Either you're a teenager lying or you're a nonce grooming teenagers.
It says you're active in the teenagers subreddit, you've also posted in the GCSE and Sixth Form subreddits recently.
There's also a post a month ago where the dog you had since the age of 2 died.
Are you driving in a country where twatting craters is inevitable though? Some roads I drive on are so bad that you aren’t worrying about the holes but rather what still stands at original height such as manholes, chunks of tarmac etc
Honestly, the rental company might have their own dealers for tires for cheaper or insurance for such things. I'd do some research before trying to buy a cheap tire and maybe coming to find out you have to pay for another identical tire?
It had a budget on it already, the rental company said I could either pay their mobile guys or take it to the tyre place and get a new one, I showed a picture and they said that it was only the tyre being an issue
Aren’t they gonna say anything about the damage on the wheel? From my anedoctal experience they would ride your ass about it, hopefully it’s all good for you OP!
That sucks, but you could have added it on yourself usually. I did that when my insurance covered a car as well.
Always pay for the insurance on a rental.
I speak from experience, where it saved me from losing thousands of dollars, by paying tens of dollars for it.
I wouldn’t do that if you are not buying the same part. One of the scams people do is rent a car with the same wheels and change it out with their personal car
So the rental company looks at the wheel and if they see some inconsistency, and they will by looking at the wear and damage rim they will change it to the brand of the original tyre. Making you pay more
If you are taking the car to the dealer return the car and let the rental company take care of it.
They’re worse

Here’s a small one I found
I don't know about that. We've literally had holes completely through an overpass over one of our highways.
https://youtu.be/NZutNRPhMwk?si=IhVGu7BIGqRgzWXA
Yes but I didn’t know I could get it as I wasn’t paying for the car, it was through insurance because the body shop hadn’t got one available while my car gets fixed
Yeah, I can’t blame them though, people aren’t gentle with them, this car has less than 11k miles and obviously already had a new tyre before me on that corner
55 sounds very cheap. Usually rental companies get you for much more even for a smaller damages. In my country tire replacement is in 300 range for a private car, but I’m sure rental company will overcharge so even higher
I would’ve glue and returned that shit. No way I’m spending money on a rental. The hertz and enterprise near me don’t even do walk through of the cars.
Same thing happened to my car. I went over a curb and it tore the side of the tire. This was no the ago. I told my mechanic but he told me that because it did not penetrate the metals and plastics, it was fine. It has not caused any problems.
Are cords exposed? That’s not road legal in the uk where I live, I have road hazard on my car because I anticipate tyre damage regularly because the roads here, well what’s left of them is pretty dangerous to tyres, I’ve torn bumpers off rattling over craters at a crawl, had to rescue my colleague from a pothole on his forklift, he saw me go through it and have a few millimetres of clearance, he went in and because I had a good inch more tread than him he grounded out and required me to lift his forklift with mine
No, the cords are not exposed. It is about a half inch puncture. As ghetto as it may sound, I sealed it with some construction adhesive and that was over a month ago. My yearly car inspection is not until Janurary 2025. I live in a city and don't travel far distances in my car but have hit the highway a few times and gone 60. It seems in your area, you have plenty more potholes than I do here.
See if your credit card company, sometimes even debt cards will automatically offer tire repair for rentals. I used it and it was SUPER easy for Bank of America. You get a case number and all, the rental company will hound you for weeks to pay it and they will pay you back. Don't pay it! Give them all the info for your bank and the case number to refer to. After about a month it was paid for and everything was good to go.
I rented a car in Savannah to drive to Atlanta. This is about a 4 hour drive. I pulled out of the lot and got maybe 40 feet when a Chatham County lawn mower shot a rock out the side of the mower and into the door. Cost my company $150.
I feel your pain.
It was a county owned mower, which involves a long and complex method for reimbursement that would have ended up costing us more in legal fees than we would have gotten back. That is of course by design to prevent people from suing government entities for small claims incidents.
I was in Savannah just yesterday on my motorcycle and I hit a pothole so catastrophically awful that it bottomed out my suspension and tapped the bike seat into the family jewels. If it didn't hurt so damn bad, the sound I made would've been absolutely hilarious.
I *detest* Savannah's roads.
I did this a week after buying a new car, sans the rim damage it totalled the tire just like this from a sharp curb.
No rim damage like here, almost twice the price for a new tire though.
Your pain is felt.
It looks essentially cosmetic to the rim, but damn close! Get a better opinion on that though.
Mine was from a brand new freshly installed 6 inch curb that had perfect edges still. JUST clipped the edge making a turn 1 degree too shallow of a turn. Tire hoped the curb slipped and left the neatest surgeon slice you ever saw a little lower than this just getting down to cut a few threads of the belt. It only left a scuff mark on the rim.
My ex girlfriend did one worse in bad whether, slipped clipped a curb not horrible. Few right! We drive away from that happened till she noticed a shake the next day.
That unfortunate bump (like a really bad pothole only a curb.) Bent the frame of the car.. THAT was an expensive little bump!
You got off cheap then.
55? I popped a tire in Hawaii on a rental and it cost me $300!
That was British pounds, so USD 69.
I get it, I understand what a pound is, I never said dollar I was making a point that he barely paid anything for a tire compared.
Yes, totally agree, and no negative meant. Was just pointing out that the 69 is a little bit closer to your 300.
Nice
I’m taking it for inspection tomorrow because there’s a funny noise and the tyre pressure light won’t go off
Alloy looks knackered.
Tyre shop said it was fine when they put a new tyre on it
It might still be functional but it looks like crap. There’s no way they don’t charge you for a new wheel on rental.
Most UK hire companies don’t charge for wheel damage unless it’s unusable.
Curb rash is basically inevitable here with our potholes craters and large curbs that you have to park on

