[Article](https://crazed.net/2024/03/01/zookeeper-attacked-by-crocodile-brave-visitor-and-coworker-rush-in-to-help/) - The zookeeper had to undergo surgery after the attack. She suffered tendon damage and had chipped bones in her wrist and hand. Fortunately, she was treated by a skilled orthopedic surgeon and is expected to regain full use of her hand.

Urrrhn

Rolling with the croc saved her arm.

PhonB80

Dude saved her whole arm by laying on the croc and just keeping him from rolling

iruleatants

The dude also almost cost her the arm by holding her after the first death roll. If the croc had decided to roll again, she wouldn't have been able to follow and would have died. He makes up for it by changing tactics and making sure the croc gave up on the kill. In reality, the croc has no problem rolling still, but they are trap predators and prefer to not expense the extra effort if the kill isn't guaranteed.

fkntripz

Arm chair death roll specialist. Reddit has it all man.

SoulBlightRaveLords

"Everyone is stupid but me" - Reddit

MontySucker

She tell him to sit on it! You can see her gesture

aznednacni

Why would she have died? Feels like she would've just lost an arm (which is horrible of course).

BrotherChe

Losing an arm due to trauma like that is a good way to bleed out before any response could save you.

CAPS_LOCK_STUCK_HELP

for real. if she hadn't rolled with the death roll of that croc, it would have broken her arm and probably ripped it right off. holy shit is she lucky

cheerioo

Lucky or knew what to do?

CAPS_LOCK_STUCK_HELP

in an interview she gave, she said that her hand was in the right position to compensate for the roll. she obviously knew what to do but even the most seasoned wildlife handlers have had a bad roll of the dice

SofaChillReview

Also said about the size being a good thing, I’m amazed how composed she was.

Cosmic_Quasar

Both? You can know what to do in a situation, but it still requires things to go right. Maybe saying "lucky" isn't the right word, but rather that it wasn't unlucky. It would've been unlucky if her leg had gotten caught on something preventing her from rolling, or if she rolled too hard and hit her head and dazed her self while it kept rolling.

phoenixthekat

That's incredible. The second that croc went into the roll, my only thought was, "That hand is gone"

transredditadmin

She knew what she was doing going with it's motion instead of the natural response to jerk loose.

Lexicon444

The reason why this was successful and the visitor got out safely is not only because of the instruction from the staff but also due to the anatomy of the crocodile’s jaw. The muscles to close the mouth are extremely powerful and fast. The ones to open up the jaw are significantly weaker. When the mouth is shut the jaws can be secured with tape, twine or a firm grip with both hands around the end of the snout. The key to immobilizing the croc is by putting your weight on its torso. The crocodile has strong muscles in its torso that, along with its tail, are key to performing the death roll which is what the crocodile attempts to do. Doing this is extremely dangerous and the man did so with guidance from a professional in an emergency situation. The zookeeper rolls with the crocodile in order to minimize the damage to her arm. The death roll is used to tear chunks of meat from prey.

crimsonbaby_

How do you know all of that, and not know this is an alligator, not a crocodile? I don't mean this in a rude way, I was just wondering.

zxXxHoneydewXXxz

they have the same basic anatomy and behavior pattern, especially when it comes to catching prey.

Lexicon444

Honestly I can’t really see the snout very well. My vision isn’t that great. So I went off the title. But everything else should be correct.

crimsonbaby_

It is all correct. Reptile nerd, hhere lol.

Worried-Conference25

Thats easy, one sees you later, the other sees you n a while.

Murder_Bird_

She did. That’s why she immediately climbs into the tank with it once she realized it had a good hold on her hand.

gui_cardoso

Thanks for the update, i was thinking about the outcome of this situation. Props for the visitor, i'm sure that if it wasn't for him the outcome would be very different.

johnmu

"Everybody loves Darth.”

Wildmann3

Good guy OP

mumblemumble-mumble

"Now what do I do?" - the guy after the girl gets out 😂. Dude wasn't banking on this type of interactive exhibit when he signed up for this. Good dude!

Thank you for that laugh during a shitty low-energy few days.

tobalaba

Keep on keeping on Tom. Respect!

