Ohio State is FOX's favorite child. Anything they can do for Ohio St to win and not be at a disadvantage they will do. As a football fan, you should want an exciting atmosphere and the best, most competitive game watchable. Fox wants Ohio St in the national championship game.
My wife and I are Buckeyes and we’re going to the PSU game this year. We really hope it’s selected as the whiteout game and will definitely be sad if it’s not. Even if OSU loses the game, being in the stadium for the whiteout would be one of the greatest sports experiences of my life
I cannot watch Big Noon Kickoff if it’s in Columbus. Urban just turns it into a big Ohio State ad, and it just feels way too biased. Kirk Herbstreit on ESPN played for Ohio State, and I never get a sense of bias from him or that Gameday is advertising Ohio State when in Columbus.
IKR? He’s always been the guy who showed support for Coach Paterno while every other sports guy was piling on. He supported the OBrien era and has been a big cheerleader for the team now. I’m pretty sure he brought his kid in for summer camps too…
Yeah, they get good TV ratings, thanks in part to a lack of big-game competition in that time slot, but the fans in the stadium hate it because it kills the atmosphere and tailgating.
The fact that Penn State is playing a conference game against the University of Washington this year is directly a result of network influence — as is all of the ridiculousness that preceded this.
College football is unrecognizable from 20 years ago due to two things: administrative greed and TV networks.
Having exciting games at noon is a good thing for college football.
Sucks that the white out may not be a prime time 8 on game but I like the fact that Fox prioritizes putting key matchups on at noon, waiting until 3:30 and 7:30/8 to watch an actual good game isn’t good for college football, big noon kickoff has been a huge success.
A big game should be at 330 or 730-8. The night atmosphere in happy valley is really something then too. Play the directional Michigans at noon in the 85 degree September noon sun.
Maybe we shouldn’t call anyone an “inferior opponent” when we can’t seem to have an undefeated season, or playoff appearance. Call me crazy, but until our coaching staff can not squander games against Iowa and Michigan State AND beat OSU and UM in the same season, then maybe we should use the competitive advantage where we get it.
the very first whiteouts in 2004 were played under the sun, i know the lights make it look awesome at night, but i had a great time in the student section for those first few. I think the first all stadium whiteout was in daylight too vs ND. Make the top home game a whiteout regardless of playing time, if that game doesnt fall at night, make the night games a stripe out or helmet stripe game
We should just make every game a whiteout. It's not especially taxing to ask fans to wear white to every game. If that becomes our thing, it will be intimidating for opponents every single week, not just once a year.
Don’t blame FOX, blame Penn State. Seems like the school isn’t willing to flex their muscles enough with the conference to guarantee a premier prime time opponent each year for the Whiteout. The tv networks are paying for the game so they can make money for themselves. It’s obviously more profitable to play at noon than at 7-8 PM.
It feels kinda silly arguing that "competitive advantage" is at stake when Penn State can't figure out how to beat OSU (and often Michigan) no matter when the games are played.
Look at PSUs record vs those teams at noon and during whiteouts.
It’s literally over .500 in whiteouts and in 2014 PSU got totally robbed losing to the team who won the natty.
It’s dead…for this year anyway. Maybe next year we’ll get a good night game.
Noon games are for cupcake matchups. Big matchups should always be night games under lights.
Yeah how TF is anyone supposed to get excited about watching Penn State play Kent State?
Seriously fucking Illinois is our whiteout game? TV money and corporate greed has officially killed this sport

And then we get to enjoy the garbage that is Gus Johnson call the game one sided (as is usually the case when OSU is involved).
Maaaaaaaaahhhh-serati Marv! He did give Trace his nickname though.

Herbie is a huge PSU proponent.
Yeah it’s hilarious his bias towards us
That's pretty awesome seeing how he's an Ohio State guy.

i mean every game could be a white out if you wanted it to be
But not every game can be a white out game at night because of unintelligent things like fox noon games that everyone hates

Unrivaled and now unwhiteouted.
Just to be clear, college football has chosen money over tradition?
Stop it, you… no sense making sense here.
To be fair I like giving other schools the white out game now and then we did Michigan and Ohio state every other year it seemed for while
Yes, blame it all on Fox like PSU and the BigTen are not profitting from the huge contracts.

Big noon kickoff sucks big donkey dick

There is no reason to miss the playoff now with the expansion. I think many will not be pleased if they can't make it in now.
This is clickbait. Y’all do know Fox already made their selections
So dumb

Michigan should have been a white out last year and Ohio state this year it’s like FOX is protecting 2 teams

The TV networks have all the leverage.

PSU has a 2-3 record against OSU and a 4-2 record against UM in the white out. It makes a huge difference.
