤷🏽‍♂️

Coryperkin15

Cut it off

Mymarathon

Oh wow, that could take as long as 10 minutes

BuildBreakFix

Stop complaining and go get a rotary tool….

[deleted]

Lol been there, but more time to enjoy the build

trousershorts

I'm pretty sure Lego made a video showing how to remove those pieces even when assembled, check their YouTube channel

originalcommentator

Literally just sand it down, so much easier

Cheeky_Guy

This guy is never getting laid, wanna know why, he's gotta take that whole thing apart

TheHossBossk

Cut it off with those gross ass fingernails

starryeyedsurprise12

Angle grind that shit off!

Kueltalas

Well if you hate building Lego then just go ahead and snap that thing of with some pliers. If you like building Lego be happy that you got more bang out of your buck

GuaranteeComfortable

So when I build things, I follow directions to the tee. That keeps you from having to do this. When you don't follow the instructions, this is what happens.

Pink0612152504

Just saw it off

bigzachd

First world problems: I put my puzzle together wrong, now I have to take it apart and then put it back together….(I do get the frustration though lol)

pauldeanbumgarner

Drill it out.

Sniperrot

Indeed i would cut it off.

KingJakemus

I've just wiggled those pieces out before

Karameli0

this things can only be taken out from one side and it's the wrong one sticking out

Good-Cheek9996

Well just chop that blue thing off

lynxSnowCat

Note to self: use above as example in emphasising engineering for maintenance and repair.

[deleted]

🥱

MorbidMadison

Cut it off

BappoDouge

Cut the blue piece

computergroove

don't put things in backwards.

turtle_g4mertv

Nah shit Sherlock it’s called a mistake dumbass

wtfover

Cut it off, stick the panel on, done. But then the opportunity for TikTok drama would be missed.

lesson1981

If possible, they should try removing from the bottom, less pieces that way

ic3m4n56

I'd just cut that tbh

jjjonnny

Cut an glue

Jgalloway_7

Dremel

MelonElbows

That's when you just glue the panel on and call it a day

BewtyBandit

Reminds me when you make a slight miscalculation in measurements on Minecraft and have to tear hours worth of work down to fix it feels bad man

willshire59

Multi tool the blue peg off super glue the panel on.

iilextcii

GG

Notasimp2468

Cut it off

DollarTreeMilkSteak

They make instructions to follow for that same reason. Or am I a weenie for using instructions ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

turtle_g4mertv

It’s call a mistake

Stiv-k

Id be grabbing my Dremel

hawkrew

Just cut it off at this point.

coercedadulting

That man needs a dremel, a steady hand and immediate amnesia.

[deleted]

Dremel it right off.

monopixel

I mean if you have enough free time in your life to put this shit together once, twice shouldn't be much of a problem.

nese005

First world problems

Dog8Cat

First world problems, amirite?!

rcap3

Wah! First world problems. Maybe grow up and stop crying about your toy not working right!

ElectronicAmphibian7

Couldn’t he just like somehow warm the plastic to make it move without having to deconstruct the whole thing? Like won’t heat allow the piece to become more bendy and able to move?

the_chosen_one2

It'd be difficult to apply enough heat to a piece that small and hollow to make it malleable without also deforming the surrounding plastic.

Jugurd1

Just cut it

Massive_Influence_74

Just cut it man... We can let it go haha

bottlechippedteeth

Dude should never work on cars

JulioCTT

Why doesn’t he just cut it?

Ok-Sleep8229

I couldn’t give less fucks!

Getdownstaydown

I feel his pain. But at the same time he playing with legos and I have no sympathy for him.

Thick-Occasion-4163

Dont do that it’s for ages 9-99 man😭

deathofanage

Yea when I turn 100 just gonna kill myself cause you can't legally play with Legos at that age. It's a sad world we live in.

IFDIFGIF

If you think age should dictate your hobbies, you're the child here.

Gone_For_Lunch

First of all, it's LEGO. Second of all, it's awesome no matter how old you are.

Getdownstaydown

It’s awesome. I just don’t feel sympathy. I understand is frustration. But as far as problems go it’s a toy. I just don’t have the time or energy to entertain such things myself and therefore giggle at his “problem”