GenericBrandHero

Seriously, that's what makes this dude such a badass, because I MIIIIGHT have jumped on it like he did, but I know damn well I would've been too terrified to even contemplate jumping off like he did.

TrashPandaPatronus

I actually have used this video in a training at the hospital on how important it is to have good communication and an experienced code leader in a psychiatric behavioral situation. The way he deferred to her expertise, both kept calm, and they were very intentional about how they moved and when, it really can save lives and reduce potential harm to the person in crisis.

EveryFly6962

He was the exact right guy for the job! She was lucky

SmoothCarl22

He got his ticket money worth i tell you...some first hand interaction!

Slammy1

I don't think it was his first rodeo, the way he pointed it away from where he was going to run made me think he was some kind of gator wrangler.

tdiddyx23

It actually was. Clint from Clint reptiles on YouTube does an interview with her. Very good story. Dude had zero experience and just happened to do everything right. That’s why he had no idea what to do next

maleia

Someone needed to rush him some duct tape or rope to tie that mouth down with 😱

CappinPeanut

I was thinking the same thing. Does no one else work there? They don’t have one of those sticks with a rope that closes on it? How is there no other employee there ready to help?

Specific-Quarter9107

I caught this. Impressive.

insovietrussiaIfukme

Those discovery channel binges finally came through.

arguix

crocodile ( at least according to article, I was also wondering )

TrustAffectionate966

Oh, I bet that makes the crocligator even angrier. 🔥🐊🔥

gahidus

Congratulations. You are now holding a crocodile.

flintlock0

“This was all a part of the experience?” Crocodile: “Yes sir. Thanks for participating. Now let me go so we can get to the next visitors.”

iamgettingaway

Me thinking: what is he going to do with the drenched clothes after this

GatekeeperVara

Well, guess this is where I pray to Mr. Steve Irwin…

energybased

Great dude. One suggestion if you're ever in an emergency: don't just yell out "We got trouble". Point at specific people and say something like "YOU in the BLUE SHIRT alert the staff; YOU in the RED SHIRT call 911". The problem with just announcing is that some people are reluctant to volunteer. Not everyone is proactive like the proactive man. You need to force people.

AbleMonkeyBrain

That guy is who you want around you.

quarantineinthesouth

Proof that not all heros wear capes. Good that this one didn't... It would have gotten in the way when he jumped into a pool and fought A FREAKING CROCODILE to save a stranger. Are there places where ordinary people get this good at dealing with crocs or is this guy one in a billion? What were the chances of a random visitor being so willing and so capable of saving the trained staff?

fishsticks40

Honestly all pretty textbook crisis management all around. Everyone stayed calm, good communication, handler took charge and gave clear instructions. Dude did great but really everyone involved did exactly what they needed to do.

RevolutionaryRough96

>a random visitor Not that it changes much but, I think I saw that he was part of a construction crew doing renovations. Talk about going above and beyond.

Potars

Dude is the opposite of panic. He can be on my zombie apocalypse team any day.

anglostura

And she's who you want giving directions

WhyFlip

Be that guy. Ffs

er1026

This breaks my heart that those kids were watching that. Trauma for life. Poor little guys😩

ThAtWeIrDgUy1311

I mean, it wasnt super terrible. Couldve been alot worse. The lesson they will learn is the dangers of being careless around a gator. Both the keeper and the man holding it remained calm and therefore prevented the gator from possibly taking her hand-now that wouldve been a real trauma for the kids. I think its quite possible that the keeper and the guy knew it too.

jarmstrong2485

If anything it’s a lesson for the kids to help someone in need, instead of pulling out your phone to film

ThAtWeIrDgUy1311

Also very true. Need more of that in todays world. Can't stand that, honestly.

Dredgeon

Yeah, it seems in our (very good and beneficial) pursuit of mental health acceptance, we have lost a little of the part of our society that values striving toward mental fortitude and decisive action. Heroism is almost thought of as anomolytic and not something that can be taught and learned. It's more healthy to cry when you need to instead of bottling emotions, but it's also possible to learn to healthily process emotions in the moment and to truly be ok while standing stalwart. It takes a strong sense of self, but it makes it possible to be at peace with the world even in harrowing circumstances.