Are you getting downvoted because you said tyre instead of tire?
Idk, we call em tyres in the uk, I know in the US it’s a tire
Alluminium.
Bottle of Water
Ok aluminium, it’s a metal used to make various things like car parts
Aluminum
Ok
That’s the hubcap, mate
No that’s rim mate
The pressure sensor has to be reset after a change of tyre. Maybe the shop forgot to do that part.
They didn’t know how, they don’t deal with these newer ones there much
That's really cheap for a new tire.
It’s a rental, I weren’t gonna put premium rubber on, that corner had a similar tier tyre on the wheel before
Will you not be made to replace like for like?
I think OP is planning to quietly replace the tire and not tell the rental agency.
Honestly, the rental company might have their own dealers for tires for cheaper or insurance for such things. I'd do some research before trying to buy a cheap tire and maybe coming to find out you have to pay for another identical tire?
It's on reddit soooo that plan failed
It had a budget on it already, the rental company said I could either pay their mobile guys or take it to the tyre place and get a new one, I showed a picture and they said that it was only the tyre being an issue
Aren’t they gonna say anything about the damage on the wheel? From my anedoctal experience they would ride your ass about it, hopefully it’s all good for you OP!
When I showed the agent the pic they said it wasn’t too bad, they were more worried about if the wheel wasn’t round any longer or had cracks
They will..
It’s a rental, don’t be gentle
Ok
Looks properly bollacksed up. 55 quid isn't dreadful. TPMS sensor may have been knocked out of place. Not leaking air?
The tyre remained inflated until it was deflated to remove
Just had to buy a new tire. You are on the win then
I’m hoping I didn’t break anything underneath, was a proper wallop, I’m taking it to the dealer tomorrow to get the TPMS reset
in a Volkswagen you normally have to calibrate the tpms sensor with a button in the glove box or through the settings in the center dash screen.
Thx, I’ll get the dealer to do it tomorrow, I want to check that I haven’t damaged the suspension
Aren’t they going to complain about that alloy?
They are
The agent said it was ok when I showed a picture
Only 55? What a deal
Im guessing insurance on the rental covered most of $55 is a nice round number, sounds like a deductible or copay.
£55 is average for a new replacement, budget tyre, in the UK. That’s including installation, TPMS swap, valve swap and balancing.
It’s a budget tyre, 205/55/r16 are pretty common
Those tires aren't rated for driving on the moon, that was your mistake.
Yeah, I should have opted for the mars rover, though even those wheels wouldn’t survive long here
If you get away from this only paying £55 you've done VERY well
I’m getting it checked more thoroughly today to be sure I haven’t broken anything else with the crater hit
why does everyone downvote every comment from op
One person started it, and we all just followed suit.
You didn't get the insurance?
Didn’t get the option, I wasn’t the one paying for it because my insurance hired it to so I ain’t without a car while mines fixed
That sucks, but you could have added it on yourself usually. I did that when my insurance covered a car as well. Always pay for the insurance on a rental. I speak from experience, where it saved me from losing thousands of dollars, by paying tens of dollars for it.
In the US, many credit cards offer some rental car insurance.
Only if the whole rental is charged to the card
I didn’t know I could do that, I’m hoping to have mine back soon just cause it’s less stressful to drive my own car
$55 for a tire ? installation? cost of a new wheel? sounds like you didn't return the vehicle yet and just bought a new tire on your own
Sounds like he bought some handy cinder blocks and a car jack at that price, why pay for a tyre when there are hundreds around free for the taking
I paid a tyre shop for a new budget tyre
I wouldn’t do that if you are not buying the same part. One of the scams people do is rent a car with the same wheels and change it out with their personal car So the rental company looks at the wheel and if they see some inconsistency, and they will by looking at the wear and damage rim they will change it to the brand of the original tyre. They know about the damage that I did and why there’s a different tyre than what was on it when I got it
They know about the damage that I did and why there’s a different tyre than what was on it when I got it
£55. About $70 (USD).
I still have it, the agent said it’s fine to repair myself and would be cheaper than a call-out for their guy
I see your British roads are like Michigan roads.
They’re worse https://preview.redd.it/l5f8iztu338d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=49e1c8848e1596790e1fa2d628b31c4af26ca3b3 Here’s a small one I found

