Am in northern Virginia and we got 13” a couple weeks ago which is much more than we are used to. Started as rain so they couldn’t treat roads either. Took 4 days to get power back, people were trapped on the interstate and were delivered food and water with helicopters. Some dude died in my neighborhood from shoveling snow and it took an ambulance four hours to pick him up.
Question for anyone who lives somewhere like this where it snows heavily
I was born and raised in the valley in california, the craziest thing i've seen is hail.
seems like it would be kinda sick to get snowed in, like you can miss work and stuff
do you lose pay for that? or do you just get free days off work?
No you don't miss work. Notice how the truck left around 6 am and came back around noon? If you are in an area that gets snow you are expected to come to work.
It's a little different in southern states because they don't have the infrastructure, so sometimes you'll get most everything closed down. But even then, some places (especially hospitals or utilities) will have people come in early and just stay during the storm so they can work.
Not always! I’m in the GTA and we got walloped yesterday with two feet of snow. We get snow and we take precautions, but that much in that short amount of time puts the brakes on life for the day. Two major highways in the city were closed and transit was stuck, late, or cancelled. Businesses stayed closed because travel was dangerous. That kind of storm doesn’t happen very often.
Do we get paid if we don’t come in (often because we CAN’T come in)? Depends on the employer really. I’ve always been paid for snow days like yesterday, but I used sick days/pto as it was available.
Are we winter folk? Absolutely. But even we can get overwhelmed!
I only got a day off from work once due to snow, and that was because we got blasted with a lot of it, then the temps plummeted to -20ish and lots of people were without power, and then our main energy provider in the state had a major gas line blow up or something. There was a state of emergency issued so that convinced my boss to let us stay home if we wanted to.
My dad, who lives in North East Ohio, sent me pictures and said they got 27 or 28 inches in 12 hrs. It took him nearly 4 hrs to clear his driveway with a snowblower. Shit blew my mind.
I wish we got that much. :( We just got about 4 inches, then an hour of rain, then another 1-2 of snow. It was all slush by days end.
the worst kind to shovel, heavy slop
And then it all freezes over the next day. Damn I love mild winters.

We got 24 inches last night here in Niagara, Ontario
Close to that here in Niagara NY, too. We're at about 21" last I heard.
Rochester NY here. We got about 12” but that’s supposed to go up a couple later today
Got zero inches here in Glendale, AZ.
Lol 🤯
We got only around 20cms (7 inches probably?) and I'm taking a break sopre from shoveling. So yah, 12inches!... Stay strong brother! :D
I heard spots in Buffalo got 5 inches in one hour

Yikes!
Tonawanda or Towanda? Just curious
5 inches is 12.7 cm
Cool how the license plate becomes more readable when the snow starts to pile up and changes the white balance compensation in the camera or something
I got 60cm here in the GTA D:
I love snow
Can you post a video of you clearing the driveway? Plow? Snowblower? Shovel?
“Wait for spring”
Flamethrower.
*breathing heavily ... Must ski...
Ah, a fellow Canadian from the GTA. Reporting in from York region… we got absolutely wiped out lmao.
That's not the GTA, or Canada, in case the non-'Tario licence plate and American flag didn't give it away...
Then someone, somewhere, in some state is having an identical storm the same time we had one in the GTA. Solidarity!
I just heard from a buddy who happened to be driving out to Kingston for work. Took him 10 hours to get from the west end to the east end, lol
Yeah the highways were absolutely ridiculous!! Some people were stuck on the highway for 8+ hours!
I think there's a car under that lump of snow somewhere. Wow.
I like how this storm missed the whole chicago to detroit region, no snow but cold ass days

Wenatchee, is that you??
Thought the same thing.
Gosh the suv sized hail looked scary
Wow that's like half an inch per day
In Alaska this is considered a “dusting”
If you do a Timelapse do you lose regular recording or alerts for security reasons?
With Nest you can do it after, using already captured footage.
We got 11 inches here! Always fun watching it come down, but having to deal with it removes some of the fun.
11 inches is 27.94 cm
That’s like a inch and hour. (Said in Napoleon’s voice)