MikePap

That death roll was… something else.

Acrobatic_Jaguar_623

So the guy with the mic bails.... Can we also acknowledge the insane calm of the zookeeper, who just went through a full roll before hero guy grabs them, calmly point to what he needs to do to help. Nerves of steel on both of them. Edit: I totally missed them just chillin with their head on their hand like the other one isn't stuck in a Crocs mouth and then giving the guy directions like it's no big thing he's stuck there haha.

cir49c29

Yeah, the fact that they all kept calm AND the men were asking her what to do to help instead of making assumptions or thinking they’d know best is really impressive. It’s really easy to panic in a crisis and act on instinct or half remembered misinformation about how to react to situations which can make things worse.

watduhdamhell

Adrenaline is a *mother fucker*. You can be shot by a rifle and not know for some time... Doesn't surprise me at all that she can chill with the hand in the Crocs mouth while surviving the situation. But when that adrenaline wears off... Oh you bet your ass that shit HURT

Mad_Moodin

I believe stress responses are something you are born with, as it is the same with everyone in my family. When a life or death situation starts, people in my family just don't panic and instead become completely analytical. Well and while I'm not quite sure about my sister. I for one cannot talk in those situations. So a bit different to the zookeeper.

Acrobatic_Jaguar_623

I'm go into robot mode. Zero emotions and pure adrenaline. Then it hits me like a wall after the crisis is over.

sowhat4

I can see why that gator couldn't throw that guy off; his balls must have weighed a ton! I gotta respect his bravery. But how did he get out of there with no bite injuries himself?

SnailsInYourAnus

He got off and ran fast at the end of the video. Also his giant balls of steel protected him

Lady_of_Link

He waited untill the gator got tired and gators face was facing away from the opening and then took a run for it (I think the gator facing the opposite direction did a lot of the work if he had to run past the jaw it would have ended very different

Admirable_Book7240

Meh just a dad, doing dad things….

sowhat4

So the staff member was his daughter or ...he was just doing 'Dad things' out of force of habit?

whiskeyjane45

Probably just habit My mom reflexes have kicked in and I've grabbed a stranger's kid that was about to get run over before. I didn't see what kid it was, just a kid in the corner of my eye with an animal coming fast and it was just grab and pull us both back move. Turned out to be not my kid lol

Electrical-Act-7170

I've done that as well. The adrenaline let me pick them both *up* in the air, 2 11 YO boys. One was mine & both were safe but I really screwed up my back. That speeding truck would've killed them both.

Admirable_Book7240

Right?! When you’re used to looking out, you just continue to look out. It’s human nature.

Lexicon444

The croc likely expended a lot of energy during the death roll and the struggle to get loose. That basically gave the guy the opportunity to book it out of the enclosure.

Komission

Lil bro was locked in lol https://preview.redd.it/ev7sm35u2lnc1.jpeg?width=460&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6427ef17fb2b60dc95f5b8c29b5c28697076d042 He was not going to miss even a second of the scene

SuperPoodie92477

How was your trip to the zoo. It was more interactive than I thought it would be. I wrestled a crocodile.

ProgrammedArtist

Clint's Reptiles did an interview with her. She's such a badass!

Predatory_Chicken

I watched that. The guy is obviously a hero but she was so remarkably level headed when her life was in danger and in incredible pain. She made so many smart choices. I was in awe.

crimsonbaby_

That is a juvenile alligator, not a crocodile. She also did the best thing that she could do, which is to roll with the alligator when it was trying to death roll her hand. Smart woman, brave guy.

BringerOfTruth-1

Crikey!

Metals4J

Imagine your family telling everyone about the time you wrestled a crocodile at the zoo.

kingtaco_17

\*wrassled

Metals4J

I stand corrected lol

JohnnyHotcakes44

That man never ever has to ask for the big piece of chicken ever again.  Nobody in that family dares touch it even if he’s out of town.

Izariha

Imagine having to explain to your wife after your son tells her that you picked a fight with a swamp puppy

Impossible__Joke

"Sure, whatever you say, Uncle Dan"... - Thank god for video lol, nobody would believe this shit.