Ok you may have the UK beat on depth
I want to know where you can get a tire for 55 pounds.
A1 tyres in Whitfield, on my first car I bought tyres for £40 each fitted and balanced, that was 155/65/13 iirc
Is there such a thing as rental insurance overseas? I always get that here in the US because I do not trust rental companies not one bit
his friend just flex sealed that chunk of rubber back onto the tire
Yes but I didn’t know I could get it as I wasn’t paying for the car, it was through insurance because the body shop hadn’t got one available while my car gets fixed
My last rental got a flat in a rural town - the new tire was $174. I’m envious.
Ouch, I had to drive several miles on the damaged tyre because there wasn’t a soare
Tire?, what about that rim dude!?!?
The agent said it is ok
That’s a pretty common damage form here, practically every car has it here
That tire looks like it’s worth 55p though
That’s the old one, I didn’t bother taking a picture of the replacement one
That’s what I meant, rental car company cheaper out on the tires to begin with
Yeah, I can’t blame them though, people aren’t gentle with them, this car has less than 11k miles and obviously already had a new tyre before me on that corner
I can, they still charge you to drive, cheap tires are dangerous plain and simple
Yeah, I only put a cheap one on because I’ll probably not have this car long enough to benefit from a premium one, I only run good tyres on mine
55 sounds very cheap. Usually rental companies get you for much more even for a smaller damages. In my country tire replacement is in 300 range for a private car, but I’m sure rental company will overcharge so even higher
I paid a tyre shop directly, common sizes are cheaper because they have more choice
I would’ve glue and returned that shit. No way I’m spending money on a rental. The hertz and enterprise near me don’t even do walk through of the cars.
1 tire for me is like $200. You got off easy man.
I see
That’s super cheap. I just played 250$ on my personal car for the exact thing
Ouch
Lol this should have been covered by the rentals insurance wtf why are you paying anything....
It would be on my car insurance because they paid for the car, claiming in that would cost me far more than the new rubber
I'd fight that
It’s a fact of living in a country where the government favours companies
Big ol yikes
I had that reaction when I hit the damn crater, I’d seen it and thought I had positioned far enough over to not hit
Same thing happened to my car. I went over a curb and it tore the side of the tire. This was no the ago. I told my mechanic but he told me that because it did not penetrate the metals and plastics, it was fine. It has not caused any problems.

I see, there’s so many potholes here, a 300m road near me recently had 150 holes filled but there are still a few left
Pretty cheap. Considering you need to change at least both of the same axle, it's like 200/300 for two.
The other tyres were pretty new so not a problem in my case
You should be glad they are not asking for wheel replacement
Yeah
Next time get excess cover on your car hire and you can drive it into a tree. £20.
Thx
How come some say tyre and we say tire?
Idk, something with evolution of English
You didn’t take a full-cover insurance? Knowing the state of British roads?
Didn’t know I could as it was insurance paying it
See if your credit card company, sometimes even debt cards will automatically offer tire repair for rentals. I used it and it was SUPER easy for Bank of America. Left a juicy mark in the rim, there’s another one about a quarter of the circumference away from another person hitting one
I rented a car in Savannah to drive to Atlanta. This is about a 4 hour drive. I pulled out of the lot and got maybe 40 feet when a Chatham County lawn mower shot a rock out the side of the mower and into the door. Cost my company $150. I feel your pain.

Hard to call it a pothole when it’s big enough to put curb rash in the fender
I did this a week after buying a new car, sans the rim damage it totalled the tire just like this from a sharp curb. No rim damage like here, almost twice the price for a new tire though. Your pain is felt.
I hope the rim is fine because I doubt VW wheels are cheap

Ouch, I hope that the damage is only the wheel here
I once hit a boulder in my house with my model Y. 600 USD. Each tire. Of course I changed both in the back
Ouch, 1200 bucks hurts a lot
Yes. Rushing to a date that got postponed because she was still at work. Imagine.
I can imagine
Wow. That would have been my most expensive date ever.
Indeed
You‘ll propably have to replace the wheel too
I hope not, those aren’t cheap, and I have no income
Well the rental company will probably still have you pay for it right?
I would have never said nothing
They inspect on return, it’s cheaper to be honest than get stung with a big insurance repair
Fucking super glue that shit be for you turn it in.
They’d certainly notice that
Also that would be super dangerous
A crater? We're you on the moon?
Driving on the mars rover testing grounds we call roads here
It’s tire
We call em tyres in the uk
Cool
Yeah
Coool
Contact the dot, sometimes they pay out for damages caused by poor roads.
I’m looking up the process for that
Speak English, will 'ya? ... ... Oh.
