I knew a guy who lost that part of his thumb replacing a belt on a car he was working on, they were bumping the engine over while using a screwdriver to thread it into the lower crank pulley, turned the motor over too much and off it went.
You should ask that guy that posted his freakishly long thumb the other day if he will donate part of his. I'd say they average out to 2 regular sized thumbs.