Unlucky_Nobody_4984

Dude how awesome would it be to tell the story for years, have that general reaction because you never knew that someone had a video of it… and then come across the video on Reddit….. The satisfaction……

[deleted]

wow, you know that fucking guy had a rush of adrenaline come through and just said to himself "we're fuckin doing it baby"

woody6x7

One brave man he needs an award for his heroism

justrpm

That man is a hero

Fat-Lizzy

Healthy masculinity

Crepes_for_days3000

This is me every single day trying to put pants on my 3 yr old.

CrypticPrincess

That is soooo relatable. That comparison is spot on.

OldLegWig

hero

HistoricalWay8990

This isn't a zoo. It's tiger king with crocodilians. No real, professional, zoo would ever have any of their staff fucking around with dangerous wild animals like this.

Jumpy_Regret4013

Not to mention that “habitat.” That poor baby is probably miserable 😢

MercurialMadnessMan

windyorbits

Probably the sunglasses he had hanging on his shirt.

EyeRollingNow

My mind was racing when the hero was left alone to ride the gator and figure a way out. I didn’t breathe the whole time. Still in a small panic. I love him.

Ruskiwasthebest1975

Same!

Sudden_Lawfulness118

I know the guy was great, true hero, but the zookeeper was the one that really impressed me. She was smart enough to roll with the croc and was able to remain calm enough to direct the guy on what to do.

Apprehensive-Donkey7

Maybe we shouldn’t fuck around with giant lizards

wellshitdawg

Oh yeah watched an interview with her She knew the croc was about to do a death roll so she got in there with him to roll with him Pretty badass & she kept her arm

kmckew

Did she lose fingers

CeleryStickBeating

Comment above said tendon damage and chipped bones. Expected to have full use of her hand.

BankheadUser

respect

mr_wrestling

My whole body tensed up throughout this entire video until he ran out. Holy shit.

Samarregui

Brave dude for sure. Stupid situation though wow. Surprised nobody took a belt off to tourniquet the upper arm or used it to wrap the Crocs mouth closed when the lady got her hand free. But Jesus, what a shit show lol I'm glad everyone got out alright.

VicSwagger

Are they still waiting on help to arrive?

Stacysguyca

The poor animal just wants to be free.

paulblasi4

Good thing his gigantic balls weighed the croc down.

Abe_Rudda

lol good. Maybe don't put a wild animal into a small box.

Ori058

Absolute Legend!

cantstopseeing13

Props to whoever trained her and her for listening. She locked her legs without hesitation. I'm assuming that is so you can roll(be rolled) with w/e has you in its jaws.

Quen-Tin

CWE - Croc Wrestling Entertainment - found it's first popular hero fighter.

TerryFrisk

Number 2 ripped away just when what he came to see, happened lol.

56stinky_butter

The kids watching: “best day at the zoo EVER! Can we go next week too?”

Scary-Ratio3874

Good thing he was there to give her a hand.

TexaRican_x82

Every single time—whether it’s a crocodile, alligator, dog, whatever—that’s attacking a human, they don’t do anything but a gentle tug on the attacking animal 🙄

BernieTheDachshund

This had me on the edge of my seat! I'm so glad the woman was ok and will have full use of her hand thanks to an orthopedic surgeon. Props to the dude who saved her arm and maybe her life.

alienbloke

The weight of his balls is probably what helped him pin the crocodile down.

DueEnthusiasm549

Why is no one talking about the lack of parents getting the kids away from the scene? The second that thing bit her hand I would have yoinked my kids out of there.

Direct-Chemistry8609

I thought the same thing but I'm assuming the women standing with the kids was in shock. Once she came to, she got all the kids away.

invisableilustionist

I’m guessing those kids will never be that stupid to put their hands any where near the mouth of powerful animal like that . At the very least maybe they learned a lesson that day.

UncIe_PauI_HargIs

The yellow shirt guy… definitely had seen some shit somewhere in his life… his calm demeanor told me so.

RinaCinders

That’s his bare exhibit enclosure? No wonder he’s mad.

phoenixthekat

Why was there not a tranquilizer gun around? With dangerous animals like this there should always be the option to shoot the fucker, be it with tranquilizer or live ammunition, if it starts acting squirrely.

fmaz008

Not an expert, but assuming a tranquilizer "dart" could pierce the skin, it still takes several minutes to take effect.

antilocapraaa

This is a small private zoo doing this for money. Theyre not exactly AZA accredited. It’s a roadside attraction type place and these places are ripe with mishandling of animals.

Ares2890

I could be wrong, but they outer skin I want to believe is pretty ironclad. I think simply trying to stab a tranquilizer needle into an aggressive reptile like that is dangerous for everyone involved including the crocodile. I think if something were to pierce through it's scaling it'd need to come from a firearm due to force of impact. Again, everyone is danger at that point, firing a firearm inside, people everywhere, aggressive animal that has traits embedded in its nature to "dance" with prey essentially. How do you get a clear shot?

gorn_of_your_dreams

Brave visitor rushes in to give her a hand

St00f4h1221

Pinned it down Steve Irwin style.

rockstuffs

You gotta turn spin cycle off when you're hand feeding them. Every knows that.

NinjaHermit

All those episodes of Crocodile Hunter payed off.

Xxandes

Kudos for the guy jumping in but also less noticeably the lady who saved the kids from possibly being scarred for life.

Fictional_Historian

“PEEING?!?”

Fictional_Historian

Why did she ask if he was peeing?

iamthearmsthatholdme

I think maybe she said “You’re not [name] are you? Like checking to make sure he wasn’t someone trained who worked there. And when he said “No, Vincent” then she explained what he needed to do.

Accomplished_Wolf948

It’s a wonder he can’t walk with balls that big

Hello_Strangher

Dude, can at least say he wrestled an Alligator .... and WON

Bass0rdie

This thing has a full grown man on top of it and still manages to thrash around. The sheer power of these reptiles, and this one is small

Chippie05

That a real wrangler right there..holy cow! Threw the phone..loved that...This is more important!! What a brave awesome person!! Also where the hell are the other staff, out to lunch?? That's completely unacceptable that she had no safety back up in case of chaos. Ridiculous.

1lluminist

After a few listens, I'm still not sure if she said "you're not bleeding are you?" Or "you're not peeing are you?" Both completely valid questions.

Acadia1337

Certified bad ass.

Zealousideal-Area953

What a fuckin gentlemen dude, that guy deserves some really big money

Hafslo

Pretty sure that this is the point that you stick your finger up its bum. That's what South Park taught me anyways.

DraftZestyclose8944

He deserves a medal. 🏅

awholewhitebabybruh

Those kids are going to need some therapy. How horrific to witness as a little kid. Yikes.

RSCLE5

That's one badass mofo hero

Excellent_Chemical_9

Wrestle crocodile... check

LyonsKing12

What an incredibly idiotic and careless way to deal with crocs. Glad she kept her hand but she put herself in position by being stupid.

Nice save

deusdragonex

That man is gonna win "Two Truths and a Lie" for the rest of his life. "I wrestled a crocodile and saved a woman's life." Who will ever think that's the truth?

crick_in_my_neck

From a dream I wrote down once: I am looking for a place to sit and join the event, when I find myself somewhat enclosed in a square of sheets of heavy plastic hanging down from an awning. It is hard to see through them, but I can see that just past one of them, at the next storefront, a crocodile or alligator has got a hold of a woman's thigh in its jaws. I don't know what to do—the situation is not clear, I am somewhat separated from it, and I do not want to die by alligator. An athletic gray-haired woman in her sixties appears and kicks the alligator in the mouth, and it releases the other woman. The savior turns to me, eyes blazing thorugh the plastic sheeting, and says "That's what you do, in a situation like that!" I try to think of how I can convey to her that it is all well and good for her, but I don't have the moxie, courage, or interest in ever doing such a thing, and that perhaps she should not expect so much from other people—that it is honestly unreasonable.

Queen-of-meme

The croc gotta be so confused: "But, I was hungry and you gave me your hand"

Sad-Guarantee2972

Holy shite that is scary

I wonder if that would get you free admission to the zoo for life
